Chapter 6: From Mean Girl to model and actress

Los Angeles, California, 6:35 PM

After graduating high school, Violet Gray, now 22-almost-23, had become a model and an actress. Her hair went halfway down her back, and she'd moved out to Los Angeles shortly after. She was no longer the mean girl she was when she was a kid. She'd outgrown that after cheating at a friendship picnic and getting disqualified and when her last cheating attempt went awry. While her best friend Patty Swanson still lived in Sparkyville, the two besties kept in touch. Shermy started to miss her when she'd moved away from Sparkyville.

Violet had just arrived home from her day of acting for a TV show. She heard the telephone ring.

"Hello?" said Violet.

"Hey, Violet." said Patty Swanson, who was now 23.

"How's Percy?" asked Violet, referring to Pig-Pen, who was now nearly 22.

"He's doing great." said Patty Swanson. " Cleaner than a whistle, sharper than a thistle. However, something bad happened here."
"What's that?" asked Violet.

"Emerald committed suicide."
"Say what?!"
"Emerald drowned herself."
"OH MY GOODNESS!" cried Violet.

"Yeah." said Patty Swanson. "Heard she was in a situation so bad, she decided to end her life."

"So how did you find out about Emerald's death?"
"Lucy told me." said Patty Swanson. "Turns out she's in college. She's unsure when the funeral will be.
"Okay." said Violet. "Let me know when the funeral is."

"See you in a few days, Bestie." said Patty Swanson.

And the two besties hung up on each other.

"Why was Emerald the way she was?" pondered Violet. "Once I know when the funeral is, then Sparkyville, I'll be back."

Violet then had another thought.

"Shermy Plepler, I'll be back for you, Baby!"

Speaking of Shermy, who was now 23, he was now a railway conductor. Having a collection of toy trains as a kid had inspired him to achieve this life goal. He was also training to become a train driver, but a train conducting job needed to come first.

As Shermy had hopped off his caboose, he got a call on his cell phone. He had no choice but to answer it.

"Hello?" Shermy answered.

"Hey, Shermy." said Charlie Brown. "It's Charlie Brown."

"Hey, Charlie Brown. Long time no talk. How are you enjoying your job as a cartoonist?"

"It's wonderful." said Charlie Brown. "Listen, Shermy. Something shocking happened back in Sparkyville."

"Uh oh. What is it?"

"Remember Emerald?"

"Yes?"

"She drowned herself."
"GOOD GRIEF!" cried Shermy.

"Mom informed me that Emerald ended her own life. I never realised how despondent she was in life." said Charlie Brown.

"Okay. Hopefully I'll get word on when the funeral is." said Shermy. "Anyway, I'll see you again soon, Charlie Brown."

Shermy hung up and started to remember.

"I hope to see you again, Babe." Shermy hoped, thinking about Violet.
