Sure-Shot skidded to a stop right by Jasmine. Both she and Sensei noticed Adonis' mask in her left paw. Sure-Shot removed her blade from the sheath attached to her left thigh, brandished it and said, "Put down the mask and step away from our partner, slowly."
Jasmine turned her tear stained face towards Sure-Shot, then said, "I can't. He's my partner, and.. my friend. I took a vow to watch my partner's back and I'm not going to break that vow, period!"
"I appreciate that officer. However, we need to keep our identities a secret to protect our families. You already know who he is behind the mask, which makes you either a threat, or an ally? Which is it?" Sure-Shot asked.
Sensei had already dismounted the Cyclotron and was kneeling on Adonis' right side. She examined the burns to assess the damage and didn't like what she saw. His torso was covered in second and third degree burns plus his abdomen was starting to turn red from possible internal bleeding. She'd seen worse, but not on someone she'd cared about. Then Adonis took in a deep breath and she heard his labored breathing. She lifted her helmet off of her head and threw it behind her before she leaned forward, pressing her right ear to his chest, and listened to his heart as well as his lungs. From what she could tell, his heart sounded fine, but his lungs, sounded like those of a smoker. Without an X-Ray, there was no way she could know the extent of the damage. She lifted her head from his chest and said, "Officer, I really don't care if you are an ally or a threat at this point, what I need you to do is get an ambulance here as fast as possible. Our partner needs a doctor, sooner than later."
Jasmine understood what Sensei was telling her, she put the mask down and removed her radio from her belt. "Unit 41 to headquarters, I need a rig and medics to my location."
"Roger unit 41, 20 minutes out,"
"Not fast enough!" She responded back.
"Sorry officer, they are responding from the other side of the city. It's the best they can do,"
Jasmine threw the radio against the ground in frustration, watching it shatter into pieces, then grabbed her hair as she growled, letting her displeasure be known. She let go of her hair, turned to Sure-Shot, then asked, "Surely there is something you all can do?"
"I think we can some up with something," Sure-Shot answered. She tapped her helmet, then said, "T-Bone, Havoc, our brother needs medical attention and apparently, the city is falling short!"
Havoc pushed the throttles fully forward when she heard Sure-Shot over the radio, then responded, "Understood, we'll be there shortly." She clicked off the radio, then asked Sniper, "Are you alright?"
Ever since T-Bone said that Adonis was down, Sniper's heart was filled with dread. Adonis was the closest thing she had to a brother, and to hear that he was injured, or worse made her sick to her stomach. She loved him, and the possibility that he might die, did a number on her. "No, I'm not alright Havoc. Our brother might already be dead!"
"He's not dead Sniper! Get that thought out of your head! He's too stubborn to die! Do you hear me!?" Havoc responded, fighting back her own emotions. All of SWAT were her brothers and sisters but for some reason, she was closer to Adonis than everyone else. She told him things that she didn't even tell Sniper. So the thought of him dying was not acceptable to her. "I'm sorry, my dove. I don't want him to die anymore than you do. We both love him." She wiped away a stray tear from her left cheek, then said, "Let's see what we can do for our brother."
Havoc found an abandoned parking lot to the right of the warehouse that was large enough for the two jets to land safely in. "T-Bone, follow my lead!" She ordered and brought the jet in for a vertical landing.
Havoc deftly maneuvered the TurboKat 2 to a safe landing zone, adjusted the thrusts of the engines so they hovered a few hundred feet above the ground, then she backed off of the throttles, gently setting the jet down on its wheels. She flipped a few switches, shutting down the engines and sliding open the canopy. But before she could un-buckle herself from her seat, Sniper was already jumping out of the jet and running as fast as she could to Adonis. "Be strong for him, he's going to need it." She muttered before following her lead.
Sniper was running as fast as her legs could carry her. Tears of worry ran freely down her face, staining the fur on her cheeks. She shoved Sure-Shot and Jasmine out of the way, fell to her knees right next to Adonis, and held him tightly. "Don't you dare die on me brother!" She said through her sobs. "I want to see your face when your kitten is born, I want to see you being the awesome father I know you are, mostly, I need you in my life!" She rested her head on his chest, then said, "I don't know what life will be like without you in it, and I don't want to find out! I need you, your family needs you Adonis!"
Felina listened through a pair of headphones at everything occurring. She turned back to Lisa who was holding their son in her arms, as happy as can be. "Why do I have to be one one to tell her? If this is what my uncle's job entails, then I'm going to tell him to shove his job where the sun doesn't shine!" She put the headphones down on the console and slowly made her way over to Lisa and Raphael.
Callie returned from the restroom and instantly knew something wasn't right. She noticed her best friend, fighting to keep herself in check and finally noticed where Felina was heading. She walked as fast as she could over to Lisa, then said, "I think mommy needs a break, come with me Raphael," She reached out and took him from Lisa, then continued, "I've got a good bedtime story to tell you." And took Raphael into one of the bedrooms.
Lisa watched as Callie took her son into another room, completely confused as to why.
Felina sat down next to Lisa, took her left paw in hers, then said, "Lisa, there is something I have to tell you."
Lisa suddenly felt sick. She heard the concern in Felina's voice and knew, something was desperately wrong. She lowered her head to face the floor, knowing something went horribly wrong with the mission. "Just tell me Felina."
"Mark is on his way to the hospital Lisa," Felina stated as calmly as she could, holding back her desire to break down, cry, and punch something, very hard.
Lisa though couldn't hold back her tears. She started sobbing and asked, "What happened?"
Felina grasped Lisa's paw tighter, then answered, "From what I can tell, he was leaving the warehouse, then there was an explosion. The last I heard, there was a request for an ambulance and medics on the Enforcer's frequency. Everyone is with him now, or at least will be. I'm sure Jake will call me as soon as he knows something."
"Is he dead?" Lisa asked bluntly.
"I..I don't know," Felina answered.
Lisa slumped forward, resting her face in her paws, and cried.
Felina slid beside her, trying her best to comfort her. But ended up crying herself. "Mark is not dead Lisa. He is too pig-headed to die."
Lisa lifted her body from the slump she was in and embraced Felina with all her might. "I need him Felina! He's my husband, my partner in life, and the father to our kittens! What are we going to do if he's gone?!"
Felina rocked her in her arms, holding her dear friend tight, letting Lisa cry as much as she wanted to. "He's not gone Lisa, there is no way Mark is going to leave you alone. He loves you too much to do that."
"I want to see him, take me to the hospital Felina, please!" Lisa pleaded.
"Alright, let me see of Callie can watch Raphael, and I'll take you," She said before she separated herself from Lisa and went into the other room.
Callie was tucking Raphael into her fiancé's old bed when Felina entered the room and closed the door. She slumped against the door, then said, "I don't know how my uncle did that for all of these years Callie."
"Telling someone's husband or wife that their significant other is on the way to the hospital? I've known Ulysses ever since I was an intern Felina, and I know, he hates that part of the job too." She finished tucking Raphael into Chance's old bed, kissed his forehead, and turned her head to face Felina. "How is she doing?" Callie asked.
"Lisa is thinking the worse, she wants me to take her to see him, any chance you can stay here and watch Raphael?" She asked.
"SWAT should be at the hospital, watching over our friend and partner Felina, not sitting in a garage, kitten-sitting," Callie answered, getting up from the bed.
"You're right Callie, we all should be there for our friend and partner. I guess we are going to have to take Raphael with us," Felina said.
Callie picked up Raphael from under the covers, held him in her arms, then asked him, "Want to go see daddy?"
Upon hearing the term 'daddy' leave Callie's mouth, Raphael smiled and cooed happily.
"I guess you do, let's go and get you into your father's arms little one," Callie said.
T-Bone and Razor had already landed right next to the TurboKat 2 and were standing next to Sure-Shot and Jasmine, watching Sniper holding Adonis' left paw while Sensei examined him further. "What can we do to help Sensei?" T-Bone asked.
"He needs to get to the hospital as soon as possible T-Bone. There must be something we can do?" Sensei was pleading with her question.
"There is, in the belly of the TurboKat, there is a foldable stretcher. We can load him on that, while I borrow that van over there," Razor said while pointing to a white van sitting off in the corner of the lot.
"You plan on stealing a van partner?" T-Bone asked.
"Not stealing, more like commandeering. The stretcher is stored just below the left wing," Razor stated before running towards the van.
T-Bone turned around and ran back to his jet. He opened the panel Razor mentioned, loosened the straps that secured the stretcher to the frame of the jet, then pulled it free before running back to Adonis, carrying the stretcher under his left arm.
Razor was busy trying every door on the van, hoping one of them would be un-locked. However, the van was locked up tighter than a sealed drum. Without a choice, he removed a center punch from one of the pouches on his belt, placed the point against the driver's side door glass, and pressed the punch against the glass. When the punch activated, the glass shattered into tiny glass balls which fell to the ground and the interior of the van. That was when something pungent hit his nose. He backed away from the van, covered his mouth and nose with a portable respirator, and reached back inside to open the van.
The driver's door opened and Razor stepped into the van. He turned around in the driver's seat and found the source of the odor. The cargo area of the van was filled with bails of Catnip. He hated drugs and those that peddled that stuff as well. He reached under the dash and quickly hot-wired the van which started right up, sat back in the seat, and put it in gear. He drove right in front of the Enforcers and the local cops, stopped the van, then said as he looked out of once was the driver's window, "I have more evidence on the Diamonds for you. If you run the tag on this van, I'm sure you will find that it belongs to one of the gang members, if not the leader. Take the crap in the back of the van. However, I need it to get my partner to the hospital.
The Chief of the local Police opened the back of the van and saw the bails of Catnip packed to the roofline of the van. He turned around and ordered, "I need ten officers over here now to unload this as evidence!"
Several officers ran from various parts of the lot surrounding the warehouse to the van. They formed two lines on either side of the rear doors and unloaded the bails. After they were stacked neatly and the doors were closed, Razor slammed his foot on the accelerator to drive the short distance between where he was and Adonis' still form.
T-Bone was already setting up the stretcher when the van Razor commandeered skidded to a stop to his right. He smelled the remnants of the Catnip, then asked, "Is it safe for anyone to be riding in that thing?"
"Do we have much of a choice!? Its either this or put him in the belly of the TurboKat! I know he won't survive the flight if we do the latter!"
"The drug laced van it is then. Care to get out and help load him, Razor?" T-Bone sarcastically asked.
Razor opened the door to the van, jumped out, and once he landed on his feet, he asked, "Sensei, what do you need us to do?"
"One, I need a First Aid kit, with lots of burn cream. Secondly, once I have him stabilized, You and T-Bone take the upper half of the stretcher while Havoc and I take the lower half," Sensei said. She turned her head to the left, then said, "Sniper, I'm going to need you in the back of the van with me, finally, she lifted her head to face Jasmine and Sure-Shot, "Sure-Shot and officer..what's your name?" Sensei asked Jasmine.
"Its officer Harper, but you can call me Jasmine," she responded.
"You and Sure-Shot are going to escort us to the hospital, and don't stop for anything!"
"You've got it Sensei!" Jasmine responded. She laid her right paw on Sure-Shot's shoulder, then said, "Come on partner, we have a job to do."
Sure-Shot sheathed her sword, then went back to her Cyclotron.
Sniper was already searching the cockpit of the TurboKat 2, looking for the First Aid kit Sensei needed. She eventually found it under her seat. She reached out with her right paw, grabbed the white plastic handle, and pulled it from its cradle. She then jumped off of the left wing of the jet and ran back to Sensei as fast as she could. She handed the kit to Sensei as she said, "Here's the First Aid kit, please take care of him."
"Arigato Sniper-San," she responded and got to work. After opening the kit, she found a large tube of burn cream. She twisted the cap off, squeezed out a liberal amount onto her right paw, and applied it to Adonis' burns.
His breath hitched as the cream touched the burns, which caused Sniper to gasp and grasp his left paw in hers.
Sensei worked faster, applying the cream and bandages to his body. She finished bandaging his body, then rose to her feet in one fluid motion. "I need to make a phone call, in private." She said before walking towards the TurboKat and ducking behind it. Sensei pulled her phone out of one of the pouches attached to her belt and dialed the one tom she knew she could trust.
Henry and Mary decided to go out for a romantic dinner to celebrate over fifty years of marriage. They were both waiting out in front of the restaurant for their limo to take them home. When his phone started ringing in his jacket breast pocket. "Of all the rotten luck!" Henry said before he pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket and noticed it was Felicia calling."Mary, I know I said tonight is ours, but Felicia is calling, she wouldn't call if it wasn't necessary, would you mind one tiny little transgression?"
"I know you can't resist her Henry. Go on, and talk to your other daughter," Mary stated.
Henry pushed the accept button on the phone and brought it up to his left ear. He answered, "Felicia, I really hope this is important, Mary looks like she wants to fricassee me."
"I'm sorry for interrupting your anniversary dinner Henry, but this is important," Sensei said as she tried to figure out the best way to explain to Henry she is a SWAT Kat. However, Henry is a very smart tom and as soon as he saw her in her uniform, he would instantly figure it out. So there was no point in hiding it any longer from him. "My partner was badly burned from an explosion tonight. I treated the burns the best I could. However, I heard something in his lungs I was not happy about. We are bringing him in."
"You said your partner, is Kevin alright?" Henry asked.
"Its not Kevin Henry, its his brother, Mark," Sensei answered.
"Mark, as in Lisa's husband? Why are you partnered with him? What are you not telling me Felicia?" Henry asked.
Sensei slumped against the left side of the jet, then answered, "Henry, do you remember when Lisa was brought in for the gunshot wound to the shoulder?"
"Yes I do, what about it?" He asked.
"Do you also remember her alias?" She asked.
"Yes, she is also known as Pirouette and her husband is also known as Adonis.. Oh no, please don't tell me you got mixed up in SWAT Felicia?"
"I did Henry. Lisa invited me to join SWAT after I displayed what I could do. My code name is Sensei and as much as I love working with you in the hospital, being a member of SWAT and going out there, saving lives and protecting the city's citizens in ways the Enforcers can't, is what I was meant to do," Sensei replied.
Henry sighed, knowing he was going to have to cut his date with his wife short to go and help Mark. "I'll be there as soon as I can. We are going to have a very long talk about this Felicia, see you soon," Henry said, then hung up.
"I know that look Henry, you are going to the hospital, aren't you?" Mary asked, crossing her arms.
"You'll know me so well Mary. Yes, I'm needed there, apparently Adonis got caught up in an explosion. From what Felicia told me, he's badly burned and he's not breathing properly," Henry answered as he took her paws in his.
"Why was he in a situation where there could be an explosion in the first place?" She asked, then shook her head, then said, "Never mind, that big teddy bear is going to need someone to be there for him when he wakes up."
"You're coming with me dear?" Henry asked, taking his paws back.
"You bet I am Henry! And once Adonis is able to move on his own again, I'm going to take him over my knee for making his family worry about him!" Mary said.
"I love you Mary," Henry responded as he noticed his limo arriving. "Our chariot has arrived."
Alice pulled up to the front of the restaurant, parked the limo, and slipped out of the driver's seat. She walked around the front of the limo to where Henry and Mary were waiting, then asked, "Did you two enjoy your dinner?"
"We did Alice and thank you. Would you mind swinging by MegaKat General please?" Henry asked as Alice opened the door for them.
"Not exactly the place to end a romantic anniversary dinner, doctor?" Alice said.
"No its not Alice. But I'm needed there, I won't let one of my patients down because I'm out on a date with my wife," Henry answered as he extended his right paw to help is wife into the back of the limo.
"Thank you dear," Mary said as she slumped into the back of the limo.
"Dr. Feldman, your wife is quite lovely and lucky to have you as a husband," Alice said.
"No Alice, I'm the lucky one. Mary could have rejected me when I was acting like a jerk. She accepted my apology and eventually became my wife. Adonis needs me to help him Alice."
"Adonis! What's wrong with him?" Alice asked, obviously shocked.
"I really don't know Alice," Henry stated.
"Well, get in and hang on. Diana may fire me for this, but that Big Lug needs help!"
T-Bone, Razor, Havoc, and Sensei managed to get Adonis loaded into the back of the van while Sniper held his paws.
"He's one heavy tom," T-Bone said as he wiped his forehead.
"All of that weight is going to be his advantage," Sensei said. "If he were a smaller tom, he wouldn't have survived. Let's go! I don't know how much time Adonis has left!"
That was the last thing Sniper wanted to hear. A fresh round of tears flooded her eyes as she sat on the floor to the left of Adonis' still form. She held onto his left paw and said, "Don't you dare give up brother!" She kissed his paw then said, "Your family needs you."
Razor closed the back doors of the van. He choked up before he turned to T-Bone, then said, "I'll see you at the hospital."
"May Bast herself give you the speed you need Razor," T-Bone said.
Razor nodded, then ran towards the driver's side door of the van. He opened the door, got in, closed the door, and put it in gear.
As Razor drove away, Sure-Shot rode past Havoc and T-Bone on her Cyclotron followed by Jasmine in her patrol car with its lights on and siren blaring.
"Time for us to head out Havoc, you ok?" T-Bone asked.
Havoc shook her head as she answered, "Niet! Sniper is a mess, Adonis is barely hanging on, and we all have no idea how Pirouette is handling all of this."
T-Bone hugged her tight, then said, "Our brother is going to pull through. However, Sniper is going to need you, no matter what happens."
She pulled back and looked into T-Bone's eyes, then broke down. She held onto him tighter than she had ever before, then said between her sobs, "I don't know if I can do this anymore! The tom Sniper and I care about as a brother is lying in the back of a Drug Laced van on his way to the hospital! Even Sensei doesn't know for sure if he is going to make it! We took a vow to put our own lives on the line to protect the ones we love. Yet, none of us were there to watch our brother's back!"
"Havoc, what happened here was an unfortunate accident. None of us expected this to happen, and if I had the chance to do it again, I would have waited with Razor until everyone had left," T-Bone responded and rubbed her back with his right paw. "You need to be strong, especially for Sniper. She's taking this harder than all of us. Plus Pirouette is going to need everyone to support her, no matter what happens."
She wiped away a few sniffles, pulled back from T-Bone, then said, "You're more than just a great body to me T-Bone."
"I thought you were over me Havoc?" He nervously asked.
Havoc kissed him on the cheek, then said, "I am, but I love you, as a great friend."
He smiled at her, then said, "I love you too, friend. Let's go and support our family."
Sure-Shot and Jasmine leap-frogged through the intersections, blocking the traffic so Razor could pass, completely unimpeded.
It was now Sure-Shot's turn to block the next intersection. She skidded to a stop in the middle of the intersection with her legs spread on either side of the Cyclotron and her arms raised out to the side. A car loaded with teenagers got a little too close to her. She kicked the right rear quarter panel of the car as it came within inches of her and yelled, "Watch it!"
The car skidded to a stop and the driver got out. He looked at the very small dent on his car, then went over to confront Sure-Shot.
"Here we go," she muttered as the teenager approached her, and said, "I think you dented my car!"
"And you almost hit me! I think we are even!" Sure-Shot replied.
Razor flew past them, completely unimpeded, but Jasmine didn't. She stopped her car right next to the two, leaned out of the window, then asked, "Is there a problem here?"
"Officer, this Vigilante dented my car with her boot! I want her arrested!" The teenager said.
"On what charge!?" Sure-Shot asked as her head whipped around to face the teenager.
"Destruction of property," the teenager answered.
"Oh for crying out loud," Jasmine muttered before getting out of her car. She got into the teenager's face, then said, "I want to hear why she felt she needed to kick your car first." She turned to Sure-Shot, then asked, "What's your side, and make it quick!"
"This newbie driver came within inches of hitting me as he crossed the intersection, which I happened to be blocking for you officer," Sure-Shot answered.
Jasmine looked at the tire marks on the pavement and quickly determined that Sure-Shot was telling the truth. She turned back to the teenager, then said, "She had every right to kick your car. You almost hit her!" She then smelled alcohol on the teenager's breath, then asked, "Have you been drinking?"
"N..No, I haven't had anything to drink since last night officer," he responded, slowly backing away from Jasmine.
"Really now, so if I made you take a Breathalyzer test, right here and now, you would pass?" Jasmine asked as she followed the teenager's steps.
The teenager panicked. He turned tail and ran back to his car, jumped in, and took off. But before Jasmine could call for backup, he cut off another Enforcer vehicle, who immediately gave chase. "Serves you right!" Jasmine said before she turned back to Sure-Shot, then said, "We've got a job to complete and we are wasting time standing around here. Go! I'll catch up"
Sure-Shot didn't need to be told twice. She kicked the Cyclotron into gear and took off after Razor.
Jasmine ran back to her car, slid behind the wheel, and slammed the door closed. She put the car back in gear and followed after Sure-Shot.
As Razor made his way through a perilous intersection, he almost flipped the van over on its right side due to his very aggressive driving. Once through, he breathed a sigh of relief, then asked, "How's he doing?"
Sensei and Sniper were trying to hold Adonis still as the van rocked back and forth. "It would be easier to figure out, if the van was stable Razor!" Sensei said.
"I could keep the van, nice and stable Sensei, if our escorts were here to stop traffic! Where are you Sure-Shot!?" He asked into the ComLink.
"Sorry Razor! Jasmine and I had a, little trouble back there," Sure-Shot responded as she bobbed in and out of traffic, doing over one hundred miles an hour.
"Why do I get the feeling I really don't want to know what she's talking about," Razor said.
"You're right about that buddy, "T-Bone said.
"And where have you and Havoc been all of this time?" Razor asked as he jerked the wheel to the left.
"Right above all of you, at about twenty thousand feet," Havoc answered. "If you turn right in five blocks, you will have a clear path to the ER's entrance."
Razor counted out the streets as he past them. Then, he turned right, onto the street Havoc mentioned was clear. He floored it, speeding towards the hospital.
Dr. Feldman and Mary held on tightly to whatever they could grab onto as Alice brought the limo into the Hospital's driveway. She slammed on the brakes, right at the ER's entrance, bringing the limo to a screeching halt. "We're here." She triumphantly said.
Henry and Mark were tangled up on the floor from being thrown out of their seats. As they de-tangled themselves, Henry said, "Alice, please don't take this the wrong way. You're driving is insane! You could have killed us!"
Alice's ears drooped since she thought she was doing good with getting the doctor to the hospital as fast as possible. "My apologies doctor. Adonis is my friend, I only want what's best for him and when you mentioned you were going to be the one to treat him, I wanted to make sure you got here in time to help him."
"Henry, don't be too hard on her, you know if it was Daniella who was hurt, you would have driven worse than she did," Mary stated as she laid her right paw on Henry's left shoulder.
"You're right dear," Henry said before he kissed his wife, then said, "Alice, why don't you park the car and come inside? Surely your friend is going to want to see you when he wakes up. That is right after Pirouette probably slugs him for making her worry about him."
Alice laughed for a second at the image of Pirouette punching Adonis and hurting her own paw in the process. She then said, "You're right doctor, I'll park the limo and be in shortly."
Henry extended his right elbow to Mary, then asked, "Shall we?"
"Yes, my handsome husband," she responded. Right before Razor arrived in the van.
Razor slammed on the brakes, making all four tires lockup, smoke, and bark from the friction. The van nosedived, almost lifting its rear end off of the ground until it stopped. The van's back end bobbed up and down on its springs for about three seconds, then stopped.
Razor flung open the driver's door and jumped out of the van before running to the back and swinging the two back doors open. "Remind me to get hurt, if I get two lovely looking nurses like you two to look after me," He jokingly said.
"And have Caliber mad at us? No thank you," Sniper said before she let go of Adonis' paw and stepped out of the van. She finally kissed Razor's cheek, which made him blush, then ran inside the ER to get help.
Sensei finished making sure Adonis' bandages were secured and his mask was on before she stepped out of the van and noticed Razor blushing. "Careful Razor, if Caliber saw her kissing you, you might end up missing a few parts," She said.
"I doubt Caliber would go that far Sensei. However, I can see why Havoc fell for her, her lips feel divine against my fur," he said as he rubbed the area where Sniper kissed him.
"Time to get to work dear. I'll see you inside," Henry said before taking his arm back and making his way over to the van.
Mary looked over to the van and saw Sensei's very distinctive hair done up in a high ponytail. She instantly knew that it was Felicia, and said, "Take it easy on her Henry. I know you love Felicia as a daughter, just as she loves you like a grandfather." And went inside the hospital.
Henry made his way over to the van and peered inside at Adonis' bandaged body. Not being able to examine him in the van, he turned to Sensei, who looked as nervous as she could be. "Sensei, right?" He asked.
She simply nodded in response.
"Look, I know this is very difficult for you Felicia, but I need you to be the awesome nurse I know you are. We'll talk about SWAT later. Now, give me the rundown of his condition please?" Henry calmly asked.
Sensei responded to Henry's soothing words by saying, "Thirty three year old male, second and third degree burns on his chest and abdomen. Labored breathing and possible internal bleeding."
"Alright, once we get him inside, start two IVs, cross and type his blood with the bank, and order a full Tox workup. We are going to want to know what he ingested when that explosion went off and have the lab put a rush on it," Henry said, before he smiled at her and said, "Great field dressing Felicia, if I knew you didn't have your heart set on making your dojo be the best it can be, I would suggest you and I have a very serious discussion about you going to Medical School for your Doctorate."
Sensei smiled at Henry, then said, "You are the one who taught me how to apply bandages in the field doctor."
By then, Sniper was running back to the van with three large Orderlies and a stretcher.
Two of the Orderlies jumped into the back of the van and lifted the front half of the stretcher, while Sensei and the third Orderly lifted the bottom half. All four of them removed Adonis from the van and placed him on the Hospital's stretcher, then secured him before wheeling him into the ER.
The doors to the ER slid open and as Adonis was wheeled in, Sensei started barking orders to the ER's staff.
Nancy happened to be working in the ER that night, despite developing quite a belly from her pregnancy. "Excuse me miss! You can't come barging in here and start ordering the staff! Just who do you think you are?!" She asked.
"Nice to see you too Nancy, but those are Dr. Feldman's orders," Sensei said.
"Do I know you?" Nancy asked.
Sensei was so focused on getting Adonis taken care of, she fell into the role of a Nurse, without realizing she was still in her SWAT uniform and not Felicia Harrison. She took Nancy by the right arm and pulled her into one of the locker rooms.
Nancy took her arm back, and said, "You have exactly thirty seconds to tell me who you are, before I knock you to the floor! And believe me, even though I'm pregnant, I still can kick your tail!"
Sensei ripped her mask off, showing her face to Nancy.
Her friend gasped as soon as she saw Felicia's face revealed to her. "Felicia, what.. why?" She nervously asked.
"I'll explain later Nancy. Right now, Adonis needs treatment or he's going to die! I refuse to let the latter occur!" Felicia said as she stripped our of her uniform and donned a set of Nurse's scrubs.
"I'm with you Felicia, tell us what you need and I will make sure it happens," Nancy said.
They both left the locker room and returned to the Trauma bay where Adonis lay on the stretcher.
Nancy barked, "Why weren't the orders carried out!? Everyone! Stop staring at the SWAT Kat and get to work! We have a life to save!"
Teams of two worked on Adonis. One team started the two IVs, while another drew his blood, and another, secured an Oxygen mask to his face and connected him to various monitors mounted on the wall.
Dr. Feldman entered the Trauma bay after he changed into a pair of scrubs himself. He looked at the monitors and noticed Adonis' pulse was good and his Blood Pressure was a little high, but he expected that. The one thing that concerned him the most was his Blood Oxygen levels. They fluctuated between eighty-nine and ninety percent saturation. For a tom his size, that was too low. "How much O2 is he being given?" He asked.
A nurse looked at the flow gauge attached to the tube feeding the mask, then answered, "Four liters per minute doctor."
"Someone get Radiology down here and get a Chest Film!" He ordered then put his Stethoscope in his ears and placed the other end over his right lung. He listened to what sounded like fluid moving every time Adonis breathed, then listened to the left lung. When he heard almost nothing, he scowled, then ordered, "I need a Chest Tube in here stat!"
Felicia was the first to respond to the doctor's orders. She sprinted out of the Trauma Bay to a Large Toolbox at the other end of the hall. She punched a eight digit code into the security panel, which unlocked the box, then pulled open the second draw from the bottom. Felicia reached in and grabbed one of the Chest Tubes before returning to the Trauma Bay.
"Here you go doctor," She said as she handed Henry the tube.
"Thank you Felicia, please prep the site," Henry said.
Felicia went over to another Toolbox, opened the top, and removed a razor as well as a bottle of Beta-dyne and a sponge. She retuned to Adonis' side and shaved the area where the tube was to be inserted. She wiped the area down with the Beta-dyne and laid a blue cape over the area that had a cutout for the doctor.
Dr. Feldman stepped forward wearing a face shield and a surgical mask, then said, "Scalpel."
Felicia handed him a scalpel and prepared herself for what was about to happen.
Dr. Feldman removed the safety cap from the scalpel, looked at Adonis' face one last time, before focusing on the site and slicing it open. A large amount of blood poured from the open incision and hit the floor.
"Call the Blood Bank and get four units of Typed Blood down here!" He ordered.
Nancy picked up the phone nearest the Trauma Bay and made the call to the Blood Bank.
Henry continued working, he inserted the Chest Tube and applied a large amount of gauze to the site.
The Radiology team arrived with a Portable X-Ray and waited in the hall.
"About time you guys arrived! On a Coffee break again?" Henry asked.
"If you haven't noticed, our department is understaffed doctor," one of the Radiologists said.
"Understaffed!? The last time I looked at your roster, you have plenty of personnel to man your department!" Henry said, obviously pissed that once again he had to cut into someone without a set of films. "Here's what's going to happen Monday morning, Radiology is going to have someone assigned to the ER constantly, not as an On-Call as we operate now. Is that clear?"
"Yes doctor," he responded.
While they were discussing the matter, Adonis' Blood Pressure plummeted. The monitor let out a Alarm and the ER Staff reacted.
"No way am I loosing you! He needs blood! Now!" Henry said as he searched for the source of the bleeding.
Sniper was pacing back and forth in the Waiting Area, worse than a caged animal. She was severely worried about Adonis and when she couldn't wait another minute, she charged through the doors leading into the ER. She heard Dr. Feldman, and as she slid open the curtain, she said,"Where is the Blood bank, I'll get it myself!"
Felicia was grabbing more gauze to control the bleeding from the incision and stuffing it into the wound. "Third Floor Sniper!"
Sniper took off faster than she had ever ran before. She bashed into a security door that led into a stairwell and ran up the stairs four at a time until she reached the third floor. She slammed open the door and entered a very short room with only a small window for the blood to be passed through.
Sniper approached the window and on beaded breaths, she said, "Dr. Feldman sent me up here for Adonis' blood!"
The attendant dropped the phone she was holding, since she literally got the order from the ER no more than a minute ago. "How the heck did you get up here that fast?" She asked.
"Doesn't matter," Sniper answered. "I need that blood!"
The attendant slid the four units of blood through the window and Sniper gathered them up in her arms before returning to the stairs. Although, this time, she had to slow down so she didn't accidentally drop the units of blood. But she moved as fast as she could, almost jumping down entire flights of stairs.
She stopped at the ER's floor and returned to the Trauma Bay when a long high-pitched tone hit her ears. Sniper stood as still as everyone in the bay was as Henry removed his mask, then proclaiming, "Time of Death, 01:28 hours. She dropped the blood to the floor.
