As the sun set on another day in Duelist Kingdom, Sherry sat alone in her room, her fingers trembling as she held Obelisk the Tormentor. The card seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy, sending shivers down her spine.
"I can control this," she whispered to herself, her hot pink hair falling over her face as she hunched over the card. "I have to."
A knock on the door startled her. "Sherry? Are you okay?" King Foxx's voice called from the other side.
Sherry quickly tucked the card away. "I'm fine!" she snapped, more harshly than she intended. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "Sorry, I mean... come in."
King Foxx entered, his purple flannel shirt slightly rumpled from a long day of dueling. His dark purple hair fell into his eyes as he looked at Sherry with concern. "You've been avoiding us all day. What's going on?"
Sherry felt a surge of irritation. "Nothing's going on. Can't I have a moment to myself?"
King Foxx flinched at her tone. "Of course you can. I just... I'm worried about you. We all are."
Sherry stood up abruptly, her grey ripped jeans catching on the edge of the bed. "Well, don't be. I'm perfectly fine. In fact, I've never been better."
As she spoke, her hand unconsciously moved to her pocket where Obelisk lay hidden. King Foxx noticed the movement and frowned.
"Is this about the card?" he asked softly. "Sherry, if it's hurting you-"
"It's not hurting me!" Sherry shouted, her eyes flashing with anger. "It's making me stronger. You're just jealous because I have this power and you don't!"
The moment the words left her mouth, Sherry regretted them. She saw the hurt in King Foxx's eyes and felt a wave of guilt wash over her.
"Foxx, I... I didn't mean that," she said, her voice breaking.
King Foxx took a step towards her, his purple eyes filled with determination. "Sherry, listen to me. This isn't you. The card is changing you. But I know you're stronger than its curse. I know the real you is still in there."
As he spoke, he gently took her hand. The touch seemed to break through the haze of anger and power that had been clouding Sherry's mind. She looked down at their intertwined fingers, then back up at King Foxx's face.
"I'm scared," she admitted in a whisper. "I can feel it trying to take control. But when I'm with you... it's easier to fight it."
King Foxx pulled her into a tight hug. "Then we'll fight it together. You don't have to do this alone, Sherry. I'm here for you. We all are."
In that moment, wrapped in King Foxx's arms, Sherry felt the curse's grip on her mind loosen. She knew it wasn't gone completely, but for now, their love had given her the strength to push it back.
As they stood there, holding each other, neither of them noticed the faint glow coming from Sherry's pocket where Obelisk lay. The battle was far from over, but for now, love had won a small victory against the curse of the Egyptian God Card.
