After the Black Prom, a comatose Carrie White is recovered from her destroyed residence and placed within a suspended animation chamber where she survives well into the 23rd century.
Eventually, she ends up being transported via starship to the planet of New Texas located 2,000 light-years from Earth. Upon arriving, the ship is ambushed by the Carrion Bunch hoping to plunder whatever it was transporting.
The ship is rocked by a laser blast, damaging the chamber containing Carrie and causing it to malfunction and shut down. This results in the telekinetic slowly waking up.
