It was just after 10 pm when Scarlett's cell phone rang. It startled her and she jumped. She was half afraid that she was going to get news that Jax was injured or dead.

"Hello," Scarlett said. Her voice sounded high and nervous.

"Hey, baby, what are you wearing?" a voice asked.

Scarlett was just about to end the call when she detected something familiar in the voice. It was Jax trying to disguise his voice.

"What are you some kind of pervert?" she demanded.

"All men are. Come on, tell me are you wearing little lace . . ."

"You better knock this off," Scarlett interrupted tartly, "or I'll tell my boyfriend. He's big and strong and he'll kick your ass." She was thinking about the movie Scream when Casey Becker makes the same threat to the mysterious psycho caller at the beginning of the movie.

"You ever think about cheating on your boyfriend?"

"I do more than think about it," Scarlett purred. "I cheat on him all the time."

"We'll be having a talk when I get back. I'll see you in about an hour."

"OK," Scarlett said with an ear to ear smile on her face.

She was incredibly relieved that Jax was OK. It hit her then; he may not be OK. He could be shot and they've just put a bandage on him. She was being silly. Of course he was fine. Being with Jax was going to be full of worry. She was going to have to manage that worry and not give in to it.

"Jax will be here in about an hour," Scarlett told her father and Sack.

Her father raised an eyebrow.

"You sure that was Jax on the phone?"

"He was trying to disguise . . ." Scarlett broke off as her phone rang. She answered noticing it was from the same number.

"Scars, I just wanted to call and let you know everything went OK and I'll be there in about 45 minutes."

"You just told me an hour," Scarlett reminded him.

"This is the first time I called you," Jax said.

"Uh-huh. Jax, the caller ID is the same number."

Jax chuckled.

"Damn, I'm slipping. See you soon."

Jax had a lot to learn about trying to get the upper hand with Scarlett. She still owed him retaliation for depriving her of the Jax melt her bones kisses when he discovered the SpongeBob band-aids on his face and then he'd taken them and done them to one of the guys in his MC.

She had come up with a great way to get back at Jax. Carrying out the plan would be tricky, but it was going funny as hell.
