Chp. 24: The Divide
Team SAFR Residence
At night back at the residence of Team SAFR, The Whitlocks, Teams SAFR, SLAA, Yasu, and Atar were sitting in the living room going over what had happened today.
"Wait, David is alive?! And he's that masked man?!" Athena asked.
"And he was the one who ordered those men to steal those artifacts?" Yasu added.
"And Amethyst went with them? Willingly?" Lloyd asked.
"Yes. That's pretty much how it went," Siavash answered.
"What do we do now? What is David's next move?" Laura asked.
"He's trying to steal the artifacts so that he can use them to liberate Iran," Siavash answered.
"That doesn't sound so bad," Pyke said. "I mean freeing Iran from a tyrannical government. I can understand that."
"But his methods of saving Iran put innocent lives in the crossfire," Athena said.
"Why? What happened?" Arrastra asked.
"We don't know exactly what happened. The only one that had seen what happened was Siavash," Atar answered.
Everyone turned their heads to Siavash.
"Siavash, what happened between you and David?" Arrastra asked.
Siavash stood in silence. He wanted to tell them all what had occurred between him and his best friend, but didn't have the courage to speak. Just then, Mitrandil spoke to Siavash within his head.
"Boy, let me tell them. I now have complete access to your memories, and can understand your concerns, but they must know," he said.
"Do it," Siavash replied.
Siavash's eyes then started to glow silver as Mitrandil took over Siavash's body.
"Siavash has let me take control for a bit. He doesn't have the heart to tell you all what has happened. He is letting me take control since I now have full access to his memories," Mitrandil said.
"Go ahead then," Samuel said.
"It all started when Siavash, David and the others joined with the Angra Corps to ambush an IRGC convoy," Mitrandil began.
Flashback
Tehran, Iran
June 18, 2020
It was early in the morning, as a couple armored trucks were parked on the side of the street with several armed IRGC soldiers standing guard around them. A couple soldiers walk out a door, carrying a box with a White Fang emblem on it over to one of the trucks. Just as they were about to load the box into the truck, a rock suddenly dropped down onto one of the soldier's heads, killing him. The soldiers all looked up to see where the rock came from, but then several people armed with small knives, clubs, and rocks all charged right at the soldiers from out of alleyways and entrances of some of the buildings.
The soldiers began to open fire on their attackers, but as some of them upon being struck quickly got up and charged again. To their shock, the soldiers then realized that these people attacking them all have Aura. Despite the soldiers' attempts to keep their enemies at bay, their attackers eventually overwhelmed the IRGC soldiers as they were all stabbed and beaten to death. Some of the attackers then started stealing the soldiers' weapons and ammunition.
Stepping out of the alleyways all armed with metal pipes, Siavash, David, Mayura, Athena, Yusuf, Atar, and Mitra, with Artaban holding on to her arm, approached the trucks as the rebels surrounded the trucks while cheering and chanting.
"Reinforcements will arrive soon! Let's take what we can and get out of here!" one of the rebels ordered.
Mayura ran over to the White Fang box and opened it up as it was filled with Dust crystals. Siavash grabbed a fire Dust crystal and examined it for a moment before stuffing it into his pocket.
"Me and the White Fang brought a total of six boxes of Dust here. It seems that this might be the only one that hasn't been used or confiscated," she said.
"It's not much, but it can help us out," Atar said. "By the way, what is our resistance called again?"
"We called it the Angra Corps. " Dawood answered.
A gunshot was heard from a distance as everyone turned their heads to see a platoon of IRGC soldiers accompanied by a few armored trucks.
"The reinforcements are already here!" one of the rebels shouted.
Several soldiers, armed with rocket launchers and grenade launchers then started to fire off their rockets and explosive rounds at the rebels sending them all flying onto the road and onto the buildings, including Siavash, Dawood, and the others.
"Fall back!" a rebel shouted.
The Angra Corp rebels all managed to get up and grabbed what they could and started to run away. Athena, Mitra, Artaban, Yusuf, and Atar all ran away alongside the rebels. Dawood stood himself back up, growling in anger as he stared back at the IRGC soldiers opening fire. Siavash grabbed onto Dawood's arm, getting his attention.
"Dawood! We can't stay here! We need to fall back!" Siavash said.
"Siavash is right! There are too many of them! And we have very few weapons!" Mayura added.
Despite wanting to fight back, Dawood reluctantly complied as he, Siavash, and Mayura turned around and started to run away. However they halted to a stop, along with some fellow rebels upon seeing more IRGC soldiers and armored vehicles on the other end of the street.
"Shit!" Mayura cursed.
"They're trying to close us off!" David said.
"At least the others got away," Siavash said, noticing that the rest of his friends were nowhere in sight.
Dawood notices a rifle next to him on the ground and picks it up.
"Looks like we're going to have to kill our way out of here!" Dawood said.
He starts to fire off rounds at the soldiers and manages to hit a couple of them. The soldiers then started shooting at Dawood, Mayura, and Siavash as they ran behind a car for cover. A group of soldiers then approached the car the three were hiding behind with their rifles pointed at them. The soldiers surrounded them as they were yelling at them to surrender themselves.
Dawood tried to shoot at the soldiers, but the rifle in his hands had already run out of ammo. One of the soldiers grabbed Mayura by the arm and pulled her towards him, while a few more soldiers restrained Siavash and Dawood.
"Let go of me!" Mayura shouted.
As she struggles to break free from the soldier's grip, another soldier pulls off her hijab, revealing her leopard ears to everyone.
"She's one of those animal people!" one of the soldiers said.
"Shoot this creature!" another soldier ordered.
The soldier holding onto Mayura roughly throws her to the ground and kicks her in the side of the head, depleting her Aura. Upon seeing this, Dawood furiously breaks himself free from the soldiers' grip before throwing them into a nearby building. He then charged over towards the soldiers around the leopard Faunus as they tried to shoot at him. Dawood grabs a soldier by the throat and then throws him at another soldier. He then punches another soldier into another soldier, sending them both flying into a building.
Siavash, who was still being restrained by a couple soldiers, watched Dawood attack the soldiers for a moment before looking at the two soldiers restraining him. He then stomped his foot onto the foot of one of the two soldiers, making him cry out in pain and clinched onto his foot, forgetting that he had released his grip on Siavash. The boy punches the other soldier in the face knocking him unconscious, before grabbing onto the first soldier's neck before snapping it, killing him.
A soldier was about to shoot at Dawood from behind, but Siavash ran over and snatched the rifle out of his hands and shot him in the face, killing him. Siavash shoots at a couple more soldiers as Dawood Snatches a knife from the last soldier and slits his throat. Mayura finally gets up from the ground as Dawood grabs onto Mayura's wrist.
"Come on!" he said.
Siavash, Dawood, and Mayura ran straight into an alleyway as more IRGC soldiers tried to shoot at them. The three came out from the other side and ran across the street before running into another alleyway to hide in. They panted for a moment as they were catching their breath. Mayura looks up at Dawood.
"Thank you," she said.
Before Dawood could say anything, Mayura wrapped her arms around Dawood and planted a kiss onto his lips. Dawood was at first caught off guard by Mayura's kiss, but then kissed her in return. Siavash looks away from the two with a smile on his face. But then his smile disappears when he sees someone at the end of the alley. An IRGC soldier pointing his gun at Dawood and Mayura.
"No!" Siavash screamed as he raised his gun at the soldier.
Both guns were fired as the soldier dropped to the ground. Dawood and Mayura stood in silence for a moment before Mayura slumped over onto him. As Dawwod held on to Mayura, he noticed a gunshot wound on her back.
"Mayura?" Dawood spoke.
Mayura gave no response as Dawood looked into her eyes and saw no life in them. Siavash approached and placed two fingers onto her neck to check her pulse, but found nothing. Siavash looked up at his friend with a broken expression.
"I'm sorry, Dawood. She's gone."
Dawood looked back down at Mayura as tears started to run down his cheeks.
"No... No. No. No! No! No! NO!" Dawood screamed with a broken voice.
His cries were cut short when he heard the sound of groaning at the end of the alleyway. The two boys turned their heads to see the soldier was still alive and was trying to crawl away. Dawood gently laid Mayura's body on the ground as his heartbroken expression slowly turned to furious anger, while he turned his attention to the wounded soldier.
Dawood gave an enraged scream as he charged over towards the wounded soldier. He pins the soldier to the ground as Dawood gave out several punches to him. He then noticed a knife on him and then he pulls it out. Dawood pulled off the soldier's vest and then carved his torso open with the knife, making the soldier scream in pain and agony. He then pulled out the soldiers' intestines as the soldier continued screaming in pain, while pleading for mercy. Dawood plunged his fingers into the soldiers eyes and ripped them out of its sockets.
Siavash watched in horror and nearly threw up upon witnessing Dawood torture the soldier. Dawood plunges the knife into the soldier's crotch as the soldier screams once more. Dawood stood himself panting as he looked down at the soldier who was barely alive, giving out quiet whimpers and cries. He notices a few grenades on his waist and takes them, and then picks up the soldier's rifle.
Siavash approaches Dawood with slight caution, as his friend peers his head out in the alleyway and spotted a small group of IRGC soldiers patrolling the street with some civilians stepping out of their way.
"Dawood... are you... alright?" Siavash asked.
"They'll pay. They're all gonna pay," Dawood growled.
He pulled out the pin from one of the grenades before throwing it at the group of soldiers. The grenade explodes killing the soldiers in the blast. He pulls out two more pins of the other two grenades before throwing them out into the street. The grenades exploded as several bystanders were killed in the blast. The people all screamed and fled in terror as Siavash watched in shock at what his friend was doing. He stepped up in front of Dawood and grabbed onto his shoulders.
"Dawood, what are you doing?!" he asked.
"Doing what should have been done a long time ago!" Dawood answered.
"But you're killing innocent bystanders!" Siavash retorted.
"They did nothing but let our lives go to shit! They are just as responsible as the government! They need to pay for their crimes! Don't you see that?!" Dawood yelled.
"I know you're upset about Mayura's death, but do you think Mayura would want you to do all of this?!" Siavash asked.
"I'm avenging her death!" Dawood screamed.
"You're becoming just like the government by doing all of this! Probably even worse with what you did to that soldier, who is still alive by the way! Please, don't be like them!" Siavash said.
Dawood was shocked to hear his friend compare him to the government and the soldiers as his expression then turned to anger.
"Siavash... get out of my way," Dawood growled.
"Dawood, please listen-" Siavash gets cut off as Dawood punches him to the ground.
Dawood began shooting at the people that were running and screaming, killing a few in the process. Siavash quickly gets up and tackles Dawood to the ground.
"Stop this!" Siavash yelled.
Dawood punches Siavash in the face and rolled himself onto his friend and began to strangle him.
"Why do you side with these monsters?!" Dawood screamed.
Siavash reaches into his pocket with his left hand and pulls out the fire Dust crystal he had taken earlier. He then lunged the Dust into the right side of Dawood's face as it then exploded upon impact, sending both of them flying away from each other. Siavash screamed in pain as he looked down to see his left hand was now heavily scarred and burned.
He slowly stood himself back up and saw Dawood lying motionless face down on the ground. He ran over and knelt down to his friend and turned him over on his back. Siavash backed away in horror upon seeing Dawood's face as the left side of it was burnt and scarred over with his left eye missing. Siavash looked down at his hands and back at Dawood as tears streamed out from his eyes. He gets back up looking down at Dawood one last time before turning around and running away from the scene.
Several minutes had passed as Siavash was looking for his friends. Just then, he heard a familiar voice just up ahead.
"Siavash!" Yusuf called out to him.
He looked up to see Athena, Mitra, Artaban, Yusuf, and Atar running up to him. As they did, they noticed his burnt hand and gasped in horror.
"Siavash, what happened?" Athena asked.
"What happened? And what's that smell?" Artabad asked.
"Siavash's hand is burnt," Mitra answered, making hime gasp in shock.
"Where's Dawood? Where's Mayura?" Atar asked.
Siavash flinched upon being asked that question, but then gave his answer.
"They're gone. They're not coming back," Siavash answered.
"What?!" Mitra asked as she and the others looked stunned upon hearing Siavash's answer.
"What do we do now?" Yusuf asked.
"We can't stay here anymore. We must leave as soon as possible," Siavash answered.
"But, Siavash-" Athena tried to speak.
"There's nothing left for us here anymore. We have to make a run for the border now, before the IRGC finds us," Siavash said.
As much as they wanted to protest, they knew he was right. If they do stay, they'll either be killed, or get captured and face torture and experimentation. They all then ran down the street and began to make a break for the border.
Flashback Ends
"And that was the last Siavash had seen of David," Mitrandil finished.
Everyone in the room stood in silence. They were not sure on how to respond to the answers given to them. Mitrandil would then speak up again.
"Please take heed, Siavash did what he could to stop David's rampage as best as he could after Mayura was killed, but in the end was given no choice. And that was the last thing he wanted to do because he was his friend, and wanted to save David from his own rage," he explained.
"Well it seems like he still has it," Asher said.
"I'm giving Siavash control once more," Mitrandil said.
Siavash's eyes stopped glowing as he is now in control again.
"Siavash, are you doing okay?" Laura asked.
"I need to take a walk," Siavash replied.
He walked past everyone and left the room. They all watched him leave as they heard the front door open and close as Siavash had now left the house.
"Will he be okay?" Lloyd asked.
"Give him some time to himself. He's been through a lot today," Samuel answered.
Later out in the streets of the city, Siavash wanders around by himself on a busy street with people going about their business. He had thoughts leading back to him and David before Remnant's merging with Earth. He wished things turned out differently then what they are now. He suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder from behind. Siavash turned around and was surprised to see that it was Amethyst.
"Hey, Siavash," she greeted with a small wave.
Siavash quickly takes a step back and draws out Simorgh Wings and points it at Amethyst.
"What the hell are you doing here?" he asked.
"I'm just here to talk," Amethyst answered.
"Why?" Siavash asked.
"It's about why I joined Lysander. Or David," Amethyst answered.
Siavash kept his weapon pointed at Amethyst for a moment before slowly lowering it down, but still kept himself on guard.
"Talk."
"Siavash, do you know why I wanted to become a Huntress? I wanted to help people. I mean genuinely help people. I lived in a small village where all the Huntsmen that came by became Huntsmen for fame, glory, attention, and Lien. Especially the Lien. There was one time that a tribe of bandits raided our village and this Huntsman that had shown up a day prior refused to fight them off because in his words 'we didn't pay him enough.'" Amethyst explained.
Siavash listened to Amethyst wondering where this was going as Amethyst continued.
"Things only got worse when the Grimm showed up due to all the negative emotions we were having from the bandits' raid. And you know what the Huntsman did? He ran away. He made no effort to protect us and left us all to die. All because we didn't pay him enough. Many lives were lost that day, and many more would have been lost if it hadn't been for several militia men calling themselves the JSDF showing up. We were very thankful to them."
Siavash was disgusted with the Huntsman that ran away and wondered how he even became a Huntsman to begin with. He continues to listen to Amethyst.
"My village grew an immense hatred for all Huntsmen that day, and any who would show up, we would drive them away, even going as far as to attack them. But I wanted to become a Huntress because I didn't just want to help people, and restore people's faith in Huntsmen and Huntresses, but I also wanted to take down people like that Huntsman that refused to protect my village. It was something David understood."
Siavash took in all this information given to was a little worried about Amethyst's way of wanting to get back at people like the Huntsman that didn't protect her village.
"The last bit of information could lead you down a very dangerous path. It's the same one that David walked down," he said.
"But like I said, I only wanted to help and protect people," Amethyst said.
"So why did you come back?" Siavash asked.
"I just want your understanding. I don't expect you to forgive me for what I have done. Our methods on how to approach the situations we face may differ, but my love for you hasn't changed," Amethyst answered. "I'm not ready to face the others yet, but I just need your company at the very least."
Siavash stares at Amethyst for a moment before putting his weapon away.
"Alright," he replied.
"I rented a room at an Inn that we can stay at for the night," Amethyst said.
"Lead the way, then," Siavash said.
Amethyst then walks down the sidewalk as Siavash follows behind her.
Repose Inn
Later at a place called Repose Inn Amethyst and Siavash had just stepped inside of a guest room where inside were a couple of queen sized beds, a wooden nightstand in between the beds, a desk with a chair in the far corner of the room, a dress right next to the desk, a window at the far side of the room, and a doorway that led to a bathroom.
Amethyst opens the door to the bathroom while facing Siavash.
"I'll be out of the bathroom in a minute," Amethyst said as she then stepped into the bathroom and closed the door behind her.
Siavash walked over to one of the beds and sat down onto it as he pulled out his Scroll. He then texted a message to Athena.
"I'm spending the night at an Inn. I'll see you guys in the morning."
Siavash sends the message before stuffing his Scroll back into his pocket. He then leans over to close up the curtains to the windows. Siavash heard the bathroom door open and turned his head around. His eyes widened upon seeing Amethyst in her underwear. He stood up off the bed and slowly approached Amethyst.
"Uhhhh... Amethyst? What are you do-" Amethyst placed her finger on Siavash's lips, silencing him.
"Are you just going to stand here and ask questions or are you gonna take me right here, right now?" Amethyst asked with a smirk.
