The Rowdy Riolu
Lincoln and his friends continue down the road towards Santalune City so he can register for the Kalos League and challenge the gym.
Lincoln takes the time to train up his new Dunsparce, as well as his other Pokemon.
His Bagon, Fennekin, and Panpour got a bit stronger, his Zigzagoon learned Sand Attack, his Dunsparce learned Spite, and during Kakuna's training, he froze up and started to glow.
"Hey! My Kakuna's evolving!" said Lincoln.
"That was fast!" said Shauna.
"Well, most bug Pokemon evolve pretty early." said Trevor. Everyone watches as Lincoln's Kakuna seemed to crack open, and a large, beelike Pokemon with lance-like stingers on the ends of his arms, comes out of it.
"Whoa!" said Lincoln as he points his pokedex at his newly evolved Kakuna.
"Beedrill, the Poison Bee Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Weedle. It has three poisonous stingers on its forelegs and its tail. They are used to jab its enemy repeatedly." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"That's one bee I wouldn't want to sting me." said Lincoln.
"Yeah." said Trevor.
"And my pokedex says he learned Fury Attack after evolving." said Lincoln.
Lincoln returns his Pokemon to their pokeballs and they all continue on their way.
After a few more minutes of walking, the group sees Santalune City in the distance.
"We're almost there!" said Shauna as she runs off towards their destination with her friends taking off after her. They soon enter the city and head right for the Pokemon Center. When they get to it, they all head inside and go over to the front desk where a nurse watches them approach her.
"Hello, everyone." said the nurse. "How may I help you today?"
"Can I get my Pokemon treated?" asked Lincoln as he puts his pokeballs on the desk.
"Us, too." said Lincoln's friends as they put their pokeballs on the desk.
"Certainly." said the nurse as she puts the group's pokeballs on a tray. "They'll be fully healed by tomorrow morning."
"Can I also get registered for the Kalos League, please?" asked Lincoln.
"Let me see your pokedex, young man, so I can put your information into the computer." said the nurse. Lincoln hands the nurse the requested item and she inserts it into a slot under her computer screen and types in a few commands into it. After about a minute, she hands Lincoln his pokedex back.
"There you are." said the nurse. "You are now registered for the Kalos League."
"Awesome!" cheered Lincoln. Just then, a small boy with brown hair, wearing a red t-shirt, blue denim shorts, and white shoes; carrying an injured Bunnelby, runs up to the front desk, making Lincoln and his friends move out of the way to clear the way for him.
"Nurse! Please help my Bunnelby!" said the boy. The nurse grabs the boy's Pokemon and examines the bruises on it.
"What happened to it?" asked the nurse.
"We were playing on Route 22 when a blue Pokemon came out of some grass and attacked him." said the boy.
"Not again." said the nurse. "That's the tenth time this week."
"Is there a problem?" asked Lincoln.
"A Pokemon called Riolu has been hanging out on the road east of the city and attacking trainers' Pokemon." said the nurse.
"Why is it doing that?" asked Shauna.
"We don't know." said the nurse. "We've tried to find and capture it, but we haven't had any real success."
"That's mean of Riolu to go around hurting other Pokemon." said Serena.
"I hope something is done soon." said the nurse as she brings the group's Pokemon, along with the boy's Bunnelby to the Pokemon Center's treatment room.
"We should do something." said Tierno.
"But it's getting kind of dark out." said Trevor.
"And I could use a bite to eat." said Lincoln. "We can figure out what to do in the morning."
"Good idea." said Shauna. The group goes to the cafeteria and get meals for themselves. As they ate, they began discussing the Riolu that the nurse told them about.
"Why do you think that Riolu is attacking other Pokemon?" asked Serena.
"It could be for a number of reasons." said Trevor. "That area could be its territory and is protecting it, it could be doing it to prove something to itself, or it could be doing it for fun."
"Fighting for the fun of it?" asked Lincoln. "Reminds me of my sister, Lynn."
"Well, whatever the reason, we shouldn't let it keep hurting other Pokemon." said Shauna.
"Tomorrow, after breakfast, we could check out Route 22 and see if we can find that Riolu." said Lincoln.
"What about your gym battle?" asked Tierno.
"I heard that gym leaders are stronger than normal trainers." said Lincoln. "I could train my Pokemon on Route 22 for a bit; and maybe by doing that, I can lure out the Riolu and catch it."
"That sounds like a good idea." said Trevor.
"If that Riolu is like my sister, it won't resist the urge to fight a tough opponent." said Lincoln.
"Hey, Lincoln." said Tierno. "Are you gonna sell that Nugget that your Zigzagoon found earlier?"
"I forgot about that." said Lincoln as he reaches into his backpack and pulls out the valuable object. "I'll sell it before I get ready for bed."
"Okay." said Tierno.
After the group finishes their meals, Lincoln goes to the PokeMart and sells his Nugget before they go to the rooms the Pokemon Center has for trainers, shower, take care of their teeth, and go to sleep.
The next morning, the group wakes up and heads for the cafeteria for breakfast.
"So, if I remember correctly, Route 22 is east of Santalune?" asked Lincoln as he ate.
"That's right." said Trevor.
"And that's where we'll find that Riolu." said Shauna.
"Let's hurry and finish eating so we can head over there." said Tierno. The group nods and finish their meals. Once they were done, they exit the Pokemon Center and start heading to the east entrance of Santalune City and leave through it.
"Here's Route 22." said Trevor as he notices the route sign on the side of the road.
"Now let's look for that Riolu." said Lincoln; everyone else nods in response. They walk down the road and look around tall grass for Riolu. They suddenly hear rustling coming from the grass.
"Is that Riolu?" asked Shauna. She got her answer when a round, blue, mouselike Pokemon with a thin black tail with a blue ball on the end of it, jumps out of the grass. Shauna takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Azurill, the Polka Dot Pokemon. A Pokémon that lives by water. It moves quickly on land by bouncing on its big tail." said Shauna's pokedex.
"Not Riolu, but I'll catch this one." said Shauna, pulling out a pokeball. "Chespin, go!" She throws Chespin's pokeball and releases it. "Okay, Chespin, use Vine Whip!" A green vine comes out of each side of Chespin's head, and they hit Azurill, knocking it back. It gets up and releases bubbles from its mouth and they hit Chespin, but not doing much damage.
"That looked like Bubble." said Trevor. What the group doesn't know is that while Shauna's Chespin was battling Azurill, another Pokemon was watching with interest.
"Chespin, Tackle!" said Shauna. Chespin charges at Azurill and rams into it, knocking it to the ground. Shauna takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Azurill, hitting it, and sucking it in; it wiggled around until it clicked. "Yes! Azurill's mine!"
"Way to go, Shauna." said Lincoln. Shauna takes out her pokedex and uses it to look up her new Azurill.
"Okay; this says Azurill's a boy, he knows Splash, Water Gun, Tail Whip, Water Sport, and Bubble." said Shauna. "He has the Huge Power ability which doubles his attack strength."
"Let's keep looking around for a bit more." said Lincoln. But before anyone can take a step, something shoots out from some tall grass and slams into Chespin, knocking him down.
"What was that?" asked Serena. Everyone looks to see a blue, bipedal, foxlike Pokmeon with black long ears, torso, and lower legs, along with long white bumps on its forearms.
"Is that Riolu?" asked Lincoln as he points his pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Riolu, the Emanation Pokemon. It uses the shape of auras, which change according to emotion, to communicate with others." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"So, you're Riolu?" asked Lincoln. The Pokemon, now revealed to be a Riolu, glares at Lincoln while getting into a battle stance.
"Looks like it wants to fight." said Tierno.
"Well, I'll give it a fight all right!" said Shauna as she and Chespin step forward.
"Be careful, Shauna." said Lincoln.
"Chespin, use Rollout!" said Shauna. Her Chespin rolls itself into a ball and moves at the Riolu, slamming into it, but not doing much damage; Riolu become covered in an orange energy, and it punches Chespin hard, sending it flying to Shauna's feet, unconscious.
"Chespin!" shouts Shauna as she cradles her Pokemon who was weakly waking up.
"That looked like Counter." said Trevor. "It takes the power of a physical attack the Pokemon using it was hit with and reflects it back at its opponent with double its power."
"Sounds like a powerful move." said Lincoln.
"What do we do now?" asked Tierno. Lincoln thinks for a bit before he steps forward with Fennekin's pokeball and lets her out of it.
"What's your plan, Lincoln?" asked Trevor.
"If Counter can only reflect power from physical attacks, I won't use them." said Lincoln. "Fennekin knows Ember, so I'll focus on using that."
"That sounds like it could work." said Serena. Lincoln and Fennekin get pumped up for battle, unknowingly letting out a strong aura from themselves which gets Riolu's attention.
"Are you ready, Fennekin?" asked Lincoln, getting a nod in response from his fire type Pokemon. Riolu charges at Fennekin with incredible speed and rams into her, knocking her back.
"I think that was Quick Attack." said Trevor.
"Fennekin, Ember!" said Lincoln. Fennekin releases bits of fire from her mouth and they hit Riolu, damaging it; fire covered its body.
"Riolu's burned." said Trevor. Riolu flinches in pain from its burn. Riolu charges at Fennekin and rams her again, but not doing much damage due to burn weakening its attack strength.
"Fennekin, Ember once more!" said Lincoln. Fennekin releases more bits of fire from her mouth, and they hit Riolu, damaging it; Riolu flinches in pain from its burn and drops to one knee. Lincoln takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Riolu, hitting it, and sucking it in; it wiggled around until it clicked. "Yes! I caught a Riolu!"
"Way to go, Lincoln!" said Tierno; Riolu's pokeball suddenly vanishes.
"Oh, that's right; trainers can only have six Pokemon with them." said Lincoln.
"Correct; other Pokemon trainers catch will be transported to Professor Sycamore's lab and will remain there until they exchange one of the Pokemon they have with one from the lab." said Trevor. Lincoln looks up Riolu's information on his pokedex.
"This says Riolu's a boy, he knows Foresight, Quick Attack, Endure, and Counter; he has the Steadfast ability which increases his speed each time he flinches in battle." said Lincoln.
"At least Riolu won't cause any problems with people on this route anymore." said Shauna.
"Let's head back to the Pokemon Center and tell the nurse the Riolu problem has been solved." said Trevor.
"Okay." said Serena. As the group heads back towards Santalune City, Lincoln thinks about his new Riolu and how tough it was.
"How do I swap my Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.
"There's a PC in the Pokemon Center that can be used to do that." said Trevor.
"Okay." said Lincoln.
The group soon arrive back in Santalune City and immediately head to the Pokemon Center; there, they tell the nurse about Riolu.
"Thank you so much for taking care of our little problem." said the nurse.
"We were glad to help." said Shauna who hands the nurse her Chespin to get it treated after its battle with Riolu.
"Where's the PC?" asked Lincoln.
"It's over there." said the nurse who points to a nearby computer that was on the desk. Trevor then shows Lincoln how to use the PC to swap Pokemon, and he exchanges his Beedrill for his Riolu.
"What are you going to do with Riolu?" asked Serena.
"I'm gonna keep him on my team for a while." said Lincoln. "Maybe after lunch I'll head back to Route 22 and train my Pokemon for a bit."
"Okay." said Shauna.
The group has helped the people of Santalune City with the fighting Riolu. Will it be able to help Lincoln with his upcoming gym battle? Wait and find out.
