Welcome back to Ashes of Midnight. Last time everyone gathered as gamma clouds started to fill the air. Signalling the Midnight Sun grows near. Meanwhile, Cynder started thinking about all of this, and realized the plan Malefor appears to be going with makes no sense. What does he gain by simply reviving Chthon? If he were still working with Lilith, that may have worked. But he's already betrayed her by this point. So what's he up to? Well, there's more to do before the final battle comes around. So, what's next? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up in The Forge where Magik and Doctor Strange appear to be discussing something)
Doctor Strange: And it was glowing like this when you came in here?
Magik: Yes. It was like something turned it on. Maybe it's reacting to the Midnight Sun.
Doctor Strange: I think that's exactly what it's doing.
Magik: It's owner is returning and it wants to look good I guess.
Doctor Strange: That's... exactly what I was thinking.
Magik: I know a thing or two about magic artifacts. Particularly when they're swords.
(At this point, Cynder walks in and sees what Doctor Strange and Magik are discussing. The dagger from Project Gottmorder is floating)
Cynder: Do I even want to know what's up with that thing?
Doctor Strange: Illyana and I were discussing exactly that, among other topics.
Magik: Talking shop primarily.
Doctor Strange: That does remind me, Cynder. Tony and I have been looking into this... Godkiller. And while our research has been limited, we did find something. Though it's rather... distressing. Though I should like to double check my scrolls before giving that firm diagnosis.
Cynder: Doc, in case you've forgotten, the sky outside is green with gamma infused magic. We don't have time for double checking anymore.
Magik: That's what I was trying to tell him. Looks like you're outvoted, Doc.
Doctor Strange: (Sighs) Fine. But I'll preface this with it's just a possibility. But this blade isn't made to fight Chthon. It's made of Chthon. When he was banished centuries ago, a piece of him was shaved off and went missing. Looks like Red Skull found it.
Cynder: What is it with Nazis and being able to find weird occult stuff like this?
Doctor Strange: That's a phenomenon even the Sorcerer Supreme doesn't dare explore.
Magik: Well that's a first.
Cynder: (Puts a lot of it together) Sounds like we would've needed The Hunter from the start.
Doctor Strange: That's my guess. And knowing how you were drawn to it before, it doesn't sound like it will end well if you do use it.
(For a moment, Cynder is contemplative, as if she genuinely has doubts about this thing. But then, she steels her resolve for what may be the last time.)
Cynder: If there's even a 1% chance that this thing can change the tide of this war, we have to try.
Doctor Strange: I had feared that's what you'd say. But, it doesn't seem like we have much of a choice.
Cynder: Glad to see we're on the same page, Stephen. Now, how did you, Bruce, and Tony do brainstorming last night?
Doctor Strange: It was quite fruitful.
Magik: You should see what they came up with.
Doctor Strange: To put it simply, we've prepared a suit for everyone that will withstand the magic disaster to come. There's one for you up in your room too.
Cynder: Good to know. Get the word to everyone that they need to don them. We need to mobilize straightaway.
(With that, Cynder walks out of the Forge and up to her chambers, where she sees the suit Doctor Strange spoke of laid out on her bed. And as she starts to change into it, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up. The final battle nears, and it looks like Gottmorder's got some risks to it. But Cynder's really looking to end this war before anything else goes wrong. As dangerous as this dagger may be, being a literal fragment of Chthon and all, it may just be their only hope. Let's just hope Cynder can handle it. Next time, we get ready for one final battle. So be sure to tune in for that! Same time... same channel!
