Chapter 20 -
"Hedwig," Hydrus smiled as he walked into the owlery where he found Hedwig waiting for him along with dozens of other owls of various sizes and species. But he was proud to say that his snowy white owl notably stood out from the rest. Hedwig flew down from her perch to land on one close to him. "Hello girl," Hydrus smiled happily as he reached out and stroked her head, letting her affectionately nip at his fingers. "It's good to see you, Hedwig, are you up for sending a letter please?" He asked, Hedwig gave him a hoot that sounded somewhat offended at him considering it possible for her to not be ready. "I'm sorry," Hydrus said in an amused voice as he tied the letter to her leg. "Now, go send this to Mum, take your time." Hedwig hooted softly before she turned and flew out of the owlery.
Hydrus gave himself a pleased nod, he sent a small wave to the various other owls before turning and walking out of the room. The young Slytherin chose to spend some time walking around the school before he would return to the common room, partly to help him memorise the school's layout, but also because he found the whole place to be quite interesting. It was a magical castle after all.
A chirping sound near his left ear let him know that Bowie appeared to be enjoying the tour as well, Bowie very much liked travelling around with Hydrus, not like Rocky who was content with staying in one dark room all day.
"Place is quite nice, isn't it?" Hydrus whispered to Bowie who nodded in agreement just as the two approached one of the school courtyards. Suddenly, they heard a pair of voices, Bowie quickly ducked into Hydrus's clothes just as the green-eyed wizard turned a corner and Hydrus almost growled when he found himself in front of four Gryffindors. There was the muggleborn called Dean Thomas and the half-blood Seamus Finnegan and with them were Ronald Weasley and Neville Longbottom.
"What are you doing here?" Ron blurted out.
"Not really much of your business, is it, Weasley?" Hydrus said in an unimpressed voice. "Needless to say, I'd like to continue doing it far away from you all. So, if you'll excuse me..."
"Why? Off to nick somebody else's remembrall?" Neville accused. "They told me about what you and Malfoy did."
"That's the stories that you lot are telling, huh?" Hydrus asked in an amused voice. "That's funny because the main story going around in our common room is about how you can't even mount a broom without hurting yourself?" Hydrus said, causing Neville to flush with embarrassment.
"You probably jinxed it!" Ron said immediately.
"I'll jinx the lot of you in a sec," Hydrus glared at him.
"You can't take on all four of us," Dean said confidently.
"You better hope we don't have to find out," Hydrus told him before switching his attention back to Neville. "Move it, now." He ordered.
"Don't talk to me like that!" Neville growled at him.
"I'll talk to a second-rate wannabe wizard like you however I want," Hydrus said, stepping up to Neville so that he was only a couple of inches away from the boy. Ron moved to Hydrus's right while Seamus stood on his left along with Dean. "What are you going to do about it?" He asked in a low voice.
"You're cruel!"
"Your chubby!"
Neville - in a move that surprised his fellow Gryffindors - let out an angry shout before throwing a right hook at Hydrus's face, unfortunately for him, Hydrus had ducked under the punch. Before Neville could pull his arm back, Hydrus rushed forwards and slammed his forehead into Neville's nose, sending the Longbottom heir a few steps back. Hydrus capitalised by throwing a left hook into Ron's face and then quickly switching targets with a right-handed punch to Seamus's face, stunning them both. Dean was too shocked to stop Hydrus from punching him in the chin. Neville had recovered enough to charge at Hydrus, the chubby boy managed to grab him, lifting up into the air before he continued running forwards.
Hydrus quickly started throwing punches at any part of Neville he could reach before the two fell down in the middle of the courtyard with Neville landing on top of Hydrus, the Longbottom heir started throwing as many punches as he could at Hydrus who had covered up. A couple of his punches slipped through Hydrus's arms, hitting him in the head. Neville pulled his right arm back and tried to punch Hydrus again, only to miss and hit the floor. Neville let out a gasp as a strong surge of pain shot up his hand and wrist. His attention shifted back to Hydrus who - to Neville's horror- was staring at him with a wicked grin.
Hydrus cackled loudly, sending shivers down Neville's spine, Hydrus reached out and grabbed the Longbottom heir by his hair and pulled him in close enough for Hydrus to bite down on his ear. Neville screamed out in pain, he desperately pulled back until his ear managed to slip out of Hydrus's teeth. Hydrus hit him with a hard punch before rolling him off. Hydrus quickly jumped on top of Neville, laughing loudly as he threw several punches at Neville, bloodying the boy's face. Hydrus's gaze blurred as his smile grew wider, a left hook from him knocked out one of Neville's teeth as Hydrus's right hand reached into his robes. He had just managed to grab his intended object when a loud singing noise echoed in his ear.
"Flippendo!" A voice yelled, Hydrus looked to his right in time to feel the knockback spell crash against his chest. A large grunt escaped from him before being thrown backwards, he landed on his back and quickly rolled back to a kneeling position. He looked up and saw Liv and Hermione rushing towards the Gryffindor boys with Liv aiming her wand at Hydrus.
"More fun?" Hydrus grinned evilly whilst his wand kept singing from inside his holster. "Yeah, I'm warned, thank you," Hydrus whispered to it, causing it to stop singing.
"Enough!" Liv said as firmly as an eleven-year-old girl could, her eyes widened upon spotting Hydrus's right hand and seeing the blade in his hand. The blade's black handle was attached to a grey ring that was around Hydrus's index finger, the handle was facing downwards, resting on his palm and continued on in the form of a sharp and curved blade. She glanced at Neville who looked like a battered bruise, his face was swollen and bruised and blood was dripping out of his mouth where he was missing a couple of teeth. Not to mention the fact that his left eye had swollen and his nose looked broken. She forced her gaze away from Neville to Hydrus who was lightly swaying his body in a circle whilst his head stayed still, his emerald eyes locked onto her and his knife hand slid behind his back and out of view. "You're crazy." She blurted out, her voice shaking, realising that none of the other Gryffindors had spotted the knife since the boys were too focused on their pain whilst Hermione was currently panicking in between her desire to take the boys to the hospital wing and her fear of broken rules.
"Crazy?" Hydrus grinned, licking his lips when Ron, Dean and Seamus pulled their wands out and aimed them at Hydrus.
"No!" Hermione screamed. "Stop it! We're all going to get in trouble!"
"What the hell's going on?!" A voice demanded as two Hufflepuff arrived, both prefects, one male and the other being Tonks.
"He attacked us!" Ron blurted out, wincing as pain shot through his face.
"He attacked all of you?" The male prefect asked sceptically.
"He hits hard!" Seamus protested, rubbing at his face while Dean moved his jaw around in an attempt to see if it was working.
"He...he has a knife!" Liv said quickly, still pointing her wand at Hydrus.
"What are you talking about?" Hydrus asked innocently, raising both of his hands to show he had nothing in them.
"I'll check," Tonks said quickly, moving forwards to Hydrus and waving her wand around him. "Where is it?" She whispered.
"Back pocket," He whispered, eyes still locked onto Liv. Tonks began patting him down, making a show of looking everywhere before she found his blade and discreetly snuck it into her own clothes.
"You brought your karambit knife into school?" Tonks whispered in an annoyed voice as Bowie snuck out of Hydrus's clothes and jumped from Hydrus to Tonks and snuck into her clothes, thankfully unhurt.
"Nah, I brought my karambit knives into school," Hydrus corrected her, still staring at Liv who had finally lowered her wand. "This is the only one I have on me though, the rest are in my room."
"Thank Merlin for small mercies," Tonks muttered before noticing where Hydrus was looking, she clicked her fingers in front of his face. "Snap out of it, Hydrus." She hissed.
"She blasted me," Hydrus said, finally looking away.
"You were about to cut up her friend, I don't think that's a fair comparison." Tonks sighed.
"I want to fight her," Hydrus whispered, smiling.
"Well, you can't," Tonks told him before pulling him into a standing position. "He's clear," She told the others.
"What?! He can't be!" Liv shouted. "I know he has a knife! I saw it!"
"Josh," Tonks said to the other prefect. "Check him if you want." The prefect that was apparently called 'Josh', frowned before nodding and making his way over to Hydrus. He started searching for a knife, and several moments later gave his verdict.
"I can't find a knife," Josh said, stunning Liv into silence. "Tonks, settle this while I take the boy to the hospital wing," Josh told her before using his wand to levitate Neville into the air and carry him away.
"Anyway, what happened here?" Tonks asked once Josh and Neville had left.
"These Gryffindor dorks attacked me!" Hydrus said quickly.
"That's a lie!" Ron yelled.
"He threw the first punch!" Hydrus accused. "I was just walking along, minding my own business when they got in my way."
"He's lying!" Dean said quickly, taking a moment to flex his jaw.
"Who threw the first punch then?" Tonks asked them.
"Liv and I just got here a few seconds before you did," Hermione spoke up first. "We didn't see who started it but we did see Hydrus on top of Neville, punching him."
"That still doesn't answer my question, who threw the first punch?" Tonks asked once more. The standing Gryffindor boys took a moment to stare at each other before Ron spoke up.
"Umm...it was him," Ron said lamely, pointing at Hydrus who stared back with an unimpressed look on his face.
"Really?" Tonks drawled with a similar expression. "Come on," She sighed. "All of you to the hospital wing, including you two," She added to Liv and Hermione.
"But...we weren't hurt," Liv pointed out.
"You're still witnesses, let's go."
"None of you shall move without my permission, understood?" Madam Pomfrey, the woman in charge of the hospital wing, ordered Hydrus and the first-year Gryffindors. They were all currently in the hospital wing along with Tonks. Neville was lying down on a bed since he was the most damaged of them all. The other Gryffindor boys had some light swelling on their faces and stood near Neville's bed along with Hermione and Liv, Hydrus stood opposite them with his arms crossed, light swelling on his face and bandages around his knuckles, and Tonks stood in between them.
"Of course, Madam Pomfrey," Hydrus replied smoothly, bowing his head towards her this apparently pleased her enough for her to dismiss him and stare hard at the Gryffindors.
"We'll make sure they stay put, Ma'am," Liv said with Hermione nodding in agreement.
"Very good," Madam Pomfrey huffed before walking off, muttering about violent children.
"We'll get you for this, Black!" Ron hissed, deciding that if Hydrus wanted to be called Black then that's what Ron would call him since he was obviously nowhere near good enough to be a Potter.
"That'll be ten points from Gryffindor," Tonks said.
"What? Why?!" Ron blinked.
"Five for threatening a student and another five for being stupid enough to do it in front of me, a prefect," Tonks answered bluntly.
"That was a nice knockback jinx," Hydrus said suddenly to Liv. "You practise it a lot?"
"I only learnt it yesterday," Liv admitted quietly.
"Nice," Hydrus said approvingly. "Try to learn the leg locker, that one is fun."
"The leg locker?" Liv repeated.
"Yeah, what it does is lock your legs and..."
"I can work out what it does," Liv cut him off with a small glare, though it didn't seem to bother Hydrus who looked more amused than anything.
"Miss Tonks," Professor McGonagall said as she walked in, only to stop and gasp as she saw the state of the boys. "My goodness, what has happened here?!" She demanded.
"I would also like to know," Snape said as he walked in behind her.
"Josh and I just arrived in time to break it up," Tonks said. "We did see Hydrus on top of Neville, punching him," Tonks admitted. "But when we asked what happened, Hydrus had an answer and the other boys had to think for a moment before answering so I'm not entirely sure I believe them."
"Thank you, Miss Tonks," Professor McGonagall said. "You are dismissed."
"Right-O," Tonks nodded to her and Snape. "Professors," She said before walking.
"See ya, Cuz," Hydrus called, she sent him a small wave before exiting.
"Cuz?" Liv repeated in a shocked voice.
"She's my cousin," Hydrus said with a small smile, watching as Liv's eyes widened and the dots started to connect in her mind.
"Oh, you son of a..."
"Miss Cooper!" Professor McGonagall admonished before she could finish, Liv huffed before staring at Hydrus who smiled innocently at her.
