Chapter 9
After they entered the shop Harry couldn't help but notice how dusty it was, almost as if no one had entered the shop since it opened. But he didn't take that at face value since Pokemon could take the shape or appearance of mundane objects and fool trainers all the time.
As the group looked around an old and dusty voice spoke out from behind them.
"Ah young mister Potter, I wondered when I would be seeing you, I remember the very first day your parents came and received their very first wands."
Ria was already between Harry and the newly appeared wizard, John was already preparing an attack in case he moved forward in a threatening manner.
Harry turned around and saw the man who had managed to sneak up on him and Ria, he was an older gentleman with white hair that looked like he stuck his finger in an electrical socket.
Sharp light blue eyes and wrinkles around the eyes that seemed to hint he smiled a lot, he also seemed unconcerned about the attack John was preparing. Almost as if he was used to being threatened by trainers or their Pokemon, which if he greeted all his customers like this, is more than likely.
The man then turned to Hermione and seemingly ignored John and began talking to her.
"And what would your name be my dear, I haven't had the pleasure of giving wands to your parents before."
Getting over her shock Hermione stuck out her hand and addressed the question.
"Hello my name is Hermione Granger and both my parents are muggle, who are you and how did you do that, no one was there when we entered."
The man simply gives a small grin and shakes Hermione's hand. "Ah a muggle born well I hope you enjoy the wonders the magical world has to offer you young lady. Minerva, glad to see you helping new students, how's your wand treating you, twelve and three quarters maple with unicorn, good for transfiguration quite springy and supple."
McGonagall gives a small smile to the man and pulls out her wand handing it over to him.
"Yes I am Mr.Olivander and my wand is doing just fine you have always been reliable when it comes to their choice in owner."
The now named Olivander simply turns the wand in his hand muttering to himself before returning the wand to McGonagall seemingly satisfied. He then moves around the group of three adults and two children to behind the counter and leaning over it to look at the youngest members of the group.
Harry's newest Pokemon dreepy looked out at the shop and the strange man and simply made noises of interest but didn't seem eager to leave his perch around Harry's neck. Harry reaches his hand up and taps the dreepy's head with his index and middle fingers seemingly to confirm to himself it was still there.
Ria and John both took up positions on either side of Harry and exuded an aura of calm to not startle their newest, and youngest, team member.
Olivander simply continues to ignore the Pokemon and motions the two wizard children forward as if he was a vendor offering confectioners. Once they both stood in front of his counter he pulled out a tape measure from seemingly nowhere and let it float from his hand and began to measure the two children.
As it continues to measure, Olivander walks off into the multitude of shelves and starts rummaging through them seemingly at random and without any idea what he is looking for. Olivander soon returns as the tape measure begins to measure the space between their eyes and with a snap of his fingers it stops and returns to the counter where a large array of wands now awaits the children.
"Now then let us start with young miss Granger, I think we should start with this wand."
The first wand was a light brown with some small embellishment in the shape of ivy growing along the handle towards the wand tip. Hermione reached forward and grasped the wand handle in her trembling hands hoping that it will work.
"Now go ahead and give it a wave miss Granger." Said McGonagall startling Hermione, before she regains her wits and takes her new teachers advice.
With a simple wave, Hermione feels a wave of warmth with the smell of books and knowledge on the air as a small swirl formed around her moving much of the dust out of the store.
It soon settles down, as if nothing had happened, except for the wide smile on both McGonagall and Olivander face. Hermione still in shock and feeling a little giddy from what she just felt doesn't notice this and simply stares at her wand in amazement before she finally snaps out of it as Olivander begins to speak.
"Vine wood and drampa heartstring, ten and three quarters inches, good for simple charm work, and meant for someone who values knowledge and their loved ones with a righteous passion."
With these words Hermione moves over to her parents and starts to show off her wand as Olivander turns his attention to Harry.
"Now then mister Potter let's see if we can't find another companion for you."
Olivander hands Harry a wand and as he goes to wave it has it immediately yanked from his hand with Olivander muttering how it's wrong. Ria and John give Olivander a dirty look but don't make a move towards him, but the dreepy thinks the funny man is interesting and wants to know what the weird sticks are for since they feel weird to it.
Again Harry is handed another wand and this time he manages to wave it and a force rockets out from the tip and shatters a vase nearby. The dreepy croons in excitement at this while Harry puts the wand back on the table trying to apologize while making his newest Pokemon stop being happy at the destruction.
"It's alright mister Potter I love a challenge." With a flock of his own wand Olivander fixes the vase as if nothing happened to it.
Over the course of what felt like two hours but was only one, wand after wand was presented to Harry to try and wand after wand was rejected. Some rejections were funny, like the blast of air that made the dust in the room fall onto the occupants of the room along with the fixtures.
Other rejections were not as funny, such as the ball of flame that caught one of the curtains on fire and led to both Ria and John acting to stop it before it spread.
It seemed as if every wand had been tried and Harry was about to ask if he could have a wand made when he heard Olivander mutter something strange.
"Surely not, but he did...maybe."
Olivander soon returned to the counter with another wand, but unlike the others something felt different as soon as Harry saw it. Almost like it was calling to him, beckoning him to pick it up so that they would be whole.
Ria and John felt it too and they were slightly unnerved by this one, dreepy simply stared at it almost as transfixed as Harry, head tilted to the side in child like confusion.
It was a dark black wand with no embellishments or ornaments, pure simple function over form.
Without prompting Harry reached forward and pulled the wand from its box and as soon as he did a rush of power, energy, and recognition ran through his entire body. Spark sprung out from the wand tip and made a cornucopia of colors that played across the empty air before it died out.
"Strange...very strange indeed." Olivander mutters snapping the room out of it's amazement.
"Sorry sir but what's strange?" Asked Harry as he put the wand down and looked back to the ancient seeming shop owner.
"I remember every wand I have ever sold mister Potter, each one, and it just so happens that this wand had a brother." Olivander picks up the wand and gestures towards the center of it.
"Most wand cores come from different Pokemon even if they are the same species, but the feather that makes up this wand had a brother given from the exact same Pokemon, and it just so happens to have given you that scar."
Ria and John both make growling noises in their throats as Olivander points to Harry's scar and dreepy gives a slight whimper.
From the corner of the room a voice sounds out.
"What is the core of the wand mister Olivander?"
Both Harry and Olivander look over from where the voice came from and see Hermione sitting with her parents and McGonagall who had seen and heard everything. With a sigh Olivander simply hands the wand back over to Harry before turning to address the question.
"Well Mrs.Granger the Pokemon that gave these feathers is a Ho-oh that has been in this region for the past century."
After this shocking revelation, and many more questions from Hermione, they finally paid for their wands and left to finally return to the muggle side after the long and rather shocking day.
