Of Feathers And Fate
Summary: Journey over Higurashi Kagome has settled in the past ready to keep moving forward. Yet she is stifled by this peaceful boring life, until one day she feels it. The prickle of magic and the pull of adventure...
In the stillness of a late autumn morning, Kagome Higurashi sensed a faint stirring of magic around the Bone-Eater's Well. It was a sensation she hadn't felt in years, ever since Naraku's downfall and the completion of the Shikon Jewel. Life had settled into a peaceful routine that she had learned to accept, though she couldn't say she fully embraced it. She and Inuyasha remained close friends, but their romantic spark had gradually faded. As for her other comrades—Miroku, Sango, Shippo—they had all found their own paths while Kagome seemed to be stuck in place.
But now, the well's magic called to her once more, as if it knew her longing for something more. Without hesitation, Kagome swung her legs over the edge and let herself fall into the unknown.
To her surprise, she didn't find herself in the past or future like usual. Instead, she was suspended in a realm of deafening silence and unending darkness. The shadows were thicker than midnight and a chill swept over her body. Her heart raced with alarm as she tried to call upon her reiki powers to light her way or protect herself—but they were smothered by this void.
Suddenly, a soft chuckle filled the air around her, coming from all directions at once.
"Be calm, young priestess," a smooth and dark voice spoke. "I see you have answered my summons."
Kagome took a deep breath and scanned her surroundings with fear pulsing through her veins. "Who...are you?"
The darkness shifted and formed a figure with the velvety touch of raven feathers and a crown made of shadows. "I am the Raven Queen," the goddess declared, her voice commanding yet soft. "And I have summoned you for a purpose. Every deity needs a priestess...and a champion."
As she spoke, the shadows at the edge of Kagome's vision morphed into a familiar shape. A man stepped out from the shadows, dressed in leather and with dark hair streaked. He moved like a skilled rogue, his steps silent and graceful. He knelt before the Raven Queen, bowing his head in reverence.
The goddess gestured towards him. "This is Vax'ildan, my champion. And if you accept my offer, he will be your guide on this new path I offer you."
Kagome swallowed, feeling the weight of the Raven Queen's words bearing down on her. This goddess was offering her something beyond the life of a simple village priestess - an adventure she had always longed for, and the freedom she had been yearning for. But this decision was not to be taken lightly. Serving a god meant binding oneself to them forever. She would gain power beyond mortal limits, but at the cost of her own autonomy.
Her freedom.
Could she truly commit her soul and essence to something so all-consuming? Despite her doubts, Kagome felt something stir within her heart - a spark waiting to ignite.
The Raven Queen held out her hand, her gaze sharp and knowing. "The choice is yours, Kagome Higurashi."
Kagome extended her hand slowly, placing it in the goddess's outstretched palm. A surge of power flowed through her body like liquid fire, causing her skin to tingle as she felt her spirit meld with the Raven Queen's presence. The goddess settled within her, their energies intertwining until it was impossible to distinguish Kagome's own power from that of the divine.
Suddenly, her legs gave out, but strong arms caught her and held her steady. Vax lifted her up and cradled her in his arms as she adjusted to the new, wild magic coursing through her veins.
The Raven Queen watched them with a small, satisfied smile. "You will protect her, Vax'ildan. Guide her, teach her. In time, she will be your other half, just as you will be hers."
Vax bowed his head in submission to his goddess's command, feeling the familiar pull of her will. "As you wish, my Queen."
With a wave of her hand, the Raven Queen's magic flared and transported them from the stillness of the astral realm to the physical world. They stood together, Kagome clinging to Vax's cloak for stability as she took in their new surroundings. The shadows of the Raven Queen's power lingered around them like a cloak, binding them together in a shared purpose.
Determination gleamed in Kagome's eyes as she looked up at her new partner and guide. Her new life had just begun, and this time she would embrace it with excitement for the unknown ahead.
