Chapter 11: Spearmint and Redhead

Belconnen, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, 11:45

In the years since arriving in America, Spearmint Sammy had severed all his ties with Emerald after she had tried to harm Heather Clyde-Halverson, Tommy's cousin, shortly after Emerald found out the two were dating. He decided, instead of finishing high school, he dropped out of 11th grade, so he and his mother would move back to Australia. They moved into a suburb in Belconnen, a district in Canberra, Australia's capital. Evatt to be exact. Heather CH moved there a few months after, moving into Kaleen, also a suburb in Belconnen. Spearmint Sammy had gotten a job at a gym outside Belconnen Mall, while Heather Clyde-Halverson worked at the child care centre in the mall. A year ago, Spearmint Sammy had asked Heather CH to marry him, to which she happily obliged. They were still yet to announce when and where they would become husband and wife.

Heather Clyde-Halverson, almost 22, was walking out of Belconnen Child Care Centre for her lunch break when her mobile rang. She answered it.

"Hello." said Heather CH.

"Oh. Hey, Heather." said Tommy.

"Cuz! Hi! How's your hobby store going?"

"It's going well." said Tommy. "Anyway, something shocking happened in Sparkyville today."
"What's that?"

"Do you remember Emerald Green?"

"The same girl who tried to kill me because of my Sammykins?" gritted Heather CH.

"She drowned herself."
"What?!"

"Emerald committed suicide."
"Goodness!" cried Heather CH.

"I know." said Tommy. "Her brother Eugene texted me the news, he didn't say how she died, so I phoned Dad, who filled me in that Emerald had killed herself."

"I never knew she was this unhappy with her life." said Heather CH.

"Nor did I." said Tommy. "With all the belittling she gave me since we were kids, I thought she enjoyed her life. Guess I was wrong."

"Anyway, I'm on my lunch break now. Thanks Tommy. I'll see you once I know when the funeral is."

Heather CH went over to the food court and got herself some sushi. As she did so, walking over to her was Spearmint Sammy, now 22 and more buff than he was as a teenager. He had purchased a KFC Snack Box with Popcorn Chicken, as he'd decided today was sometime.

"Hey, Sammykins." cooed Heather CH.

"Hey, Beautiful." said Spearmint Sammy. "How are the kiddies in the child care centre?"
"They're good." said Heather CH. "Well behaved. Anyway, Tommy called me as my lunch break started."
"It wouldn't have to do with Emerald, would it?"

"How did you know?"
"Eugene texted me. He didn't tell me how she died though."
"She drowned herself."
"Goodness!" cried Spearmint Sammy. "I may have detested Emerald, probably more than Tommy and her siblings put together, but not to the point where I wished she was dead!"

"She did bring it on herself I hear." said Heather CH.

"I'm not sure if I'll even go to the funeral since we had bad blood after I told her we'd never be together."
"You might get closure, Sammykins." said Heather CH.

"You know what? I'll think about it." said Spearmint Sammy. "We'll go back to America anyway once we know when Emerald's funeral is."
"Enough about Emerald." said Heather CH. "Let's just enjoy our lunch."
