Chapter Three: Stories of the Past

The quiet hum of the TV filled the living room as Alex sat on the couch, Guillaumon sprawled out beside him, snacking on a loaf of bread his dad had baked earlier. Takato stood at the kitchen counter, absentmindedly drying a plate. Alex glanced at him, his mind swirling with questions he'd never thought to ask until now.

"Hey, Dad?" Alex began, breaking the silence.

Takato looked up, smiling softly. "Yeah, Alex?"

Alex hesitated, running his fingers over his Digivice. "How did you… you know… meet Rika and Henry? You've told me about Guilmon and your adventures, but not much about them."

Takato chuckled, setting the plate down and walking over to the couch. He ruffled Alex's hair before sitting down beside him. "I guess I haven't really talked about that, huh? Well, it's a long story, but I think you'll like it."

Guillaumon perked up, his tail wagging. "Storytime? I want to hear this too!"

Takato laughed, leaning back into the couch. "Alright, where to start…?"

--

"It all began with the Digimon cards," Takato said, his voice taking on a nostalgic tone. "I was just an ordinary kid back then—spending my days playing the card game with my friends, doodling Digimon in my sketchbook. I never imagined that one of my drawings would actually come to life."

"That's how you created Guillaumon, right?" Alex asked, his curiosity growing.

"Yeah," Takato said, glancing fondly at Guillaumon. "It was a miracle, honestly. But back then, I didn't have any idea how to handle a Digimon. That's when I met Henry."

"Henry?" Alex leaned forward, eager to hear more.

Takato nodded. "Henry was calm, level-headed, and way more experienced than I was. His partner, Terriermon, had been with him for a while, so he knew how to handle things when Digimon started appearing in the real world. He helped me understand what it meant to be a Tamer and taught me a lot about responsibility."

"And Rika?" Alex pressed, intrigued by the connection between his dad and the fiery, independent Tamer he'd only heard about in passing.

Takato's expression softened. "Rika was… different. At first, she saw Digimon as nothing more than tools for battle. She was competitive, strong-willed, and didn't trust anyone. But over time, she opened up. Her partner, Renamon, was a big part of that. Renamon taught her that being a Tamer wasn't just about winning battles—it was about trust and friendship."

"So, the three of you just… teamed up?" Alex asked, trying to picture the dynamic between his dad, Henry, and Rika.

"It wasn't that simple," Takato admitted. "We were all so different. Henry was the calm mediator, Rika was the fierce warrior, and I… well, I was just trying to keep up most of the time. But when the Digital World was in danger, we came together. We didn't have a choice. We had to protect both worlds."

"Was it scary?" Alex asked, his voice quieter now.

Takato nodded. "Terrifying. But we had each other. That made all the difference."

Guillaumon, who had been listening intently, tilted his head. "It sounds like you were a great team, Takato!"

Takato smiled. "We were. And now, it's your turn, Alex. You've got Brady and David by your side, just like I had Henry and Rika. And you've got Guillaumon, just like I did. You're going to do great things—I can feel it."

Alex looked down at his Digivice, a mix of pride and determination filling him. "I hope so, Dad. I really do."

Takato placed a hand on Alex's shoulder. "You've got this, Alex. Just remember: being a Tamer isn't about fighting alone. It's about trusting your Digimon, working with your team, and never giving up."

Alex nodded, a small smile forming on his lips. "Thanks, Dad. I'll do my best."

As the conversation faded, Alex felt a newfound sense of purpose. He wasn't just following in his father's footsteps—he was forging his own path. And with Guillaumon by his side, he was ready for whatever the Digital World had in store.
