Issue 1: Tutorial Part 1

Date: 2nd of February/2024

Location: Keystone City/United States of America

Some people love to make wishes on stars or birthday cakes. The wishes can be anything from well wishes to wealth or even superpowers so people could be heroes and possibly save the world or something, but some wishes can be forced onto others and that is the case with a young man named Kenny Reigns.

Kenny is seventeen with light brown skin and short black hair on his head along with brown eyes and an athletic frame while dressed in a basic lime green jacket worn open to show the black skull T-shirt underneath along with jeans and sneakers plus red biker goggles wrapped around his forehead.

Kenny looked around at his classmates and saw the floating words and numbers above people's heads as his life had recently transformed overnight roughly two weeks ago as his life had transformed into that of a videogame…Specifically an RPG and it all seemed to stem from the weird mark on the back of his right hand. The mark is an empty circle, but the circle lines have marks of what looked like flames.

Kenny simply took a breath as he waited for his class to start so he could get on with his day.

"Why do you look like someone kicked you in the balls?" A familiar voice asked Kenny, causing him to look to the right and see his friend Santos Deigo.

Santos sports tanned skin with curly black hair on his head and black eyes with a lanky frame of his own while dressed in baggy clothes.

"Just in a mood that's all." Kenny said back while Santos wasn't convinced and simply took his seat next to his friend.

Santos Deigo, Level: 3

Heir to the Sweet-Tooth candy company/Slacker Extraordinaire

Kenny almost let out a snort as he looked at the titles above his friend's head. Kenny knew that Santos was the heir to his family's candy company. Unlike the typical rich person stereotype, Santos family was kind and extra supportive of Santos even with his extremely lazy tendencies.

Seriously, how do you get an 'F' in gym? The answer was barely putting in any effort and not even wearing the proper gym clothes.

Anyway, the two of them had been childhood friends since elementary school and the third member of their friend group finally made his way into the classroom and he was the one that shocked Kenny the most after Kenny first acquired these strange powers.

Joseph Nates, Level: 15

Lesser Wizard/Former Member of the 'Extremist' Faction

Joseph has fair skin with shoulder length brown hair and blue eyes with an athletic frame of his own and dressed in a black long sleeved dress shirt and matching pants with brown dress shoes and square rimmed glasses over his eyes and a silver necklace around his neck with a cross pendant attached to it.

Kenny was taken back at first since the gang known as the 'Extremist' had been one of the many problems for Keystone City and many people thought they were the beginning of a brand-new gang syndicate like the Yakuza or something. So, he wasn't thrilled with what he saw, but he couldn't exactly say anything given the nature of how he discovered the truth.

There was also the fact that Joseph was chill, and never brought any gang stuff into his and Santos lives or even got them into any trouble. Until now, Kenny had always thought of Joseph being the most normal of their group but apparently looks can be deceiving.

"What took you so long? I thought I'd have to deal with this grump by myself during class." Santos said with a smirk at their friend who took a seat.

"I just had some business I needed to handle. Besides, if I was picking up your slack as a gym partner, I'd be bummed too." Joseph joked making Santos roll his eyes.

"Whatever. You're just jealous by the fact that I can relax while you're stuck being a stick in the mud." Santos replied, making Joseph chuckle while the class officially started.

The school day was normal with the obvious exclusion of Kenny's game-based abilities annoying him as he managed to increase his intelligence and wisdom stats by a point or two during his various classes. However, he was once again surprised by a classmate as a mute girl had just recently transferred into school and had a concerning title above her head.

Cassandra Cain, Level: 23

Orphan/Generational Assassin/Destructions Daughter

She was the highest-level person in the school and Kenny made a personal note to avoid being near her since she had the title of an Assassin which meant no good would come from speaking or interacting with her.

'Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I'd rather be harsh then dead.' Kenny thought to himself as he weighed his options on getting to know the new girl.

After school ended, Kenny, Santos and Joseph started making their way out of the school grounds and decided to hang out at a nearby arcade but were stopped by a total stranger that made Joseph flinch back in slight shock.

Bishop, Level: 30

Occult Summoner/Enforcer of the Extremist

Bishop has pale skin with black hair done in a top knot on his head with black sunglasses over his eyes and is wearing a black and white business suit, pants and black dress shoes with a strange silver ring on his right hands ring finger.

"Santos and Kenny. You guys need to leave right now." Joseph said quickly and in a serious tone of voice.

"What? Do you know this guy or something?" Santos asked while looking over at Bishop. "If you're looking for cash or something, you need to look somewhere else dude." Santos said before he started to walk towards Bishop as all the danger senses in Joseph and Kenny flared to life and Kenny quickly ran over to Santos and grabbed his arm roughly before pulling him back.

"Joseph, its time for you to end this foolishness. I don't want things to escalate to violence, but if I have to. I will use force." Bishop explained coldly.

"He's the reason you're in the Extremist, right?" Kenny asked Joseph bluntly, which took Joseph and Santos back in shock a bit.

"What? How do you-" Joseph was speaking before Kenny cut him off.

"I'll explain later, but right now I know for a fact we need to get away from this guy as fast as possible." Kenny said before Bishop sighed.

"Unfortunately, I can't allow you to do that." Bishop said before he snapped his fingers and Kenny felt as if he was suddenly forced into some kind of bubble as the world around him went silent and the sounds of cars and people were gone.

[You have entered a magical barrier!]

"Will someone please explain what is going on?" Santos asked with zero idea about what was happening in front of him before Bishop raised his right hand and in front of it appeared a black magic looking pentagram that was massive in size and coming out of it were several black tendrils of slime that quickly grabbed Kenny and Santos and raised them high into the air before the rest of the monsters body emerged from the circle and showed it to be some kind of black sludge with literal bones decorating its body along with a face made of bone covering the entire front of its body while the tendrils came out of its sides.

Hell Sludge, Level: 8

Lesser Demon

Before Joseph could do anything, he was knocked backwards by a strong gust of wind force that sent him colliding into a nearby wooden bench courtesy of Bishop as wind force swirled around him.

"Damn it." Kenny cursed in anger as he and Santos were tied up by the monster in front of them and barely able to move as the tendrils felt like they were made of thick reinforced cables.

Kenny didn't bother asking Santos if he was ok because he could visibly see how shook his friend was and that he was clearly freaking out. Kenny also glanced down to see Bishop attacking Joseph with strong bouts of wind force while Joseph had raised some kind of shield to protect himself, but the shield was taken down time and time again by Bishop who delivered more punishment to Joseph who wasn't looking to hot.

Dozens of cuts from the wind force, that were getting bloodier and bloodier along with dozens of bruises and his clothes were getting shredded.

"Fuck! Let me go you piece of shit!" Kenny shouted in anger as he gripped one of the tendrils holding him and used all the strength, he could muster to rip the tendril and luckily enough the monster shuddered in pain and lowered him closer to the ground after he constantly kept tearing at it with his newly developed skill.

[You have created the [Laceration] skill!]

Combat Skill

You have learned to focus intense physical power into your hands or weapons to rip or slash an enemy apart.

Kenny mentally dismissed the message before ripping off the final tendril as he stood across from the monster who was shaking again but this time it seemed hostile.

[You have-]

"Deactivate all game messages." Kenny ordered hastily to his strange power that seemed to respond to him and quickly dismiss the game alert. At the same time, Kenny dodged out of the way of another few tendrils aimed at him until one slugged him in the gut and made him feel as if he was hit in the stomach with a bowling ball as he was knocked clear onto his back.

Luckily enough, however. Kenny knew how to fall and quickly regain footing from his training in martial arts since childhood and with focused breath control, he got back up and entered into a standard traditional Kung-Fu stance while gritting his teeth from the pain he felt, however it slowly lessened until the pain faded away as he dodged and got closer and closer to the slime monster before he completely abused his newly gained skill and ripped the monster apart piece by piece until it lowered Santos onto the ground as if to beg for forgiveness, but it got none as Kenny finished ripping it apart into scraps.

Kenny felt his entire being suddenly become refreshed and lively with no pain or even strains from exhaustion after he gained a level up as he noticed his health bar and AP (Action Point) bars refill completely.

"Interesting." Bishop said from behind Kenny, who turned around and was promptly backhanded onto his back. The slap was much harder than it should have been because Kenny's left cheek felt like it had just gotten lit on fire. "A normal human couldn't have done what you just did, so that means you've got something special going on. A metahuman by chance?"

"Leave them alone or I swear I'll-" Joseph said before Bishop turned his head and glared at him.

"You'll what? Overpower me? In case you aren't aware, you are a weak pig fighting against a tiger. My job is to make you fall in line and I don't intend on failing." Bishop said before looking back at Kenny who got up and punched Bishop in the chest a few times before stopping in realization that the punches didn't even phase the man. "Pain won't work so I guess I'll have to take more drastic measures." Bishop said before he grabbed Kenny's neck with one hand and was fully prepared to choke the life out of him until he flinched back as another person entered the magical barrier.

This person didn't seem like a human in fact and materialized near Bishop as a humanoid being of black flames with two crimson eyes.

"It's time to return to the base Bishop. Our objectives have changed." The figure said as Kenny glanced over the figure and saw something rather disturbing.

Dreamslayer, Level: ?

Angorian

"Truly? I would have thought that you'd want more sacrifices before we move onto the next phases of our plan." Bishop replied.

"We have more than enough. Now stop playing with your lesser." Dreamslayer said before vanishing into nothing but embers that in turn became nothingness. Bishop simply let Kenny go before speaking.

"It seems that your lives have been spared. So, enjoy them to the fullest." Bishop said before he also vanished in a flash of light before the magical barrier around them fell apart and they found themselves back in the real world with a lot of questions that needed to be answered.

A/N: So, this is a new DC Story to replace Heroic Adventures fanfic. New stuff and in case you haven't noticed I am throwing in some Dark Souls/Elden Ring vibes as far as magic abilities and stuff is concerned. The power system anyway instead of replacing all magic in DC because that would be impossible.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed it and stick around for more.

Also, diving into DC Comics I found a group called the Extremist and they make for some interesting bad guys, so why not use them.
