Jod stood at the window, simply watching the ship continue to fall towards him. He could feel the looks of Wim and Fern. Knew they couldn't see him, but they still looked. Watched.
He couldn't help but smile. This would be quite the lasting impression...
But...wait...the ship...stopped? The smoke around the destroyed supervisor droid - still. The lights around the room - not blinking.
'Jod."
He turned and saw a Togruta standing behind him. He could still see the destroyed room, but not as clearly now. Like there was something suddenly in front of it. Growing.
Or he...was moving.
'What...?" He looked around him again as the control room completely faded around him and was replaced with dark.
Dark. And yet...
'Where...?'
'This is the world between worlds,' the Togruta woman said simply.
Thoughts spun through his head. Was he dreaming? Was this some sort of purgatory? The ship had hit and he was dead. Had to be.
All that came out his mouth was 'Why?'
'To make a choice,' she said as she walked up to him. 'Death,' she waved towards the small, shadowed view of the window he had been standing at, ship still seemingly frozen. 'Or,' she turned to give him a clear view of a shadowed view into a vague door-shaped light. Indistinct shapes. 'You could choose life. Choose to learn more about the skills you've only toyed with thus far. Choose to help save the galaxy.'
He gave a short laugh and looked down at her to see an amused but still serious face looking back at him.
'Why do I feel like that is not as simple a choice as it seems?'
Now she laughed. 'It never is.'
She started towards the light as Jod stood looking back and forth.
It's simple. Who wouldn't want to live. And yet...
He turned back to the Togruta. 'Hey! What's your name?'
She was at thedoor now and turned back to him.
'I'm Ahsoka'.
'Ahsoka, huh?' he said, taking one last look at the ship. An easy end. To what was a fairly decent life.
And then he turned away.
'So, Ahsoka. What are we saving the galaxy from?'
