In one of the classrooms, Davina was teaching a class, under the supervision of an assessor. She probably wouldn't have been so nervous, had she not been teaching Earl Kelly.
So far, however, the lesson was going well. The class were hanging onto her every word and were interacting when necessary. Including Earl.
As the class were working quietly, Sambucca Kelly burst into the classroom, her eyes searching for Earl.
"They're saying our Marley's doing drugs and Mum's crying!" she cried, staring at Earl in panic
"Excuse me, you can't just barge in here!" Davina scolded
Sam ignored her, her eyes remaining fixed on Earl, pleading with him to help.
"Marley's walked, Earl" she told him
Earl stood up furiously, walking over to his sister. He couldn't believe this. First, they accused him of killing birds, now they were accusing Marley of doing drugs! It was outrageous!
"Our Marley's never done drugs!" he huffed
"Earl, sit down" Davina instructed calmly
"No, we want something done!" Sam demanded
"Yeah, and if Marley is walking, then Lawson should too!" Earl agreed
He reached into his pocket, unfolding the piece of paper with a picture of a younger Mr Lawson on it that Michaela had given him at lunchtime. He showed it to Davina. She looked at it briefly before scowling at Earl.
"I said, sit down" she ordered
"No! We want something done, now!" Earl demanded
"Earl, sit down!" she repeated
Earl grinned
"Make me" he growled
"Karla? Could you go and get Miss Mason, please?" Davina requested, trying to keep her voice calm
Karla nodded, dashing out of the room.
...
Rachel returned to her office, silently groaning when she saw Ralph and Eddie sat in there waiting for her. She'd wanted a few minutes alone to catch her breath.
"Well?" Ralph asked, standing up
"I spoke to Rose, and Marley. Marley has walked. Rose was really upset, she was ready to throw in the towel" she explained with a heavy sigh
"Did she?" Ralph asked smugly
Rachel glared at him
"No, she didn't" she answered
"Good for her. Well done for talking her down" Eddie praised
Rachel refused to look him in the eye. She was frustrated with him. He hadn't backed her up earlier, and now he was trying to get back on her good side again.
"She seems to think there's some sort of 'anti-Kelly vendetta'" she explained
Before anyone could respond, Flick stepped into the office, looking both nervous and furious at the same time. She looked at her Father.
"Dad, I need to talk to you" she announced
"Felicity, I'm busy. Can't it..."
"No, actually, it can't" she interrupted, storming out of the office
Ralph excused himself, following his daughter into the corridor, closing the door behind him. Rachel sighed in relief.
Seconds later, the door burst open again. This time, it was Karla.
"Miss! Miss Shackleton is really, really scared, and she's doing this," Karla explained, imitating Davina heavy breathing
Rachel sighed, following Karla out of the room. Eddie followed behind them.
...
In the corridor...
"Hey, do you mind telling me what all that was about?" Ralph demanded angrily
Flick stopped walking, turning to face him.
"You swapped them, didn't you? Marley's test and Mine?" she accused
Ralph grabbed her by the arm, pushing her into an empty classroom.
"That is rubbish! Why are you accusing me of that?" he spat
"Because I should have tested positive and didn't! How could you, Dad? You're disgusting!"
Ralph sighed
"I'm going to tell Miss Mason that I want to take another test. That will prove Marley is innocent" she told him, moving to walk passed him
"Marley Kelly is nothing!" he growled angrily
"He's 50 times more decent than you'll ever be! He took the blame because he loves me!" Flick snapped
Ralph scoffed
"Oh yeah, he loves you so much that he's got you hooked on drugs?! You have REALLY let me down, Felicity!" Ralph snapped
"There's a surprise!" Flick shot back, rolling her eyes
"I can't believe that you would take drugs! My own daughter!"
Flick stared at the floor, unsure of what to say.
"Well, that's the last you'll see of that Kelly boy, because you are grounded!" Ralph added
Flick glared at him
"Under house arrest? Is that for my own good, or so I don't embarrass you?" she challenged
"This has nothing to do with me! You're the one who took drugs!" Ralph argued
Flick sighed heavily
"I know I'm a disappointment. I'm not proud of what I've done. But, maybe I took those drugs, because I'm sick of YOU telling me how to live MY LIFE!" she screamed
"Felicity, you can't take a new test! What if I lose my job?" Ralph insisted
"You'd better find a way out of this, or you are going to lose your job! I mean it!" she threatened
"There's nothing I can do!" Ralph scoffed
"You can tell Miss Mason you made a mistake. And, for the record, I don't want you running my life anymore" she huffed, storming away
...
In Davina's classroom, all the kids were yelling and dashing around manically. Davina had lost control of them completely, and it was all because of Earl. No matter what she tried, she couldn't rein them in. She was going to fail this assessment, there was no doubt about it.
"QUIET!" she shouted
Rachel, Eddie and Karla finally walked in. Rachel smiled at Davina reassuringly, before addressing the class.
"Right, come on, quiet now!" she instructed
The class settled down almost immediately, returning to their seats. All except for Earl.
"Yay! The cavalry arrives!" he exclaimed sarcastically
Rachel and Eddie glared at him
"Our Marley is not a druggie, and anybody who says any different is lying!" he growled
Rachel spotted Sam at the back of the classroom.
"What are you doing in here?"
"Oh, shove off!" Sam snapped, smirking triumphantly as the class burst into fits of laughter
"They're a bunch of hypocrites!" Earl said, glaring at Rachel and Eddie
Rachel sighed.
"What do we want? Legalised drugs! When do we want it? Now!" Earl chanted
Earl unfolded the piece of paper again, showing Rachel and Eddie
Rachel stared at the photo, in shock. She looked to Eddie, whose face was plastered with dread. It seemed she wasn't the only one with a past.
"Remember now, Eddie?" Earl taunted
Eddie's eyes were glued to the photo. Somehow, he managed to swallow the lump in his throat. Where had Earl got that photo from?
The only person's reaction he cared about was Rachel's. He could tell by the look on her face that she was furious and was jumping to conclusions. They were going to have an argument about this later, he knew it. He wanted a chance to explain, but now wasn't the time.
Rachel had, had enough of Earl's behaviour. This was the final straw. She grabbed him roughly by the arm.
"Right you, get in the cooler now!" she demanded
She looked at Sam
"And you! Move it! Come on, MOVE!" she instructed
Sam smirked, following Earl out of the room. Rachel followed them, glaring at Eddie on her way out.
Whilst the class were chatting amongst themselves, Davina approached Eddie.
"I think you need to speak to Michaela. I saw her handing those pieces of paper out at lunch. I didn't know it was anything to do with you" she explained
Eddie nodded, returning to his own classroom
...
After thirty minutes, Eddie finally tracked down Michaela.
He escorted her into his classroom. The smug smile on her face told Eddie that she knew exactly what this was about.
"We were only having a laugh, sir! I mean, it's not like you're a junkie or anything" she shrugged, handing him the remaining copies of the photos
Eddie rolled his eyes, taking them off her. He took a brief look, immediately being transported to the past, a past he wanted to forget. He scrunched the paper into a ball in his fist.
"How did you get hold of this?" he asked
"Philip sent me a link" Michaela shrugged
Eddie sighed. Of course it was Philip behind all of this. He should have known. After all the progress he and Rachel had been making with him, he'd done this. Why?
He glanced at Michaela.
"You can go" he grumbled
Michaelasmirked, walking away
