Chapter 103: Ryota Kise & Yukio Kasamatsu

Kaijo High School

Kasamatsu sighed, hands shoved into his pants pockets. He couldn't believe Kise managed to talk him into walking around the school festival. The basketball team was doing their own booth to help promote their club and to hopefully draw recruits. As the captain, he understood it was needed. He even encouraged the others to participate since school festivals were fun and it gave them a break from practice.

But he inwardly felt his anxiety reach its boiling point every time he passed a female, whether they were students or visiting for the festival.

And Kise didn't make his situation easier.

Kasamatsu felt sweat bead on his forehead, doing his best to ignore the females that naturally flocked to Kise. Kise, with his model good looks and friendly personality. The blonde positively basked in their attention, talking, laughing, and signing autographs.

Kise was such an attention whore…

"Kasamatsu-senpai," a sweet, familiar voice caught the basketball captain's attention. His steel-blue eyes turned, connecting with amused amethyst orbs. An instant blush heated his cheeks. "What are you doing here? Were you looking for me?"

Kagome Higurashi was the Kaijo basketball team's manager. It had been the coach's idea since their team was so large and there were a lot of things that needed to be done, like forms that needed to be completed and submitted, uniforms needed to be ordered, and practice matches had to be scheduled. That was only the tip of the list of what Kagome handled daily, and Kasamatsu was grateful for everything she did.

But what had the coach been thinking to recruit a girl, he often wondered. Everyone – and he meant everyone – knew how Kasamatsu got when placed in front of a girl. He couldn't control his stuttering. His cheeks would flame out of sheer embarrassment. He got tongue-tied in the worst ways. He just couldn't function like a normal human being. It was utterly humiliating.

Since becoming the manager, his immunity towards Kagome had grown. At minimum, he could hold a halfway decent conversation with her. He could at least get across what needed to be done before turning into a bumbling mess again. But when she caught him off guard like this…

Kasamatsu could practically feel the blush darken on his face, sweat pouring out of nervousness. "H-Higurashi," he greeted, nodding jerkily. "Everything is-is fine. What-What are you doing here?"

Kagome lightly chuckled. "Since we had more than enough people helping out at the basketball team's booth, I figured it would be a good idea to participate with my classroom's café," she answered.

"Café?"

She gestured down, indicating her outfit. Kasamatsu looked without thinking, and he swore he nearly passed out. She wore the stereotypical maid uniform, including the frilly apron, lace, and knee-high stockings. Her skirt was dangerously short, in his opinion, and should've been illegal. But what caught his attention the most were the kitty ears placed upon her head. He'd never seen Kagome dressed in such a fashion, yet it suited her so well. His fingers twitched, tempted to touch the soft-looking ears.

"Isn't this outfit so cute, senpai?" she asked. "I really love these kitty ears! They're so well-made and comfortable. I barely feel it even though I've been wearing them for over an hour now."

Before Kasamatsu could respond, Kise cut into their conversation. The perky blonde nearly tackled Kagome from his enthusiasm, his arms wrapping around the raven-haired beauty to cuddle her close to his frame.

"Wow, Kagome-cchi," Kise exclaimed, grinning widely. "You look so cute as a maid! And those kitty ears – they suit you perfectly."

Kagome easily pushed him away, causing a pout from the basketball player. "Thanks, Kise," she said. "So, are you two wandering around?"

"Yeah," Kise answered. "What about you, Kagome-cchi?"

"I'm on a short break. I should start heading back to my classroom." She winked at the two males. "You guys should stop by. Okay?"

Kise excitedly agreed, "Count on it! We'll definitely be there."

Kasamatsu could no longer maintain eye contact, but he nodded in acceptance. He mentally mourned the fact that his face would be permanently tomato-red.

But Kagome… dressed as a maid… and those kitty ears…

When Kagome was no longer in sight, the blonde basketball player turned to look at his captain. The smile on his face was wide, and Kasamatsu wondered if he would like whatever came out of his mouth.

"We're so lucky to have such a cute manager, right, Kasamatsu-senpai? And now that we know she doesn't mind cosplay, we could–"

"Shut up, Kise!" Kasamatsu kicked the other male without mercy. His face, however, was flaming at the mere thought of Kagome clothed in various forms of cosplay. His imagination couldn't help running wild.

He blamed those damn kitty ears…
