Chapter Thirty-Five:

Kasumi Residence

It was immediately after the Sports Festival that Izuku made the decision to go to his master's house, but there was another reason: he detected something off in All-Might's little speech to him at the awards ceremony. He brought these concerns to Kensei right away and he flinched immediately, saying: "So the Symbol of Peace figured me out?"

"N...N...No, I don't think so. If he did, he would have made a move-"

"No," Kensei said, cutting off Izuku. "That would be too reckless, even for someone like All-Might."

Izuku had to nod in agreement, but responded: "Wait! You don't think..."

"Surveillance? From All-Might? It's a smart move but wouldn't fit his style. Now if we're talking pros like Eraserhead, it would fit their M.O. more."

"Oh... crap. Crap! Crap! Crap! Crap!"

"Oi, calm yourself!"

"My-My-My-per-performance at the Sports Festival is g-g-gonna attract a lot of unwanted attention!"

Kensei thought about it but it sunk in about how POTENTIALLY bad it would get. However, he needed to come up with a plan. Any sort of plan that might divert any sort of suspicious eyes going his way.

"Wait, I think I have a plan. At least a somewhat plausible one."

Izuku was all ears.

"I'd recommend wearing a hoodie, at least one to cover up your hair, and also a medical mask."

"Why a medical mask?"

"Reduces your chances of being recognized. The hoodie helps too."

"Okay, th-that works."

"Did that pasty-skinned teacher ever get a chance to speak to you or Kendo?"

"Actually..."

Earlier...

The awards ceremony was officially finished, a good majority of 1-A was heading back to the locker rooms to change back into their casual clothes, and 1-B did the same. As he was changing, he noticed that Aizawa was waiting for him to finish changing.

"When you're done changing, meet me outside."

Midoriya was starting to panic a bit... okay, a lot.

'Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap!Crap! He's gonna force me to spill everything!'

"Wait. You didn't."

"Trust me, there's more to it!"

UA Stadium Grounds

Kendo and Midoriya were being escorted by Aizawa to a small office within.

"Both of you. Sit."

They quickly complied, not wanting to increase any ire within the underground hero.

"I'll ask a few questions, answer them honestly."

"Umm... like wh-"

"One, what was that? The flaming axe kick, mind explaining that one, Kendo?"

Kendo was sputtering, trying to come up with an answer."Uhh... well, a side effect of training with my grandfather. Yeah... that's it." The orange-haired girl's answer was put together on the spot, enough to satisfy a minimum but not revealing too much.

"Really, Kendo? That's your answer? Because you're definitely leaving something out."

Flinching was the only response.

"However, I'll get it out of you one way or another. Now..." Aizawa said as his eyes shifted towards Midoriya. "Problem Child. Who taught you truly?"

"W-Wh-What do you-"

"All those techniques. Each of them being a potential killing blow, mind explaining why your teacher taught you like that?"

Izuku was panicking a bit more but managed to calm himself by confirming three things within his mind.

1. They did not know the true identity of Shichisei.

2. They have never seen Kensei's face in person.

3. The fighting style's name AKA Hokuto Shinken was never name-dropped.

"He said 'assume every villain is relentless'. I-If villains don't play fair in a fight, why should I?"

"I can see the point of that but here's the thing: There will come a day you'll go too far, you're gonna scare people more than putting them at ease. Does that sound like the type of hero you want to be?"

Izuku actually took a minute to answer.

"N-No, sir," answered the boy, but next he asked: "Wait, what about the USJ-"

"Circumstances that were out of anyone's control, I'm not going to judge you for that. However, that shouldn't be your go-to plan for every confrontation with a villain."

"What happened next?"

Izuku inhaled, then said: "He had a small lecture about how if our skills couldn't do well within the public, we are always welcome to the underground hero scene."

"Wait... are you serious?"

Izuku nodded vigorously. Kensei's face drooped for a bit, wondering if this pasty-skinned teacher was trying to interrogate them or welcome them into some secret club, likely both.

"I swear, your teacher claims to be rational, but there he goes... throwing a curveball."

"Mr. Aizawa likes to do 'logical deceptions'," said Izuku, emphasizing the last part with his fingers.

"...There's a difference between helping your students develop critical thinking and there's being vague. That pasty-skinned prick is being the latter."

"I-I-I mean, h-his 'deceptions' did help everyone perform their best on Day One!"

"Izuku, just because his deceptions worked for one situation doesn't mean it's gonna apply to others. Let's be honest here, would his 'deceptions' work when reviewing for final exams?"

"Uhh... n-no?"

"Exactly, has he ever thought that his 'deceptions' could overcomplicate a training session or, I don't know, leave you up shit-creek without a paddle?"

"Uh... maybe. I mean, it's supposed to prep us-"

"I can only see that type of method working on the third-years because you know, they have experience. They trained in all types of situations, hell, I bet some of them have taken down villains on their own."

Izuku sighed, he knew Kensei wasn't a big fan of Pro Heroes, but he had to disagree. "I think Aizawa is just trying to prepare us to avoid rookie mistakes once we become Pro Heroes."

"Right... I can understand that, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it fully."

"That's alright, Kensei-Sensei. Oh, I have one question though."

"Shoot."

"Do you think my performance at the Sports Festival... will... have the pros keep a closer eye on me?"

"I'll be blunt, yes. In addition, I did have a small 'talk' with Endeavor."

Izuku's face gaped for a bit, "T-T-The Number T-Two?! Wait, what did you say to him?"

"Nothing short of a threat, especially with that burn on his son's eye."

"D-D-Did y-you j-just th-threaten him?! The Number Two?" responded Izuku but he was now in worry mode, wondering if Kensei's little stunt is gonna bring more heat on them.

"Abusive/neglectful parents are at the top of my shit-list, Endeavor just so happened to land at the top of it."

"Oh, crap... that means-that means-"

"Well, let's get to training then."

"But-But-you-just-"

SLAM!

In a surprise, Izuku thrust his fist into the direction of Kensei's punch, but the difference was apparent: Kensei was still strong. It was like hitting a wall made of steel.

.

.

.

AAAAHH!

Izuku clutched his fist in pain but backed away immediately, but took his stance to resume training.

Kensei took his stance, then dashed towards Izuku...

Todoroki Abode

A traditional-styled house that has a garden in the middle. It looks like an imposing house but what's going on the inside is much more interesting...

"Wait, you're saying that brown-haired muscle man is your classmate's martial arts teacher?!" exclaimed a white-haired woman. "...Wow... that would explain how that green-haired kid, Midoriya, was it?"

"Yes, Fuyumi."

"So... he helped you accept that part of you that you despised because of... you know."

Shoto nodded but had a realization: his skills in unarmed combat are a lack for a better word, mediocre. He doesn't know where to start, though. Punches? Kicks? Grapples?

"Where's the old man anyway?"

"Oh... well..." Fuyumi responded, nervously pointing to the direction of Endeavor's room. "He seemed more incensed than usual."

"I can think of two reasons why."

"Wait.. are you-" Fuyumi started but made a connection. "Did Midoriya's teacher say something to dad?!"

Chimera's Den

Mina was doing some shadow-boxing, visualizing the target as members of 1-A and some of 1-B, particularly Kendo.

WHIFF!

WHIFF!

WOOSH!

A bell was heard, it was time for five-minute sparring. She then faced one of the few students that were closer to her age, Camie she thinks? However, she was... unique to say the least.

"Yo, Ashido. Wanna go at 50% this time?"

Camie's mannerisms reminded Ashido of a valley-girl... to a degree.

"Oh, definitely. Just try not to break anything okay?" Mina responded, albeit with a bit of pleading.

"Gotcha fam. Wait, did I legit break something?"

SPAR!

Camie threw a jab first, causing the pink girl to sway to the side, and then... put the clinch into motion.

The other girl was a bit surprised by this turn-around but Mina did not stop. Though it was sparring, she took the initiative to knee her. Repeatedly.

Camie was now feeling it: this girl was improving in her striking. But so did she.

BAM!

A small punch to the ribs made her falter, stopping her barrage of knee strikes. However! She sent another punch into the ribs, making Mina's clinch loosen up further.

As soon as her arms softened up, Camie went for a single leg takedown, slamming her down onto the mat. The valley girl got into the mount position which led to the ground-and-pound.

WHAM!

BAM!

BAM!

Mina's guard went up immediately, but this singular thought was running through her head: 'D-Damn! I knew this girl hits hard, but I didn't think she hit this HARD!'. The pink girl disrupted Camie via collar grab and then smacking her with the other hand. However, she wasn't budging. Mina had to keep at it, but then realized a way to escape the mount position: bridging.

She arched her hips forward, breaking the posture, and grabbing the collar. The other girl was caught off-guard by this as she was rolled onto the ground with Mina being on top.

SLAM!

SLAM!

SLAM!

Camie's guard was slower, letting Mina get in a few strikes on her face, but the latter wasn't going to let up. She knew Camie was planning something for sure but she wasn't going to let-the valley girl disrupted her by encircling her neck with both arms.

"Fu..."

"What was that, fam?" Camie said, tightening the neck, "Can't hear ya."

Mina was mentally kicking herself for falling into such an easy trap, but the gap between Camie and Mina was obvious. She had more experience on her, both as a fighter and hero trainee, the second-year status was moot at this point. However, she wasn't gonna lose that easily. Mina just punched her in the side, the exposed parts at least, that has to at least weaken the grip, right?

Only slightly.

She still kept at it. Camie punished her by tightening the hold more. Mina realized it will be a long night ahead of her.

Hosu General Hospital

Tenya Iida was many things but now? He was wracked with worry, especially after what his mother told him. The boy made it to the hospital's entrance via sprinting from the local train station; he was exhausted at this point but made an extra effort to the main desk.

"Tensei... Iida," Iida said, panting.

"He's on the third floor, specifically 3A," responded the nurse.

"Thank you!" said Iida, bowing right after. As he ran to the elevator, he heard some comments but noticed a few things. Some nurses saying that Ingenium might not make it and others saying that's the fifth victim that the Hero Killer claimed this week.

Room 3A

A grown-man was covered in bandages, not conscious, and attached to him was a heart rate monitor. The two other people were a blue-haired woman and an overweight man in a hero outfit, all waiting to see a change in the man's condition.

"He got the drop on us," piped up the overweight hero. The blue-haired woman perked up, listening to what happened. "Mrs. Iida, if it's too-"

"No, keep going," said Mrs. Iida, though she teared up a bit.

"Bigshot, the name's Bigshot," responded the hero. With a sigh, he continued, "Ingenium and I got reports of the Hero Killer sighted near an alley-way. Truth be told, I had a bad feeling about it. We should have brought more backup, at least a fuckin' squad."

"Tell me what happened next," answered Mrs. Iida, even though the account will sound painful either way.

"Alright..." Bigshot said, exhaling. "We went into the alley-way where the killer was spotted. However, the strangest thing happened: he vanished. POOF!"

Mrs. Iida's face turned into one of confusion, did she hear that right?

"Yea, I had that same look too... it was an ambush, there's no other way to word it," Bigshot explained, disappointment showing near the end. "That... killer just... just appeared from behind us, then WAM!" exclaimed Bigshot, making a semi-loud clap. "He got the both of us."

"Tell me... what did he... exactly do," Mrs. Iida asked, though the answer was gonna hurt.

"It's better to show you..." said Bigshot, revealing a stump where his right hand should be! The blue-haired mother gasped, almost falling to the floor out of shock. However, this led to a horrifying implication.

"Tensei..." Mrs. Iida said with a heavy heart. However, that line of thought was interrupted by a pair of running feet, but her heart crushed further when hearing the yell of "Tensei!"

By the time he barged through the doors, Mrs. Iida tried calming Tenya, but it would be for naught. The boy saw his brother; crippled, mangled, but alive?

"No... no... no."

Tensei's body was convulsing a bit, but he stirred awake, though... he was still weak. "Little brother... is that you?"

Iida quickly paced towards him, starting to tear up a bit, saying "Yes, I came as quickly as I could!"

"I'm sorry... Tenya..."

"No! Don't you-"

"I failed you..."

"No..." Tenya responded, now tearing up even more. "Y-You didn't!" As soon as he said that, he saw Tensei lift up his arm, but he wasn't prepared for it. It was a stump, it is supposed to where part of his forearm should be! The boy stepped back involuntarily, rubbing his eyes wondering if the stress was playing tricks in his eyes... it wasn't. He drooped down on his knees, struggling to say words.

Mrs. Iida held him, trying to console him with Bigshot helping too. The boy gripped tightly into his mother's arms, now weeping into her shoulder, but Mrs. Iida still tried to calm him...

AAAHHHHHH!

Iida was pounding the floor with his fists, screaming at his brother's fate, and his inability to do anything about it...

However... something awakened within Iida. The duty-bound soul was showing signs of cracking...

Author's Notes: The Stain Arc is where things are gonna be a bit different... Bigshot is a character from MHA Vigilantes, so when writing his dialogue, I used the dub voice of Yosuke Tendo from Yakuza 7 for a reference. Without spoiling too much, Tenya's gonna suffer more in the process.

Stain's gonna be a bit more violent, reflecting that this is still a Hokuto no Ken crossover.
