Hajime Gekitsuden
Chapter 9: Seek for the hermit~ Arc1: Start of a new journey
One evening, as they strolled through the quiet outskirts of the village, the weight of their secrets pressed heavily on their shoulders. The silence stretched until Satoru finally broke it.
"Haji, I can't stop thinking about what we found. The village we admired—it's hiding so much darkness," he said, his voice tinged with unease.
Hajime nodded, his gaze fixed on the path ahead.
"It's unsettling, Satoru. The more we uncover, the more it feels like we're standing on the edge of something far bigger than ourselves."
Satoru kicked a pebble along the dirt path, frustration evident in his every movement. "But what do we do now? We can't trust anyone—not completely."
Hajime considered his friend's words before responding. "We need allies—people outside the village's influence. Someone who can offer a fresh perspective, free from the shadows that cloud Konoha."
"But who? Everyone's connected to the village in some way," Satoru argued.
Hajime's eyes lit up as an idea struck him. "What about Jiraiya, the hermit who visits sometimes? He's not directly tied to Konoha, and he's known for challenging the status quo."
Satoru looked skeptical. "Jiraiya? The legendary Sannin? He's not exactly approachable."
"True, but he's critical of the village's practices. If anyone can give us an outsider's perspective, it's him," Hajime reasoned.
Satoru sighed, still unconvinced. "It's a long shot, but we don't have many options—and time isn't on our side. How do we even find him?"
Hajime smirked. "Well, I've heard he has a soft spot for hot springs."
Satoru chuckled despite himself. "So, we're supposed to check every hot spring in the Land of Fire? Is he even in Konoha right now?"
Before Hajime could reply, a voice rang out from behind them. "Oh, he's in the village."
They turned to see Hikari, Satoru's older sister, standing with her arms crossed and an amused glint in her eyes. "I just got word that someone with long silver hair and a red coat snuck into Tamamori Hot Springs this evening," she added, her tone sharp.
Hikari studied the two boys like a hawk. "Why are you looking for him anyway?" she asked, suspicion evident in her voice.
Satoru stammered, "Oh, uh… we just wanted to meet one of Konoha's legendary Sannin, that's all!"
"I see…" Hikari said, her expression unreadable as she opened the front door. Then, turning to Hajime, she added, "Would you like to stay for dinner?"
Hajime shook his head quickly. "No, thank you, Hikari-san. I promised I'd be home for dinner." With that, he dashed away, leaving Satoru behind.
The decision made, the two friends resolved to seek out Jiraiya the next day. Rumors suggested the hermit frequented the hot springs near the village during his visits.
As the morning sun warmed the misty air, they approached the springs, steam curling above the natural pools. Near the edge of the water, they spotted a man with a shock of white hair and a distinctive red coat.
Hajime took a deep breath, mustering his courage, and stepped forward. "Excuse me, Jiraiya-sama?"
The legendary Sannin turned, his sharp eyes assessing them. "What do you want, kids? I'm not in the mood for small talk."
Hajime hesitated but then decided to be direct. "We're investigating something—a dark secret tied to Konoha. We need someone who isn't influenced by the village's politics. Someone like you."
Jiraiya raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued. "Dark secret, huh? You're just kids. What could you possibly know?"
Satoru stepped forward, his voice steady despite the tension. "More than you think, Jiraiya-sama. The Uchiha massacre is just the tip of the iceberg. There's a web of conspiracies festering in Konoha, and we need your help to uncover the truth."
Jiraiya studied them, his expression unreadable. Finally, he smirked. "You've got guts, I'll give you that. But why should I get involved? What's in it for me?"
Hajime leaned forward, his voice firm. "The truth, Jiraiya-sama. The real truth behind the village's darkest secrets. We believe you can help us find it."
The Sannin chuckled, his grin widening. "The truth, huh? Alright, kids. You've got my attention. Let's hear what you've got."
THE END.
