Chapter 20

"I can hear you thinking. You're thinking about that prophecy, aren't you?" Fiyero asked as they laid in bed. She had told him what Mopsi and Popsi had found out at dinner that evening. The green woman now stared at the ceiling, unable to sleep.

"Why would there be such a prophecy? Why would the Munchkins believe it?" She asked him.

"Because Mombey wanted them to focus their hate on you again. It was easy to do. My guess is that she knew about the prophecy and probably wanted to use it to her advantage. Ugabu hides the Clock to prevent any prophecy from coming true. She cared for poor Mr. Boss. Mombey caused nothing but death and destruction in her wake. Ugabu, for all her faults, literally died stopping her and her magic for the good of Oz," Fiyero turned onto his side to face his wife to be.

"Why would I have been born inside the clock?" Elphaba could not understand why her religiously rigid father would allow for her to be born inside the idol of another religion.

"I'm not sure that you were. Oz knows that your father would not have made a note of that. I can't imagine anyone who helped your mother give birth would spill that kind of secret either," he said.

"Nanny might still be alive. She would know," she told him.

"If she survived the trouble in Munchkinland? I mean we have to admit things have been topsy turvy there for a long time," it was Fiyero's way of being gentle. If it had been discovered that Nanny worked for Frex and the former leaders of Munchkinland, that might not have gone well with those who were asking.

"I'll send Mopsi and Popsi to look for her. I know Nanny won't lie to me," Elphaba said.

"Ok, but make sure their story is that it's only as a favor to one of her previous clients. They mention you and it could still be trouble for them. We can't send them into Munchkinland with Gale Force or Flying Monkeys," Fiyero reminded her.

"I'll make sure to cast a protection spell on them," she told him. Fiyero rolled over so he was above her, she felt his weight on her for only a moment as he lifted himself up.

"Look at me," he said to her, and she obliged.

"It doesn't matter what happened back then. What matters is what happens now. You're about to become a godmother," Fiyero told her.

"I can't believe that Timothy and Damla wanted that," she said.

"Why not? We've been like family to them. Technically we are family for Timothy," he said, leaning down, pressing his lips to hers. Elphaba can feel her body temperature rising and her body reacting.

"So, you want to try and make a baby too?" She asked when he pulled away for some oxygen. Fiyero waggled his eyebrows and said,

"We did get interrupted the last time. With any luck, that won't be the case this time."

"Well, you put on all these clothes…" Elphaba teased. Fiyero rolled off of her only to find her rolling on top of him.

"I'll need help with getting mine off," she told him; the weight of her body now pressing down on him. The green woman could feel just what her husband to be was feeling.

"Oh, I think I can figure something out," he promised before reaching down and grabbing the hem of her nightgown. She lifted herself up just enough and soon found her pajama moving up her body. Once it was over her head, her hands went to the waistband of his pajama bottoms while he worked on his own top. Soon enough there was nothing between them.
