It took a while, but I found a potato. Which led to more potatoes. Which led to more, until finally, I had gained enough potatoes to make me and each of the others potato soup. I've always loved potatoes, they can be made into various dishes and even taste good raw. Or, at least, I think they do.
I grabbed some wood and made crude bowls. They weren't as nice as I was hoping for, but they were functional.
On my way back, I crafted the potato soup. For some reason, I didn't need to cook it, so it was already made by the time I got back. The others would most likely be getting back soon, so I quickly got back to where Lukas should currently be so I could have just a few more moments with a human being without a bunch of drama going on.
It took a long time, but I made it back to Lukas. I had underestimated how far I had gone. Of course, our time alone had to be cut short, seeing as it was turning night and obviously Jesse would be back tomorrow.
I walked up through the corridors of the temple and back to the guard tower, catching a glimpse of a certain blonde. Suddenly, a terrible idea came to mind. A terrible, awful, glorious idea.
"HEY LUKAS!" I shouted. He stumbled and dropped a stack of books in surprise, including a certain journal.
"Oh, hey Zenna! Sorry, you.. uh, startled me," He mumbled sheepishly.
Unfortunately, his reaction only made me feel bad. I crouched down and began helping him collect his books.
"Oh, sorry! I, um… I found some mushrooms and made us some stew!" I apologized, immediately changing the subject.
"Cool! Thanks," He said, smiling.
"It's no problem," I replied, handing him his books with a small smile.
I handed Lukas a bowl of mushroom stew and we happily sat beside each other and ate. We spent a few moments there, it was both peaceful and super uncomfortable. Every now and again, our eyes would meet. Once again, it was both peaceful and uncomfortable. I stared into his eyes and he stared into mine.
Then, Olivia appeared with Ellegaard. Great.
Lukas immediately ran down to greet them while I sat there long forgotten.
Well, It's morning. Olivia and Ellegaard ruined the rest of the night for me by purely being there, but it was nice to know they weren't dead.
I spent most of the day over at the bookshelf so I could read while waiting for Jesse. I searched through the many books, avoiding the ones by Soren that happen to magically appear literally everywhere. There's one book about a kid who fell through a hole into a population of anthropomorphic animals and living skeletons. They then must decide between attempting to befriend them, or slaughter them to extinction. I was somewhat interested in it, but I kept looking. Another book was about a girl in a similar situation as mine. She got transported into a video game she played that just happened to be the same one I played. Obviously, she isn't me. She has a different name, an entirely different color scheme, and the disembodied voice that follows her has far less mood swings than mine. No, my creator obviously just used the author's ideas as a template. Good ol' plagiarism.
Then, there was a book that told of beings known as 'admins.' It was quite interesting, so I decided to keep it in my inventory for later along with the book that reminded me of myself. And that's when Jesse decided to disturb the peace. Lukas rushed over to his guard tower and shot a creeper that was stalking toward Jesse, Axel, Gabriel and Petra.
"Who goes there?" Lukas shouted. "Jesse? Is that you?"
I could hear the mumble of Jesse asking a question, but not what it was.
"Well, yeah. I figured I would try and fortify the place, y'know?" Lukas replied. "I'm so glad you're back!"
I heard more mumbles. It was like listening to one side of a conversation via phone.
"Fantastic!"
Lukas then proceeded to do a little dance like the dork he is and rushed downstairs to let them in.
I saw Jesse come into the room with Magnus, Axel, and Lukas.
'Where have Petra and Gabriel gone?'
My thoughts were soon cut off.
"Oh, Zenna, you're here!" Jesse said surprised.
'Oh wow, Lukas didn't even mention me being alive. That's so very pleasant of him.'
"Yeah, I am." I replied.
We stood awkwardly for a while, then Ellegaard noticed Magnus and started bickering with him like they're a married couple. After about five seconds of bickering, I pulled out one of the books from before so I could try to block out their arguing with some reading. The book talked about there being multiple admins.
"There are admins of every color, shade, and age. When an admin falls, a new champion rises to take their color. For instance, Purple.."
It seemed to continue forever, and I'm honestly glad about that. I'm probably going to need this information in the future, and I'm going to have a ton of free time anyway. I only got to read about the main three admins before I realized that Jesse had already made the plan for going to Soren's place and everyone was already asleep except me.
I sighed and climbed into my bed, pulling my blanket onto me. I finally closed my eyes and succumbed to the sleep pulling at my consciousness.
I woke up in the morning feeling like absolute garbage. Being sick sucks.
'My arm hurts...'
I forced myself out of my bed and up onto my feet. Since everyone else didn't know how to wake up early, I watched the sunrise while they slept in. Only after the sun was high in the sky did they actually get up, then we set out.
Then, of course, the witherstorm decided to catch up with us and indirectly spawn in a bunch of monsters. Only then did I realize that Petra and Gabriel were there all of the sudden. Where had they been this entire time? I suppose this shows they have close to no significance during this episode if you take away their wither sickness. Oh, did I mention that helping save them somehow prevented them from getting radiation poisoning from the witherstorm for some reason? Yep, that's a thing that happened apparently.
Once we got to Soren's weird place he used to live in, I got so bored I almost didn't listen to the others talk. But I did, so don't you dare say I don't pay enough attention.
"Soren really lived down here? So far from… anyone," Lukas stated.
"Enchanting, isn't it?" Ellegaard responded.
Then there was just awkward silence for a while because no one was coughing. Well, no one except me. I always end up inhaling something and having a coughing fit during the worst ever time to do so.
So, of course, I ended up practically coughing out my lungs and most likely worrying everyone over nothing.
I stared ahead and watched as one by one, everyone jumped onto the column. I suddenly then realized that I probably couldn't land on any of the columns for the life of me. They just seemed tedious and I was currently sick with something that makes you super weak. Nevertheless, I took a running start and attempted to hurl myself onto the column. I missed it.
The falling part was nice. It could even possibly be described as fun. The wind rushing up at me and the weightlessness sensation. It felt like flying, in a sense. The part where I hit the ground was when everything really sunk in. When I say 'everything,' I mean the fall damage. What did I learn from science class? Oh yeah, "It's not the ground that kills you, it's the force that you hit the ground with."
"Ahhh!"
'Of course he fell. He always falls, why did I think this would be any different?'
"...I heard your voice and decided I would come down to help," Lukas lied.
'I didn't even say anything, and it's not like he could hear me from all the way up there without it being distorted.'
I shook my head with a smile and looked over at the endermen.
"Endermen." He mumbled.
I nodded, and we continued to stare at the creatures. Then, of course, the endermen got peeved at us. I quickly grabbed Lukas' arm and threw him into the water, jumping in afterwards.
'Okay, maybe that was a bit much.'
We were forced down the waterfall by its current. Then, we swam over to the others. How neither Jesse nor Reuben fell is beyond me, but now is not the time to sit and ponder. Magnus and Ellegaard had their little fight thing and left. I blocked out their quarrel by staring at the statues because I didn't feel like being frustrated at people who are going to forget about us after we defeat their main issue. Out of the two, Jesse decided to go look for Magnus.
Since neither Petra nor Gabriel were sick, they didn't follow, and Jesse went alone. Of course, when Jesse was gone for a while I knew he had gotten attacked by the creeper and he was most likely on his way to get pummeled by Ivor.
I went to look for him and jumped down. Ivor was surprised that I was somehow alive, but he obviously didn't care. Jesse decided to pick a fight with Ivor, so I kinda just attempted to help fight with my ax.
Oh yeah, by the way, Whisper just told me that someone gifted me an axe and it kind of just materialized in my hands. That's how I got it. It was absolutely awesome, and also kind of creepy.
I was fine, since Ivor mostly just targeted Jesse. I'm really no threat to him, so what's the point of attacking me? When he threw the potion, I gently batted it off to the side. Eventually, the others came on over and kind of just stood there and did nothing. Then, Ivor splashed us with slowness.
After the slowness potion wore off, I mostly just stood there for a bit while Jesse, Gabriel, and Petra talked about the Amulet. Then, Axel started using his ideas.
"Hey guys, I have an idea!" Axel said, smiling.
"Okay," Jesse replied curiously.
Axel took a deep breath, then shouted towards the bookcase.
"Magnus help!"
That, of course, amounted to nothing.
"Well, alright.. but I have another idea!"
"Is it calling for Ellegaard?" Asked Olivia sarcastically.
"Not.. anymore.."
Lukas then started moping.
"Look, they aren't coming back," He sighed. "We have no idea where they are."
"They couldn't abandon us if they wanted to," Jesse stated. "As long as we have… this!"
He pulled out a flint and steel.
"Flint and steel? I don't get it," Olivia said.
"I-it's not… that's not what I meant to pull out. Hold on, uh..."
He finally pulls out the Amulet.
"This!"
Jesse then started being dramatic with his Amulet, causing Lukas and Jesse to play a good old game of tug of war. I'll be honest, it was not one of their finest moments. Eventually, the Amulet glowed and everyone started getting super excited. Jesse found where the Amulet glows best and everyone except me started punching holes in the floor. Once the hole was deep enough, Jesse jumped down.
"Looks pretty good. Uhh.. it's pretty dark, but other than that we're okay." Jesse reported to us.
Just as Olivia started climbing down, Jesse yelled, "Wait!"
"You have to say that now?!" She grumbled.
"Somethings not right..." He then suddenly screeched, "Bats!"
Everyone started screaming for some reason.
"Allright, it's safe now."
That almost had me laughing, but I didn't want to make this even more awkward for him. We then all finally jumped down, me going last and falling flat on my face. Lukas noticed my fall and grasped my hand, pulling me back onto my feet.
"Thanks," I said.
"What's that smell?" Olivia asked.
Petra simply states, "Just breathe through your mouth."
"Axel already does that," Lukas joked.
"Hey!" Exclaimed Axel.
Jesse rolled his eyes and turned away.
"Let's get out of here," He said.
The others stared out of the pipe.
"We have to get out of here!" Olivia yelled.
"What?" Lukas shouted back.
"We have to get out of here!" Olivia repeated, louder than before.
Axel yelled out in confusion, "We just got here!"
"You don't understand, this is a grinder! They're meant to kill monsters, the only problem is they can't tell the difference between monsters and people!"
"This can't be good," mumbled Jesse.
Then, we got ambushed by creepers. We fought the creepers, but one exploded, causing Jesse to drop the Amulet. He then jumped down to attempt to get it. We all followed and helped fight the mobs while he focused on grabbing the Amulet.
Jesse helped Reuben and Axel while Lukas grabbed the Amulet. Then Jesse, Lukas, Axel and Reuben fell. In last minute desperation, Jesse sent a creeper into the mob grinder, blowing it up.
Me and Olivia looked at each other wondering why that all just happened in front of us, then jumped down to join them.
We fell into the water below. After being thrown down out of the pipes, everything hurt.
'Why must everything be so painful?!'
I pulled Lukas out of the way so he wouldn't get suffocated to death by Axel, then I pulled out my bow and waited.
"I knew you'd come for us, I just knew it," Axel started, looking at Jesse. "Reuben had his doubts."
Reuben looked down shamefully.
"I owe you. If there ever comes a time when I can pay you back for that.."
Jesse quickly cut him off, "I'm just glad you're okay. Both of you."
"Thanks, Jesse..."
Axel paused.
"There's something different about you Jesse, you're- Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on! This is where all the loot gets sorted, right?"
"That's exactly what it is." Said Olivia.
"See that? Things are starting to turn around!"
Axel shoved Jesse out of the way and ran off to pillage Soren's loot.
Jesse and Petra began to talk like they usually do during this part of the story, minus the wither sickness parts. Meanwhile, Lukas held the Amulet, excited to finally be doing something cool without someone overshadowing him.
"Looks like it's still working!" He exclaimed. "I'll just be really careful with it."
"Hey, thanks for grabbing that up there," Jesse said quietly. "Can I have it back?"
"Not a problem," Replied Lukas.
Before Jesse could take the Amulet from him, the white light on it started glowing.
"Wait a minute, he's close.. Soren's close by!" Lukas yelped. "He's gotta be.. this way! Look how bright it is!"
Suddenly, the white light on the Amulet flickered out. Then the mob grinder decided to spit out monsters. Pulling back my bow, I started shooting the second they landed, not giving them the chance to get up.
We ran over to the portal and jumped through, entering the End. For a place run by hostile creatures, it was beautiful. Lukas started panicking due to the endermen and began lashing out. After Lukas had his little fear speech, Jesse told him everyone was fine.
'Hah, liar.'
-Yup, you somehow ended up messing up the entire timeline, making only you get sick. Sick with a deadly disease, that is somehow barely effecting you, to be specific.-
"Face it Jesse, we might never find this guy."
"There he is," Axel said, pointing at Soren climbing the stairs to his little hideout.
I snickered and patted Lukas' back in pity.
"...Did that just happen? I can't believe that just happened." He mumbled.
"That's where we're headed." Stated Jesse.
After several people volunteered to guide us through the haunting of endermen, Lukas ended up winning the argument and guided us over to the staircase. Several flights of stairs later, we finally got to Soren's weird wool world. Then, of course, Lukas walked off moodily. Me being me, I immediately walked over to Lukas. I knew how to solve the puzzle in this room, but I honestly didn't want to. Jesse could do that if that was what his heart desired.
"Hey, Lukas." I greeted, standing beside him.
He avoided my gaze and said nothing. For a while, we just stood there awkwardly. Then he finally spoke up.
"Be honest, are you okay?" He asked me.
"I'm fine, why?" I replied.
"Zenna, I saw your arm, and you've been acting differently lately."
I looked Lukas straight in the eyes.
"Well?" He said, obviously waiting for me to say something.
"..I have wither sickness." I say simply.
He looked confused at first, but finally it seemed to click in his mind.
"So the wither storm.. got you sick?"
'Oh.'
-Hah!-
"Well, when you put it like that, I sound like a wimp." I mumbled, slightly chuckling to myself.
He stared at me with pity in his eyes, which made me feel bad for him, which made me feel worse because I deliberately don't like people feeling bad for me and he could possibly feel the same way. So, I pulled him into a side hug and rubbed his back despite it being very awkward and weird. After a couple seconds, I let go and smiled at him. The hug seemed to make him feel a bit better, oddly enough.
For the rest of the time Jesse spent solving the puzzle, I simply stood by Lukas.
Mmm, rewrite. I plan on working on the crossover a bit more today, but don't get your hopes up.
