Sorry it's been so long since I updated, I was busy.
Will POV
Most of the time Nico and I spent together was in his apartment because we couldn't exactly go out in public places. There were way too many people everywhere and even if there was some way to make it look normal, we were taking every precaution we could take because neither one of us was really in the mood for getting murdered and having our bodies turned in for money.
We also couldn't go to my apartment because I live with two of my friends and it's hard enough as it is not to mention color, they both met their soulmates ages ago so if I slip up once, they'll notice. I've known them both or so long I can't believe that they haven't somehow figured out that something is different yet.
Nico and I decided to keep our relationship with each other strictly platonic. If somehow someone saw us together, we could at least say that we are friends.
I wanted to see him every day. Then again, his neighbors might get suspicious if I'm walking in there every day, so I try to limit it to just a few times a week. Strange how all I had wanted my whole life is to find my soulmate and fit in with everyone else. Now I've found him, and I have to keep it a complete secret.
What's so bad about gay people anyways? Did they ever do anything wrong to strait people? Or did people just decide that all on their own? Who in their right mind would start a business where people kill a certain type of people, bring them in, then exchange their bodies for money? Why are people so desperate to get rid of us?
That really isn't the point though. I doesn't matter how I feel about it, this is going to go on anyways and there is nothing that can be done about it. Guess I'll just adjust the rest of my life to fit their beliefs.
This whole thing worked very well for almost six months. I saw Nico a couple of times per week, my roommates Lou Ellen and Cecil didn't notice a thing. Nico and I never mentioned color in public and it started to seem like we could just spend the rest of our lives like this. That was until I said the dumbest thing I could have said.
"Hey Cecil, Will." Lou Ellen called us over. "There's something I need to talk to you guys about."
"What is it?" I asked, nervous. Whenever someone says they need to talk to me I get scared because what if they found out about Nico?
"So, you guys know Conner." (Conner was her soulmate.)
"Of course."
"Well, we have recently been talking about moving in together and we are going out in an hour and I think that he is going to propose." She said quickly, all in one breath.
"Congratulations!" I said.
"Congrats Lou!" Cecil replied.
"Thanks, I guess that means I'll be moving out." She said kind of sadly.
"I actually have been meaning to talk to you guys about that." Cecil started.
"Maranda and I, (Maranda is his soulmate.) we have also been considering moving in together."
"Oh." I said, "Congrats."
"Will, we are so sorry." Lou said.
"No, it's fine." I told them, "I have a friend that is looking for a roommate so I can just move in with him, until I have a soulmate to live with."
Lou Ellen and Cecil exchanged looks that said, 'Doesn't he know yet that he is never going to find her?' If only they knew.
"That should work," Lou said. "Hey, can I ask you guys something really quick."
"Of course." Cecil said, I nodded."
Lou held up two dresses, "Tonight could be important, which dress should I wear?"
"The red one." I replied.
"The blue one." Cecil said.
"Very helpful." Lue said sarcastically as she started walking back into her room.
She abruptly stopped. Cecil stopped what he was doing as well.
Lou turned around, "How long?" She asked Will.
"What do you mean?" I asked having realized my mistake.
"I asked you what dress I should wear, and you said the red one. You only see color if you have met your soulmate, so when did you meet her, Will?
"Today." I lied, "I was going to tell you guys tonight.
"Try again." Cecil said.
"What do you mean."
"I mean a few weeks ago I was doing homework, (He was still finishing collage.) and you walked into my room. I was working at my desk, and I asked you to hand me the orange notebook on my bed and you handed me the right one. I assumed it was just a lucky guess."
"Will," Lou started, "Why didn't you tell us?" She shut her eyes waiting for an answer, already suspecting she knew why."
"Um..." There was no excuse. How could I be this stupid.
Lou and Cecil exchanged knowing looks. I looked at the door thinking of how badly I wanted to just leave. But where would I go? Nico's apartment, then I could explain how I let him down. How we were going to die because of me. I couldn't do that. I would have to convince these people I wasn't gay or die trying.
"The truth is my soulmate was brought into the hospital after a car crash. She was almost dead when she got there, she didn't make it. I had already seen her it was too late."
Lou clapped her hand to her mouth, and I watched her eyes well up with tears. Cecil looked like he was about to start crying too.
"Oh Will," Lou came up to him and hugged him.
"That notebook thing was almost a month ago." Cecil thought aloud. "You don't have too long left."
"I was going to tell you. I just didn't know how, and I guess I just kept putting it off..."
Lou picked her phone up off the table, "I'm canceling with Conner, I'm staying here with you Will until..." She trailed off.
"No, I want you to go. Go have fun and try not to think about it. I can't wait to hear all about it when you get home."
Lou was crying hard now, "Okay, I will."
"Good."
"I'm going to go get ready I guess."
"Alright."
"I'll wear the red dress."
"Sounds good."
Right after Conner came to pick up Lou Ellen I turned to Cecil, neither of us had talked since I told them my perfect lie.
"I'm going to go take a walk." I told him.
"Yeah, whatever you need to do."
I ran almost the whole way to Nico's apartment.
"You did what now?!" Nico said when I told him what happened.
"You heard me."
"You told them those poor people you were dying."
"Do you think you could have come up with anything better on the spot?"
"You'll have to lose all contact with them after you fake your death. You will have to lose all contact with your family, your job will have to go, you're going to have to move."
"I know." I responded, "But I would much rather fake my death than actually die, and you would have to die too."
"Do you think your own friends would turn you in?"
"I don't know, I don't want to find out. If you were in my situation, do you think that Hazel, or Percy, or Jason would turn you in?"
"I can't imagine them doing that. But I guess nobody knows what they would do in that situation unless they were in it and your right, we shouldn't take any chances." Nico sighed, "I guess I have to fake my death too."
"Why would you have to?" I asked confused.
"I want to go with you." he said as though that were obvious.
"You do?" I was surprised.
"Of course, I'm not making you go through this alone."
"Neeks, screw platonic." I said as I kissed him. He kissed me back, so I knew he felt the same way. I wondered why we didn't just do this six months ago.
I was just about to pull away when we both heard the unmistakable 'click' of a camera. We both looked up to see a dark figure drop from Nico's bedroom window.
Nico rushed to the window and looked back at me with a terrified expression.
"Will, It's them."
"Who." I asked, even though I didn't even need him to answer. It was the people that beat Nico up, the people that were the reason he was in that hospital. And they had a picture that could get Nico and I killed.
