This should realistically be one of the last boring chapters for a good while. We're now officially in the summer holidays and I have so much planned for this. We're getting very close to where I was before I started this rewrite which took a long time, but I'm much happier with this quality and the direction it takes. There is a lot more characterization, interactions, better grammar and spelling and just shows that there is more quality of the work.
Chapter 34: End of First Year
The rest of the term passed rather uneventfully, and soon it was the start of final exams. The fifth and seventh years were already stressed out, and trying to cram in a couple more study sessions before they took their OWLs and NEWTs. Harrison noticed the change in the atmosphere as the fifth years and seventh years were more agitated, and were seen more in the common room and library with several textbooks in front of them, and yelling at the poor soul who simply breathed the wrong way.
When their final exams approached, there were several students seen going to the Hospital Wing for a calming potion that Madam Pomfrey provided. It got worse as the weeks passed by, as more and more students were getting more calming potions in order to stop them from having an emotional breakdown from the constant stress and pressure they were under to perform well.
They got through the sweltering heat, and in the classroom as well. They did written papers, written in quills that were charmed with an AntiCheating spell. Practical exams weren't so bad, and were frankly easy. Professor Flitwick called them one by one into his class to see if they could make a pineapple tapdance across a desk. Professor McGonagall watched them turn a mouse into a snuffbox- points were given for how pretty the snuffbox was, but taken away if it had whiskers. Snape made the first years nervous, breathing down their necks as they tried to remember how to make a Forgetfulness potion.
Their very last exam was History of Magic. One hour of answering questions about batty old wizards who'd invented self stirring cauldrons and they'd be free, free for a whole wonderful week until their exam results came out. When the ghost of Professor Binns told them to put down their quills and roll up their parchment, Harrison had to share a small smile as his classmates shared gleeful expressions with each other.
"I'm so glad that's finally done," Draco told him as they exited out of the History of Magic classroom. "I don't think I want to look at another textbook for the next several months."
"I'm just glad this year is over," he told him.
"Agreed… It's been hectic, hasn't it?" Draco agreed, before he switched the topic. "Say…. Who are you staying with this summer?"
"I don't know," he admitted quietly.
It was something he was meaning to do, but it just didn't seem like good timing. He knew Sirius wouldn't mind having him, as he was always welcome there and so did the Malfoys, now that Ella was there- he knew he would probably be spending an unprecedented time over there. He also didn't want anyone asking questions on why he was gone for a long time as he searched for the Dark Lord. He knew it wouldn't be hard in finding the Dark Lord, but it was the matter of getting there and finding him.
"Would you like to stay with us?" Draco asked. "I know you'd probably stay with us or Black, but you haven't talked about it."
Harrison thought about it for at least a couple of minutes before he finally answered,
"I don't see why not… Although, I do have several things that I have planned so don't be surprised if you don't see me for some time."
"Doing what?" Draco asked, his brow knitted together.
"Don't worry about it," He told him, brushing off his question.
They walked in silence, down a couple of flights of stairs and headed outside down to the Great Lake. It was a nice day outside and it seemed that most of his fellow housemates decided to go spend the day outside, lounging around the Great Lake, as some sort of a get-together before the end of the year was upon them. Harrison would have spent his time doing something else, probably conversing with Amara, and feeding her some rats or something, rather than hang around with his housemates, but Draco begged him and wouldn't take no for an answer.
So, Harrison sat down against the tree, feeling the rough bark against his black robes. The slight breeze in the air made the levees rustle and shake, and made the heat that they had for the past week or two slightly more tolerable. Before final exams even started, the heat was getting noticeable in many of the classes and became a little less tolerable on some days. Pansy immediately latched onto Draco as soon as he arrived and sat down on the grass with Crabbe and Goyle present and doing whatever they were doing.
It was just a small get-together where they were simply hanging around and not doing anything. They ate the sweets that Pansy managed to provide through means that Harrison didn't want to know. He wasn't going to ask questions as he took the sweets offered.
"What are your plans for summer, Drakey," Pansy said.
"Don't call Drakey, Pansy," Draco snapped. "For your information, I'll be hanging out with my cousin. Mother and Father ultimately decided against going to another country this summer due to my cousin."
"Blaise, what about you?" Draco asked.
"Going to Italy… Mum's new husband decided to go take us to his villa there, as it's right by the beach. We'll be there for the entirety of the summer," Blaise told them.
Harrison tuned out the conversation as it was getting to the point where it was very uninteresting. Instead, he watched the lake. In the far distance, he spotted the squid making an appearance, and would gently make more waves as its arms hit the water. It also created more ripple effects in the water. He also noticed the occasional bird that would dive into the water and pull out a fish in its beak. He also heard the rush of the wave before it crashed against the shoreline.
"What about you, Harrison?" Pansy asked, returning her attention to him.
Harrison looked away from the lake and noticed that everyone was staring at him, and he knew that they must have asked him something.
"I just have a few things I need to get done," he told them.
"Probably diving into a book?" Pansy teased. "It's like you always have your head in a book, or disappear somewhere else."
"No… I have other more important manners to do than that," Harrison told them, ignoring Pansy's remark.
It seemed that whatever he said, made his housemates quiet and returned to the attention of the Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, and ate some of them. He wasn't a huge fan of the beans, mainly because of the flavor. He didn't say anything as he picked the sweets that were also there, and looked at Crabbe and Goyle who ran up the hill to terrorize some of the Hufflepuff first years, after Draco told them too.
He paid no attention to the antics of his classmates and started thinking about what this summer would look like, mainly on the manner of bringing back the Dark Lord and how long that can take. There was also the matter of where the Dark Lord went too, also.
He noticed the owl that was flying right towards him and straightened it up as it landed right in front of him, with a letter attached to its leg. Pansy tried to get the letter untied from its leg, but it merely pecked at her when she tried to do it.
"Ow! It bit me," Pansy cried out. She held out her finger that had small droplets of blood on it and sucked it off. "You get the owl away, Harrison."
Harrison paid no means to her cry as he untied the letter from the owl's leg, and grabbed it. The owl flew off as soon as the letter was unclasped from its leg, apparently, expecting no reply to the sender. Harrison unsealed the envelope and saw that Sirius wrote to him. He ignored the curious looks from his classmates as he read the letter:
Harrison,
I haven't forgotten about what we were doing during the holidays. I have found the recipe for the elixir of life in one of the many potion's books in the Black library. I have attached a copy on the second page, in case we don't see each other for a good bit during the course of the summer holidays.
Sirius
Harrison took a quick look at the second page and saw that Sirius wrote down the elixir of life potion, and the steps. He folded both of the letters up and slipped them in his pocket. At least that was one thing out of the way, and finding the Dark Lord was now another matter on its own.
…
The end-of-year feast fast approached by the time the exams were all done. The Great Hall was decked in the Slytherin colors of green and silver. A huge banner showing the Slytherin Serpent covered the wall behind the High Table. This marked the fact that Slytherin just won the house cup again, and held it for seven years straight. Despite the fact that his house won, the Great Hall was filled with lots of energy as people chatted over one another and couldn't contain their enthusiasm about summer.
Harrison squeezed into a spot right next to Draco and Blaise who was quietly talking about whether or not, Mrs. Zabini was going to kill her third husband this summer. Apparently, each new husband that Mrs. Zabini married always died under suspicious circumstances, and the Zabini family was left with more money afterwards.
"I won't be surprised if she does it," Blaise commented quietly. "She already had two husbands."
"I wouldn't be either, but if only two husbands have died, that's a coincidence. If the third one died, then that's a pattern," Draco responded. "What do you think, Harrison?"
"He's right," Harrison answered in a rather bored tone.
Dumbledore arrived a couple of minutes later and a babble died down, leaving silence in its wake. He stood behind the table and in front of his chair, and started a speech before the feast would even start.
"Another year gone!" Dumbledore said cheerfully. "And I must trouble you with an old man's wheezing waffle before we sink our teeth into our delicious feast. What a year it has been! Hopefully your heads are all a little fuller than they were…you have the whole summer ahead to get them nice and empty before next year starts.…
"Now, as I understand it, the house cup here needs awarding, and the points stand thus: In fourth place, Gryffindor, with three hundred and twelve points; in third, Hufflepuff, with three hundred and fifty-two; Ravenclaw has four hundred and twenty-six and Slytherin, four hundred and seventy-two."
A storm of cheering and stamping broke out from the Slytherin table. Draco banged his empty goblet on the table, which thudded loudly on the table. Harrison paid no attention as the goblet's sound was mainly hidden by the cheers and shouts that came from their table. The other houses merely clapped in response and had solemn faces all across. He caught Saeviour's eye, and noticed the glare that Saeviour and his bloodtraitor friend sent him, and he only smirked in response.
After Dumbledore's speech, the food appeared in front of them. Harrison grabbed whatever looked interesting and poured a little bit on his plate, and ate quietly.
"Potter wasn't happy as soon as Dumbledore announced the house cup winner," Theo mentioned from across the table, looking up at the staff table where Professor Potter had a dark look on his face.
"Neither of them were," Draco added. "He must be so disappointed as he couldn't possibly stop us from winning, no matter how many times he tried deducting us points."
"And Snape gave them back during his lessons, remember?" Theo pointed. "He also gave us more, if I recall right."
"True," Draco commented. "I'm just glad that he isn't coming back next year."
Lord Potter had told them that he wasn't coming back in the upcoming school year, a week before final exams started. He told them that during the start of class, and mentioned that, 'he wanted to take a step back and reevaluate what he wanted to do in life.' It sounded like a load of hogwash to him, as he knew, the man wasn't cut out for teaching. He was most likely asked by Dumbledore to fill in when Quirrell disappeared after winter break, and accepted the position without any questioning.
"I think after his precious son got hurt, that's when he realized what his position meant," Blaise commented. "Honestly, that was the most entertaining aspect we've had, practically all year."
"I never thought I'd see him be upset with the headmaster, and here I thought he sucked up to him," Harrison pointed out, joining in the conversation.
The scathing headline on the Daily Prophet meant that Headmaster Dumbledore failed at keeping children safe. He did a little bit of damage control, and from the rumors that came from the lion's house- there was quite a bit of hush money offered, and Dumbledore promised to look out for the hero, to make sure nothing like that would ever happen again. Harrison knew that was a lie since the philosopher's stone was a trap designed for Saeviour, but anything to get into Lord Potter's good graces again. He wasn't sure if the rumors were true, but perhaps it was, since Lord Potter forgave Dumbledore a week after the incident.
"Who knew he had quite a temper on him?" Draco sighed. "I would pay to see that again."
They all nodded and returned their attention back to eating their dinner, and dessert followed after. Soon after that, they headed down into the dungeons and into the common room, to celebrate having won the house cup again.
All the Slytherins joined in the common room, partying. Somehow, a couple of older Slytherins managed to sneak several things of fire-whiskey, other alcoholic drinks and sweets from both Hogsmeade and from the kitchens (just the sweets from the Kitchen). It was loud, and chaotic, but everyone was just happy all around. Harrison mingled, taking a couple of sweets like chocolate frogs and pumpkin pastries occasionally, as he played a couple of games of exploding snap, and wizards chess. Even Professor Snape came to the common room and told them congratulations on all their hard work and wished the seventh years best of luck for their future.
Eventually, the party started to die down. People started to go back to their dormitory for the night, with some of them cleaning up the mess that they've created using magic. Harrison headed up to his dormitory room where Blaise was already sound asleep as his curtains were pulled back with Draco getting ready for bed, as he was about to crawl into bed and pull the curtains back.
"Night, Harry." Draco yawned
"G'night," Harrison told him.
Draco pulled his curtains together, and Harrison was the only one still awake. He pulled out the small, black diary and a quill from his trunk before he started writing in the diary, under the glistening moonlight in the night sky.
Hello Tom, He wrote in his neat scrawl.
Hello Harrison, Tom replied instantly.
My first year at Hogwarts is finally wrapping up. I can't wait for the summer holidays to start so I can find the Dark Lord and bring him back, he wrote to him. That's probably the first thing I'm going to do when I get off the train at platform nine and three-quarters.
I'll be glad once my older self regains his body. He's incredibly weak right now, and barely surviving off of rodents, Tom added.
Do you know where the Dark Lord is located?
The black ink disappeared into the book like smoke in the air. It only took several seconds but the words finally appeared on the page, and he finally had his answer.
Forests of Albania.
How do I get there? Harrison asked.
Considering the fact that you haven't learned to apparate yet. You can always take the Knight Bus. It'll take you where you want to go. Tom explained.
The Knight Bus? Harrison hadn't heard of that before, and he was generally curious on what it is, and how you can possibly get there, so he asked Tom for more information.
How do I call the Knight Bus?
Simple, when you get platform nine and three-quarters, you have a couple of options, either floo somewhere like the Leaky Cauldron or go outside Kings Cross Station. Pull out your wand and it shall appear, Tom explained.
…
Exam results were finally posted up. Harrison managed to get the first spot with Granger right below up, and Draco in third. Surprisingly, Saeviour and Weasley passed with good marks, and were in the middle of the list. Much to the dismay of Draco, apparently Longbottom scraped through, and Crabbe and Goyle passed their final exams. They were going back for the second year at Hogwarts.
And suddenly, their wardrobes were empty, their trunks were packed. Notes were handed out to all students, warning them not to use magic over the holidays (even though Harrison knew that several students were going to use magic, despite the warning). The half-giant, Hagrid, was there to take them down to the fleet of boats that sailed across the lake. They boarded the train and Harrison sat with Draco, Blaise, Theo, Crabbe and Goyle, talking and laughing. The countryside became greener and tidier as they sped past Muggle towns. They pulled off their school uniform into their regular wizard attire and soon, pulled into platform nine and three-quarters.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" Draco asked as soon as they boarded off of the train.
"Like I said before, I'll be fine… I'll swing around in a few days or so," Harrison told him.
"If you're sure," Draco sighed.
The conductor helped them get their trunks and Harrison and Draco managed to get theirs rather quickly. He shrunk his trunk and put it into his pocket, so it won't be in the way once he gets on the Knight Bus. Draco stood by, moving his head from right to left, scanning for his parents and finally spotted them as they were standing right by one of the giant, brick pillars.
"There's Mother and Father…. And I think that's… Elladora," Draco said.
Harrison spotted where he was looking and sure enough, there was Ella. She was clutching Lucius's hands tightly and she looked at the train in awe. Harrison followed Draco in tow, eager to say hello to Ella once more.
It didn't take long for Ella to notice as she pulled away from Lucius's hands, and ran quickly to where they stood. Ella jumped up, and wrapped her hands around Harrison's neck. He kneeled down so that Ella's feet were touching the ground, and hugged her tightly. They broke apart, and Harrison could finally see the difference from being out of Azkaban.
Ella's face has finally filled in. There were some remnants that remained in the face, but that was minor. She was also several centimeters taller than she was previously during the Easter holidays. She was also dressed in a light pink summer dress that had several polka-dots on it that fitted her nicely.
"I missed you," she said with a huge smile on her face.
"I missed you, too," he told her. "I trust that you're being good for Lucius and Narcissa, right?"
She nodded and she turned her head towards Draco.
"Who's this?" She asked.
"I'm your cousin, Draco," he introduced himself.
"Oh," Ella said. "You're the one who's been at Hogwarts, keeping my Harry company."
Draco let out a small laugh at that before he replied, "Something like that."
"Come on, Ella, let's go back home," Narcissa called, beckoning her to hold her hand.
"Okay!" She called out, and looked at Harrison who stood there, and asked, "You're not coming with us?"
"No, I have something to do…" He told her. "I'll be there in a couple of days or so."
"Okay."
"I'm going to look for the Dark Lord, so we can bring back your mama and papa, and the rest of them there," he whispered in her ear.
Ella's eyes widened in response.
"Don't tell anyone else this, okay?" He murmured.
Ella nodded.
Ella headed back to the Malfoys and saw the confused look written on Draco and Narcissa's face, before their pureblood mask slid back into place. Ella took Narcissa's hand and they apparated back to Malfoy Manor. Harrison looked at the spot where they once stood before he turned back and headed towards the gate to get to the Muggle side of Kings Cross Station.
Muggles paid no mind to him as he headed outside of the station and headed towards a less populated area. He pulled up his hood, and held his wand up in the air.
It seemed that right after he did that, a purple triple-decker bus appeared out of nowhere with a sound of what was an explosion from the middle of nowhere. It appeared in front of him, and Harrison could barely make out the gold lettering that read the Knight Bus on the front.
