Chapter 5 -

"Mum!" Draco whined. "I want to stay longer!" He yelled, looking to be on the verge of tears. It had quickly become time for Tonks and Draco to leave, Tonks had hugged both boys and had left with her parents after tripping over a chair. Draco, on the other hand, was much more difficult as he wanted to stay and play with Harry.

"Now, Draco," Narcissa said in a soft voice. "Don't worry, we'll be coming back here tomorrow as well, and you'll have plenty of time to play with your cousin. Now, if we get back home quickly then I can have the house elves make you your favourite for dinner, how does that sound?" She said with a smile, watching Draco's face cutely scrunch up as he mentally weighed his options.

"Fine," Draco mumbled a few seconds later.

"Good boy," Narcissa patted his back. "Now, go and say goodbye to Harry before we go off." Draco sniffed before he nodded his head and saw Harry sitting in Bellatrix's lap across the room. He walked over to them and tapped Harry on his leg so he would look at him.

"Mum says I have to go now," Draco said sadly.

"Oh," Harry whispered in a disappointed voice.

"She said I could come back tomorrow; I'll bring some sweets," Draco added. "I've got to go now, bye-bye."

"Bye," Harry said, giving him a small wave.

"We shall see you tomorrow," Bellatrix said before she looked in Narcissa's direction. "Are you sure you don't need any help with dealing with your husband?" She asked.

"Trust me," Narcissa smirk. "I can handle Lucius," She said just as Draco stopped next to her. "Goodbye Harry, we shall see you tomorrow." She added before she and Draco exited through the fireplace.

"Don't worry," Bellatrix told Harry, who seemed quite sad. "They'll be coming over tomorrow," She told him, hugging him to her body as she rocked back and forth.

"I liked them," Harry said quietly as his back rested against her. "They were nicer to me than Dudley."

"That cousin 'Dudley' of yours is a stupid muggle who has been raised and moulded by even stupider muggles," Bellatrix told Harry, kissing the side of his head. "Forget all about them, they're not your family, I am. We're your new family and we're going to look after you and love you forever. In fact, I have a surprise for you." She grinned when Harry looked back and stared up at her.

"What is it?" He asked in a curious voice, looking up at her with his bright emerald eyes.

"I've decided that you and I are going to perform a blood adoption ritual," She told him, sounding as if Christmas had come early.

"What's that?" Harry asked, tilting his head slightly as he tried to remember if he had ever heard something like that before.

"Well, before you were born, your daddy took a bit of himself and put it together with a bit of your mummy," Bellatrix began explaining, remembering the script that Andromeda had given her and insisted she use since Harry wasn't old enough to have the birds and the bees talk. "Then that made you," She continued, whilst Harry gave her his full attention, looking every bit like the perfect student. "But now, because I am your new mummy, I want to but a bit of me in you so you can have three parents instead of two and I can make you properly my son, would you like that?" She asked, kissing his nose affectionately.

"So, you'd be my real mum?" Harry blinked.

"Yep," Bellatrix grinned. "We'd be a proper, real mother and son."

"That sounds amazing!" Harry said excitedly.

"So, should we do it?" Bellatrix said, unable to stop herself from laughing at his excitement.

"Yes, please!" Harry said quickly.

"You'll have to be patient, my little prince," Bellatrix replied. "Your aunties and Aunt Andi's mudblood are going to set everything up for us, it'll take two days. Until then, we've got plenty of time to spend together, what would you like to do?" She asked.

"Can...can you show me how to do magic?" Harry asked hopefully.

"Oh, you want to learn magic?" Bellatrix stared at him proudly. "Fine, but if I teach you then you have to promise not to tell anyone until I tell you to, not even your cousins, promise?" She asked, holding a hand up.

"Promise," Harry said with all of the seriousness a five-year-old boy could muster before he shook Bellatrix's hand.

"Good boy," Bellatrix said once they both let go. "Now, I'm a witch and you're a wizard, what that means is that we can both make magic. When you're young, you can't properly control your magic, that's why sometimes if you get really upset or angry then magic happens without you meaning to, that's called accidental magic. Normally, when a witch or wizard is eleven, they get their own wand. What wands do is make it easier to do magic, now, normally kids are not supposed to be getting wands before they turn eleven, but the Black family have never really paid attention to that particular rule. Still, remember that you can't tell anyone, Mummy might get in trouble if you do, understand?"

"Yes, Mum," Harry quickly nodded.

"Good boy," Bellatrix rubbed her nose against his before she pulled back and continued talking. "We have a few back up wands in the house, we'll test them out and see which one works best for you, then you can practise with that one. Kreacher," She called.

"How may Kreacher serve?" Kreacher asked as he popped into existence.

"Bring me some wands," Bellatrix ordered. "Harry needs one."

"Of course, Mistress," Kreacher obediently bowed before popping out of sight, he returned a few seconds later with a box full of wands. He opened the box and levitated them onto the table next to Bellatrix and Harry.

"Now, try this wand, Harry," Bellatrix said, pulling out a black wand and handing it to Harry. Harry took the wand and frowned, he moved it slightly and gasped when suddenly a hole appeared in one of the walls. "Not that one," Bellatrix said, taking the wand out of Harry's hand and giving him a brown wand. "Try this one," She told him after absently waving her own wand and repairing the wall. "Wave it around."

"Okay," Harry whispered before he waved the wand, he blinked when a wall of fire rose up in front of them.

"Not that one either, though it does look fun," Bellatrix pointed her wand at the flames and extinguished them before she took the wand away from Harry.

The pair continued trying out different wands for another fifteen minutes with varying results, nearly each time ended up with Bellatrix or Kreacher magically repairing something. Harry had apologised a few times, but Bellatrix had waived him off and encouraged him to keep trying out before eventually Harry waved a brown coloured wand and a small bunch of yellow sparks flew out of it.

"Hmm," Bellatrix looked thoughtful. "Not a perfect match for you, but it's good enough."

"That's be Mistress Dorea's wand," Kreacher spoke up.

"Harry's grandmother?" Bellatrix blinked.

"Yes, Mistress," Kreacher confirmed.

"This belonged to my grandmom," Harry whispered to himself.

"Well, isn't that amazing?" Bellatrix laughed before she took out her own wand. "Now, we're going to start with something basic, I'm going to teach you how to make light with your wand. The word you have to say is 'lumos'," Her wand lit up, a small light appeared on the tip of her wand. "Now, you try it, remember, say 'lumos', put the wand down and practise saying it first." Harry placed his wand on the table before he repeated the incantation several times, with Bellatrix correcting his pronunciation until he got it perfect. "Good, now try it with the wand," She told him, placing the wand in his hands.

"Okay," Harry took a deep breath. "Lumos," He said, he waited but the wand didn't do anything. "It's not working," He frowned.

"That's because you have to mean it," Bellatrix told him. "Magic is about intent, that means it's about what you're thinking and feeling. You have to really, really want the wand to make light. I want you to imagine that if you can make a light appear on your wand then you'll get your favourite food for dinner and you'll be the strongest wizard ever and you and I can stay together forever!"

Harry paused as he mentally digested Bellatrix's words, he looked at his wand and focused, imagining all of the things Bellatrix told him, imagining that the only thing he needed to get all of that was to make the wand make some light. He stared at the wand with as much intensity as someone his age was capable of.

"Lumos," He said, nothing happened. "Lumos!" He half-yelled and was quickly rewarded when the tip of his wand shined a bright light that he had to quickly shield his eyes from, the light continued blinding the whole room until Bellatrix intervened and snuffed it out. "I...I did it." Harry whispered to Bellatrix as he looked at her. "I...I really did it!" He said again, pride in his voice.

"Yes, you did," Bellatrix said, seeming even more proud than Harry was. "I think this deserves a reward. Kreacher!"

"Yes, Mistress?" Kreacher spoke up quickly.

"Make Harry a feast fit for a king," She ordered.

"At once, Mistress," Kreacher bowed his head before looking at Harry. "Young Master will be an excellent wizard, a good wizard for the House Black." He added before popping out the room.

Harry and Bellatrix had been happy to spend the next two days getting to know each other, during that time Bellatrix had taught Harry two other spells besides the wand-lighting spell, the first of which was a stinging hex, secondly, she had taught him to how to levitate things with the levitation charms, though he couldn't levitate much at the moment. Once those two days had ended, Harry and Bellatrix had found themselves in the Black family ritual room with Andromeda and Narcissa. The room was quite simply a dark and empty room with a few torches fitted to the walls, while it didn't look much, it was magically enhanced and capable of withstanding a great deal of damage.

Narcissa had drawn up a ritual circle on the ground and had placed a bowl in-between Harry and Bellatrix as the two sat in the middle of the circle, cross-legged and facing each other. Andromeda stood nearby with a variety of health potions ready as Bellatrix explained how the ritual would work to Harry who had been nodding along to her explanation. While he didn't understand everything, he was able to understand what he had to do during the whole ritual.

Once the ritual had started, Bellatrix and Harry had remained quiet as Narcissa had begun chanting something under her breath as she waved her wand around in circles, causing a blue dome to appear on top of the lines of the circle. Once Narcissa had finished chanting, Bellatrix had picked up a small knife and handed it to Harry. Harry took his right hand and held it above the bowl, Bellatrix had told him that the knife had been enchanted to it wouldn't hurt him, but he couldn't help but be doubtful. He placed the tip of the knife on his palm and began cutting down, letting some blood drop into the bowl below, once that was done Bellatrix had uncorked a potion's bottle and spilled it all into the bowl before she took the knife and cut her own palm, letting an even larger quantity of blood drip into the bowl.

Harry took in a deep breath before he picked up the bowl and gulped as he looked at the mixture inside of it.

"Are you ready?" Bellatrix asked him.

"I...think so." Harry sniffed, taking a deep breath.

"Whenever you're ready, my little prince, Mama loves you." Bellatrix whispered to him, smiling brightly at him. Harry couldn't help but smile back, he breathed in before he placed his lips to the bowl and began drinking.

"Hmm," Harry groaned as he felt himself waking up, not entirely sure what had happened. He remembered doing the ritual and nothing past that. As his eyes opened, he quickly realised that he was in his room. He coughed before he was able to force himself to a sitting position, he was barely sat up when the door swung open and Bellatrix walked into the room.

"Ah, and there's my handsome prince!" She smiled brightly as she rushed over and sat down next to him before pulling him into a tight hug.

"What happened?" Harry asked as he hugged her back.

"Oh, you fell asleep during the ritual, you must be exhausted," Bellatrix said as she pulled away, she reached for the nightstand next to Harry and picked up a potion. "Here, drink this, Aunt Andi said it would give you some energy, don't worry, this won't taste as bad." Harry looked doubtful but obediently drank the potion, finding himself quite pleased when it tasted like juice. "Thank you," He said once he was done.

"You're welcome, now come here, I've got something to show you," Bellatrix grabbed his hand and stood him up before walking him out of the room and into her room where she made him stop in front of a full-length mirror. "Tada!" Bellatrix blurted out, gesturing to his reflection.

"What..." Harry trailed off as he looked at his reflection.

Harry, having at least a rough idea of what his own face was supposed to look like, was quickly able to pick up on the differences. His face looked minorly different from before, it seemed to Harry like his cheeks were slightly higher than before. His hair, which was usually a scruffy, rough and wild mess was now a silky mess that looked like it could at least be combed. The weirdest change for Harry was his eyes, his eyes, usually an emerald green, were now much brighter than before and had a bit of violet in his iris's.

"I'm in your eyes," Bellatrix giggled, pointing to the violet part. "Now, I'm thinking, we should change your name."

"C...change my name?" Harry repeated, shaking his head to clear it before he looked at Bellatrix.

"Yes, you're now a proud member of the Black family," Bellatrix explained as she kneeled down so she could look him in his eyes. "You're my son, my family, I want to make you completely mine with a new name. I was thinking 'Hydrus' if you like it."

"Hydrus?" Echoed Harry.

"You see, in our family we like to name our children after space stuff," Bellatrix explained. "Hydrus is a star constellation."

"Consta...pation?"

"No," Bellatrix laughed. "Constellation, it means a pattern of stars. And do you know what 'Hydrus' means?" She asked him, he shook his head in the negative. "It means 'Water Snake'," She told him. "That sounds like a much cooler name than 'Harry', don't you think? So, do you want to change your name?" She asked, Harry frowned and looked between her and his reflection in the mirror, he stared at himself for several seconds before he turned back to Bellatrix.

"I...I like Hydrus," He smiled.
