Welcome back to Ashes of Midnight. Last time, Cynder and Captain America faced down Crossbones one final time on the last bridge out of danger in Transia. Crossbones put up one hell of a fight, but ultimately Cap and Cynder prevailed, and Crossbones fell off a bridge to his presumed death. But not before slipping a flash drive to Captain America, who was trying to pull him up from his fall, with allusions to an "old man" that both of them knew, whom Cap was the only one able to outwit, and is no longer on this mortal plane. We'll get to what that may mean later on, but for now, something more pressing is happening. What could that be? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up in The Abbey, where Captain America is pouring over the contents of the flash drive Crossbones handed him before he fell. And now we see exactly what it contains, some kind of HYDRA records. Or at least scans of paper ones, since all the dates on them are from World War II.)
Cynder: Any idea what Crossbones was trying to slip you?
Captain America: Honestly, I'm still trying to get through these records. Doesn't help that I haven't used my limited knowledge of German in 80 years.
Cynder: (A little surprised by that) You know German?
Captain America: Enough to decrypt intercepted reports after Bletchley Park cracked them. Never really knew what went on there back in the day. (Looks at their computer system, the descendant of what went on at Bletchley Park) Who'd have guessed what they came up with would be everywhere when I got back?
Cynder: Huh. You learn something new every day.
(At this point, Nico Minoru walks in, looking for someone, seeing Captain America first)
Nico Minoru: Hey, Cap, have you seen Cynder anywhere?
Cynder: (Stepping out from beside Captain America) What's up Nico?
Nico Minoru: Ah, good. I've been looking everywhere for you, Wanda and Spyro have been looking for you for hours now.
Cynder: (Knowing the most likely reason they'd be looking for her) Thanks, Nico. I'll go check that out. (To Captain America) Think you can handle this?
Captain America: Roger that.
Cynder: Good. I'll be back soon, hopefully.
(With that, Cynder and Nico Minoru walk off, with Cynder a little surprised that Nico is still with her)
Cynder: Did Wanda and Spyro say where they'd be?
Nico Minoru: Agatha's Shrine.
Cynder: Thanks, I'll take it from here.
Nico Minoru: Cool. See you at the ritual site then.
(That remark takes Cynder aback. She had no idea that Nico Minoru knew about any of this.)
Cynder: How the...?
Nico Minoru: Spyro may be the strongest here, but he cannot keep a secret under pressure to save his life.
Cynder: (Rolling her eyes half playfully, half annoyedly.) Remind me not to trust him with my holiday gift plans. How many others know?
Nico Minoru: Just myself, Magik, Robbie, and Blade.
Cynder: So now it's just the Midnight Sons.
Nico Minoru: Yep. None of us told anyone else, least of all Caretaker.
(And with that, this duo arrives at Agatha's Shrine, where Scarlet Witch and Spyro are waiting.)
Scarlet Witch: There you are!
Cynder: Sorry I'm late, the Transia situation took a while longer than expected.
Spyro: (Seeing Nico Minoru is with her) I guess Nico told you that I told the rest of the Midnight Sons.
Cynder: Normally, I'd be pissed. But since it's just this circle, and not Caretaker, we'll probably be fine.
Scarlet Witch: Good, because the moon isn't going to get any more right than it is now. We need to do this now or we'll miss our opportunity for who knows how long.
Cynder: Then we'd best not delay.
(Wasting no time, the four progress towards the ritual site, ending our scene for today.)
And that looks like a good place to end for now. So, it looks like Spyro and Scarlet Witch have completed their work on the Gray Senechal, and the moon is at last in position. Now's the only chance to bring Agatha back and put an end to Malefor's machinations. And it looks like it won't just be the three of them at the ritual side, because now Nico, Magik, Blade, and Ghost Rider all know about this too. Spyro really can't keep a secret can he? But on the plus side, Caretaker still has no idea. That's good. But anyways, next time, the ritual is conducted. But will it be successful? Or are we about to lose Agatha Harkness for good? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
