Chapter 507 Honey

Scarlett wasn't surprised that she hadn't heard from Jax all day Thursday. He was coming by tomorrow to pick her up from her condo, so there wasn't any need for them to talk. She wasn't one of those girls that had a melt down if she didn't hear from her boyfriend every day.

She'd gotten into bed and just put in a DVD to watch while she waited for her pain medication to kick in when her cell phone rang. The second she saw it was Jax, her lips curved into a smile. And then she worried that he was calling to tell her he couldn't get away tomorrow and the smile vanished from her face.

"Hi," Scarlett said.

"What are you wearing?" Jax asked his voice husky.

Scarlett thought it was funny and kind of cute that Jax was trying to disguise his voice when her cell's ID picked up exactly who was making this call.

"Is the obscene caller from last night?" Scarlett asked playing along.

"Yeah. So, what are you wearing?"

"Who says I'm wearing anything?" she demanded tartly. "I'm naked and covered with honey."

"I could help you with that," Jax suggested silkily. "I'll come by and lick it off. No trouble at all."

"Who says someone isn't here doing that right now?"

Jax chuckled.

"You are a bad girl. You sure you don't want me to come over to help with that honey situation?"

"We'll manage, obscene phone caller."

"See you tomorrow. Get lots of sleep, darlin'."

"You get lots of sleep too," Scarlett said.

She was still smiling when she ended the call. The brain part of her knew that it was ridiculous to feel so much happiness over a quick phone call from Jax, but she decided she was just going to go with her emotions. She'd never been in love before and she wasn't going to spoil it with too much thought.

Jax was all she could think about. Surprisingly, she was only a little nervous about being with him for the first time. She'd explained her past and he had always treated her with nothing but tenderness. She was confident that Jax would be a gentle and considerate lover.

Just the thought of being with him made her body heat up and her heart pound. She'd read more than her share of romance novels and always found the overheated heroines and heroes funny. It was just all make believe—a modern fairy tale about love that she never expected to experience because fairy tales modern or not weren't real.

She never planned on falling in love with Jax. She never imagined that he was her type of guy, but he was this tough strong guy, but he showed her that sweet, gentle side that won her heart. Being with Jax felt like the absolute right thing to do at the perfect time.

As the sleeping medication began to make her sleepy, Scarlett felt a little like a kid going to sleep on Christmas Eve only she had a much more adult celebration in mind for tomorrow.
