All of my bones crunched as I got up. I tried to slip out of Pansy's gentle hold without disturbing her. Carefully disentangling myself, I planted a soft kiss on her forehead before quietly manoeuvring across the dimly lit room. The faint glow of dawn seeped through the windows. Hogwarts, usually bustling with life, felt tranquil and serene in these early morning hours.
As I reached for my robe, a sudden rustling made me freeze. Pansy shifted in her sleep, murmuring incoherently.
- Sofia – my heart skipped a beat when I heard my name. – Come back here – I lay down on our temporary bed. She wrapped her arm around me, and tugged her head into the crock of my neck. – Just one more minute, please – my skin started tingling as I felt her warm breath on my neck.
- I'll stay here as long as you want.
- Thank you – she said and pressed a kiss to my neck. I turned to her with widened eyes. – Oh, I am so sorry. It was just a…
I put my finger on her mouth to silence her. – It's okay. Actually, I liked it.
- Really?
- Yes.
My heart felt so much lighter after I said it. It was a beautiful moment. She leaned closer. – Then I have to do it again, right? – she asked me with a smile.
- Definitely. You need to repeat that a lot of times.
Pansy moved slightly, positioning herself above me, her eyes locking with mine. I could see every detail of her face – the soft curve of her lips, the way her hair framed her face, and the depth of her beautiful eyes. – My breath hitched as I realized just how close we were.
- You are so gorgeous – I whispered, unable to hold back words. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she gave me a tender smile.
- You too – she replied softly, her gaze never leaving mine. She leaned in closer, our lips nearly touching. The world around us seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of in that moment.
She kissed my jaw, then began to move upward with her kisses. Our lips almost crushed, when the door swung open. Draco and Blaise stood there, momentarily stunned by what they saw. The sudden intrusion felt like a bucket of cold water, jolting us back to reality.
- Oh, sorry, didn't mean to interrupt – Draco said with a big smirk on his face, quickly closing the door behind him. We both laughed nervously, realizing how close we had been to being caught.
- That was close – I whispered.
- Yeah, but worth it – Pansy replied.
Suddenly, the door opened again, this time revealing Professor McGonagall. – Miss Parkinson, Miss Miller, you had been here all night? You should be in class.
We quickly stood up, trying to compose ourselves. – Sorry Professor, but Mr. Filch accidentally locked us here – I explained.
- No excuses. Go get your books, and than off to classes, both of you. And more lingering in empty classrooms – she said sternly.
- Yes, Professor – we replied in unison.
As we left the room, McGonagall assigned us to different classes. Pansy went to Potions while I headed to Transfiguration. I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. The morning had been so perfect, and now we were separated.
Walking to Transfiguration, I couldn't stop thinking about Pansy. The memory of her closeness, her warmth, the look in her eyes—everything about our morning together replayed in my mind like a cherished dream. Each step felt heavy with the weight of what could have been.
Later that day, as I walked to my next class, I saw Pansy in the hallway, talking to another student. As I got closer, I realized it was a boy from Ravenclaw. They seemed to be deep in conversation. I tried not to let it bother me, but when I saw him lean in and kiss her, my heart sank. I turned and walked away, not wanting to see any more.
During Herbology class, we were assigned to work in pairs. Normally, Pansy and I would have teamed up without a second thought. But today, I couldn't bring myself to face her. The image of her and that Ravenclaw boy kept playing in my mind.
- I will work with Hannah – I said quickly, avoiding Pansy's gaze.
Pansy looked hurt, but didn't say anything. As class went on, the distance between us felt like a chasm, growing wider with each passing moment.
By the time our next class was about to start, I couldn't bear the thought of facing Pansy. Instead of going to Charms, I slipped away to our dormitory, tears streaming down my face. Pansy must have noticed my absence, because soon enough, the door to our room swung open, and there she was, her eyes filled with concern and confusion.
- Sofia, what happened? – she asked, rushing to my side.
- You know exactly what happened – I snapped, the pain and betrayal in my voice.
Pansy frowned, her confusion turning to frustration. – No, I don't. Please, just tell me.
- I am in love with you for years, and I was so happy and thought that maybe you feel the same way. But then I saw you with that Ravenclaw boy. I saw him kiss you – I said, my voice breaking.
Pansy's eyes widened in shock. – What? No, Sofia, it wasn't like that. He just asked me for a date, and caught me by surprise. I was going to push him away.
- Sure, you were – I said, sarcasm dripping from my words. – I saw the way you were talking to him.
Pansy's face flushed with anger. – Why don't you trust me? It was just a misunderstanding!
- How can I trust you when I see you kissing someone else? – I shouted back, tears streaming down my face.
Pansy took a step back, her eyes narrowing. – If you are going to be so unreasonable, maybe I should just go be with him instead.
Her words cut deep, and I gasped, feeling as though I'd been slapped. – Fine! I don't care about it.
Pansy turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her. I collapsed onto the bed, sobbing uncontrollably. The beautiful moments we had shared that morning felt like a distant memory, overshadowed by the pain and confusion of the present.
As I lay there, my sobs eventually subsiding into quiet tears, I couldn't help but replay the argument in my mind. Pansy's words echoed painfully, but so did the look in her eyes. I wiped my eyes, trying to gather my thoughts. The door opened slowly, and Elara walked in, concern etched on her face.
- Sofia, I saw Pansy storm out, but I wanted to give you some time. What happened? – she asked gently, sitting beside me.
I took a shaky breath and recounted the events of the day, from seeing Pansy with the Ravenclaw boy to our heated argument. Elara listened quietly, her expression was thoughtful.
I don't think Pansy would do that to you, Sofia. You two are so important to each other – she said softly. – Maybe you should talk to her again, when you're both calmer.
Her words struck a chord, and I nodded slowly. - Maybe you're right. I just... I don't know what to believe right now.
Elara gave me a reassuring smile. - Take your time, think about this situation, but don't let this tear you apart. You both deserve to be happy.
As she left the room, I felt a flicker of hope. Maybe there was a chance to fix things, to understand each other better. But first, I needed to find the courage to face Pansy again.
