Chapter Twenty-Six:
"FIGHT!"
Ashido went on the offensive first, sending out a left hook, straight at Kendo's face.
WHACK!
The audience was silent for a few moments.
Mina's face was sent upwards, accompanied by a small stream of blood. The weapon in question? A rising kick that stopped the pink girl's punch that was only inches from her face.
"Okay... that's a bit much, don't you think?"
"No, it's not. In fact, both of them are taking this fight seriously. This is the same mindset that should be taken when working as a Pro Hero: not hesitating. However, the style that Kendo uses... it's a bit too familiar for my taste. It's almost like Midoriya's to an extent."
The pink girl was not out, she wiped her nose and continued the fight...
Kendo wouldn't let up at this point, she went on the offensive, going forward by throwing a straight punch. Ashido then side-stepped while putting up an elbow guard, sliding across the arm and...
SMACK!
An elbow strike right into the face! It sent her back one to two inches, dazing her, which led to Ashido taking advantage: she ran up to get Kendo in a clinch and sent multiple knee strikes.
As the flurry kept coming... Kendo let down her guard and picked the moment to strike.
WAM!
A lower punch was sent into Ashido's stomach, stunning her, and Kendo followed up with a right hook into the face.
"Bring it, Ashido. I know you have more in store."
The pink girl just grinned, then said: "You're right. It's time for me to win this."
Kendo then used Quirk right afterward, enlarging her fist in an attempt to strike Ashido, but something happened.
WHIFF!
She felt a lightness.
'Wait, wasn't she supp-'
A punch to the noggin interrupted those thoughts, making her slack a bit, and be the on the receiving end of Ashido's strikes.
The pink girl sent an uppercut, payback for earlier, she thought. Next, she grabbed the back of her head which was dead center for an elbow strike.

"I'm curious now, how's she able to get the drop on Kendo? I know she does martial arts and all but Kendo's been doing it longer... so why?" asked a curious Jiro.
"Hmm... I believe it's the positioning. Specifically being in the opponent's blind spot, " spoke up Midoriya. Jiro's eyes lit up in surprise, asking when did he arrive. "Only a minute ago. Right at the moment, Ashido struck her with the elbow.
Oh, right. Ashido is utilizing her footwork to be in the blind spot. That's why Ashido is getting the drop on her."
"So even if Kendo is technically stronger than her, there's nothing she can do about the blind spots that Ashido's exploiting now?"
"Correct. However, this fight can still turn around."
Ashido felt confident.
However, even she noticed that overhand strike that was coming towards her. She quickly backed away, thinking this was-
SMACK!
She was hit with an uppercut.
WAM!
WAM!
BAM!
A series of strikes were sent into Ashido's frame, all stunning her for a bit, right before...
Jumbo Lance!
A spear hand strike that made contact with Ashido, hitting her straight in the chest, and sending her tumbling to the ground.
"HOLY! ASHIDO'S DOWN!"
She then got up but clutched her chest in a bit of pain. "Damn... ow... you hit hard."
"Says the person who got me in my blind spot."
The two say no more and get back into it.
Kendo went on the offensive, punching Ashido who was trying to block each one, but two got her in the face. The pinkette starting limping, almost falling, but it was a feint.
WHIP!
"YAOW!" yelped Kendo as she raised her front leg due to sharp pain. As she was distracted, she was lifted up by Ashido, decently high and slammed down on the ring! Ashido was now top of her!
The pink girl then started wailing on her, forcing Kendo to put her guard up. The barrage of punches kept going but was slowing down due to that attack in the chest.
POW!
In the span of a few seconds, Itsuka responded with an elbow strike, right into Mina's cheek. The pain was instant, then felt the transfer of pain in the chest and ab areas. Ashido opened her eyes, only to feel the impact of a kick into the ribs.
Kendo's guard was down.
Ashido worked through the pain, leaping from her spot, delivering a knee strike straight into her stomach. The pink girl grabbed her head but instead of an elbow strike, it was a fast headbutt.
And a second one.
Itsuka decided to use a trump card in her arsenal.
Indra: Thunderbolt!
A crackling sound was heard, almost like a bolt of lightning striking the ground. Ashido was sent flying back, crumpling on the ground, but there was a cost: Itsuka's hand was damaged. The fingers were cracked, it would send a normal person writhing in pain, but Itsuka managed to bare it.
On Ashido? A fair imprint of a fist was left on her.
"You're not getting up from that, ow. Ow," replied Itsuka, feeling the pain a bit.
Audience Stands [Student Sections]
1-A was speechless if there was a better word to describe it. However, one spoke up.
"K-K-Kendo managed to down Ashido. I-I-In one h-hit."
The source of that being Mineta who was crying in fear. Midoriya, on the other hand, was analyzing the fight but also wondering if Ashido is okay. The rest of 1-A were the following:
"She... just... took down Ashido. Like she was made of paper."
"Kendo's a lot tougher than she looks. In fact, you could make the argument she's 1-B's response to Midoriya."
"S-She could have killed Ashido, does anyone else notice?!" shouted a worrying Momo.
Ashido was twitching a bit, struggling to stand up, but she was panting in pain. However, that lasted for a few seconds before she fell down to the ground.
"WINNER BY KNOCKOUT! ITSUKA KENDO!"
Itsuka walked towards a KO'ed Mina, mainly carrying her off the ring, and thankfully the medics were on the scene.
"What an unexpected finale! The Dance Battler did put a good fight in the long run, but it wasn't enough to close the gap! Onto the next match!"
Nurse's Office
Mina was resting up, slowly stirring awake, but noticed that Kendo was there.
"I'm guessing I lost, right?"
Kendo nodded, but Ashido sighed in disappointment. "You were just too tough for me, no offense."
"What are you saying? You did have me on the ropes for a bit, exploiting my blind spots and all that. That's the mark of someone smart at the very least."
"Ow... that last attack you gave, what was that?"
"A risky technique that emulates the sound of lightning striking the ground. However, my hand is mangled in the aftermath," says Kendo while showing off her hand which had broken fingers. However, she managed to force the fingers to contract into a fist, albeit with some effort.
Gourai-Ryu Ougi: Union Bone
Ashido cringed a bit, knowing that hurt a lot.
"Oh, this takes time. It takes delicate control to move the fingers, it stings a bit, but you get used to it."
"I'm guessing you were screaming in the pain the first time?"
"Oh, definitely. However, there's something I need to ask too: where did you learn to fight like that?"
"Chimera's Den. Sensei Alejandra and Oguro did not fuck around when it came to training me. I also never knew some of the students hit like a tank, especially this one wolf-looking guy. Then that one girl with an eyepatch."
Kendo barely flinched, considering that her family was full of hard-hitting martial artists, especially her grandfather.
"Well, I definitely see where you learned now. I heard things about that place, especially about those two. One was apparently an ex-vigilante and the other was a former mercenary. But then again, they're just rumors."
"You know what they-oh crap, I think the next match is starting!"
"...AND HERE'S THE SECOND MATCH FOR THE QUARTERFINALS!
IN THE LEFT CORNER! THE NIGHTMARE HERSELF, SUNAKO YORUCHO!"
The white-haired girl made her way to the ring, getting into a ready stance.
"IN THE RIGHT CORNER! THE MAD BOMBER WITH AN EXPLOSIVE TEMPER! KATSUKI BAKUGO!"
Bakugo scoffed, but the intro was at least better in comparison to his first intro.
"FIGHT!"
The bomber blasted off first, mainly to get the first strike on the girl. Sunako managed to side-step, grabbing the boy underneath the armpit, and turning him sideways. Bakugo was now feeling unstable, trying to get out of her hold, but felt his supporting leg get hit by Sunako's side leg.
"SHIT!"
He was being pulled further into the front corner.
WHAM!
Sunako used a rotational front throw which had a leg sweep involved.
"OUCH! Bakugo was just thrown like a rag doll into the ground!"
"That was basically Judo, one of its leg techniques known as the Oguruma."
"I read some of their files, courtesy of Mr. Kan. It turns out that Yorucho was a member of the Judo Club from Kanagawa Prefecture."
The fight continued with Bakugo yelling in anger, then let off an explosion right at Yorucho. The girl desperately put up her guard, but the burns got to her. Gritting her teeth, she formed some black dust, which Bakugo noticed and quickly backed away.
"Oh no, you don't."
Yorucho now went on the offensive, still generating some black dust, and somehow formed small gauntlets of dust on her hands.
Black Dust Arms!
She then threw a right punch which Bakugo dodged and then sent an explosion to the face, sending her back quite a bit, but that meant her left arm was free.
BAM!
A punch was sent straight into the stomach of Bakugo. It was perfect, the explosive boy was stunned for a bit, leading Yorucho to put him in a headlock.
"GET-"
BAM!
"OFF!"
BAM!
"ME-"
BOOM!
"Krueger!"
"GAH!" gasped Yorucho, feeling the burns, now backing away but she was grinning, saying: "Now, it should start working."
"What the fuck do you-"
Before finishing that sentence, the world darkened, all with the ring being the only thing fully lit.
"What the-"
In the distance, he saw his old school, the dump known as Aldera Junior High, but it looked boarded up.
"Remember Bakugo?" said a familiar voice.
"Yea, he was supposed to be some big-time hero?"
Bakugo's eyes widened at those familiar, no, he recognized them. The two 'extras' that followed him around, their names were Yubi and Tsubo... maybe?
"It sucks that he failed out in the middle of the year."
The explosive kid's eyes widened a bit, but he was pissed instead.
BOOM!
"The fuck you mean I failed! I'm going to be the number one-"
"All that talk of being the number one, but that's all it was... just talk."
"YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT, EXTRA!"
BOOM!
As soon as the explosion, the two were still there, talking badly about him.
"How?! Why aren't you going down!?"
BOOM!
BOOM!
"Bakugo just became another hero wannabe, didn't even make it to graduation. Last I heard, he was working some stiff job in his hometown."
Bakugo only unleashed an explosion after explosion... mainly until he got in the back of the head.
SMACK!
He felt the sensation of being thrown on the ground, forcing him to realize this: this was an illusion.
"THAT'S IT! YOU THINK YOU CAN TALK BADLY ABOUT ME BEHIND MY BACK?! FIGHT ME PROPERLY!"
Blast Rush Turbo!
He propelled himself to where he believed the Krueger's spot was.
"You remember that guy we picked on... Midoriya?"
"Yea... what about him?"
"He is now within the top ten... talk about irony. I'm in a dead-end job while Midoriya is praised as a hero!"
"Maybe we should have followed Midoriya instead..."
"SHUT...
UP!"
Bakugo was raging further, right at the mention of 'Midoriya' and 'praised', his only response to it: keep throwing explosions. He kept doing it until he got kicked from the front, then got hit in the face... right before yelling
"GOTCHA!"
BOOM!
A female yelp confirmed it, he hit his target, and he noticed a few things: things going back to normal. The world returning back to the UA Stadium and he got a good look at his opponent.
Yorucho was still holding on, burns were on her arms, along with her P.E. uniform having some holes in it.
"I'll-"
Pant
"-give you credit.
You managed to make me lose it for a bit. But you should have knocked me out or ringed me out at that moment."
"The same thing, you managed to keep your composure under the effects of my Quirk."
"Let's finish this, Krueger."
They both rush forward...
WHAM!
A fist was in Yorucho's cheek while a fist was in Bakugo's stomach. The latter coughed for a bit which was that moment that the girl took advantage of. She grabbed his arm and threw him over her shoulder, right into the ground.
"Dammit..."
Bakugo was trembling a bit due to being thrown on the ground a few times, he started throwing some punches but they were a bit sloppy, making them easy to dodge. This was settled with an elbow strike to the face, but he kept standing and tried attacking once more.
In a period of six seconds, he was in a chokehold.
The next seven seconds had Bakugo trying to get out.
The last four seconds would be Bakugo going limp.
"WINNER BY KNOCKOUT, SUNAKO YORUCHO!"
Audience Stands [Kensei's Section]
"I'm not, no, slightly surprised that Boom-Boom lost," Rouga responded.
"Boom-Boom?" questioned Carmilla.
"My nickname for Bakugo. Oh, right. Yorucho took advantage of the kid's temper, making him lose focus to a degree but he would quickly recover. I'll give him some credit: he's smarter than he appears."
Audience Stands [Student Sections]
1-A was shocked, but it was an understatement.
"How?! How did he lose?!" Mineta yelled, shocked at the outcome.
"That girl's Quirk, it's likely based around manipulating the opponent's mind, likely showing things they either fear or really dislike." as Midoriya folded his arms, realizing that his childhood friend was not as powerful as he thought.
"So you're thinking she could be the biggest threat in the tournament?" Jiro asked. She was a bit curious about this too. "Just one touch and that's it, the match is in her hands."
"Aside from Todoroki, yes," said Yaoyorozu. "In addition, we all know she's at least proficient in Judo."
"Is Bakugo any proficient in unarmed combat?" asked Shoji, arms crossed. "If he did, he would have better chances when fighting up close."
"From what I have seen, only a bit. Mainly in using his Quirk with his hands."
"I see."
"He's going to be very pissed once waking up, is he?" piped up Kirishima. Izuku and Shoji nod in response. The red-haired boy only sighed.
Nurse's Office
Bakugo wakes up, not remembering what happened. The next few seconds would have the boy flashback to his match, the one with Krueger.
"What... the... fuck! THE FUCK! I LOST!" screamed the boy, throwing his fists into the bed, his frustration ever-growing. This was the second loss he was dealt with in his life. The realization was creeping upon him, he wasn't the strongest or even a contender to be the Number One hero.
He didn't generate explosions surprisingly, just gripped his sheets with impotent fury.
"Dammit...
Deku...
HE DID THIS!
THAT BUFF BASTARD!
HE TURNED THAT PEBBLE... INTO A FUCKING ROCK!"
The boy stewed in anger, blaming Kensei instead, and not his own shortcomings.
Player Waiting Room 1
Iida was prepping himself, especially for how Midoriya fights but had this nagging thought in his head: 'How exactly am I going to fight Midoriya, let alone win the match?'
He took a deep breath, trying to calm yourself.
"My brother would tell me to approach this from a calm point of view."
Player Waiting Room 2
Midoriya is shadow-boxing, mainly predicting what type of attacks Iida will use in their match.
"Iida's a speed-based fighter, that's for sure. However, his style relies on his legs, and rarely he uses punches. The idea would be to take out his legs because going for a ring-out will be impossible."
"Huh, gonna be honest, I thought that Bakugo would win."
"What type of Quirk was in effect, that's the question."
"... AND SET. HERE IT IS, MATCH 3 OF THE QUARTERFINALS! IN THE LEFT CORNER, THE CLASS REP OF 1-A WHO'S FAST AS HE IS STRICT! GIVE IT UP FOR TENYA IIDAAAAA!"
The blue-haired teen was focusing and stretching for a bit.
"IN THE RIGHT CORNER! HE'S BEEN MAKING LOTS OF HEADWAY, GIVE IT UP FOR THE EMERALD FIST, IZUKU MIDORIYA!"
"Emerald Fist?" responded both Aizawa and Antonius.
"Truth be told, it's a good fighter ring name. Especially with his martial arts skills. OH, AND... FIGHT!"
Iida then boosted forward in an attempt to catch Midoriya off-guard, primarily with a fast kick. However, the boy stepped back by one step, making Iida miss entirely. The speedster then attempted to strike again by pivoting with a roundhouse kick, but Midoriya quickly blocked.
"What-"
Iida was interrupted by the green-haired boy gripping his leg, then his standing leg got swept, and he fell right into the ground. He got up, ready to fight again, but...
SMACK!
Iida's head went up, hit by a whip of sorts.
"Why is Midoriya acting... a bit merciless?" asked a worried Present Mic.
"He's taking Iida seriously. Problem child knows the extent of Iida's abilities as a fighter so far."
The fight between speedster and fist-fighter is halted temporarily, but the latter doesn't give him a chance to recover. He throws a right straight to Iida's face, then a low roundhouse kick to the leg, stunning him, and a rising kick with the other one.
Iida takes some steps back in order to prevent himself from getting pummelled further. He gets into a runner's stance, then the engines on his calves boost forward in another attempt to hit Midoriya.
A fast roundhouse kick towards the head.
SMACK!
The attack did connect, but it was hitting Izuku's guard. In fact, he was barely budging.
"Wait, how?!"
The answer would never come as the fist-fighter responded with a heavy middle roundhouse kick into the side, forcing to Iida to cough up, but he wasn't done yet. The speedster grabbed him in a clinch and went on for a series of knee strikes, trying to wear down Midoriya's guard.
However, Midoriya's guard was still holding despite the bruising. In a few seconds, he swayed to the side, dodging the next knee strike, and threw a roundhouse kick into his back. The speedster was reeling a bit, then recovered by attacking Midoriya.
BAM!
Iida's head is turned upwards, courtesy of a palm strike to the chin.
He didn't let up, he unleashed a series of rapid strikes: straight punches, jabs, and elbows into the boy's upper frame. He couldn't block on time, getting his momentum interrupted, and also getting hit center-line.
SWOOSH!
Iida took a risk by launching a rising kick, interrupting Izuku's combo, and then recover.
"You're good...
But this is my match, Midoriya!"
Iida boosted forward once again, but he was not taking chances at this point.
Recipro Burst!
A powerful kick is sent towards him, sending him back a few inches, and then Iida went forward with several kicks in succession. He dodged twice but got hit by three other kicks.
"WOW! Iida might turn this around! Kicks might-"
Midoriya catches Iida's final kick, then performs a takedown by sweeping his other leg, and slams him down onto the ground.
"...And that's that... I guess."
Iida was stunned by that surprise hit, then tried punching him but the green-haired kid parried that telegraphed strike with ease. Izuku's classmates were a bit shocked at this, he was beating Iida.
The speedster was unable to get one over him. But. He tried the other hand.
Izuku's response to that was a headbutt. Into the nose.
1-A flinched, followed by the rest, but the sole exceptions were Kendo, Ashido, and surprisingly Shoji. Kirishima is a bit mixed about this.
The speedster gasped, trying to breathe, then got his guard up as Midoriya starting wailing on him once again. Iida had enough fuel for one last boost and after that, it would stall for ten seconds, and those ten seconds is where it would be a brawl at that point.
RECIPRO BUR-
An elbow drop into his chest made him gag for a bit.
He was now getting desperate, throwing a punch which Midoriya easily blocked, and he went low to hit him near the ab area. Then an uppercut into the face, then an elbow into the neck, and an overhand into the shoulder.
The speedster then got one in, a knee to the solar plexus.
"How's... that?" responded a panting Iida.
"Not bad. Not bad at all, Class President."
They took stances, ready to fight. The green-haired boy came closer, attempting to throw a punch, which Iida attempts to parry. However, the punch didn't come. In fact, the parry completely missed.
BAM!
Iida gets punched in the cheek, but Midoriya did not attack his face but instead his legs!
SMACK!
SMACK!
He's going for low kicks, aiming to take out Iida's legs, and occasionally stopping a few with stop kicks. There was a two-fold purpose to this: disabling Iida's legs was one goal and the other one being to keep his Quirk from working properly.
'No! He's limiting my movements! I can't... no, I won't get another chance like this!'
Iida then ran, no, attempt to run towards Midoriya. However, his legs took too much damage and fell down to the ground like a tree. The boy was gritting his teeth, trying to get up, but his legs were delayed in terms of response.
"I... can't... get-"
"LOOKS LIKE IIDA MADE A PERMANENT STOP! WINNER! IZUKU MIDORIYA!"
Midoriya requested for a stretcher to help out Iida.
Audience Stands [Kensei's Section]
"Holy. Shit," said Rouga.
"Yes, I agree. He fought smart too, plus nice usage of Broken Rhythm," Kensei responded. "You wouldn't blame me for thinking that blue-haired kid was a bit out-matched, right?"
"The advantage he had was speed, but his fighting style was a bit limited," responded Carmilla. "If anything, he should use Kickboxing as a base along with some Capoeira too."
"I believe that very well."
1-A Sections
"Midoriya's a monster. A fucking monster." said a calm Mineta, but it was to hide his fear.
"I can't believe I'm agreeing with the pervert, but here I am," responded Jiro, fear seeping a bit, "I'm a bit scared for the class rep. I mean, those hits looked fatal."
"No. They weren't," Momo piped up. "Each strike that he threw? Had the potential to hospitalize at the very least. It's him... that martial arts teacher, he taught him to fight like this."
"Now now, Yaoyorozu. Don't you think you're being a bit judgmental?" said a voice, revealing himself to be Ojiro. "Iida might be somewhat injured, but at least Midoriya ordered a stretcher for him."
"But-"
"And on top of that, he was respecting Iida by fighting him as seriously as he could. However, it seems that Iida couldn't catch up."
"Okay..." Yaoyorozu conceded, albeit reluctantly. "I'll give you that."
"That and I'm going to be honest, aside from me, Kendo, Ashido, and also Shoji, who else is proficient in martial arts?"
No one else answered, confirming Ojiro's question.
"If anything, this is a wake-up call, all of us need to not only train our Quirks but also learn some hand to hand combat."
"But-" Kaminari interrupted.
"Here's the thing: what if we face villains who have similar Quirks to Aizawa." No one in the section spoke up, some just kept their mouths shut, Ojiro then continued
"See, you know it too."
Nurse's Office
Iida was still on the stretcher, a bit shocked at his loss, but was thinking heavily.
'The way that Midoriya fought, I wonder... why didn't he use his Quirk in battle?'
"Four Eyes, you lost too, huh."
Iida quickly focused on the source, seeing Bakugo within a bed too, still healing from his loss. He then wondered how he-
"Look, I saw the fight on the TV set up there."
The speedster was surprised, Bakugo wasn't acting like his abrasive self, but was somewhat mellow. To a degree.
"It was that buff master and the other two buff extras, they made Deku fight like this! Not only that but that Krueger beat me! THAT'S THE FIFTH TIME SOMEONE ELSE MADE A FOOL OUT OF ME!
THAT BUFF BASTARD FIRST! THEN THAT WOLF! THEN THAT VAMPIRE HAG! THEN FUCKING DEKU! AND NOW?! THE KRUEGER!"
Iida sighed in response, thinking to himself.
'Of course... Bakugo ranting about his losses, I did not know him this long, but why. They are losses, you can either grow from them or let them define you. Something my brother taught me, wait, wolf, vampire?'
"Wolf? Vampire?"
"Two of Deku's other teachers, Four Eyes! That grey-haired bastard managed... to actually beat me without his Quirk. Just pure strength and martial arts."
"Wait, I met that person! He was in a fight with Aizawa, they were tied!"
Bakugo stopped sneering a bit, listening to what happened the other day. The whole encounter didn't shock the explosive kid too much, but the fact that the wolf-haired fighter managed to stand toe-to-toe with a Pro Hero still shook him.
Audience Stands [1-A]
The next match would be starting in a few minutes, Ochako was getting worried, especially since her opponent is Todoroki. Midoriya went up to her, trying to reassure her.
"There is a glaring weakness with how Todoroki fights."
"Wait, there's a gap?"
"Yes, he's not that great at unarmed combat. In addition, he only uses one half of his Quirk."
Ochako took this in, then saying: "Hmm... I think I can work with that. Todoroki has to have a limit, right? Otherwise, he'd be suffering from frostbite."
"There is a strategy on how to take him on. Maybe-"
"I think I have a strategy on how to deal with him, plus I remember that he has a bit of a temper too," Ochako responded. "... Wait, I think I have a strategy now. Apologies, Midoriya. I want to beat him on my own merits."
Midoriya understood by nodding.
Player Waiting Room 1
Shoto was mentally preparing himself and heard some steps coming forth, he turned around to see... his father. The flaming beard was very noticeable and then said:
"Shoto, do you still plan on continuing this little rebellion?"
The boy said nothing.
"If you used your other side, you would be dominating this Sports Festival."
The boy still ignored him.
"However, it seems that Midoriya boy seems to be more skilled than I initially thought.
There's something that's still bothering me, though."
Shoto, though still said nothing, made the effort to listen.
"It was the way he fought, almost like a certain vigilante. A hand to hand combat specialist. Keep an eye on him."
Player Waiting Room 2
Ochako was trying to breathe calmly.
"Remember. You're doing this for your parents, giving them the good life they deserve after all they went through."
She was doing some shadow-boxing, mainly inspired by Midoriya's exercises.
"ALRIGHTY THEN... THE LAST MATCH OF THE QUARTERFINALS BEGIN! IN THE LEFT CORNER, THE BUBBLY OCHAKO URARAKAAAA!"
The bob-headed girl was walking to the arena, still a bit nervous.
"AND IN THE RIGHT CORNER... THE COLD-SHOULDER PRODIGY! SHOTO TODOROKIIII!"
Todoroki arrived, laser-focused, and especially at Uraraka.
"FIGHTTT!"
The gravity girl rushes out first, but the hybrid boy sends out a wave of ice right towards her, forcing her to dodge. She tries catching him off guard by attacking the left side, but the boy quickly dodged by swaying back and sent out a jab.
'Crap!'
Ochako put up her guard.
BAM!
The girl was sent back a bit, then saw Todoroki send another wave of ice towards her, and in a split-second, she rolled out of the way and then levitated herself for a brief period of time.
Skill Release!
She then dropped, readying a kick... or so it would be.
The girl felt something frigid, her leg was frozen!
"What the-"
"It wasn't going to last long, to be honest. I'm sorry though..."
"I don't need that!"
Uraraka touched her frozen leg to make it weightless and sent out a wild kick to his unprotected left side. Todoroki blocked with his ice-making arm, adding more ice to her leg, but the weightlessness was still a factor.
SMACK!
A kick right into the side, shattering some of the ice, sending some small pieces onto the arena.
SLAM!
A front kick to Todoroki but caught it with both hands. In a surprising twist, he lifted her leg and sent a quick strike into her stomach, all before spreading the ice over her body, but only leaving the head intact.
"Are you able to continue?" asked Midnight.
Ochako, still stubborn, tried moving. However, she was still as the ice she was encased in.
"WINNER BY DEFAULT... SHOTO TODOROKI."
"The hell was that, Mic."
"The contestants that will move onto the semi-finals: Sunako Yorucho, Itsuka Kendo, Izuku Midoriya, and Shoto Todoroki," Antonius responded.
As the color commentators were chatting, Shoto melted the ice and then said to Uraraka:
"I'll be honest with you, I'm a bit surprised you attacked my left side."
"Well, I thought I had a chance since you rarely used it. In addition, you're not the best at unarmed combat, no offense."
"None taken. My... father drilled Quirk training into me while neglecting some of the basics. I'm curious though, what motivated you to work so hard?"
Ochako then said: "It's a bit embarrassing, to be honest..."
"It is alright, let's get back to the others."
Outside UA Stadium
The hero known as Bladefowl was conversing a bit with the stranger, especially on how said stranger intervened to help a couple being harassed.
"Narusagi, I'm truly surprised. Although, I'd warn you against doing that."
"I know, I know. Illegal Quirk usage and Pros getting up in my business."
"Wait, were you..."
A cheeky smile appeared on Narusagi's face.
"Oh, no. I wasn't. A couple of thugs wasted a little effort on my part."
"Oh, right. I forgot how much of a skilled swordsman you are, plus your mastery of Nanto Hakuro Ken is another."
"I'm also in the search for an apprentice, one to carry on my style."
"Ah, that's understandable. Would hero academy students be your best bet?"
"Truth be told, yes. In addition, they need to cast off that naivete that everything will be solved without bloodshed. It's a little baffling really."
"I had to learn that the hard way, especially after I graduated from UA High. I realized that there will be some villains that will never listen to reason, even at the cost of their lives," Bladefowl responded, though with his tone being a bit heavy. "That one was called Devilface, but what shocked me was how he wasn't all about brute force."
"Yes, you told me that story before. It was confirmed that he was military-trained, but getting back to the topic: my style needs a successor, I'm not the only one in fact. Nanto Koshu Ken and Nanto Ho-oh Ken lack a successor too."
"Right. The only ones that have one are mine, the one at Crested Ibis Studios, and that's about it."
As the two conversed, Death Arms and Mt. Lady were both watching the screen, especially seeing who'd make it to the semifinals.
Audience Stands [1-A Section]
Ochako was walking a bit slowly, embarrassed at her loss, tearing up a bit.
"What's the matter, Uraraka?" asked Iida who noticed.
Through her tears, she answered, "I lost... I was outmatched from the start. I should have made more-"
"Listen, I understand. But don't let this get you down. It's the first time any of us competed in something like this. Besides, I believe you impressed some pros already."
"Wait, you think so?"
"Oh, definitely. Your fight against Todoroki definitely caught the attention of some pros. However, Todoroki will have a tougher time though."
Uraraka wondered why, until it clicked to her. "Oh... oh! He's likely gonna have to face Kendo or Midoriya in the semifinals or finals, right?"
"Yes."
"Oh, no. The way that Midoriya fought, he's gonna put Todoroki in the infirmary... is he?"
Iida nodded.
Player Waiting Room 1
Todoroki was stewing over a few things, especially over the fact that's he now going to the semifinals. However, there were two factors that would make it difficult to win the whole Sports Festival.
Midoriya and Kendo.
Both of them were trained, very well-trained, almost to the point where they don't need to use their Quirks in a battle.
"How... what are their secrets?!" said Todoroki as he smacked the wall with his fist. "Exercise methods? Brutal training? Limit breaking? It doesn't matter, I am winning this tournament. If anything, I won't need to find out their secrets.
I will defeat them."
Audience Sections
"So who do you think your student's facing off against in the semis?" asked Rouga.
"50/50. One says Kendo while the other says Todoroki," responded Kensei.
"I'm betting on Yorucho."
"I can't help but overhear a few things..." says a fairly masculine voice, Kensei looked at where the voice came from. It was revealed to be a tall man with built muscle on him, but what made him stand out was his beard composed of flames.
"So you think your apprentice has a chance against Shoto?"
"Oh, most definitely. You noticed it too, he's holding himself back. I presume you're Endeavor?"
"Correct, but I will have to agree with you. Shoto is holding himself back too much, even after I all did for him," responded Endeavor, folding his arms.
"Ice has its limits, but he did light up for a bit."
"It seems that your apprentice is more than capable of bringing out Shoto's full potential. However, it's his duty to surpass the number one hero."
Kensei noticed this conversation was feeling off, especially with the wording. However, he couldn't act on it because there needed to be more info to be absolutely sure.
Announcers' Booth
"So, how are the semifinals going to be set up?" asked Antonius.
Sunako Yorucho vs. Shoto Todoroki
Itsuka Kendo vs. Izuku Midoriya
"Oh. Yorucho will have an uphill battle against Todoroki. Even if he's using his ice only," Aizawa stated. "The range advantage is obvious. He'll likely freeze her before she gets in close."
"Now, now. Remember, Todoroki's not the best at unarmed combat, so he has to keep the fight at a distance," responded Antonius. "If anything, this is basically a Wild West showdown."
"The first strike will decide things."
Present Mic was prepping the mic, then said
"Alright! We're now moving onto the SEMIFINALS! WE WILL START IN A FEW MINUTES!"
The pale-haired girl known as Sunako was now breathing calmly, mainly to prepare against her toughest possible challenge, Todoroki. She saw how he fought, using overwhelming power with his Quirk alone.
She knew what she wanted to do, be a hero, but her overall goal: rise above being the delinquent she was and more. However, she didn't reveal that extra info to her classmates, it wasn't time to do so.
"Hey, are you feeling alright?" said her teacher, Vlad King.
Name: Vlad King
Quirk: Blood Control - It allows the user to manipulate their own blood after it has left the body; It can be used in a variety of ways: immobilization, armaments, and also defensive measures.
"... No. I'm feeling pretty nervous. I'm going up against a recommendation student."
"It is pretty intimidating, I'll admit, 1-A has some monsters but so do we. Your Quirk can decide things, but I would recommend flanking Todoroki to catch him off guard.
That Uraraka proved that he can be hit."
"Right, I'm still listening."
"Let him attack first, so you can use the ice as cover. I'm sure you can get around it."
Yorucho was still listening, plus she was thinking about how she can get the bi-haired boy in a locking technique, possibly to make him tap out. It was time for her to into the ring.
"ALRIGHT! IT'S TIME FOR THE SEMIFINALS!
IN THE LEFT CORNER! THE NIGHTMARE HERSELF! SUNAKO YORUCHOOO!"
The pale-haired girl walked into the ring, breathing a bit to calm herself, and then cracking her fingers to loosen them up.
"IN THE RIGHT CORNER! FROM RECOMMENDATIONS, HE'S AN EXPERT AT THE COLD SHOULDER! SHOTO TODOROKII!"
The bi-colored boy makes his way to the ring, a little sure of himself.
"AND... FIGHT!"
Yorucho took a simple stance, waiting for Todoroki to make the first move. In a period of several seconds, Todoroki closed the distance by creating an ice slide, desiring to end this fight soon.
'Oh, shit!'
The pale-haired girl was generating black dust in her arms, call it her own first strike, but Todoroki wasn't gonna make it easy.
"You won't get close. I'll fucking make sure of it."
A clash was sure to happen.
Author's Note: Apologies for taking too long, work, and the pandemic really ate up the majority of my time. That and my bosses really like my work ethic, so the chances of being a full-time employee are coming closer. The next chapter will be out sooner, especially since I have more time on the weekends. Again, I apologize for the delay.
Devilface was more or less inspired by a slasher of recent memory, Pillowface.
Glossary:
Indra: Thunderbolt - A technique in which the user aligns their joints to deliver a devastating strike in the process, sounding like a thunderbolt striking the ground. However, the drawback: the user's hand is greatly damaged in the process. It's more of a sure-kill move instead of a technique that can be used consecutively. Its original name is called Taishakuten: Rakurai.
Oguruma - One grasps the enemy's sleeve armpit with his pulling hand and the side of the enemy's collar with his lifting hand, then pulls him/her while turning sideways, destabilizing him/her toward the front corner. The player swings his lifting hand side leg around from the front so that it strikes the enemy's weight supporting leg between the thigh and the abdomen. Using both hands, the player pulls the enemy further towards the front corner. The follow up is a body twisting motion with a rotational motion towards the front. Its translation is 'Large wheel'.
Black Dust Arms - Yorucho generates black dust, courtesy of her Quirk, mainly forming glove-like armor. It's great for affecting opponents at close range, but contact needs to be made. Once contact is made, the enemy is affected by the Quirk, specifically making them face their fears. As a result, the enemy is disoriented, fighting enemies that aren't there. Its original translation is Kurojin Wan.
Broken Rhythm - A straight punch which lets the opponent attempt to parry, but there's the trick: the punch stops short, making the parry pass, and then the punch goes forward, hitting the target.
Stay tuned for the next chapter!
