Chapter 1: The Beginning

Somewhere over the clouds, there was a place filled with soaring dragons and greens. There, a dragon standing alone in a patch of blossoming flowers. It sighed, soft wind blowing on its hair.
"I do not understand...it has been years, decades, ages…I still can't find them. I wasn't able to take revenge on him. I am sorry everyone…" Xander held back his tears and stared at the sky. It was clean and blue, but it didn't favour him.
Since the war of warriors and the mysterious black evil dragon. I seek strength, a true power. And I would have my revenge...and peace.
When I woke up again, I ended up in this place, the path to my old home was gone.
Xander clenched his fist and sighed. "But for that day to come…I am still too weak now."
"No. I would definitely become stronger! Just wait for me and I will. One day, I will become the strongest warrior ever in my land." He shouted at the sky.
I have heard there is a new connected world to our world, which allows monsters and humans to live in harmony. To do so I need a strong human buddy from another world to help me gain my strengths.
With something called "Buddyfight"
In a dark and black void. A strange voice echoed into the ears. It was like someone begging.
Please...please wake up…
Please come back…I beg you...don't leave me alone…
"What do you mean? I am right here!"
The mist disappeared and transformed into a card.
"Huh? A card?! Wait! Don't go away!"
"NO-"
He dreamed of himself falling into darkness. Then he found himself staring at the ceiling. A warm light shined on the short brown-haired boy's face. Soon, a noisy clock in his phone started to ring on him. He turned around and slammed on it immediately.
"I am having bad dreams again…" He yawned, scratched his messy hair and rubbed his blue eyes.
The next second he noticed that the clock had stopped and went straight up like a ruler.
"Oh- OH CRAP!" A scream from nowhere can be heard even miles away.
So he hurried up to brush his teeth, with bubbles flowing out in corners, ate his easy breakfast and ran to school at the speed of light.
How careless am I?! I can't let my first day be late like this!
Today is my first time transferring to the school - Aibo Academy. I was told it is a school that trained numerous Buddyfight geniuses. I don't know whether I am one of them. It is weird to be invited by them to study buddyology, even though I do not even know what it is.
Clock…checked. Right on time!
Morihito gasped heavily and calmed his breath when he arrived at the door with the sign "2C" outside. He opened the door softly and went inside the classroom in a rush of faith. When he stepped inside, everyone stared at Morihito and started murmuring.
"And the new student…he is here! Please introduce yourself, Morihito."
Morihito took a deep breath after the teacher's words, walking to the middle of attention.
"Well hah…my name is Amari Morihito. Nice to meet you and I look forward to joining you all this year." Morihito appeared to be a little nervous but he put on a smile and giggled.
"Everyone please welcome our new transfer student! Hope you get along with your new classmates this year!" The teacher clapped her hands and after a few seconds, the class followed.
"Alright class, you know we are going to have a short field trip about the production of Buddyfight cards today. Please get ready and line up outside!" The teacher said the class concentrated on the field trip.
"Woahhh field trip! Yes!"
"Let's go let's go!"
The classmates rushed outside one by one, leaving Morihito confused about what to do, but he followed them anyway.
"Okay…?" Morihito gleamed his eyes in hesitation. "I guess I am going after them."
Nevertheless, there is a voice whispering behind him without his notice. He gripped his fists in laughter and stretched his fingers.
"A new face, hm? Poor kid..you don't know who is the boss here..."
As the class arrived at the shopping mall and headed to a card shop. The teacher made an announcement that made everyone go wild.
"Lucky to you all! The card shop owner provides a free card pack sample for our class today! Please thank…!"
"Yo! No freaking way!"
"Hurray!"
As the class celebrated before the teacher even finished her words, everyone rushed to grab the card sample on the desk, creating a huge mess in the shop. The class teacher was embarrassed because of how they acted. The teacher fixed her glasses and showed a dark face.
"Kids are surely energetic these days…haha." The owner made a good laugh.
"Don't worry, I will 'educate' them well when they are back." She held herself as if the veins were boiling. The shop owner's face was covered in cold sweat.
The classmates gathered and opened their card packs in excitement.
"Hey look! I got the Space Dragon Emperor, Galiazond!"
"No way! Let me see that" Another boy tried to grab the card.
"Nah, it is mine." He frowned.
"Oh c'mon…"
Morihito took a glance at the classmates' cards pulled from the card packs, observing the classmates behind them.
Why do they look so familiar? Aren't those the cards I saw in the dream? Maybe I can solve my dream with this…
Suddenly, someone caught Morihito's arms brutally and pushed him to the corner. He fell to the floor and looked up.
What? Who was that?!
"What's wrong…?!" Morihito tried to scream but a boy in spiky blond hair covered his mouth.
"Hah, that's much easier than I thought. You're just pathetic. Now, this card pack belongs to me!"
Who is this guy?! And he just stole my card pack!
The way to find out my dreams…no! I must not lose it!
Morihito struggled in Kenji's arms but he couldn't escape. He tried to push away Kenji but he couldn't.
"You think you can beat me just by that?" Kenji laughed at him.
I think I am losing my breath…
Surprisingly, the card pack shined and flew away from Kenji's hand in a blow of wind. It flew over the shop and went all the way down to the stage. Morihito and Kenji rushed out of the shop and looked down. They forgot their fight previously.
"Wait, that's mine!" Kenji roared and kicked Morihito to the fences.
"What…?" Morihito panted and barely got up from the floor. He followed Kenji down the stairs to the stage. He found out that he stood still near the glowing card pack.
"No way...could this be! A Buddy Monster?!"
A Buddy Monster is a unique type of monster which can be buddies with human fighters in Buddyfight. This is considered rare among buddyfighters.
It is generating something...strong! Morihito blocked his arms.
"AHHHH!" Both of them screamed after the light filled the room.
To their surprises, a gleaming light fell on the monster inside the shadow. It is clear that it is a huge orange dragon with blue eyes, facing Morihito and Kenji. The longsword shimmered after the cape being blown softly, sparkled on his back.
Now, let me see.
Are you the human that I am finding?
"I am Ancient Force Protector Dragon, Xander. You humans, please tell me your name."
"Huh…?" Morihito and Kenji looked at each other for a while.
"Hey my new buddy, I am your master Kenji!" Shouted Kenji.
"What?! This guy stole my card pack! That…shouldn't it be me?"
"I already told you this card pack is mine!" Kenji argued. "Now I am the real owner of this card."
"That does not make any sense!" Morihito shouted in worry.
Is this human…is my buddy? He glanced at Morihito.
I should test him by myself.
"Then prove yourself you are the right one." Xander interrupted them.
"Huh?" Morihito pointed at himself.
"Are you afraid to fight me with Buddyfight? Don't make me laugh! I will definitely win against a newbie like you!" Kenji mocked Morihito. Then he whispered in his ears. "And finally I will have a buddy monster. Unlike you, hah!"
"Humans, fight to prove yourself. Prove yourself to be worthy to be my buddy in Buddyfight."
"How...? I don't even know how to play. I don't have cards!" Morihito said in a huge worry. "I can't…"
"I will lend you my friends for this fight. What do you say?"
"Are you gonna give up before you try it?"
Give up?
If I do not try I may lose my only opportunity to find my dream! I must step forward if I want to find out. I have no choice.
"Alright. I will give it a try."
"Hurry up! Come on the stage and we will start the fight, loser! Your buddy will be mine!" Kenji rushed to the stage.
Morihito arrived on the stage and was startled.
Uh oh. I think I do not know how to play this at all.
Kenji luminized and he saw Morihito stunned like a rock.
What's his problem, just luminize! Don't tell me he doesn't know how to!
Kenji shouted "Danger world! Buddy Monster Armorknight Bahamut"
"Okay…Ancient World!" Morihito said.
Xander shouted at Morihito slightly irritatingly. "Stupid human! I am from Dragon World, not Ancient World! Read the cards carefully!"
"Huh? Ok! It is Dragon World, not Ancient World." Morihito shouted. While Kenji couldn't hold his laugh.
Just before the fight starts I already messed up? This is not a good sign.
"Buddyfight!"

A monster in iron armour with two giant tiger teeth approached Morihito with a spiked dark mace.
This looks dangerous…

"Ahh!" He was shocked at first, then he turned away to see the life counter.
It just decreased? 8? What does that mean?
He carefully read the floating screen and game board near him.
The bottom is 0…does that mean I will lose if I lose all the points?
"My turn ends," Kenji said.
Morihito stared at Kenji's field.
Kenji uses a technique to draw, and his energy card increases...but he also loses one card in his hand! Maybe I should follow as he did to get more of that energy for better use.
"Hurry up, I don't have all day! Just make your move already!" Kenji shouted as he saw Morihito frozen in there.
"Alright…! My turn! Draw, charge and draw!" Morihito said.

Morihito looked at his cards carefully.
These cards have different types. Spell, monster? I think Kenji used the "monster" card. Let's try to call it out.
At that moment Morihito wanted to call the monster but he noticed something.
Wait. There is a monster in Kenji's centre, and it seems to protect Kenji. It seems strong, one probably won't be able to take it down by itself.
The left and right side is also empty…What if I call up two or three monsters?
There are also a few different colours in the numbers on the cards. Red, Blue, yellow and white. What are these? My health still has 8, I can take some risks to test them out.

Power and defence? He must be referring to that monster. Morihito started to understand how the game works.
Tiger roared and broke into card pieces.
He did it again! Morihito couldn't believe his eyes.

Kenji destroyed Great Treasure, Pirate Dragon with Armorknight Eagle. Pirate Dragon bounced on the ground and returned after a green card piece behind him. Kenji was surprised by it.
Pirate Dragon comes back on the field after being destroyed. It might be his ability "soulguard". But I am in a very bad situation! Morihito thought.
"Armorknight Tiger, destroy him!" Kenji shouted. The heavily armoured Tiger stabbed the tiny blue dragon with its claws. At that moment, Morihito understood how it felt when a monster was destroyed - they never came back.
But there was no time for him to digest what happened. Kenji attacked Morihito with the remaining monster. It charged its weapon in the purple beam. Then Morihito noticed and blocked the lasers.
'I cast! Green Dragon Shield! Morihito blocked Armorknight Bahamut's attack.

It is good that I didn't take much damage, but how am I able to defeat the huge monster in his centre?
Oh right! He mentioned his monster has power, defence and critical! I guess Brave Fist, Red Dragon gave three damage to Kenji, it may be his critical. Assume that the red numbers and blue numbers are power and defence...I don't have any monster able to defeat him!
Maybe...I can attack with one or more monsters?
"Hey idiot, are you done at daydreaming?" Kenji shouted.
"Fatty, why didn't you attack me with two monsters together in your last turn?" Morihito said.
"Who's fat?! My name is Kenji! I don't need to attack a little fry like you with all my monsters!" Kenji was annoyed.
"I see! You can attack with as many monsters as you want when fighting your target! Thank you, Kenji." Morihito said with excitement.
"Damn it! How dare you trick me, you idiot?" Kenji shouted at Morihito angrily.
"I call Magic Archer, Wind Dragon to the left!" Morihito commanded.

The monster in red skin owned a huge axe and a long spear in his upper hands, with a sword that had a similar appearance to a chainsaw and mace within his other two hands.
Here comes another huge and dangerous monster! Morihito thought.

"Tsk…"Kenji frowned.
"How about this? Destructive Sky Subjugator, Tyrant Asura attacks that monster in the centre!'
The red giant landed his mace and broke the barrier. Then he slashed at Frost Dragon with his sword and cropped him off with an axe.
"Sorry, I am no longer able to protect you…" The white dragon said softly.
"Thank you, Silver Frost Dragon…you did your best."

Morihito dropped one of his hand cards.
"Drago blade allows me to attack one more time when I drop a hand card. I think…I can still attack six more times."
"You're gonna be kidding me…SIX times?! What?!" Kenji said in shock.
"NOO! There is no way I can lose to a newbie like YOU!"
He looked at the life counter and empty hands with fear. Gazing back at Morihito, feels like he is facing a menacing monster.
"DAMN IT! You know you're gonna regret this!" Kenji shouted through his throat.
Morihito moved the card of Drago blade on the Virtual Reality game board and wielded his blade.
I don't know what the future is waiting for me...but with this...I feel like I can break through any challenge!
"Take this! Ultimate Force, Infinite Drago SLASHHH!'
Morihito used the full force of his body and slashed through Kenji, then rushed behind him.
"AUGHHHHH!"
Xander looked at Morihito with a jaw-dropped face.
This kid is totally out of my expectations! How incredible! But what was the force he used? Could it be…?
"I win…? I can't believe I just won!" Morihito said with his sparkling eyes.
"Bastard! You will pay back all these one day! Watch out for that!" Kenji hollered at Morihito and everyone in the mall stared at him and began murmuring.
"Oh...okay." Morihito watched Kenji run away, but he was still focusing on the latest battle.
'Did I do well? Are we now buddies?' Morihito looked at Xander.
"You have proven well enough, young human, you are worthy to become my buddy. But first, answer my questions." Xander said seriously.
What's wrong? I have proved myself in a battle. But it seems he isn't so happy about it.
"Where did you get that force? There is no such card in the deck I gave you."
Is he referring to Drago Blade?
"What force?"
"That power, why is it in your hand?" Xander questioned closely and looked at Morihito seriously.
"I have no idea! But I feel it is something very important to me…I think it belongs to me."
Weird. Why can't I remember anything related to this?
"Maybe I am wrong." He turned around and sighed.
"So are you now my Buddy monster? Xander?"
"Please call me Ancient Force Protector Dragon, Xander."
"But that's too long! Don't you think so? Xander?"
"Call me what I told you so, stupid human!"
"What are you so mad about? Morihito, that's my name, too."
"I don't care what you said! Call me…" Suddenly. His whole body shrunk to a small size. In terms, it is called "chibi form".
"Wait. WHAT? Why do I become so tiny? Hey, you! Answer me!"
"Ah hahaha...!" Morihito never thought a huge dragon would care about such a small thing. Then he burst out laughing when Xander turned to the small dragon.
"Ughhhh!" Xander shouted miserably.
Morihito returned home with Xander after school.
"So this is your house? How about the others…" Xander asked.
"My parents? They are not always at home. They always work in the laboratory and seldom return. They haven't been back for years, but I still receive money for living. Well, I have gotten used to that. Anyways Xander, what do you want for dinner?" Morihito asked.
"I am not hungry at all!" He said while his stomach shouted.
"I guess…" And he fell to the ground. "I am…so hungry." Then his stomach shouted again.
A few moments later, Morihito put a bowl of ramen in front of Xander.
He called this thing 'ramen'? It smells so great! No, it must taste very bad! I will just take a bite.
"Mmmmm!"
This smell…such brilliant taste…and this warm feeling in my chest! The feeling of hope filled me!
"What's wrong Xander? Did I add too much sauce?" Morihito questioned.
"MmmmmhHH!"
The juicy flavour in my mouth, is so delightful! Incredible! Such a masterpiece can't be described by words!
"Too salty?"
No Xander, what are you thinking? You can't trust this human yet!
"UMMMMMmhhHHH!" The noise got louder after he took another bite.
Is this…heaven? There is an angel around me…
Farewell, Xander… Xander imagined himself being in heaven.
"So it is too salty, right? Do you want me to add some water?"
"MMMMMHHHH!" He ate the whole bowl rapidly and drank all the soup in a second.
"Huh?"
"DELICIOUS! I want MORE! AAA...UMUMUMU"
Then he couldn't wait to eat Morihito's bowl which is filled with ramen. Well, it 'was'.
"My ramen!" Morihito gasped.
Then the rest in the kitchen were eaten by Xander.
"No dinner for tonight…" Morihito sighed in a weak voice.
"Ah, I am so...full now…" and he yawned "...tired."
Xander closed his eyes and snored.
He must be really tired.
A while later after Morihito finished the wash-up. Morihito saw Xander sleeping calmly and covered him with his jacket. He turned on his phone and started typing text:
"Hey, Mum and Dad. How have you been? I knew that you must be very busy and unable to read my message…"
Morihito was the only one texting in the group, but his parents never replied. The group shows all of Morihito's text.
"Guess what? I made a buddy today on the first day of my new school. He is a very huge monster! Irritable…"
Morihito looked at Xander snored and continued.
"…but he is adorable inside so don't worry. Many things happened today. Love you two. Please reply soon!"
Morihito closed the chat.
"Mum...dad...where are you? Why are you still not coming back?"
"Mini-Buddyfight Talk!"
