The Millennium Falcon's hangar bay was a cacophony of alarms and shouting as the group sprinted toward the ship. Stormtroopers were converging from all sides, their blaster fire sizzling through the air. Han and Chewbacca led the way, blasting a path to the Falcon while Aria, Luke, Leia, and the droids followed close behind.
"Get that ramp down, Chewie!" Han barked as they reached the Falcon. The Wookiee roared in response, slamming the controls to lower the boarding ramp.
Leia fired off a series of precise shots, taking down two stormtroopers as they reached the base of the ramp. "I thought you said this ship was fast," she said, glancing at Han.
"It is," Han snapped, firing back at the incoming troopers. "Fast enough to get us out of here if you stop talking and get on board!"
They scrambled up the ramp, blaster fire ricocheting off the ship's hull. Inside, Han and Chewbacca bolted for the cockpit while the others took positions in the main hold. Luke and Aria manned the gunner stations, just as they had during the escape from Tatooine.
"Here we go again," Luke muttered, strapping in and gripping the controls.
"Focus, farm boy," Aria called over the intercom. "We've got more company this time."
Sure enough, as the Falcon lifted off, the hangar doors opened to reveal a squadron of TIE fighters waiting for them. The ship shuddered as it broke free of the Death Star's gravity well, plunging into the chaos of space combat.
Blaster fire lit up the darkness as Luke and Aria worked in tandem, taking down TIE fighters one by one. Aria's voice was sharp and confident, guiding Luke through the frenzy. "Twelve o'clock! Take the shot!"
Luke followed her lead, his nerves steadying with every successful hit. "Got it!"
Inside the cockpit, Han and Chewbacca pushed the Falcon to its limits, weaving through the swarm of fighters and heading for open space.
Leia stood behind them, gripping the back of Han's chair. "How long until we can jump to hyperspace?"
"Soon as we're clear of these guys," Han replied, his tone clipped. "Just keep your fingers crossed we don't take a hit to the hyperdrive."
Leia glanced toward the viewport, her expression unreadable. "They destroyed Alderaan," she said quietly.
Han shot her a quick look but said nothing, focusing instead on the controls.
Back in the gunner stations, Luke and Aria took out the last of the TIE fighters, and the Falcon rocketed into the void. Moments later, the stars stretched into streaks of light as the ship jumped to hyperspace.
Aboard the Falcon
The adrenaline slowly began to fade as the Falcon settled into the relative calm of hyperspace. In the common area, Luke slumped into a seat, his breathing still uneven. Leia sat across from him, her sharp gaze softening as she looked at him.
"You did well back there," she said, her voice warm.
"Thanks," Luke said, scratching the back of his neck. "I, uh… I guess I'm getting the hang of this."
Leia leaned forward slightly, a teasing smile on her lips. "Maybe you're more than just a farm boy after all."
Before Luke could respond, Aria entered the room, her expression neutral but her movements stiff. She leaned against the doorway, crossing her arms. "We need to debrief. What's the next move, Princess?"
Leia's smile didn't waver. "We rendezvous with the Rebel fleet. The plans in R2-D2 are the key to defeating the Death Star. We have to get them into the right hands."
"Fine," Aria said curtly. "Let's focus on that."
The tension in the room was thick, and Luke shifted uncomfortably in his seat. He could feel the friction between Aria and Leia, even if he didn't fully understand it.
Leia stood, her demeanor regal despite the cramped surroundings. "You've all done a remarkable job so far," she said, her gaze sweeping over the group. "The Rebellion owes you a great debt."
As she left the room, Aria watched her go, her jaw tightening. Luke glanced at her, unsure of what to say.
"You okay?" he asked hesitantly.
Aria snorted, shaking her head. "Don't worry about me, farm boy. Just… keep your head on straight. The Empire's not going to roll over and let us win."
Luke nodded, though he couldn't shake the awkwardness lingering between them. Something about Leia's attention toward him seemed to bother Aria, though she would never admit it outright.
For now, though, they had bigger problems to face. The galaxy's fate was still hanging by a thread, and their journey was far from over.
