A/N: This had been sitting in my drafts for a good portion of 2024 now so I decided to post this little drabble now. I've never played either Mega Man X or Fatal Frame but I've seen gameplay of both series before. Sucks that Yuri Kozukata doesn't have her own tag yet.
Yuri Kozukata stood on the ship of the Rainbow Cruise stage as it sailed over the vibrant landscape of verdant hills and azure lakes. Instead of using her trusty Camera Obscura that she carried with her at all times, Yuri had a different camera that she used to take pictures of the stage with. It had become something of a hobby of hers ever since she had joined Smash as an Assist Trophy, whenever she wasn't summoned to the battlefield to help whoever called her. Yuri would take pictures of the stages(some of which were more beautiful than others), the fighters, other Assist Trophies and the Hands themselves before compiling them all into a photo album that she kept in her room. Some fighters and Assist Trophies had disliked getting their picture taken but complied regardless via Yuri's request. It was something of a memento to remember her time here in Smash including some selfies that she personally took.
Yuri was so busy putting her camera to work that she almost didn't notice anyone else there with her. Thanks to Yuri's Sixth Sense, she was somehow able to detect the nearby presence behind her. There was the soft tap of boots on wood that made Yuri turn around to see none other than Zero walking through here in casual attire. Usually he would keep his armor on when he was summoned, or sometimes dressed like a civilian on his off days. If it weren't for his robotic nature, she would have mistook him for a normal looking human, aside from the synthetic ankle length hair and the metal parts where his ears should be.
"Hello, Zero-san," Yuri greeted making the android acknowledge her.
"Hey, Yuri. Taking pictures again as usual?"
"Yep. I'm adding more to my photo album."
Zero stood a bit away and observed the landscape, the wind blowing his long ponytail around. He could see why some of the other Assist Trophies and Smashers came here a lot to enjoy the beauty of this stage, as well as to relax and hang out or otherwise sort their thoughts out alone. No doubt that X would also appreciate this place and some of the other stages too had he been invited but oh well. He was one of those that would come to the Rainbow Cruise stage to be alone with his thoughts or with someone else as long as they didn't bother him and didn't mind their company.
Zero leaned up against the ship's mast while Yuri took pictures, including the little village on the high mountain bluff which boggled her. Yuri also remembered that there were mountain villages back in Japan that she visited previously but at least they had ways to get to them. This one didn't by the looks of it. There were no staircases, ladders, ropes or even cave entrances to access that little isolated village. She wondered how a group of people managed to build a village on top of a bluff that was high off the ground level with no possible way to get up there, but that was a question that was probably better left unanswered.
Yuri took a few steps forward to get a closer look at the hills, but ended up stepping a bit to close to the edge of the deck. Unfortunately, she lost her footing to a rogue gust of wind and eventually fell from the ship. Upon hearing her startled yelp did the Maverick Hunter take action before grabbing her arm and pulling her back to safety.
"That was close," Zero said. "Are you ok, Yuri?"
Yuri's face turned a pale shade of red before she nodded, "Y-Yes, thank you, Zero-san."
"No problem. Just be careful from now on alright."
"Okay."
