Hello again. I just want to point out that this is just a silly story written by a silly lady who loves silly things and romance. Nothing here is supposed to be realistic. It's only meant to, maybe, stir some butterflies in the stomach of the romantics. All right, let's keep going.
Chapter 5 – Our kind of crazy
The hum of the plane's engines was a constant reminder of how absurd this all was. Kim and Ron sat side by side, their hands intertwined, each occasionally glancing at the other and bursting into nervous laughter. They were on their way to Las Vegas—not to party, not for a vacation, but to elope. The thought sent a mix of adrenaline and giddiness coursing through both of them.
"I still can't believe we're doing this," Kim said, her green eyes sparkling with a mix of excitement and disbelief.
"Me neither, KP," Ron replied, squeezing her hand. "But hey, it's just a piece of paper, right? Totally practical. Logical, even."
Kim chuckled. "Logical? There's not even a tiny bit of logic in this."
"Okay, fine," Ron admitted with a grin. "It's crazy. Completely, off-the-wall bonkers. But it's our kind of crazy."
Kim smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder. "It's perfect."
They spent the rest of the flight talking about their plan, alternating between giddy excitement and playful disbelief. They imagined how their lives would change, how they'd navigate college together—just barely adults, but deeply in love.
When the plane landed, they didn't waste a moment. The vibrant lights of the Las Vegas Strip shimmered in the night, a kaleidoscope of colors reflecting off the taxi windows as they hailed a cab. The city's electric energy seemed to buzz in sync with their own nervous excitement.
"Do you know any good chapels?" Ron asked, his voice a mix of eagerness and uncertainty. The cab driver glanced at them through the rearview mirror, one eyebrow quirking up in amusement.
"First time, huh?" he asked with a knowing grin, his eyes briefly flicking between the young couple.
"Uh, yeah," Ron admitted, scratching the back of his neck. "First time… you know, eloping."
The driver chuckled, shaking his head as he navigated the bustling streets. "Well, you've come to the right city. I'll take you to one of the best."
When they arrived, the sight of the little white chapel was both thrilling and intimidating. Strings of fairy lights twinkled along the edges of the building, casting a romantic glow that softened the chaos of the Strip just outside. Inside, they were greeted by a cozy reception area and a small rental shop, where rows of dresses and suits hung neatly on racks, waiting for impromptu weddings like theirs.
Kim picked out a simple yet elegant white dress, the silky fabric cool against her skin as she slipped into it. Her hands trembled slightly while adjusting the bodice, her reflection in the mirror staring back with wide, uncertain eyes.
"This is insane," she said, looking at her reflection. "I can't believe we're doing this."
"You look beautiful," Ron said softly, standing in the doorway in a classic black suit. His goofy smile melted any doubts Kim had.
"Okay," she said, exhaling deeply. "Let's do this."
"KP, wait. About what I said earlier… this isn't just a piece of paper, is it? Not when I'm talking about, you know... you."
Kim looked at him, her heart pounding so loudly she could almost hear it.
"I know. I'm aware," she said softly.
Ron gently took one of her hands, his grip steady despite the nervous energy between them. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked, his voice laced with both hope and hesitation.
She paused, her gaze dropping for a moment before she met his eyes again. "Ron... when you see your future, am I in it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
His eyes widened as if the question had taken him by surprise, but his answer came instantly. "Of course. No doubt about it."
Her lips curved into a smile, her eyes shining with determination. "I always see you in my future too," she said. "Now, let's take the leap, shall we?"
They had briefly debated going for the full Vegas experience—complete with Elvis impersonators and flashing neon lights—but in the end, they chose something quieter, more traditional. They walked towards the minister. The air was still, carrying a peacefulness that felt almost sacred as Kim and Ron stood together at the modest altar.
The minister, an older man with kind eyes and a gentle demeanor, looked at them with a warm smile. "It's rare to see young couples like you, so sure of yourselves," he said. "Are you ready to take this step?"
Kim and Ron exchanged a glance, their hands tightly clasped. The connection between them spoke volumes—years of friendship, countless missions, and a bond stronger than anything they had ever known. In perfect unison, they replied, "We are."
The ceremony was simple but deeply intimate. The minister's words filled the quiet chapel, and with each sentence, their nerves and doubts seemed to dissolve, replaced by an overwhelming sense of rightness. This was crazy, yes—running off to Vegas on a whim—but somehow, it was also perfect.
When the time came to exchange vows, they turned to face each other fully. The world seemed to fade away as they spoke from their hearts.
"I've always known you were my partner, KP," Ron said, his voice steady but thick with emotion. Tears glistened in his eyes, but his smile never wavered. "And I promise to always be there for you—through the good, the bad, and the totally weird. Because that's what we do, right? We're a team, and we always will be."
Kim's breath hitched as her own tears brimmed, but she met his gaze with unwavering resolve. "Ron, you're my best friend, my partner, my everything," she said, her voice soft but clear. "I promise to always have your back, no matter what. Through every challenge, every moment of chaos, and every victory—we're in this together. Forever."
The minister's voice broke through the moment. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."
Ron didn't hesitate. He stepped forward, cupping her face with both hands as he kissed her—a kiss that was filled with joy, passion, and an unshakable promise of the life they would build together. When they pulled apart, they were both laughing through their tears, their foreheads briefly touching as they soaked in the gravity of what they had just done.
"Well, Mrs. Stoppable," Ron said with a wide, unabashed grin. "Ready to start our crazy adventure?"
Kim laughed, threading her arm through his as they turned to leave the chapel together. "Ready as I'll ever be," she replied, her eyes sparkling with love and excitement.
