The Minecraft Story: The Beginning: Chapter 55
One at a time, Marcus and Franz cut down the endermen. Saving soldiers and civilians alike, they killed over twenty. Still, Marcus couldn't help but tear up a bit when he saw the many mutilated corpses that lay on the streets of Redwater.
"Help!" someone yelled.
Marcus ran to the cries while Franz and another knight fought a different enderman. He ran into an alleyway and saw the father and daughter he'd met when they first entered Redwater.
"Sir, help us please!" the father yelled while protecting his daughter from the approaching enderman.
"Help us!" the daughter yelled with tears rolling down her eyes.
Marcus pulled out an ender pearl and threw it against the wall. It hit just above the enderman and Marcus dropped down atop of it. It was taken completely by surprise.
Slice!
The top part of the endermans head slowly slid off. Marcus reached into the head and grabbed the ender pearl inside before the body toppled over.
"Thank you sir!" the girl ran up and hugged Marcus. Her tears ran down the diamond armor. The father also embraced Marcus and he reciprocated.
"Find somewhere safe and hole up there," said Marcus, "I still have a job to do. Stay safe."
Marcus found Franz had killed the enderman and ran over to him, "Where's the big one?"
"I don't know, it keeps teleporting all over the place!" Franz answered.
Suddenly, the mutant enderman appeared down the street. It crushed a house and began to rummage inside the rubble. From the rubble, it pulled out a woman. She screamed and begged for help, but it was too late. It threw her into his massive jaws and bit down. The woman's body exploded into purple particles as it bit down.
"Come on!" Marcus yelled, but it was too late again. It had already teleported away. "Damnit!"
"Maybe Notch can kill it!" said Franz, "You saw how quickly he killed the other mutants!"
"Yeah, lets go," Marcus agreed.
Marcus and Franz ran through the streets to the entrance. The knights had managed to clear out many of the enderman near the front so there weren't any distractions. The place now seemed more deserted. The front was filled with nothing but dead bodies of soldiers and enderman. A cold chill ran up Marcus's spine.
When they arrived at the entrance, they were astonished to see a pile of monster bodies blocking the now destroyed gate. At the base of the corpse pile, Notch stood there, catching his breath.
"Notch!" Franz yelled, "You're okay! Does this mean Herobrine's dead?"
Notch simply shook his head.
"Shit," Franz whispered.
"D-Don't worry, we'll be ready next time," Marcus reassured them, "Nice job blocking up the gate."
Notch laughed, "Yeah, just like that night at Fort Deesplate." There was a pause, "Now, where is that enderman."
It didn't take them long to find the mutant enderman. It was near the center of town, attacking a large building. The building was crumbling down, a quarter of the building had already been destroyed. The horror set in when they realized it was attacking the hospital.
Thomas! Marcus thought. Without saying a word, Marcus sprinted for the hospital. Notch and Franz quickly followed suit.
"When we get there! I need Notch to cause a distraction while Franz and I get people out of there!" Marcus ordered, "Prioritize saving as many people as you can!"
"Yes sir!" Franz and Notch both yelled.
They passed by a group of soldiers which Marcus ordered to help them evacuate the hospital. More soldiers followed and soon they amassed a group of fifty soldiers running to the hospital.
The mutant enderman bellowed out a horrifying shriek as it continued its assault. Marcus and the others did not break pace, even though they could feel their ears starting to bleed.
When they reached the hospital, Notch leaped high into the air. Marcus had never seen Notch leap this high before. The blades on his sword glowed with fire as he took his first swing; and completely missed.
The mutant enderman teleported one block out of the way of the strike. It went in to grab Notch, but he managed to cut all of the fingers off one of the hands. The shriek that followed was one of the loudest Marcus had heard all night. Just before he busted through the doors, he saw the fingers instantly regenerate as if they were teleported back on to its hand.
The inside of the hospital was pandemonium. Doctors were desperately trying to evacuate the patients. Loved ones were running to their families. Some patients were crawling on the ground to get away. The soldiers dispersed to help. Marcus helped an injured woman up and gave her to some doctors. He helped a child who couldn't find his parents. An elderly couple needed help out of their room.
Marcus could hear the battle outside. He could hear the mutant enderman rapidly teleporting around. He could hear limbs being sliced off and replaced. He could hear Notch being slapped around. He tried to pay no mind and had faith in Notch.
Marcus picked up an injured woman and was helping her outside. They had to go down a long hallway. Halfway through, an enderman appeared.
Damnit. Marcus thought. The enderman rapidly teleported through the hallway. Each time, it got closer and closer. The woman could barely stand, he didn't have a free hand to fight. He held the woman tight to shield her when he heard something else teleport in the hall. He looked to see Franz cutting off the legs of the enderman. It fell to the ground screaming and Franz stabbed it in the throat.
"Here, I'll take her," said Franz, "You get upstairs, I think I heard Thomas."
Marcus rushed upstairs. The floor had been abandoned. Papers and medical equipment lay all over the floors of the dimly lit hallway. The screaming echoed through the hall. Marcus ran to the door where the screams were coming from and was immediately blocked by an enderman. Its head pressed up against the ceiling as its back was turned to the doorway. Marcus could see around the enderman and saw it was grabbing onto Zacharius. Thomas lay on the ground motionless with a large, red lump on the side of his head.
Marcus pulled out his sword and tried to stab the enderman. It disappeared, leaving Zacharius to fall on the floor, coughing and wheezing.
"Hey, Zach, are you okay? How long did it have you?" Marcus asked while holding him up.
Zacharius coughed, "It…it…I can't see…all…see…purple"
"Hey, stay with me man, what happened?" said Marcus
"It appeared…I tried…defend him…grabbed me…he tried…save me…got hit," Zacharius could barely get out the words.
Marcus tried to comfort him, "It's okay, it should clear up, don't-"
The enderman teleported behind Marcus. Before he could react, it punched him into a wall. His vision became enthralled in purple again. It teleported again in front of him and punched him into the wall again.
Marcus pulled out an ender pearl and wildly threw it. It landed in the corner near the ceiling, however, Marcus wasn't ready. When he teleported, he hit a counter and fell onto the floor. When he looked up, he could see Thomas had opened his eyes.
"M-Marcus, y-your" Thomas weakly said.
The enderman teleported in front of Marcus again and slammed his head into the floor. It picked him and began to shriek in his face. He spotted the ender pearl in the back of the enderman's throat and reached for them. The jaw snapped shut on his hand. The pain was extreme and his vision was getting more clouded.
Suddenly, the enderman fell over and Marcus was dropped. It hit the side of the counter with its head and became disoriented.
"Marcus," said a voice behind the enderman, "Marcus!" He realized it was Thomas and he was holding his diamond sword. Thomas threw the diamond sword to Marcus and he quickly stabbed the enderman in the head, killing it.
For a moment, the two continued to lay down where they were, catching their breath. Marcus watched as the purple blood seeped onto the floor and crawled to him.
"Hey, Marcus," said Thomas.
"Yeah," Marcus replied.
"Don't let that stuff stain your armor" Thomas laughed.
Marcus laughed with Thomas. He clutched his side as he slowly got up and made his way to help Thomas off the floor.
"A cripple really shouldn't be fighting these things y'know," Marcus joked.
"Oh, I've learned that lesson a lot these past few days," Thomas laughed, "Where's Zach?"
Zacharius lay on the floor in a puddle of purple ooze leaking from his eyes.
"No…no…no, no, no, no, NO!" Thomas screamed, "ZACH!"
Thomas ripped himself out of Marcus's arms and fell next to Zacharius's body.
"ZACH! ZACH! GET UP!" Thomas screamed until he realized he was dead, "NOOOOO! FUUUCK!" Thomas began to cry.
How? Marcus thought. I didn't think he'd been held that long. It's my fault, it's all my fault. I should've been here sooner. WHY WASN'T I HERE SOONER?!
Marcus grabbed a blanket from off the bed and draped it over Zacharius.
Marcus grabbed the crying Thomas and pulled him in for an embrace, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry I wasn't here quick enough. I'm sorry!" Marcus also began to cry. "I should've-" The two looked into each other's tear-covered eyes. They embraced each other harder to comfort each other as they both cried.
"HEY!" Franz yelled as he finally ran into the room, "We need to get you guys out of here! That big bastard is about to take out this section!"
Marcus could now hear more clearly. He couldn't hear the shrieks of the mutant enderman anymore. All he heard was the destruction of the hospital and the screams of the patients. All he could hear was suffering.
I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE! Marcus thought as he helped Thomas off the floor.
"Take Thomas, get him out of here, now," Marcus ordered as he pushed past Franz to the door.
"What are you doing?" Franz asked.
"I'm going to kill this mutant."
