The house was buzzing with energy as Rias and her peerage entered, filling the space with familiar laughter and warmth. Rias moved gracefully through the doorway, her vibrant red hair catching the light as she took in the place. Her gaze softened as she looked around, a gentle smile touching her lips.
"This place really suits you, Shin," Rias said, her voice carrying a warmth only shared between close friends. She reached out, giving him a hug. "You've come a long way since we met, you know."
"Thanks, Rias," Shin replied, his own voice thick with gratitude as he hugged her back. "It feels surreal having all of you here. I wanted a home for a long time, and it wouldn't be the same without you guys to share it with."
Shin's heart swelled with pride as he watched Issei step into his new home. The familiar warmth of his brother filled the room, and the two embraced, sharing a quick laugh. The bond between them was unmistakable; it was as if a tangible strength united them.
"Man, Shin," Issei started, looking around with wide eyes, "this place is amazing. I mean, I knew you'd make it big in Asgard, but this…" He whistled, shaking his head in awe. "You deserve all this. And more, really."
Shin chuckled, clapping Issei on the shoulder. "I couldn't have done any of this without you, Issei. You've pushed me as much as I've pushed you. You've made me prouder than you'll ever know."
Issei beamed, but the hint of emotion in his eyes showed how much the words meant. "You know, there were times I didn't think I could ever reach where I am now, but… having you in my life made all the difference."
"Hey," Shin said with a smirk, "that's what brothers are for, right?"
They shared a laugh, and Shin gestured for Issei to join him in the cozy seating area near the window, where they could look out over the Asgardian hills. Settling in, they launched into a familiar conversation about their training—something that had been a constant in both of their lives.
"So, how's your progress with Balance Breaker?" Shin asked, genuinely curious about Issei's progress.
Issei nodded, his eyes lighting up with pride. "I've been walking around in Balance Breaker all the time now. Even when I don't need it. It's like… it's just part of me now. Feels natural, you know?"
"That's huge progress, Issei," Shin said, nodding approvingly. "When you can maintain that kind of transformation, even casually, it shows real mastery over your power."
Issei scratched the back of his head, a little bashful. "Yeah, it took a lot of practice. But I just kept thinking about how you're always pushing yourself to get stronger, and I thought… well, if Shin's doing it, I have to at least try to keep up!"
They laughed, but beneath the laughter was a bond so deep that words barely did it justice. Both of them had come from humble beginnings, shaped by hardship and fighting for the ones they loved. Their journeys had taken them to unimaginable places, but through it all, they'd remained blood brothers, each one a pillar of strength for the other. And now, standing together in Shin's home, they could feel that they'd reached a new milestone, one earned together.
As the group was talking, Shin looked to the side and noticed Kari peeking her head out from her room, her wide eyes scanning all the unfamiliar faces in the living room. She had never met anyone beyond those in Asgard, and it was clear that the sight of so many people overwhelmed her. She stood partially hidden behind the doorframe, her small hands gripping the edge nervously.
Shin's gaze softened as he looked at her. He stood up, gathering the attention of everyone there. His voice cut through the chatter as he announced, "Hey, everyone. There's someone I'd like to introduce to you all." He then turned back towards Kari's direction, his voice warm. "Kari, could you come out, please?"
All eyes turned in the direction he was facing, and soon enough, they found the small head of the little girl poking out of her room, her gaze cast down shyly. For a moment, she hesitated, her feet glued to the floor.
Rias, sensing the hesitation, was the first to step forward. Her crimson hair fell gently around her shoulders as she knelt down to be at eye level with Kari, her eyes kind and comforting. "Hi, Kari," Rias said softly, her smile warm and welcoming. "You don't have to be shy, okay? We're all friends here, and we're really happy to meet you."
Kari looked up at Rias, her wide eyes still hesitant but no longer scared. There was something about the sincerity in Rias's voice that made her feel safe. She took a hesitant step out, then another, her small feet making soft sounds on the floor.
"That's it," Shin encouraged her gently, his eyes filled with pride. He walked over and extended his hand toward Kari, and after a moment's hesitation, she reached out and took it, her tiny fingers wrapping around his larger ones. He guided her out of the room and into the living area, where all eyes were on her.
"Kari, I want you to meet everyone," Shin said, smiling at her before turning to the group. "Everyone, this is Kari. She's been staying with Asia and me, and now, she's a part of our family."
The warmth that filled the room was palpable. Rias stood beside Kari, her comforting presence helping the little girl feel more at ease. Asia moved closer, her gentle eyes shimmering with pride for Kari. It had taken a lot for Kari to come out here, and Asia knew how important this moment was for her.
Issei, noticing the small girl's nervousness, approached next. He crouched down so he was at her level, giving her a wide, friendly smile. "Hi, Kari! My name is Issei. You know, Shin's my big brother, which makes us kind of like family too, doesn't it?"
Kari blinked at Issei, her lips twitching up into a small smile despite her initial shyness. She nodded slightly, still holding on tightly to Shin's hand. Issei's warmth seemed to ease her worries, his friendly demeanor making him approachable.
"You know," Issei added, his eyes sparkling with mischief, "Shin's a really cool guy. He always takes care of the people he loves, and you're super lucky because he's the best big brother there is."
Kari glanced up at Shin, her eyes wide as she looked back at Issei. "Really?" she asked, her voice soft but curious.
"Absolutely!" Issei nodded, giving her an exaggerated wink. "And now that you're here, I guess we'll have to make sure Shin keeps being the awesome big brother he is."
Rias smiled at Kari, her eyes filled with kindness. "And I'm Rias. I'm a friend of Shin's," she said warmly. "I can already tell you're very brave, coming out here to meet all of us."
Kari glanced at Rias, her smile growing a little more confident. She still held onto Shin's hand tightly, but she lifted her chin a bit, her silver hair glinting in the light. "Th-Thank you," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Shin gave her hand a gentle squeeze and knelt beside her, his eyes meeting hers. "You're doing great, Kari," he told her softly. "These are all people I trust, and now they're here to meet you because you're important to me. And that means you're important to them too."
Kari looked around the room, the encouraging smiles from everyone making her feel more at ease. She nodded, her small voice carrying a hint of warmth. "I… I'm happy to meet you all."
Rias's heart melted, and she stepped closer, wrapping her arms around the little girl in a gentle hug. "We're happy to meet you too, Kari. You're safe here, with all of us."
Kari looked surprised at first, her eyes widening, but then she relaxed into the embrace, her small arms coming up to return the hug. She closed her eyes, a soft smile spreading across her face as she allowed herself to lean into the comfort.
Shin watched the scene unfold, his heart swelling with emotion. This was family. It was more than just blood—it was about love, trust, and creating a place where everyone belonged. He caught Asia's eye from across the room, and she returned his gaze with a bright smile, her pride for Kari shining through.
He held out his other hand to Asia, pulling her closer. She joined them, wrapping her arm around Kari's back, adding her warmth to the moment. Together, they watched as Kari took her first steps into the world of their extended family, knowing that this was just the beginning.
Laughter and chatter resumed, and the room was filled with warmth and light. Shin knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. This was his family—his bond with Issei, his friendship with Rias, the warmth of Asia and the light of Kari—and he would protect them with every ounce of strength he had.
As Shin opened the door, he was greeted by Sona and her entire peerage standing outside, each of them looking excited and curious about their surroundings. Sona, standing at the front with her usual composed demeanor, gave Shin a warm smile.
"Everyone made it!" Shin said, genuinely pleased to see them all.
Sona returned the smile, her tone light. "Of course we did. We wouldn't miss it for the world. Besides," she added, glancing at her peerage, "none of us have been to Asgard before, so this was the perfect opportunity."
With a soft chuckle, Sona stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Shin, surprising him slightly. He quickly returned the hug, savoring the rare show of affection from Sona. When she pulled back, she looked up at him with warmth in her eyes. "You've really outdone yourself here, Shin. This place suits you perfectly."
"Thanks, Sona," Shin replied with a grin, feeling a swell of pride.
Before he could say more, Momo stepped forward and practically flung herself into his arms, wrapping him in a hug that felt a bit more enthusiastic. She pressed against him, and Shin felt her soft curves against him, something he certainly didn't mind. With a smirk, he looked down at her, catching her playful smile.
"Missed me, Momo?" he teased, his tone light and flirtatious.
Momo chuckled, giving him a light squeeze before pulling back, a glint of mischief in her eyes. "I might have. After all, who else is going to put up with my flirting?"
"Hey, don't tempt me," Shin replied with a smirk. "You know I've always got time for you."
Sona cleared her throat, a slight blush on her cheeks as she glanced at the two of them. "Alright, you two, save the flirting for later. We came here to enjoy the evening, not for...whatever that is."
Momo grinned, and Shin only laughed, giving her a playful wink before leading the group inside.
As they entered, they spotted Kari seated on one of the couches with Koneko, a plate of snacks in her lap as she chatted away. This time, she didn't shy away when she saw the newcomers; instead, her eyes lit up, and she offered a big, confident smile.
Momo was the first to approach her, kneeling slightly to meet Kari's height. "Well, who's this pretty little lady?" she asked, her tone soft and friendly.
Kari's eyes sparkled with delight as she replied, "I'm Kari! And you must be Momo!" she declared proudly.
Momo blinked, a little taken aback by the immediate recognition. "You know who I am?"
Kari nodded enthusiastically, her grin growing wider. "Of course! Shin has told me all about you. He talks about all his friends!"
Intrigued, Momo exchanged a glance with the others as Kari began pointing around the room, identifying each of them by name. "You're Saji!" she pointed, earning a surprised nod from him. "And you're Tsubaki! And you're Reya!" Kari went through each name confidently, as if she had met them all before.
Shin watched the interaction with a warm smile, his pride in Kari's newfound confidence evident.
As Kari continued, she looked back at Momo with a big smile. "Shin told me everything! He says he cares a lot about all of you."
Momo's smile softened, and she gave Shin a gentle look before turning back to Kari. "Well, he's lucky to have you, too. You seem like a pretty amazing kid."
Kari blushed a little, looking down shyly for a moment before flashing Momo another grin.
Sona, standing close beside Shin, leaned in and whispered, "Is Kari your first peerage member?"
Shin shook his head slightly, a faint smile on his face. "Honestly, I forget I even have Evil Pieces most of the time," he admitted. "But no, at the moment, Kari isn't part of my peerage. I think I'd rather keep those in reserve, just in case anything...unexpected ever happens to her. You only get one shot at bringing someone back from the dead."
Sona's gaze softened, a hint of respect in her eyes as she nodded thoughtfully. "That's a smart approach," she replied quietly. "Besides, if she's from Asgard, she's probably already got powerful magic in her blood. You wouldn't want to interfere with that natural strength."
"Exactly," Shin agreed, glancing over at Kari, who was still enthusiastically chatting with Momo and the others. "She's got all the potential in the world. I'd rather see her grow at her own pace, with her own strengths, and step in only if she truly needs it."
Sona watched Kari for a moment, then looked back at Shin, her expression softening. "I think you're doing right by her," she said quietly. "She's lucky to have someone looking out for her like you are."
Shin shrugged, but there was a warmth in his gaze as he watched Kari, his thoughts briefly lingering on the journey they'd already shared. "I'd say I'm the lucky one."
Sona's lips curved into a small smile, a knowing look in her eyes as she gave him a gentle nudge.
Shin went to the door as another knock sounded. When he opened it, he found Grayfia and Venelana standing there, looking as dignified as ever. Venelana gave him a warm smile and began by sharing words of wisdom, congratulating him on this new chapter of his life and reminding him that a home filled with friends and family would always be a fortress in itself. He nodded, touched by her sentiment, and welcomed her in.
Grayfia lingered just outside, offering a slight but genuine smile, though her gaze held a hint of reserve. As Venelana entered the house, Grayfia looked at Shin. "Would you mind if we had a quick word first?"
"Of course," Shin replied, closing the door slightly so they had a moment of privacy.
Grayfia's usually calm, composed face softened, and she took a small breath. "I never properly thanked you for...that night. The comfort you offered. It helped more than you might realize. I wanted to say thank you, truly. And…" She hesitated, glancing down before looking back up at him. "I'm also sorry for the times I treated you like the enemy. I misjudged you."
Shin waved it off with a grin, his voice easy and warm. "Water under the bridge, Grayfia. I'm just happy we're friends now."
Grayfia's lips curved slightly, and a hint of mischief sparkled in her usually stoic gaze. "I don't know if I would call it...friends," she murmured, raising an eyebrow just slightly.
Shin chuckled, feeling the weight of the past dissolve between them as he welcomed her into his home.
As they entered, Shin glanced around and asked, "So, where's Sirzechs? I figured he'd come with you two."
Grayfia and Venelana exchanged amused glances. "He's running behind. Something about making an entrance," Venelana explained with a sigh, though her eyes sparkled with amusement.
Just as she finished, a sudden flash of red light filled the room, and Sirzechs appeared, striking a pose… only to realize he was facing the wrong way, staring straight into the hallway wall. He blinked, then muttered, "Crap," quickly turning around to see everyone looking at him, especially Shin, who was watching with barely contained laughter.
Without missing a beat, Shin held up a random card with a big "3" scribbled on it, his face a picture of disappointment. "Pathetic entrance. Needs work."
Sirzechs slumped, putting a dramatic hand to his forehead. "All this effort… wasted," he groaned, before letting out a laugh and shaking his head. "I guess I need some more practice with my entrances if I'm going to match the infamous Shin."
The room filled with laughter, the atmosphere lighthearted as Sirzechs walked over, clapping Shin on the shoulder with a grin. The casual banter and ease between them set the tone for the evening, as old friendships were strengthened and new memories were already being made.
Amid the chatter and laughter, Kari, with a determined look on her face, approached Grayfia and gently tugged on her maid skirt to get her attention. Grayfia, caught off guard, looked down, her surprise quickly softening into a warm smile as she took in the sight of the little girl gazing up at her with wide, admiring eyes. She recalled Sirzechs mentioning that Shin had taken in a young girl named Kari, and here she was, shyly yet boldly seeking her attention.
Kari looked up, her voice soft but excited. "You're Grayfia, right? Shin said there'd be a pretty girl with silver hair, like mine, who'd be coming over!"
A faint blush touched Grayfia's cheeks, and her smile deepened. "Did he now?" she asked, a slight glimmer in her eyes. "He really said that?"
Kari nodded enthusiastically, her hands fidgeting with the edge of her own silver hair. "Yeah! I love your hair! Do you… think you could make mine look like yours?"
Grayfia's expression softened further, the reserved, formal edges she typically maintained melting into pure warmth. "I'd be honored to, Kari," she said, gently taking the girl's hand.
The two settled on the couch, and as the evening unfolded around them, Shin glanced over from his conversation with Sirzechs. He couldn't help but smile as he saw Grayfia seated comfortably, Kari nestled in her lap, her small head tilted as Grayfia carefully worked her fingers through Kari's hair, braiding it into a style that mirrored her own. Kari sat still, completely entranced, her tiny fingers clutching Grayfia's hand as she marveled at the new braid taking shape.
Seeing the two of them, Shin felt a surge of warmth and pride swell in his chest. This place, filled with people he cherished and moments like these, was quickly becoming more than just a home. It was a sanctuary—a place of love and family, built from bonds stronger than blood.
As the evening deepened, Shin's home became a lively gathering place, with laughter and music filling every corner. The flow of guests seemed endless, each new arrival greeted with warmth and excitement. Michael and Azazel arrived together, bringing an air of good-natured rivalry between the heavens and the fallen, while the Norse gods—Thor, Freya, and Odin himself—arrived soon after, adding their own hearty energy to the gathering. The room buzzed with a palpable sense of camaraderie, blending factions and realms that rarely mingled so freely.
In the heart of it all, Shin found himself surrounded by a boisterous circle that included Azazel, Michael, Sirzechs, Thor, and Odin. Each had a drink in hand, and they had quickly settled into a competitive spirit, daring one another to drink stronger and faster with each round. The group swapped stories of their most memorable battles, pranks, and even the mishaps that still managed to bring roars of laughter.
Azazel, ever the instigator, raised his glass with a mischievous grin. "So, Michael, tell me, do angels even know how to have a good time, or are you just here to monitor our every drink?" he teased.
Michael chuckled, his usual serene demeanor replaced with a rare ease. "Even an angel knows when to enjoy a well-deserved drink, Azazel. And believe me, I'm not one to lose a challenge." He took a long sip, meeting Azazel's gaze with a confident glint.
Thor, in his usual boisterous fashion, laughed heartily, clapping Shin on the back hard enough to nearly knock him off balance. "This one here," he declared, gesturing at Shin with his tankard, "can drink like a true Asgardian! We've taken him in as one of our own!"
Shin raised his glass in acknowledgment, grinning. "That's the best compliment I've gotten all night," he replied, sharing a toast with Thor, their mugs clinking together.
Odin, who had been observing with a keen but jovial gaze, leaned in, his voice rich with amusement. "Tell me, Shin," he said, "you're young, powerful, and now building a home here among us. Do you plan to conquer Asgardian drinking customs next?"
Shin smirked, lifting his glass. "If that's a challenge, Odin, I'm ready to accept it."
Sirzechs chuckled, watching the banter unfold as he took a sip of his own drink. "If there's one thing Shin doesn't back down from, it's a challenge. But you all should know," he added, casting a mock-serious look around the group, "he might outdrink us all before the night's over."
As the friendly competition continued, tales from past battles morphed into tales of pranks and humorous mishaps. Azazel recounted a story of an experiment gone wrong, earning hearty laughter and groans from his friends. Michael shared a rare story of his own, one that involved Dohnaseek falling victim to a holy prank gone hilariously awry.
Laughter echoed through the night as drinks were refilled and barriers dropped, old rivalries softened by the warmth of friendship and shared experiences. Each of them, representing different realms, enjoyed a rare night of pure camaraderie, unified by the trust and respect they had for one another and for Shin's growing role in their world.
The party finally began to wind down, the vibrant energy gradually replaced with a comfortable, lingering quiet as most guests took their leave or found a place to rest. Shin surveyed his home, filled with the remnants of laughter and camaraderie that had brightened the night. A few of his closest friends remained, scattered throughout the rooms. Sirzechs and Michael, defeated by their own attempts to keep up with the drinking games, lay sprawled out under the table, their snores breaking the silence.
Grayfia, with a gentle smile on her face, sat nearby on the couch, speaking softly with Rias and Venelena. Kari, who had grown tired as the night wore on, was fast asleep in Grayfia's lap, her little hand clutching the edge of Grayfia's dress, her expression peaceful and content.
Sona and her peerage had said their goodbyes earlier in the evening, and only Rias and Issei had remained, enjoying the final moments of the gathering. Thor and Odin, who had also been among the last to leave, had expressed their appreciation and taken their leave with the promise of more nights like this.
As Shin prepared to begin tidying up, Freya approached him, her usual playful demeanor replaced by an unusual quietness. Her expressive eyes, which typically sparkled with mirth, now held a hint of hesitation.
"Something on your mind, Freya?" Shin asked, lowering his voice so as not to wake Kari or disturb the others. He could sense something weighing on her, and a part of him couldn't help but feel a tinge of concern.
Freya met his gaze, her lips curving into a small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Actually, Shin… yes. I was hoping to talk to you, once things quiet down."
Shin's brows furrowed as he studied her expression more closely. Whatever she had to say, it was clearly something important. But not wanting to add to her unease, he responded with a warm, reassuring smile. "Of course, you're welcome to stay anytime," he said, his voice softening. Then, with a teasing glint in his eye, he added, "And I wouldn't mind if we repeated the last night we spent together."
At his playful smirk, Freya's eyes twinkled slightly, the corner of her mouth tugging upwards as she gave him a small, knowing smile. "Well, you do make a tempting offer, Shin," she replied, her voice regaining a hint of her usual flirtatious tone. But he could tell her mind was elsewhere, and his curiosity only grew as he realized that whatever was on her mind was something of deep importance.
"Let's get everyone settled," he said gently, "and then we'll talk, okay?"
Freya nodded, her shoulders relaxing as she seemed reassured by his warmth and understanding. With his arm lightly resting on her shoulder, they began to help Grayfia settle Kari into one of the guest rooms and said their goodnights to Rias and Issei. Soon, the house grew quiet as the remaining guests retired, leaving Shin and Freya alone in the soft, dimly lit living room.
Shin gestured for her to join him on the couch, and as she sat beside him, he waited patiently, giving her the space to gather her thoughts.
Freya took a steadying breath, her gaze focused intently on Shin as though she were mustering the final bit of courage to voice something momentous. Her normally playful demeanor was absent, replaced by a seriousness that Shin had rarely seen from her.
"Shin…" she began, her voice soft but resolute. "There's something I need to tell you. And… it's something you need to take responsibility for."
Shin's brow furrowed in confusion, his mind racing to piece together what she could possibly mean. "Uh, responsibility?" he echoed, still at a complete loss. "Are you talking about… the night after that ambush? The night we, uh, you know?"
Freya nodded, though her expression wavered, a glimmer of hesitation flashing across her face. "Yes. That night had… unforeseen consequences."
Shin raised an eyebrow, a smirk creeping onto his face as he relaxed back against the couch. "What can I say? I've been told I'm good in bed. But to get even a centuries-old goddess hooked after one night?" He chuckled, his tone dripping with playful arrogance. "Didn't know I was that good."
Freya's serious expression cracked, and she rolled her eyes before reaching over to smack him lightly on the head. "Idiot," she muttered, though there was a hint of fond exasperation in her tone.
"Hey!" Shin rubbed the spot she'd hit, still chuckling. "What? Isn't that what you meant?"
Freya shook her head, her gaze softening with an intensity that silenced Shin's amusement. "No, Shin," she replied, her voice lowering to almost a whisper. "I mean the other thing that can happen when two people, well… when they're together like that." She took a breath, her gaze unwavering as she met his eyes. "I'm pregnant, Shin. You're… you're going to be a father."
The words hit Shin like a punch to the gut, his smug expression vanishing as shock washed over him. He blinked, his eyes drifting past her to stare blankly at the wall, his mind reeling as he struggled to process her words.
Pregnant? Him… a father?
After a long silence, he managed to shake his head, running a hand over his face as he tried to wrap his mind around the idea. "Freya… I… I'm going to need a minute to process this," he said, his voice barely more than a murmur. "How did… I mean, we only… once. And if we were human, sure, but you're a goddess, and I'm… well, I'm not exactly human anymore. I thought… I mean, the chances should've been—"
"Practically impossible," Freya finished for him, nodding in agreement. "Yes, under normal circumstances, the odds would've been infinitesimal. But sometimes, things that should be one-in-a-billion happen anyway." She hesitated, then added with a gentle, almost wistful smile, "I know it's hard to believe, but I'm absolutely certain, Shin. It's yours. You're the only person I've been with in… well, over a century."
Shin exhaled a slow, shaky breath, staring down at his hands as the weight of the revelation sank in. The enormity of it filled him with a complex mix of emotions he could barely begin to name. Shock, disbelief, fear… and something else, something that stirred deep within him, surprising him with its quiet but undeniable presence.
Responsibility. A protectiveness he hadn't felt since he'd taken Kari in, but somehow deeper, more instinctive.
Shin took a steadying breath, his eyes meeting Freya's with a mixture of gratitude and trepidation. "Freya… I think I'm going to need some time to process all of this. It's… well, it's a lot."
Freya's expression softened, a gentle understanding reflected in her gaze. She gave a small nod, her own hand reaching to rest over his. "Of course, Shin. Take all the time you need. I… I needed two weeks myself to come to terms with it and to work up the courage to tell you." She managed a soft smile, her eyes warm with reassurance.
A weight seemed to lift from Shin's shoulders, and he returned her smile, squeezing her hand gently. "Thank you, Freya. For being patient with me… it means a lot." His voice was thick with emotion, yet there was a steady calm as well, an unspoken acknowledgment that this revelation would change both their lives in profound ways.
Freya's fingers tightened around his, and they shared a moment of quiet, a mutual understanding settling between them. For now, there were no plans to make or questions to answer—just a shared acceptance of the uncertain, yet hopeful future ahead of them.
(Scene Break)
Shin spent the next few days at the Gremory Mansion, trying to wrap his mind around the reality of impending fatherhood. It was something he hadn't yet shared with anyone, still grappling with the enormity of the news himself. He'd brought Kari along, much to her excitement. She'd taken a particular liking to Grayfia, practically buzzing with joy at the prospect of spending more time with her.
Kari and Grayfia became inseparable in those days, with Grayfia treating her with a kind, almost sisterly affection that Kari eagerly responded to. Grayfia even let Kari braid her silver hair, and Kari, delighted, had taken to calling her "Big Sister." Shin couldn't help but smile at the scene every time he saw it; there was a warmth and innocence in their bond that seemed to light up the entire mansion.
One evening, Shin found himself lying on a lounge chair on one of the many balconies of the mansion, gazing up at one of the moons hanging in the Asgardian sky. Lost in thought, he barely noticed Sirzechs until the devil strolled over, plopping down in the chair next to him.
Sirzechs tilted his head back, studying Shin with a curious look. "So… you ready to talk about the real reason you're here yet?"
Shin chuckled softly, glancing over. "So you saw through my lie, huh?"
Sirzechs laughed. "Of course. We may not have known each other for centuries, but I think I've come to know you well enough to know when something's weighing on you. Besides," he added with a grin, "in this short time, I've started to think of you like a brother."
Shin smirked, nodding as he looked back up at the sky. "I feel the same way, though let's be clear: I'm definitely the big brother here."
Sirzechs snorted. "Yeah, sure. I'm literally centuries older than you, Shin. That makes me the big brother."
"Age doesn't mean anything in this context," Shin shot back with a mischievous grin. "And besides, I'm taller."
"Yeah, but I'm still older," Sirzechs retorted, crossing his arms. "That has to count for something."
They shared a laugh, their light-hearted banter easing some of the weight Shin had been carrying. For a few moments, they just lay there, the comfortable silence stretching between them as they both gazed up at the moon, lost in thought.
Then, breaking the quiet, Shin said, almost to himself, "She's pregnant."
Sirzechs choked on his breath, quickly sitting up and staring at Shin, wide-eyed. "Who? Rias? Asia? It must be Asia, right? She's human, so the chances are higher with her. Or… could it be Rias? I mean, that's not entirely—"
Shin shook his head, cutting him off. "Neither of them. It's Freya." He let out a sigh, still processing it himself. "I got Freya pregnant."
Sirzechs stared at him in shock, eyes wide with disbelief. He choked again, then sputtered, "What?! Gods have an even lower birth rate than devils! How the hell did you even manage that? How many times did you two…?"
Shin gave him a look. "Once."
Sirzechs just continued to stare, completely speechless. After a long pause, he finally exhaled, shaking his head. "Damn."
For a few moments, Sirzechs sat there, silent and wide-eyed, staring at Shin as though he'd just confessed to slaying a dragon with his bare hands. "Just… once?" he echoed, his voice filled with a mixture of disbelief and, strangely, admiration. "Damn, Shin… you really don't do anything by half-measures, do you?"
Shin let out a soft, weary chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. "Seems that way," he admitted, glancing up at the moon, its soft glow casting a calming light over the balcony. "I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Freya is… she's this ancient goddess, you know? A warrior, a protector. And now, somehow, we're about to have a kid together. It's surreal."
Sirzechs settled back in his chair, a thoughtful look on his face. "You're facing something most people, even those with power like ours, can't even imagine. Gods rarely have children… It's practically unheard of. But here you are, defying the odds again." He shook his head in mild awe. "Do you know what this means, though, Shin?"
Shin raised an eyebrow, looking over at Sirzechs. "I'm guessing it's not just a typical 'congratulations on the new arrival' kind of situation?"
"Not quite." Sirzechs smiled, but there was a depth in his gaze. "This child—your child—is going to be something entirely unique. Half-god, half… well, half everything you are. With Freya's power and yours combined, they'll have a potential none of us can fully understand. It's a tremendous responsibility… and a tremendous gift."
Shin nodded slowly, his fingers idly tracing patterns on the armrest. "I know," he murmured. "And I want to be ready for it. I want to be someone they can look up to, someone they can rely on. This world… it's not a dream anymore. This is real. This is my life now, and my kid's going to be part of it." He paused, glancing back up at the stars. "But I guess that's why I'm here… trying to process it all."
Sirzechs leaned back in his chair, still processing the news. "Freya," he repeated softly, as if saying her name would somehow make it easier to believe. "I mean, of all people, Freya. The goddess of love and fertility, no less…" He shot Shin a bewildered glance. "Do you realize how… monumental this is?"
Shin ran a hand through his hair, exhaling slowly. "Trust me, it's all I've been thinking about these last few days."
Sirzechs gave him a sympathetic look. "And here I was, thinking you were just here for a break from Asgard. But no… you're actually facing fatherhood." He paused, letting the weight of it hang between them. "Have you told anyone else yet?"
Shin shook his head. "You're the first. I needed… time. And some perspective, I guess."
Sirzechs nodded, his expression softening. "I get it. Becoming a parent is… well, it changes everything. In a way, it's a whole new beginning." He looked back up at the sky, the light of the moon casting a soft glow over them. "You're not the same person once you have someone to protect like that, you know?"
Shin let Sirzechs' words settle, feeling the truth in them. As much as he'd fought, trained, and sacrificed in this world, this was something different. It wasn't just about battles or even friendships; this was about family, about being a part of something larger and more enduring.
They sat in silence for a few moments, until Sirzechs broke it with a smile. "Well, if anyone can handle the responsibilities of a god, warrior, and father, it's you, Shin. Just… make sure you don't try to do it all alone, yeah? That's what family and friends are for."
Shin chuckled softly. "You don't have to worry about that. I know I have all of you." He looked at Sirzechs, a small smile tugging at his lips. "And… thanks. For everything."
Sirzechs grinned, giving Shin a light punch on the shoulder. "Hey, that's what brothers are for." Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he added, "Just wait until I tell Rias she's getting an adorable little niece or nephew."
Shin groaned, rolling his eyes. "Let's keep this between us for now. There'll be plenty of time for family announcements once I've… you know, wrapped my head around it."
Sirzechs laughed, clapping him on the shoulder again. "Fair enough. But when you're ready… you know we'll all be there to celebrate with you."
Shin nodded, a sense of calm finally settling over him as they looked out at the night sky. This world, with all its complexities and unexpected turns, had somehow given him a family, a purpose, and now, a future he'd never dared to imagine. And though he knew the journey would be challenging, he also knew he wouldn't be facing it alone.
(Scene Break)
With a light knock, Shin waited outside Freya's quarters, his heart pounding with anticipation and excitement. When the door opened, he was momentarily struck speechless by the sight of her. Freya stood in the soft, ambient light, framed by the doorway. She wore a silk nightie that clung to her curves, a shimmering, delicate fabric that hinted at the lace lingerie beneath. The nightie caressed her form, tracing her hourglass shape, accentuating the gentle slope of her shoulders, the fullness of her chest, and the smooth lines of her waist. Her silvery hair cascaded down her back in soft waves, framing her radiant face, and her eyes sparkled with warmth and curiosity as she looked up at him.
Shin felt a smile spread across his face, a genuine, unrestrained expression, and he took a deep breath, ready to speak the words he'd been holding inside. "We're going to be parents," he announced, his voice filled with joy and determination, his eyes meeting hers with excitement.
Freya's face lit up immediately, her cheeks glowing, her eyes widening in surprise and then softening into pure happiness. Her hand instinctively went to her stomach, a gesture so small yet filled with meaning. She nodded, her own smile growing to match his, and her voice trembled slightly with joy. "Yes, we are."
Unable to contain himself, Shin laughed and stepped forward, sweeping her off her feet and lifting her effortlessly into his arms. Freya gasped in surprise, then joined in his laughter, her body pressing close to his as he spun her around. Her silk nightie fluttered in the air as he turned, and she held onto his shoulders, her fingers clutching at him with both excitement and trust. Her laugh was warm and full, the sound a melody that filled the quiet hallway. As he finally set her down, their eyes met again, and the love and shared happiness in her gaze were undeniable.
Keeping his arms wrapped around her, Shin's smile softened. "Freya," he began, his tone filled with both tenderness and resolve, "I won't stand for you living separately anymore. You're part of my life now—our life. Move into our home with me. Let's start this together."
Freya's face glowed, her lips parting as she took in his words, her breath catching slightly. Her chest rose and fell softly as she processed what he was saying, and her cheeks flushed even deeper. "I would love nothing more," she whispered, her voice soft and full of conviction. Her hand came up to rest on his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath her palm, grounding her in the moment.
Shin leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead, his hand resting at her waist, and they stood together in the doorway, wrapped in each other's embrace. In that shared warmth, they felt the silent promise of what was to come: a life built on love, trust, and family.
For Shin, a deep, lasting peace settled within him, one he hadn't realized he'd been searching for. This was where he was meant to be—by Freya's side, building a future and a family that would shape the life he'd chosen here in Asgard. And as they lingered in each other's embrace, he knew that together, they could face anything that lay ahead.
