Chapter Twenty-Seven:
"You won't get close. I'll fucking make sure of it."
The clash would happen.
Yorucho momentarily dodged an ice blast from Todoroki, then launched her own completed black dustball... which should have worked. However, Todoroki formed up an ice shield that dispersed the dustball upon contact.
"Ah, shit!"
The girl braced for impact!
However, it didn't come. Only the numbing feeling of ice coming up to her legs.
"What the?! Gotta. Move!"
She desperately tried moving, but the ice crept closer, slowing her movements. In fact, the only thing that the ice didn't cover was her head.
"Oh, you motherfucking-"
"WINNER BY TKO! SHOTO TODOROKI!"
Audience Sections [1-B Sections]
"Typical of 1-A. Never-"
A chop silenced a certain loudmouth; said chop came from Itsuka.
"Crap, she didn't have a chance," said a voice behind her. It was a very short-haired girl, hair short enough to be considered boy-like, built like a strawweight, not too heavy nor light for that matter. "If there's one thing I give Todoroki credit for, he didn't take any chances fighting Yorucho."
Name: Rami Akarui
Quirk: Aura Force - The user is able to utilize aura, but its usage depends on the color. So far, two applications have been found for it: limited flight and body-shaped shielding.
"Very true, Akarui. There's also something I noticed too, Todoroki rarely utilizes unarmed combat, does he?"
"It seems to be the basics of Boxing, that's about it," Rami said, folding her arms, thinking. "If anything, that's gonna be his downfall."
"I don't think so, it's his Quirk that overshadows any hand to hand techniques he'll use."
Rami took this in, then nodded.
Announcers' Booth
"Alrighty! The next match should begin in about a few minutes! What are your opinions on the upcoming match?"
"It is going to be a full-on close-quarters fight."
"If anything, it's going to be a great showcase for them."
Player Waiting Room 1
Midoriya was doing some shadow-boxing, picturing Itsuka from previous matches, and was getting into it...
"Hey, Izuku. Time for some pointers."
The boy stopped, turning to see Kensei, and then responded: "Alright."
"Gourai-Ryu is an effective style, but one glaring drawback: they need to hit multiple power points to cause damage instead of Hokuto Shinken's one-point method. Another pointer, since it involves Karate, you would need to dodge her strikes, and on top of that, attack before she makes an attack."
"Wait, you're talking interrupting before she strikes?"
"Correct."
"Then there's her Quirk, that's the issue."
"I'd recommend a forearm block or side-stepping. Elbow blocks are risky but viable to use, just needs the right moment."
Izuku was mentally noting all of this.
Player Waiting Room 2
Itsuka was doing breathing exercises, prepping for her match with Midoriya.
"I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"
"No, grandpa. You are not."
"Mind some pointers?"
"I don't mind at all, but what's your recommendation against-"
"Midoriya? Oh, there's an answer: aim for the legs to limit his movements. That way, his attention is divided. Another pointer: Activate your Quirk at the moment your fist makes contact, it's a good way to throw off his focus."
Kendo nodded.
"It's time for Match 2 of the SEMIFINALS!
IN THE RIGHT CORNER! HE HAS DOMINATED OPPONENT AFTER OPPONENT! YOU ALL KNOW HIM, THE EMERALD FIST! IZUKU MIDORIYAAA!"
Midoriya walked onto the ring with a focused gaze. The cheers were loud, loud enough to surprise Aizawa for a bit.
"IN THE LEFT CORNER, THE BIG SIS FOR 1-B, ITSUKA KENDOOO!"
Kendo threw some punches, showing off her confident self.
As the two walk into the ring, they start taking stances. Kendo took a neutral stance, knees slightly bent, the rear foot at a 65-degree angle, and a straight back and neck. Izuku took a basic stance: slightly bent knees, front foot slightly inwards, and arms close to the ribcage.
"...AND FIGHT!"
Kendo started off with a right straight, but it was a feint. She took Midoriya in a clinch, then sent several knee strikes into his body. Luckily, he held up his guard at the last moment.
SMACK!
The guard didn't dilute the impact as much as he hoped. She was very strong, stronger than they were in their last spar, that's for sure. In a split-second, Izuku tackled her to the ground and got her via the mount position. It then became an exchange of strikes, until a palm strike to the chest stunned her briefly.
Midoriya took his left arm around the outside of the opponent's right arm, then places it on the right hand. Anyone who knew grappling realized that the kid was going for an arm-bar.
The kid quickly hopped up to his feet, weight still on Itsuka's chest, and swung his left foot around her head to make sure both feet were parallel to each other. Itsuka was struggling to get out of the hold, forcing Midoriya to be close to her right shoulder as possible.
Next, gravity would do its work. Izuku sat down, falling on his back, but getting her arm in a prime position for the arm-bar.
Knees were squeezed together for a proper hold, locking her arm in place.
CRACKKK!
Itsuka was gritting her teeth due to the pain alone, but she managed to get on her knees, and then enlarge her fist, breaking out of Midoriya's hold.
Hokuto Snake Thunder Bite!
Midoriya did not give her a chance to recover, mainly weaving with boxing-type footwork, sending out a rush punch into Kendo, making her buckle more. She kept her guard up, bearing it.
However, she did get into a defensive stance: knees compact, feet facing at a 45-degree angle, but the rear foot is one shoulder-width apart, and more importantly, her arms are in a guard.
Raichin!
Midoriya then went on a barrage of strikes, elbows, and sometimes a headbutt. However, she barely budged. However, she also had an aura around her, enhancing her overall defenses too.
BAM!
Midoriya sent a punch right into her solar plexus, but it did not budge her. In fact, her eyes said bring it.
SMACK! BAM! POW! BAM!
Midoriya went on a barrage of knees, punches, elbows, and two headbutts. All it did was make his fists slightly sting, remarking that it's like striking a boulder composed of diamond. He stopped briefly, only to give a sucker punch, straight into the stomach.
It actually made her buckle a bit.
However, that was the girl's plan: get Midoriya in close for a grab.
Four Star Blow!
A fast series of four strikes were sent into the face, but the last strike had her fist grow to catch Midoriya off-guard. He was sent tumbling for a bit, but quickly recovered and got back into a stance.
"Huh, did not expect that, Itsuka."
"Pointers from a mentor."
They both dashed forward, sending and receiving strikes, but some were parried or outright countered. Itsuka sent out one hook, only for Izuku to dodge by lowering his body and rise up for an uppercut. It barely stopped her as she kept coming, especially one vertical punch that slipped through the boy's guard and decked him in the face.
Itsuka then responded with a low kick to the thigh, making a fairly loud noise as it made contact.
Audience Sections [1-A]
Mina flinched upon hearing, no, a majority of 1-A flinched upon hearing the impact.
"Oh, crap... she's stronger than I thought."
"Y-Y-Yes, s-s-she is," said a stuttering Momo. "W-W-Who trained her?!"
Izuku's leg shook a bit, made obvious by that loud impact, but he thought of something.
Meteor Face-Breaking Kick!
Itsuka immediately held her guard up, but no impact came.
BAM!
The impact was right again in the solar plexus, courtesy of a spinning back kick via the other leg. It was a feint, a clever feint, she thought. She then went forward, delivering a telegraphed overhand strike.
Midoriya was ready to counter, but the punch did not come.
Crimson Meteor!
She swayed to the side, out of the boy's sight, and swiveled 360-degrees to deliver a potent hook punch! The boy was stunned, then received another hook punch from her.
Aspect Thunder Flame Prison Kick!
The girl's foot was glowing, but it resembled more like that of flame than lightning. She hopped up, then brought her foot upwards, readying an axe-kick. Izuku, still somewhat dazed, immediately dodged the attack by rolling the side.
KRIK-CRACK!
A decent-sized crater was made with that attack alone! However, it was also sizzling with some smoke emanating from that too.
Announcers' Booth
"W-W-What t-the fuck!"
"Mic, watch your language."
"I have to agree with Mic, Aizawa. What was that? An axe kick that emitted flames and made a crater at the same time?"
"I'm gonna have to talk to both of them," Aizawa responded, "Especially on the techniques they used."
"Regarding that! This fight is now heating up!"
Izuku's eye widened at the technique she used, realizing she wasn't messing around. If anything, he did not mind it.
'So, she's using more Gourai-Ryu this time. It's only fair that I step this up a bit.'
Hokuto Rising Thunder Kick!
The boy goes into a quick pace, running up on Itsuka, then leap off!
SMACK!
A fast roundhouse kick sent towards Itsuka which she barely blocked, but there was a shallow wound on her hand, to say the least. However, the boy would still keep coming, ready to unleash a flurry of strikes.
The moment he stepped in and threw the first punch?
Itsuka held her hands up, parrying that same strike. Then the next one which was parried, but he managed to slip one in. The girl responded with an elbow strike at the same time.
SMACK!
Both hits made contact, stunning the both of them briefly, but Itsuka's other hand formed a fist quickly.
JUMBO LANCE!
A gigantic hand in the form of a spear-hand strike struck Midoriya, dead-center. Blood leaked out of Midoriya's mouth due to the impact of said attack as he was sent back but didn't tumble.
"Ow... that smarts. This is gonna end. But not. Just yet."
He once closed the distance, making Itsuka believe he's trying something risky. However, she knew she had to end this fight quickly. Otherwise...
Jumbo Mountain Pun-
The two enlarged fists only hit the air, forcing Itsuka to view in her peripheral: it was Izuku readying his shoulder for a tackle!
Vajra Tempest Assault!
A shoulder-tackle was sent into her side, making her lose her balance, but she tried her using her hands as a shield. However, her legs were open.
SMACK!
BAM!
Low kick upon low kick was sent into her legs. She grits her teeth in pain, enduring, but then felt sharp pains in her arm. It was Izuku coming in close with an elbow, forcing her to drop one half of her guard.
SLAM!
The inner part of her arm was exposed.
BAM!
Itsuka's limbs were feeling heavy, exposing her for a potential finishing strike, Itsuka was still struggling to lift her limbs. Izuku's hand was an inch away from her.
It then hit her.
The one-inch punch made a loud noise, like a rifle in the forest. Itsuka crumpled down to the ground but managed to land on a knee and coughed up some blood as a result.
"Well, this is definitely turning into a real bout, one between Gourai and Hokuto."
Izuku nodded in agreement.
"Let's finish this, Izuku."
Itsuka got back up, albeit with some difficulty. She then glowed with aura, but it was emanating electricity too.
Gourai-Ryu Ougi: Aspect Thunder Fist!
The raised hand was the primary weapon, crackling with electricity, ready to strike its target. The girl then dashed forward, going side to side, keeping a sense of unpredictability.
Hokuto Hundred Crack Fist!
Izuku sent out a flurry of fists, stunning not only the audience but also the commentators.
A-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TAH!
However, Itsuka knew his iteration was slower compared to his master's, making it easy to dodge.
"I have you now!"
WA-RAH!
The final strike from his combo was going at the same distance as Itsuka's lightning-enhanced palm.
SMACK!
Both of them struck at the same time, but Itsuka took slightly more damage.
"Well... you... won this..."
Itsuka struggled to finish the last part, crumbling down to the ground, shocking 1-B.
"W...W...WINNER BY KNOCKOUT, Wait! WHAT?!"
The ginger-haired girl rose up, mainly by a knee. There was something still driving her, though she had bruises and a bit of bleeding, she did not stay down.
"Well... I'm still standing, aren't I?" Itsuka said, albeit with a grin. "This fight isn't over... not just yet."
Izuku then took his stance, that was only his response.
He then ran forward, ready to finish the last remaining part of this fight. The boy threw a jab, but Itsuka managed to parry via forearm block, and then respond with a powerful uppercut!
However, the fist was enlarged!
Izuku's face was definitely feeling it, along with being disoriented. Itsuka then went forward to keep up the attack but was interrupted by a front kick, dead-center.
An elbow hit her in the face, dazing her, and then another. It was Izuku, somewhat recovered from being disoriented, now using the ring as a springboard to deliver a knee strike!
WHAM!
The audience collectively flinched, wondering if this was supposed to be a friendly match instead of an MMA fight.
Audience Sections [1-A]
"Oh... god... I'm not sure if I can keep watching," said Kaminari. "I knew that Midoriya practices martial arts, but holy shit, did they teach him to be this brutal?"
"Should we even get the counselor on this? No, I'm being serious," Jiro said, very concerned.
"They're being serious about this match, that's all," Ojiro interrupted. "However, the techniques they used... they seem a bit familiar."
The rest of 1-A was conflicted about this, even Mina herself.
Audience Sections [1-B]
"Kendo, you can do it! That greenhorn's second-rate!"
In the back rows, one of the students, a male with his hair in a low braid, his eyes were widened. He was muttering in Chinese, specifically saying: "Th-There's no way, that style is ac-actually fucking real?! I thought that was a rumor or in the very least, an urban legend! There's also Kendo, that style seems a bit too familiar for my taste too."
"Hiryu, are you alright?" asked a fellow classmate who had horns.
"Y-Yea, just some nerves watching this fight, that's all," said Hiryu who put on a grin for reassurance.
Itsuka felt that but then responded by dashing forward...
SMACK!
An elbow uppercut into Izuku's chin, but she wasn't done yet, she aimed for the midsections with twin hammerfists, causing the green-hair to gasp, and then leaning down. She hugged his legs tightly, then pushed against the hip bone and then dump him on the ground.
Arm Ring!
Itsuka got into a mount position, then started wailing on the boy with several strikes of her own, but he put up his guard to dilute the impact of her punches. As she was wailing upon him, the green-hair aimed for the chin, stunning her... but aimed for a KO with a final uppercut.
BOOM!
Itsuka's eyes were dazed, but she stopped moving, only to fall backward.
"W-W-W-WINNER, IZUKU MIDORIYA!"
Izuku was breathing heavily, very much so, especially after this fight. He felt hurt all over but was satisfied to a degree, mouthing: "If you want a rematch, name the time and place."
Stretchers would be called to get them.
Audience Sections [1-B]
"There's... there's no way, that greenhorn actually beat Kendo!? What did he actually do?!" exclaimed Monoma.
"He likely weakened her arm with that arm-bar and the punches on top of that were not wasted," said Akarui who was behind the blonde boy. "It was going to wear down her defenses a bit, but I'll give credit: Midoriya is more durable than I thought."
"Grrr... this isn't damn fair!"
"Like it or not, Monoma. He won."
[1-A]
"Holy crap, Midori won! By the skin of his teeth!"
"He's that strong, is he?" responded Kaminari. "Kendo did put up a great fight, though."
"No one's gonna mention, you know, the flaming axe kick!" exclaimed Mineta, "The big axe-kick that Midoriya barely dodged?!"
A good majority of 1-A did acknowledge that and some discussing how that's even possible. However, Ashido had an idea.
'Hmm... I can't believe I'm gonna think this. I don't think it's a different type of Quirk. In fact, it's a bit similar to Midori's Quirk. Aura or ki manipulation like those martial arts anime that my brother likes.'
As she was thinking things over, her thoughts were interrupted by Kirishima, wondering if there's anything wrong.
"Something weirded you out for a minute?"
"Oh, no, no, no. It's just that... you know, the flaming kick... and the brutality."
"Oh, that attack was manly! It's almost as if her spirit was in that kick alone. On the topic of brutality, some of us have to talk to him a bit."
"Yea... we should."
Kensei's Section
"HOLY..."
"SHIT..."
"Indeed. That was quite the bout," said Sugawara. "However, I did not expect her to use Aspect Thunder Fist."
"This is fairly concerning, especially since that he's facing Todoroki in the finals," said Kensei. "However... wow, they really went at it. Izuku did not stop. At all."
"Itsuka's a lot sturdier than you think, she was able to survive my training methods, and she's still improving to this day."
Itsuka was put on the stretcher, quickly being sent to the infirmary.
Izuku was still fairly wounded, coughing up a bit, slowly getting out of the ring, mainly going to the infirmary at this point too.
"Crap... that still stings."
The boy was limping a bit, but his mentor thankfully came to the entrance to help him to the infirmary.
"Hey, Izuku. The infirmary should be that way, and I'm hoping your mother isn't hyperventilating... hopefully."
"Oh... oh! She might be watching."
"Oh, she's gonna potentially kill us both."
"She's... just very worried."
"... Worried's an understatement."
Izuku laughed a bit in response to that, followed by Kasumi laughing a bit too.
Announcers' Booth
"Alrighty! The Finals should commence in a few minutes!"
Present Mic finished the announcement, then faced his other commentators. The grin on his face turning a bit serious.
"Okay, that's fairly suspicious. Kendo's Quirk is Big Fist, right?"
"Correct."
"Yes."
"Why. Just why the hell did her leg light up with fucking flames? Flames!"
"Hmm... there's one possible theory, but it's gonna sound like something out of an anime," said Antonius.
"... Try me, I have seen crazier things."
Antonius inhaled for a bombshell of a theory.
Phew...
"Ki manipulation."
"... Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"No, it makes a degree of sense. The way ki can be used, especially in anime is of the following: enhancing physical stats, energy blasts, or in the case of Kendo, emulating elements," responded Aizawa. "I know it sounds a bit farfetched. But how else can we explain it?"
"True, would that imply that Midoriya has it too?"
"There's no other way. If anything, that muscular man who was helping Midoriya seemed a bit... familiar."
The Infirmary
Itsuka was on a bed, covered in some bandages, mainly healing. The green-haired boy had some bandages around his arm, courtesy of the school nurse, Recovery Girl.
"Dearies, I understand that you want to give it your very best. But... really, learn to dial it back a bit," said an elderly voice. It was a short nurse, wore a doctor's lab coat with a dress that had yellow and red vest-like designs on either side, two yellow buttons, and a belt with a pink "R"-shaped buckle.
"Wait... you're Recovery Girl! The healer."
"Yes, yes. But there's something that's off about you."
Izuku flinched for a bit, stuttering out a response, "U-U-Uh, wh-wh-whatever y-you mean, Rec-covery Girl?"
"Your injuries aren't as severe as I thought. Normally, you would have broken ribs or torn ligaments at the very least. However, your ribs are only slightly cracked. The same thing as hers... are you bodybuilders?"
"Oh... no. We're really not. We just practice with our martial arts teachers. A lot."
"Hmm... well, tell them to restrain themselves a bit more."
Itsuka and Izuku both nod, Kensei was there, waiting near the doorway, hearing the diagnoses. As Recovery Girl leaves for a bit, she stops to see Kensei, saying: "I won't claim to understand your teaching style, but please tell them not to be too reckless."
"Can't make a promise on that, but on the reckless department? I'll try to mitigate that."
"See that you do, Mr..."
"Kasumi."
Recovery Girl went to the left, leaving the three of them alone for a bit.
"Whew... she almost found out."
"About our fighting styles or the fact we use touki?" asked Itsuka.
"Likely both. However, I think some Pro Heroes have been getting suspicious about you. Especially in that period in which they were quiet."
"Oh, no. Oh, no. This isn't good. They're gonna likely separate us for questioning, especially..." Midoriya said in a panicked tone, now onto the muttering stage.
"Midoriya. Calm yourself."
"B-B-but-"
"Midoriya, we need to be level-headed about this," responded Itsuka. "Especially if Aizawa's going to be involved."
"That pasty-headed prick is likely going to put some surveillance later on. It's likely going to be now to a month or two."
"Hmm... you're thinking UA's administration is gonna put in something like that, but it's under the guise of concern for the student body's safety, right?"
"Considering the USJ attack and our fight from a few minutes ago, it would be logical to do so. However, how would it be presented? A dorm system maybe or an upgraded CCTV system?" pondered Izuku, but those two possibilities were very much possible in Kensei's eyes. The former was more likely, plus a bit more receptive in hindsight.
As they were talking, someone on the other side was thinking over a few things...
Audience Sections [1-A]
Todoroki was shocked, to say the least. The way that Kendo and Midoriya fought, it was like looking at a fight between two fighters of old, both proficient enough to fight without their Quirks.
'I can't believe it, I'm going to be forced to use... that. THAT. THAT. That bastard's fire...'
He knew that the finals were next...
The question is not whether he can win or not, but whether he can survive it?
Author's Note: Rami Akarui is more or less based on MMA fighter, Rose Namajunas with her power based on Halo from Young Justice. In addition, it was high-time to place an MMA-inspired OC among the student body. In addition, her name's easy to make: 'Akarui' = luminous while Rami means 'calm one' in Lithuanian.
Sunako Yorucho's name comes from the characters of 'dark side' [but can mean sand child], 'night', 'omen'. If anyone gets the idea she'll be a villain later on... hehe... just wait and see.
Glossary:
Mount Position - A position in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu where you [the user] is on top of the opponent, but it's very common in street fights. All of your body weight is on the opponent's chest/stomach. Joint locks, chokes, and strikes are easy to do from this position. There are some variations of it: wrapping your arm around the back of your enemy's neck to keep them from moving; another variant allows the hands to rest, particularly having the upper body to smother the opponent, making it difficult to breathe.
Raichin - A defensive kata in Gourai-Ryu, based on the real-life Sanchin stance you'd see in various forms of Karate. The stance's primary purpose is to provide rotation. the front and back foot positioning help in that regard to delivering stronger strikes. On top of that, it's powered by touki [fighting spirit]. Despite its awkward look, it's a stable stance that is ideal for defensive postures, grapples and even delivering kicks too. The translation: 'Thunder Battles'.
Aspect Thunder Flame Prison Kick - An axe-kick that is imbued with touki, but emulates that of flame. Once making contact, any limb will be sliced through, and also be burned at the same time too. Its original name is called Sourai Engoku Shu.
Arm Bar from Mount Hold - It comes from the mount position, specifically when the enemy straightens their arms, then take your left arm around the outside of the opponent's right arm and place it on your right hand. This is isolating the arm you are about to perform the arm-bar on. Next, you put all your body weight on it, then lay back, completing the arm-bar.
Arm Ring - The opponent would approach with arms outstretched, mainly as a grab. You have to quickly deflect them upwards and immediately sink into your opponent with twin horizontal hammerfist strikes against the midsection [soft part of the ribs]. As said enemy gasps for air, then you hug his/her legs tightly [leaning down keep in mind] and push against the hip-bone with your shoulder. Then you dump him/her on the ground after swinging his/her legs past yourself. Its original name is Ude Wa. In terms of context, it's a throw from Karate. Shotokan to be specific.
Stay tuned for the next chapter!
