Chapter 13

The hoothoot seemed to weigh the name in her mind before with a happy sounding bark the now named Hedwig bobbed its head up and down, Harry quickly entered it into the Rotomdex.

As Harry was doing this Hermione looked at his Rotomdex and with a quick glance saw something that surprised her.

"Harry, why is you Rotomdex still in the beginner mode, surely you've gotten it updated."

Hedwig, Slytherin, Ria, and Harry all looked at Hermione with looks of confusion before Harry looks back to his Rotomdex and begins to scrutinize it. Hermione just shakes her head and moves closer to Harry pressing her shoulder against his before motioning to the top left corner of the current screen Harry was on.

"This is the normal screen you get when you first get your Rotomdex, but if you go into the top left there, you'll find the controls to unlock the rest of the functions that beginning trainers don't get."

After tapping the corner image, a new screen pops up with a simply line.

(Do you wish to turn off beginner mode?)

Harry quickly types in yes and then his screen turns black before it flashes back on again, but unlike before where it only had a couple of menu options, the new Home Screen included two new menu options.

Like every Rotomdex out there, Harry had his pc menu, a menu that lets him see what's in his bag, his Pokédex, and his team rooster, but now added on to this was trading menu, and the jobs menu.

As Harry is looking at these new options Hermione begins to rattle off facts about this new and improved Rotomdex.

"Now that your out of beginner mode you can trade any extra Pokémon you catch and don't want for Pokémon you do, and you've opened up the job function which lets you send some Pokémon out to do a job and earn you some cash. If your Pokémon do a excellent job you could get a bonus from the person who hired you."

Harry was looking through each of the functions as Hermione talked about it and found these options to be interesting, but the next part is what really got his attention.

"Also now that you have it out of the beginner mode, your teams roster has probably been updated with all of their moves so go ahead and take a look at that once your done getting the settings fixed."

Harry's head snaps to Hermione at this news.

"What do you mean update my teams roster moves, they should still only have the four moves I've been training them on?"

Hermione gives Harry a flat look and without even asking clicks on the team roster function before pulling up Ria's roster information.

As usual it had Ria's ability as steadfast and her moves still being aura sphere, bullet punch, calm mind, and quick guard, but then her list kept going, she also had detect, metal claw, counter, force palm and life dew. It also gave her something called a nature which was quiet, and that she liked dry food and disliked sweet food.

It even showed him where he got her and the time he got her, along with the fact she was a Riolu when he had her, and that her special attack would progress faster and her speed would suffer.

Harry was also surprised at the amount of moves Ria had, he thought she could only use four and that was it, he didn't realize how much he had been holding her back from her true potential. Ria looking over Harry's shoulder also didn't realize how many moves she had either, but she was glad, this just ment she had more ways to protect Harry then she did before.

Harry was stunned, why hadn't anyone told him about this before, how long had he been holding back his team by making them believe they could only use four moves.

Hermione sees her friends surprise and decides to answer some of his confusion.

"The main reason everyone thinks your Pokémon can only use four moves is because the leagues only like using four moves during matches to make it easier for trainers to keep track of what's been used and what type of plan they should make to face them."

As she says this Hermione pulls out her own Rotomdex, which is upgraded beyond standard gym challenger, and pulls up the information on the league guide.

"They also don't show people how this function works until either they've read the guide in its entirety or have completed the elite four and beaten the champion."

She pulls up the chapter that explains how the gyms implemented this rule so gym challengers would t get so caught up in how many moves their Pokémon knows that they forget what moves they have when it comes time to battle.

Harry pulls himself away from the guide and looks back to his teams roster and wants to do a deep dive but decides to wait after he's looked at Hedwigs and shared it with Hermione. So pulling up Hedwigs roster data Harry begins to read out what exactly she has.

"Hedwig the hoothoot, found in the dark forest of the crown tundra, ability is tinted lens, brave natured which raises her attack stats and lowers her speed stats, she also loves spicy food, dislikes sweet, moves are nightshade, peck, growl, echoed voice, reflect, psycho shift. This Pokémon has been gifted to Harry Potter by Rubeus Hagrid."

Harry was shocked at the extra information given to him now, he was able to tell even what types of food his Pokémon would like and how their natures would affect their growth as he trains them and what he should focus on.

He needed to look through his team again and make sure he hasn't been hindering them this entire time he has been training them, but before he could do that he had to thank Hermione for telling him about this.

"Hermione, if you ever need anything just ask, you've helped me out more then you know with this."

Hermione simply waved it off.

"There's no need for that Harry, I'm just trying to be a good friend and thank you for giving me my new friend."

She lifts up the Jangmo-o still in her arms and nuzzles into it, the Jangmo-o responds with happy little warbles and chirps as it returns the affection being given by its new trainer.

"How about we just say we owe one for each of us to be payed at a later date?"

Hermione thinks over Harry's offer before nodding and extending her hand offers a handshake to seal the agreement, Harry quickly returns the hand shake before he feels his neck being tugged at and looks at Slytherin who is seemingly trying to get as close to Hedwig as possible without leaving Harry's neck.

Harry smiles at his little friends antics and decides to help, he takes his hand and unwinds Slytherin from his neck before offering Slytherin up to Hedwig.

"We'll girl, feel like having a tag along for a bit?"

Hedwig tilts her body and switches to her other foot, starring intently at Slytherin who just gives big Rockruff eyes, before snapping back to an upright position and bobbing herself up and down.

Harry gently places Slytherin on Hedwig's leg and watches in amusement as he snuggles into her, and Hedwig preens at the attention and puffs up a little more at the awe she is being showered with by the little Dreepy.

Hermione leans over and stage whispers.

"If your not careful, she's going to get a big head from all this attention."

Hedwig simply huffs and turns away from the bushy haired witch with an over-exaggeration that clearly shows she isn't being serious, causing both Harry and hermione to giggle as the Jangmo-o and Lucia the Growlithe both begin to wag their tails in excitement.

Lucia begins to bark and hop around the bench the two wixen found themselves on as the simply laughed and watched him hop around, with the Jangmo-o cooing at him and Hedwig crooning at Slytherin, seemingly telling him to not act like the foolish fire type.

The little Dreepy nodded along and tried to adopt the same aloof look as the noble HootHoot he hung on to, but he simply looked like he had eaten something bad.

Yhis lead to the two young wixen to burst out laughing and made Lucia run around the bench faster, and Hedwig and Slytherin to look dignified on the shoulder of Harry as tears streamed down his face from laughing.

Ria simply watched them and a small content small graced her face as she watched her trainer interact and laugh with this strange bushy haired trainer with the excitable fire type. She knew that while he didn't get mistreated by his relatives, he didn't have any friends outside of her and the rest of the team, since that waste of space Hippopotas disguised as a human child kept scaring away anyone who wasn't scared by her and Ivan.

After another hour of talking and laughing, Harry and Hermione parted ways, with a promise to see each other on the Hogwarts express so they could hang out more before they started school.
