Chapter 511 Achieving Popularity
Tara received a mixed reception when she returned to . Margaret was definitely cool making Tara wonder why she wasn't happy to have her back on staff. Tara brought in money for the hospital in surgical and consulting fees, so she expected a warmer welcome from her. Dr. Namid was cool towards her too, but he'd never been particularly happy to have her on staff. She didn't get that either. She was a good, competent surgeon with great technique. Maybe it was a jealousy thing because from what she saw of his surgeries, his skills were on the decline. In fact, she wondered if Dr. Namid was all reputation and no substance. Some surgeons were like that. It was disappointing because part of the appeal of coming to St. Thomas was working with him.
There was something strange going on with him. She watched a parade of parents going in to talk to him with their babies. Each consult only lasted fifteen minutes. It wasn't really enough time to review an infant's medical records and explore treatment options with the parents. It didn't make sense to her.
While she'd been gone, Dr. Namid had lost several infants during surgery from what the nurses told her. It wasn't surprising. They were all high risk, low reward surgeries. She didn't understand why he would have even operated on these infants.
Maybe she was losing her mind a little and had watched too many bad mystery shows on TV while she'd been on administrative leave. Still, she was going to keep her eyes open. This wasn't the first time, she'd been suspicious of Dr. Namid.
The good part about returning after she'd been cleared of Kohn's murder was her new found popularity. It seemed like all the nurses and surgical staff wanted to talk to her or have lunch with her. Each had her own story about being in an abusive relationship and they were all supportive almost envious of her killing Kohn.
She didn't talk about it because she didn't want to run the risk that she'd slip up when she told her story. Everyone thought it was because it was too painful. She encouraged them to think that. Now that she'd been cleared in his death, she had no regrets just a happy sense of relief.
It was sad that it seemed being in an abusive relationship was a rite of passage for most women. For the smart and the lucky, it was a one time trip. Too many women developed a pattern and spent their lives going from one abusive relationship to another often dragging children along for the ride.
She vowed that she would never make the mistakes with another man that she had made with Kohn. That was a one time thing. No more abusive relationships in her future.
No relationships in her future for that matter. Eric had done a great job ghosting her. She remembered that time when she found him with Dr. Namid leaving in a car. She'd almost forgotten that. Just another mystery.
Her own bumpy ride since her return to St. Thomas was over though. She'd achieved popularity at least among all the staff of the hospital except with Margaret and Dr. Namid. Everyone had been so kind and supportive.
She wondered what was really going on with Dr. Namid and his consultations and the unnecessary surgeries and the deaths. Maybe she'd even find out about his connection to Eric. There had to be some kind of mystery that needed solving.
