(This chapter wouldn't be possible without the help of anonmike217, follow him)
Ainz and his companion watched as the battle continued. At first he arrived to fulfill the promise of his long time friend of Touchme. Not really knowing if he actually knows his real name but it doesn't matter. Finding someone like him but what are his true intentions he wondered. Is he here for conquest and how close he is from his home? It couldn't be far from his location. Kroq-gar was doing the same as both were contemplating after exchanging their greetings finding the demon next to him be named Albedo.
Looking down on all them with contempt like all of their kind do. Both groups said nothing for the seconds thinking they were playing a game of mental chess with each other trying to figure out how to gather as much information as possible. The two staring at each other were playing a mental chess game but both moved their pawns once and just came up with blanks on how to best start this conversation. They would have been there for about an hour until one of the newly designated villager chiefs came up to them panting a bit from having a close call of getting his head chopped off and looked at the two groups saying nothing to each other.
Chief: Um, excuse me sirs, why did you come here?
The two took a glance at the chief leader as well as the seconds did then went back to their staring contest. Ainz and Kroq-gar were tapping their fingers on the mental chest game they were having before Ainz got up from the chair and left. Leaving Kroq-gar to have the honor to speak for he saved the village. Kroq-gar nodded and turned to the chief looking a bit ragged and some cuts he could live with.
Kroq-gar: I have come to this village because my scouts have spotted raiders coming to pillage the land, I will not stand idly by as your village becomes another mark of conquest
The villagers gathering around the two groups looked at each other and nodded. Content with his answer of coming to their aid. All looked at the giant man who walked forward to address himself.
Ainz: As well as I, I could not stand by and watch innocent people be murdered, call it a "moral obligation"
Kroq-gar looked at Ainz as he did his. Kroq-gar found truth in his words but when the word moral obligation came up. He had a hint of fulfilling a promise to someone. Ainz in turn picked through Kroq-gars words as he was also telling the truth but why use marks of conquest rather than a pillaging run. Both hmpth at that. Each has their secrets. Ainz decided to be the one leading the conversation.
Ainz: Be at ease, this village is under my protection, you no longer need to be scared
Kroq-gar raised a scale brow at that as he was the one doing the work but it looked like he was trying to be genuine with his words. Walking to the villagers as he held his hands out to calm them down but his sheer size and stature of being an unknown man claiming to be their savior scared them for a bit. Shrinking back as this might be a scheme or plot just like the Re-Estate and Baramuth empires. Ainz was about to say something but Kroq-gar raised his metal gauntlet using the reinvigorating effects of a portable solar engine. A yellow crystal blessed and crystalized by the winds of magic. All watching the villagers' colors returning to their eyes and skins. Feeling more energetic but their wounds remain. At least they won't be limping home and all turned to Kroq-gar who put away the solar engine.
Kroq-gar: Relax, my friends, we mean you no harm, both of us wish to see this village safe under our care, I did my part and I shall leave the second part to him
The villagers focused on his words and noticed this lizard...men...lizardmen helped them get rid of the raiders that were attacking this village. If he trusts him then they should too. Both smiling and moving to get rid of the wreckage and wounded to be patched up. Kroq-gar and Ainz looked at each other for a moment. Ainz managed to figure out that it's his turn to protect the village along with Kroq-gar having some magical artifacts at his disposal. Scratching his chin as he watched as the chief was talking about how they should discuss things at his hut. Ainz nodded, muttering to himself before following along as the others went ahead.
Ainz: Hmmm, an interesting person I've found so soon
Kroq-gar, Ainz, Gor-rok, and Albedo were all in the chief's hut. Albedo not being impressed as this was a shack looking like a barn already sullying the image of Lord Momonga. The other three were just meh that this is a tiny village so it's to be expected. Plus this place was attacked so if there was a place to be a proper chief hut then it would be one of the first to be burned. As evidenced by the wounded and healers just lounging around on the hay at the far end of the hut. Ainz was the first to discuss having already made a fake story beforehand.
Ainz: I am a hermit from the forest, unused to the outside world. I have been detached from it for quite a while, I and my companion wish for knowledge of this country and the ones neighboring it. That will be enough compensation
The chief nodded content at that answer but not Kroq-gar. He knows there were some discrepancies on being just a hermit of a forest. Usually they were more witch and brewmaster like. Such as those of the witches of kislev. Even his size along with their companion dressed in pure plate have to be somewhere near the mountains or have an undercity nearby. But taking advantage of the chief ignorance of the wider world nodded at that explanation.
Chief: Very well, and what of you, sir Kroq-gar? Is there anything we can help you with?
Kroq-gar nodded and stepped up, having the eyes of the other two to pick apart what he said. Aiming to say just enough without revealing anything.
Kroq-gar: Just a wandering group of travelers, we seemed to wander far from home and we are unfamiliar with this landscape, could you provide us with a layout of the general location
The chief nodded that wandering adventure groups have been a thing in the past before. Ainz meanwhile was picking apart the words. A wandering group far off of their homes might be a standard for lizardmen. But from the way they dressed and wield weapons of war. They had to disembark or settle near here. Along with their regimented march and combat maneuvers. Too uniformed and well drilled to be of any regular traveling group. Usually beings of this size would have an equivalent of horses or baggage trains yet they seemed to carry none. The chief went through his things and found a map that might be outdated and placed it on the ground.
Chief: Well, this place is sandwiched between the two empires, the one on the right is the Barhauth empire, those that have attacked us wearing blue and metal armor, the one on the left being the Re-Estize kingdom which controls us for this season
The four nodded looking at the explanation seeing they might be at the border of two large empires that go to war every season or so. This might be one of the skirmishes. Then noticed that the chief pointed his finger to the south.
Chief: Down south is the Slane Theocracy, the supposed protector of humanity but...hmm
Gripping his fingers for a bit that the rumored pillagers of the north managed to get into the border unopposed was concerning. The four picked up on that and might have a hint that it might be their doing or the pillagers dodged the patrols but that proved a little too unlikely.
Chief: This is all I know of course, but if you head here at the nearby capital called E-Rantel, you might get more information from their adventurer's guild
Ainz and Kroq-gar nodded at their next potential location of information gathering. Both have the same thoughts.
Ainz and Kroq-gar: 'Seems adventurers are a thing here as well'
After collecting the -gar and Nakai stood off to the side as the villagers buried and grieved their dead. Gor-Rok was off somewhere with Oxyotl checking out villages other than this that had been attacked. Ainz and Albedo were there to spy on him some more. Well one of them Ainz was looking at the village on how they grieve. Kroq-gar hmpth at that. Already hidden tension is growing and might have to come to blows in the near future. But enough about that as he noticed the young female he saved earlier crying alone in front of four graves. Aiming to shake off the subterfuge another day he made ready for Enri who noticed Kroq-gar and made her way over to him.
Enri: Thank you, sir, thank you
It was barely a whisper, Still grieving from the loss as she and Nemu are the only ones left in this world. Kroq-gar nodded. Having long experience of widows and sole survivors experiencing this type of melancholy. Waiting for her to leave but noticed Enri kept her head down for a while and then threw herself at him in an embrace. Kroq-gar was slightly surprised but not unexpected. Returning the gesture as she held on tight.
Both letting the moment passed naturally. His senses picking up on Albedo shuffling, not interested in this gesture but noticed Ainz was watching them. Making no gesture of disinterest like the others of his kind but just watched. Enri letting go rubbing her eyes, she thanked Kroq-gar one last time before heading off to Nemu who was also grieving to give her a hug. Kroq-gar turned around watching as Ainz and Albedo were going somewhere else than here. Leaving Kroq-gar and Nakai to chat for a bit about them.
Nakai: Kroq-gar, those two
Looking back and forth and sniffing the air to see if there were anyone eavesdropping then leaning down his head to whisper. But Kroq-gar beat Nakai to the punch.
Kroq-gar: Yes, I know. I sensed it, too
Nakai nodded and moved his long axe near his hand.
Nakai: Should we fight before-
Kroq-gar shook his head no.
Kroq-gar: She's on a leash right now, demonic but no taint of chaos yet, have Oxyotl send some of his Chameleons, the best of the best to watch their movements, leave some of the others at the village as just in case
Then looking off scratching his chin thinking about this lich sorcerer being unlike the tomb kings, or any other necromancer. Having a little more autonomy and some wants even friends if his guesses are right.
Kroq-gar: I'm more concerned about this sorcerer, Ainz Ooal Gown
Nakai hmpth at that.
Nakai: What's there to be concerned about? His summons will be a delay, but you win when face to face with him
Kroq-gar thought for a moment. Yes, going over his experience destroying an undead creature controlling skeletons is usually the way to go but they seemed to have an endless amount of magic on hand. But something about him even his hands are filled with rings rather than the singular one like the other sorcerers. He shook his head.
Kroq-gar: That might be true, but he's more powerful than any of our vampiric sorcerers we slain
Gesturing to his hands as to provide visual aid for Nakai.
Kroq-gar: His fingers are filled with rings then any of our sorcerers, one of them might conceal his magic along with another that might have him returned to life if not taken from his fingers
Nakai nodded, remembering rumors of a certain vampire that came back after being killed before. Along with spies and other selected individuals wanting to hide away from unseen eyes.
Nakai: Yes. Should we get Mazdamundi?
Kroq-gar shook his head.
Kroq-gar: No, at the moment he isn't like the others. Keep an eye on him
Nakai moved out of his whispering position and moved away from the mass funeral aiming to find one of Oxyotl chameleons skulking around. Or running off into the woods to wander back to the temples again. Thankfully he managed to find the skinks further in the woods to speak to. Kroq-gar looked around, finding Ainz and Albedo looking over at Kroq-gar on a different part of the hill. Both gave one last look before Kroq-gar left to watch over the villages and wait for Oxyotl and Gor-Rok to come back. Leaving the two to discuss their interesting guests.
Albedo: What do you think my lord? They hide more than they let on
Ainz nodded.
Ainz: Yes, just like us
Turning to Albedo who looked up.
Ainz: We must assume they have the same idea as us, we need more information before we act, Make sure the counter measures are deployed
Albedo nodded.
Albedo: Understood my lord
Leaving to a more private spot to send a message. Leaving Ainz alone to ruminate on the new arrivals. Thinking that he only came here to settle accounts with touchme. And yet he found someone much more than he let on to be. Laden with gold and blue scales. Even his arm showed him that it was not just a simple gift from a kingdom. But there's just too many things to be unknown feeling stress on his bones. Looking off in the distance he thought for a moment about how he has to be the leading figure of this new world and many are counting on him.
Ainz: 'I'm so out of my depth here'
Kroq-gar was looking over the villagers repairing the buildings at the outskirts. Mostly to try and keep himself busy as he waited on reports of his friends to make it back here. Looking around to find Ainz or Albedo but they were nowhere to be seen. Then looking off to the road noticing figures were coming out of the woodwork. Narrowing his eyes he noticed it was the horses thanking his new vision managed to spot far off objects. Looking up seeing Oxyotl was sitting on the roof before disappearing he nodded and ran off trying to find the village chief. Finding him surrounded by other villagers who were going over the damages.
Kroq-gar: Chieftain, there seems to be trouble heading this way
The chief went into action immediately and looked over to Kroq-gar as the other villagers went off to get their makeshift weapons.
Chief: Really? What do you mean?
Kroq-gar elaborated as he was searching for Ainz and Albedo.
Kroq-gar: A group of knights on horseback are approaching this village and fast
The chief spat out as this village had been attacked again.
Chief: Damn, this doesn't seem good
Ainz and Albedo headed over having finished their reports being sent to Nazarick to beef up the spy and anti spy agency.
Ainz: Village chief, is there something wrong here?
The chief quickly looked up to the two thankful they were here.
Chief: Sir Ainz, thank goodness! Sir Kroq-gar here has just informed me that more knights are heading toward the village at breakneck speed
Ainz hmm. Pretending to be ignorant as he already sent some shadow demons to scout ahead trying to find anything else. But sensing nothing other than the horsemen coming to this village.
Ainz: Is that so? Sir Kroq-gar, is that true?
Kroq-gar nodded.
Kroq-gar: Of course, do you take me for a liar?
Kroq-gar played a bit coy trying to judge his reaction. Nakai, managing to get the tail end, ran forward and gripping his axe close to his hand and tracing his thumb across his throat towards Ainz for not trusting his lord at his word. Albedo growled at Nakai for threatening her love along with moving her halberd out and planting it to the ground. Both were at a stare down like two predators of the jungle intruding on their hunting grounds. Ainz and Kroq-gar however just eyed each other, trying to figure the other out. Ainz was taken a little back as he just wanted to make sure the information was accurate. He isn't here to play more mind games. He waved it off.
Ainz: No, no it isn't that, just wanted to be sure, rest assured, I...We will handle the situation
Both of them looked to their secouns and defused the situation. The two looked at them before grunting and all headed to the edge of the town. Followed along with the chief and some villagers to wait on the approaching knights. It doesn't take long for them to arrive. Making way for their leader, a more muscular man of around thirty years old. Being a sunbathed skin with noticeable winkles showing that he was a warrior of a hundred battles. With armor of steel and around his chest and pants by decorative belts of red. Of gloved and steel arm guards and pants of prone and dark red boots up to his knees. He looked down below as the others saw him having short, trimmed, black hair, and black eyes that were as sharp as a sword. He addressed himself before the gathered crowd.
Gazef: I am the chief royal warrior of the Re-Estize kingdom, Gazef stroganoff, the king has ordered me to hunt down the knights that have been attacking surrounding villages, your people
The chief bowed his head.
Chief: Thank you, general Gazef
Gazef looked over at the four seeing they were not from this place. Being way too far south for the lizardmen and beings of tall and metallic stature. He asked his questions.
Gazef: Are you the Chief of this village? Who are these two standing beside you? The man seems peculiar
The chief gestured to the two.
Chief: These two saved-
Before he was interrupted by Ainz aiming to introduce themselves.
Ainz: No need to worry about that now
Kroq-gar stepped up to the plate by placing his hand over his chest.
Kroq-gar: Indeed, my name is Kroq-gar, a lizard warrior far from here
Kroq-gar making way for Ainz to take the lead.
Ainz: And I am Ainz Ooal Gown, it is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, General, I am a simple magic user who stumbled upon this town while it was being ransacked by those knights
Gazef: What?
The Gazef said as he hopped down from his horse and stood before the two.
Gazef: These people would've been lost without you two, thank you, sir Ains and sir Kroq-gar
Both were about to accept Gazef thanks but a Knight was coming by as he was shouting something.
Knight: General!
A single soldier approaches Gazef from behind in a hurry standing tall and gives out his report.
Knight: We spotted a large army of unknown origin, they are surrounding the village even as we spoke
The humans gasped while the more non-human were not surprised at this. Nakai licks his teeth on foes to snack on like Albedo is doing underneath her helmet. While Ainz and Kroq-gar pondered their thoughts.
Ainz: 'More?! But Kroq-gar stopped the raiding force?'
Kroq-gar: 'So the raiding force was fodder, explains how they got so close, but it looks like it's time to make his leave'
Turning to Ainz.
Kroq-gar: I believe it's your turn Ainz
Ainz,Chief,Gazef: Huh!?
The three said in unison. Kroq-gar realized that he was being somewhat rude in leaving and explained.
Kroq-gar: I am a traveler by heart, there are more threats that are calling for my aid and I cannot abandon them
Looking at Ainz who stared back.
Kroq-gar: I would not have done this at the last moment, but I believe you can take care of it, if you can, of course
The Chief and Gazef were blinking in surprise, but Ainz knew the real reason. He had been issued a challenge.
Ainz: You're right, the village will be safe, don't worry, I will protect it
Gazef nodded along with the chief not detecting the hidden barb and challenge that was issued.
Gazef: Very well then, I wish you the best of luck
Kroq-gar: And I to you
Kroq-gar nodded his head and looked to Ainz who looked back.
Kroq-gar: Perhaps we can meet again someday, in better circumstances
Ainz hmpth at that aiming to add a little barb in there as well.
Ainz: Perhaps, I would appreciate what you consider a home in such a far off place
Both chuckled at that. Then shook hands departing to reach their seconds who walked off to do a bit of show off by comparing their weapons and armor. Even throwing out some barbs at each other about their kill counts.
Kroq-gar: Nakai, it's time to go.
Kroq-gar looked over, holding his axe.
Nakai: Of course, My lo...
Kroq-gar: Ahem
Kroq-gar interrupted as he needed this to be a secret.
Nakai: I mean, very well
With one last look at Albedo who was grinning underneath her helmet. Making sliding her thumb across her throat before being bumped by Ainz to stop that. Nakai chuckled and followed Kroq-gar out of the village and into the forest. Following Nakai as he has this handy feature of teleporting across the jungles by simply walking and thinking about any location he visited. Thinking it's called 'Forest Walk' or 'Wandering Jungles.' Whatever it was, they are home.
Well at the foot of the home as they have to walk up the many steps and mountain trail that was covered by Skink priests already making their work of hiding this place. Not in the mood to walk all the way up he stepped forward and in an instant they both teleported into a room where the more mortal of them lived. Taking a look around finding the teleporter pad having the symbol of a human face in a crude fashion. Having a bit of a helmet on it and looking forward to finding the stone doors shifting back revealing a room of gold with Maids and Butlers lined up in neat rows bowing as their masters returned.
But more importantly two figures he considered his friends. One being a male having a fancy butler suit but worn in by the years of life but he was just as capable of fighting like the others despite only his hair of three lines on top of his head and the rest being a well combed hair at the back with a mustache. The other a women as well as being a half dragon as evidenced with her black and red tail and wings across her stomach. Being well dressed as a maid having glasses and draconic hair style but a face quite human. Both bowed as is their job of being head butler and maid of this estate.
Alfred,Olivia: My lord, welcome back
Kroq-gar: Alfred, Olivia!
He chuckled, giving both a hug as they hugged back. Chuckling for a bit.
Kroq-gar: Thought you two were somewhere else
Breaking their as they smiled.
Alfred: We thought so two but we managed to make it to the teleporter in time
Olivia cleaned her glasses and put them back.
Olivia: Indeed, we are missing some of our staff as they are on the lower levels of the temple slumbering like the slann, it will take some time for us to get back in full capacity
Kroq-gar nodded as Nakai stepped out of the teleporter being fanned down by the butlers and handed drinks by the maids. Kroq-gr looked at Nakai as he was drinking some drinks through a straw.
Kroq-gar: Nakai, you did well back there
Nakai gulped down the drinks as he looked back.
Nakai: I only did as you commanded, my lord, which is not much
Thinking about how his commands were basically to go here and murder. Kroq-gar chuckled at that.
Kroq-gar: And you did admirably, head off to the lower temples to see if your presence can wake the skinks up
Nakai nodded and headed off grabbing some maids and butlers for them to ride on him for convenience sake. Kroq-gar shook his head that he thinks the humans are skinks somewhat. Ignoring how the maids and butlers are not protesting instead wanting to hop on a giant crocodile like skinks. He turned his head to the two.
Kroq-gar: Now then Alfred, Olivia, anything to report
Alfred nodded, aiming to give his report first.
Alfred: Of course my lord I have been informed, SkekTek has created a new form of transportation
Olivia grabs a crystal on her blouse as she holds it near her eye.
Olivia: And that Urtin has created a new type of crystal
Kroq-gar scratched his chin.
Kroq-gar: Hmm...I see I will check it out later, In the meantime see if you can get all hands on deck, We are on the other side of the world right now and we might have only half of what we usually got, see if you can run inventory and activate the higher and lower levels of New Hexoatl
The two bowed and exited the maid room. Leaving Kroq-gar to his devices. More importantly going back to the teleporter room to teleport to where Mazdamundi was at. Seeing him sitting and meditating on the winds of magic. He sat down next to him and relaxed. Trying to remember the lessons taught to him. Or just clicking on the skill point tree. He closed his eyes and opened his mind to see through the eyes of the Chameleon skinks. Watching as Ainz discusses battle plans with Gazef.
Kroq-gar: Let's see what you're capable of Ainz Ooal Gown
Through the scouts eyes he saw something intriguing to Kroq-gar. Ainz swapped places with Gazef who was about to die by angelic blade. Finally getting to the good part watching Aina tanked hits from two angels looking more white armored crosses with angelic wings on the back. Noticing these summons were not from Warhammer and being dispatched by a hellfire spell to dispatch a large angel. Tanking a spell that looked to be an even more powerful attack from the larger angel.
Noticing that Albedo went berserk of her own lord being scratched after facing the euphoria of true pain. He smirked on how there will be more stronger beings then these lesser sorcerers. After that bit of bickering the large angel was destroyed with a black hole with the moonlit sky cracking to pieces. Rolling his eyes that this supposed angelic group saw what would be considered a greater demon spell cast. Finally noticing that his assumption of him being a lich was confirmed as he went about him announcing his presence and taking off his mask. Allowing Albedo to go dispatch them however she pleased. Kroq-gar nodded thinking that was enough and opened his eyes.
Kroq-gar: Ainz Ooal Gown, an Elder lich, and very powerful sorcerer...we'll be meeting again very soon, I'm sure
Now getting up and walking along the grass flooring and feeling the cool air at the side of the pond being attended by skinks moving some ice blocks and wood for the fires. He looked to Mazdamundi who opened his eyes.
Kroq-gar: So what do you think about Ainz?
Mazdamundi moved up on his chair as he floated.
Mazdamundi: Untested, but it has potential
Kroq-gar nodded and looked to see Mazdamundi was on the teleporter pad looking at him.
Kroq-gar: And me?
Mazdamundi hovered for a moment. Contemplating for a bit. Then smirked.
Mazdamundi: A little warm-blooded, but good enough
Teleporting out of Kroq-gar sight. He sighed as he rubbed his head. At least he isn't going to be killed outright. Stepping onto the teleporter pad. He teleported to the hallway of stone pillars and golden weaves being hung up by skinks as the place looked bleak of being just brown hallways. Walking through the hallways hoping he managed to find the researchers that would assist him in his new world.
Enter through a room where he saw small to medium animals through clear glasses with some at the top opened for food and water to feed by them. With birds and large animals in their appropriate cages resting on the side. Along with tables and tools next to breakers and scientist equipment on the tables. Finally walls of diagrams and sketches detailing many creatures and crystals with side notes and written potential experiments. Walking through the room and feeding the lizards some insects from a bowl placed on the side. He heard a familiar voice.
SkekTek: Ahhh...emperor, I'm grateful for your presence
Kroq-gar turned around to find a hunched over bird with green robes covering his body, Along with alchemist tools strapped on his body. A large triangle crest was hung over his body in resemblance to wings. Holding his orange hands together and looking at his emperor with his mechanical and regular eye. Kroq-gar smiled, putting the last of the insects at the animal glasses.
Kroq-gar: Ahhh SkekTek, Alfred has told me you have something to show me
SkekTek nodded and gestured behind him.
SkekTek: Yes my emperor, follow me
Kroq-gar followed Skektek heading to the teleporter pad next to the hallway next to the spa. Both stepped onto the pad and teleported to the entrance of a medium size room with skinks moving to and through from a door next to them. Stepping through the room they entered a giant room filled with beasts and dinosaurs being tended by skinks from the giant Carnosaurs to small cold ones.
Walking for a bit they walked past the many beasts and into a room next to the animal enclosure to a big room full of equipment and tools known as Skektek engineering room. Carved out to create vehicles using metal, beast, and magic to build and improve the existing animal stock piles. Looking around finding many of the supposed vehicles in their planning phase there was one that stood out was a vehicle that was covered with a big blanket. Skektek rubbed his hands together and walked to the blanket.
SkekTek: My emperor, what you are about to see will revolutionize all transportation
Taking a moment of silence for dramatic effect.
SkekTek: My emperor, I give you the carriage
Grabbing the end of the blanket pulling it over the big vehicle reveals a giant carriage built by skink artisans to be a bit more of an organic design but laced with gold highlights. Having two wheels at the front and a large one at the back. Kroq-gar stepped forward, looking around and analyzing its features.
Kroq-gor: This seems interesting.
Putting his hand on his chin. SkekTek nodded and went through the carriage's features.
SkekTek: It is my emperor, through my studies on the Armalig I have found out that they can be used as wheels so I have made this carriage
Tapping at the wheels to wake the Armalig or giant pill bugs who stirred for a moment before being fed by grass and slept again.
SkekTek: The Carriages have side doors that can fold open
Opening the door back and forth like regular doors.
SkekTek: Despite the design the carriage is just some wood and stone, not an organic creature
Now climbing up to the carriage and fiddling around the tools and pulling a lever. With that the wheels had a humming noise and the creatures awoke and rolled up into the ball forms ready to move out.
SkekTek: The carriages need no driver as the Armani's know where to go, all you have to do is pull a lever my emperor
Kroq-gar look at Skektek with a proud smile on his face
Kroq-gar: You have done well, SkekTek you have earned the title of head scientist
Chuckling to himself.
Kroq-gar: You never cease to amaze me
SkekTek smiled and rubbed his head sheepishly hoping down from the carriage.
SkekTek: Thank you, my emperor
Kroq-gar nodded and headed off to do another visit.
Kroq-gar: Now I must go see your other half, UrTih
SkekTek bowed as Kroq-gar left for the teleporter pad past the animal enclosure.
SkekTek: I understand my emperor, I will continue my research to aid you in anything
Kroq-gar looked back and waved goodbye.
Kroq-gar: Thank you SkekTek, try and find different variants of the vehicles while you're at it
Skektek nodded and pondered on the carriage transport capacity or animals that would be needed for these supposed variants. But first he needs to improve in the design as the doors make a creak noise and he doesn't like the sound. With that Kroq-gar left the engineering room and headed off to the pad. Teleporting to the hallway for a bit walking back to SkekTek room. Locating the door next to it opened and entered the room of UrTih. Known as the head alchemist of all alchemy and potions. Looking around and finding books on the top ceiling. Jars filled with different types of animals and plants around the room. With some maps and alchemy tools set on the tables in neat rows. Walking for a bit, spotting UrTih, a long white haired four armed creature with a handkerchief around his head and moderate clothing made out of fine silk huddling at a table reading a book with the other arms crafting a crystal. Approach UrTih put away the book and crystal walked around the table and bowed.
UrTih: lord Kroq-gar, it is an honor to meet you
Kroq-gar: The honor is all mine, Olivia said that you have something to show me
UrTih: Yes my lord, please follow me.
As you follow UrTih to an empty room filled with crystals and dummies, something caught your eye on a table with some interesting crystals. UrTih then approaches the table, grabs one of the crystals, and walks back to me.
UrTih: Lord Kroq-gar, it is an honor to meet you
Kroq-gar nodded.
Kroq-gar: The honor is all mine, Olivia said that you have something to show me
UrTih gestured to the teleporter pass at the hallway near the spa to use it again.
UrTih: Yes my lord, please follow me
Following UrTih both were teleported to the entrance of the doors. He opened the door revealing the training grounds of Saurus and Skinks making the purpose known as weapons of war. Spending time refining and perfecting their craft of spear throwing and shield and spear combat. Walking past the Saurus being drilled in marching formation they entered a room at the end of the hallway filled with crystals and dummies. Some were chiseled and moved out of the room by Skinks and Kroxigors picking up the bigger ones out of the room. Being guided to a table having a single crystal at the middle of the table being held up by handheld metallic structures. While the others were laid on the side. UrTin approaches the table and grabs the crystal on the metallic structure, and walks back to Kroq-gar.
UrTin: I have studied many properties of the crystal. With this knowledge I think I will manage to change it
Kroq-gar: Change you say?
Kroq-gar said while tilting his head. UrTih pointed to a clearing nearby the dummies.
UrTih: Yes change, observe
Then threw the crystal at the nearby dummies but instead of shattering, the crystal began to shift and transform. By growing and shifting using its two growing stubs and jumping up from its growing stubs now grown into two enlarged legs. Then it focused on enlarging the body and outstretched its two arms, and finally popped its head along with a giant crystal outstretched on its back. After being given a command by UrTih who only pointed. It turned around and swung its arm a bit slow but made up for it in power by demolishing the first dummy on the first strike. Then demolished the second dummy on the second strike. And finishing it off by slamming his fists to the ground causing the dummies to fall over to the ground. It stood up while being a bit hunched over from the crystals as it finished its assigned commands. UrTih then looked at me.
UrTih: As you can see, with basic commands it can attack anything that deems a threat to you, along with simple labor
Kroq-gar placed his hand on his chin already thinking of some possibilities to assist with the Kroxigors in their hauling.
Kroq-gar: Is that so?
UrTih nodded.
UrTih: yes my lord, it will follow any commands. So long as you're not worried about speed that is.
Both watching as the Golem was trudging along being ordered to put the dummies back into their places. Having a bit of trouble as the Kroxigors out paced him but was assisted by skinks who handed him the broken dummies so he could plant them.
Kroq-gar: I see...well done. UrTih you have truly earned the title of head alchemist.
UrTih bowed graciously.
UrTih: I'm honored, my lord
Kroq-gar looked around, seeing the skinks were making their own version of golems by chisling them out of the surrounding materials and ore. Then sweeping the smaller pieces to be used later. Giving Kroq-gar an idea.
Kroq-gar: Now I must leave now, UrTih continue your work on these golem and try to figure out a variant that uses the smaller crystals.
Pointing to the skinks with UrTih following noticing the Skinks were zapping the smaller ones with lighting that were floating for a bit before going inert. Writing down on their notes they are on the right track but something is missing. UrTih nodded, figuring out what Kroq-gar was trying to tell him.
UrTih: I will my lord, I'll see if i can make a smaller variant that flies.
And with that Kroq-gar left the Alchemist to do his work on the golem and variants. Walking past the training rooms and into the golden halls. Making his way or wandering around to re-familiarize himself in his temple city. Seeing most of it intact and managed to wander into the dining room with sets of golden tables, wooden chairs and golden chandeliers overhead. Being packed to the brim with Skinks, Saurus, and Kroxigors eating their meals of meat, insects, and leaves.
Walking around for a bit he noticed Nakai was disembarking the last of the maids and butlers who arrived here to do some serving. Not being able to talk to Nakai as he was being swam by skinks and the help thanking him for the ride. Opting to approach one of the butlers who was moving to help with the kitchen before he stopped in place. Taking a bow as Kroq-gar stands in front of him.
Butler: Lord Kroq-gar, it is an honor to meet you
Kroq-gar nodded but there was one thing that needed to be done for the day before things settle down.
Kroq-gar: Thank you, but I need you to do a task for me
Butler: Anything my lord
The butler replied. Kroq-gar thought for a moment of who was the best to send a message. Then finding the two most fitting for the job. Albeit could find someone better but at the same time they are going to a supposed den of a powerful sorcerer and they need to fight their way out if war comes soon.
Kroq-gar: I need you to tell SkekGra and UrGoh to meet me at my throne room, I have a mission for them
Butler: It shall be done, my lord
The butler replied and then bowed. Now leaving to go find SkekGra and Urgoh. In the Meantime Kroq-gar headed to the kitchen counters waiting in line as the servers were giving out their meals for the day. As well as giving him time to see what type of specials they were serving.
Kroq-gar: Hmm. I wonder if sausages with a side of potato wedges is part of the menu.
Kroq-gar sat in the throne room after having his meal of sausages and potato wedges. waiting for SkekGra and UrGoh. Thinking about how to best use his forces along with any logistical problems that will crop up. Needing to expand fast before war starts but not too early as having forces be outstretched and outmaneuvers will be a death sentence. Thinking of checking in with Mazdamundi and Oxyotl to see if they have found anything interesting. His thoughts were muddled as the fast footsteps approached the doors. Sitting up as the doors started to open and at the entrance of the throne there was SkekGra, A bird or Skeksis as his race was called. Hurried over to Kroq-gar and bowed.
SkekGra: I'm here as you requested
Kroq-gar looked him up and down being covered in robes having red covering across his chest having a large necklace of an eye. Holding together his red open mitten gloves. Looking up with a smile having what looks like to be a large nail right on top of his head and three painted slashes with white around the edges. With a bit of fur showing his neck and clothing. Nodding once and noticed UrGoh is late as usual.
Kroq-gar: Thank you SkekGra, now where is UrGoh?
Hearing the slow and lethargic footsteps as he walked through the opened doors as the guards at the entrance closed them. UrGoh makes his appearance as slow as possible. Shuffling along with his robes and his top knot. Moving ever more slowly as he noticed SkekGra was growing impatient.
SkekGra: Ahh! can you be any slower-Don't answer that
After about a minute UrgGoh bowed and looked up announcing his presence in the slowest way possible.
UrGoh: I...am...here...my...lord
He would have raised an eyebrow. If he has them. Maybe he has scalebrow but accurate terminology for later. Along with thoughts UrGoh might be high off the pipeweed again. He brushed it off.
Kroq-gar: I see. Anyway, I have a task for both of you.
SkekGra bowed, aiming to please the one who gave them a home and welcome them back to the new skeksis society.
SkekGra: What is your bidding, my lord
UrGoh being UrGoh replied slowly giving SkekGra all the more infuriated.
UrGoh: Yes...what...is...it...?
Kroq-gar held his hand out getting the physical copy teleported to him while Mazdamundi beamed his information into his brain. After absorbing and recollecting his thoughts. Scratching his head as Mazdamundi wanted to enact the great plan. Kroq-gar thought later as they still needed to find some plagues and interpret them plus the old ones might not have predicted this and they needed to improvise. Hearing Mazdamundi hmm in his brain he cut the connection. Leaving Kroq-gar to shake his head from the first time of mind reading and handed the report to the two who read through the document.
Kroq-gar: From both Oxyotl and Mazdamundi report, they seemed to find where Ainz Ooal Gown tomb is
Looking over a picture of some ruins and broken pillars around a circle. With a mausoleum in the middle.
Kroq-gar: From the ground they seemed to hide the tomb around the surrounding hills, clever but from the birds eye view the place could be spotted
SkekGra: Are we going to speak with this sorcerer?
SkekGra asked, looking over a picture of Ainz pointing forward with his skeletal hand. Kroq-gar nodded.
Kroq-gar: Yes, you shall, I want you to take the temple guard, you will depart as soon as you are ready.
UrGoh was about to say something but SkekGra beat him to the punch as they would be here for five minutes if he allowed him to speak.
SkekGra: And what is it you wish me to accomplish, my lord? What message would you like me to bring this sorcerer?
Kroq-gar thought for a moment. Not wanting to make war so soon and wish to know more about him. Nodded knowing what to tell them.
Kroq-gar: The Sorcerer is named Ainz Ooal Gown, an Elder lich, and I'd like you to tell him this...
Thanks to SkekTek's carriage invention, both SkekGra and UrGoh were able to reach the tomb within days of travel. Taking some stops because someone had to appreciate the flowers. Much to SkekGra annoyance. He would rather appreciate the birds chirping. Which he did at the forest getting UrGoh back at him. He thinks he was snickering all the while as the temple guard went out for a swim. After that brief exercise they embarked with twenty of the temple guards in total. The temple guards were checking and rechecking their armor of gold and helmeted dinosaur bone on their heads.
Tapping their shields with their weapons of steel forged to the highest quality and blessed to strike down any foe that were taller than them. Even without the blessing they were still capable of cutting a mere chaos warrior in two. Even crushing the armor if they were feeling savage but through discipline they will hold the line till the last man. Having an instinctual need to protect those that were assigned with their lives. Having bones and charms decorated on their bodies, long red loincloths, and a golden chest plate having the symbol of the defender. Ordinarily a saurus has no need for armor for their scales was enough but the war they fight is a long run and redundancies along with status are required.
The party disembarked from the carriage as they were ordered to stay a way back. Leaving only ten to support them. With the teams being assigned, the carriage rolled forward arriving at the entrance of the tomb. SkekGra seeing they were here exited the carriage. Being irritated by UrGoh reminding him to be polite.
SkekGra: Ainz Ooal Gown! Get your bones out of here! We wish to have an Audience!
Silence befalls the group with the Temple guard waiting for orders. SkekGra looked at UrGoh who smoked his pipe closing the door. He rolled his eyes at that and both felt a surge of magic emulating the air.
SkekGra: Hmm, this Tomb is indeed powerful
Smelling it for a bit.
SkekGra: Stinks of dark magic and lots of it, hmm, Lord Kroq-gar was right, this Ainz Ooal Gown is indeed powerful
Placing his hands on the ground he felt the slight vibrations of undead skeletons and more moving to positions as they prepared to meet the intruder.
SkekGra: A welcome party for us, how kind
Before picking up two sources of power heading in their direction. SkekGra stood up holding his staff in hand adjusting his inhibitor on his head for a bit to appear more docile. He smiled.
SkekGra: Ah! the help here to welcome us
Waiting for a bit as the powers come closer. Finally the two powers reveal himself as a butler looking like Alfred but having a gold lining at the edges with gray gloves and tie. Following along with a man of a chiseled face having white beard and hair. Having a notable black eye as he patted his handkerchief on his right side pocket.
On the right was a much shorter woman. Thinking the size might be a skink. A dress of black and red highlights. Having pale skin with red eyes. Having her hair tied together by the red bow on the top of her head. Noticing her chest looked quite disproportionate to the women of her statue. But knows truly that this woman before him is a vampire. Strangely looking a lot better than the vampires he killed. He wonders if he has any pocket garlic on hand. To blind her if it comes to blows.
Watching the Vampire before him held her mouth and looked at the being before her with her red eyes glowing bright. Trying out a charm effect on him. He waved it off as he rolled his eyes. Noticing the vampire smile immediately went into a frown. Before any of them could say anything the butler stepped in to greet them.
Sebas: Greetings strangers, I am Sebas, a humble servant to the great lord Ainz
The vampire shook off the frown and curtsy in front of this weird bird man thing. Putting up her smile again.
Shalltear: And I am Shalltear Bloodfallen, devoted guardian of this tomb. My beloved lord Ainz has been expecting you
SkekGra tilted his head how they were expecting them. They were the first one's here. Unless this Ainz knows the spells of divination magic. Thinking he is indeed quite powerful and might need to fuse into one as to escape if things get messy. He waited for this butler Sebas to make the conditions known to him.
Sebas: If you want an audience, my lord will only permit four of you to enter, the rest will have to wait out here
SkekGra nodded and spoke as he waved his staff around.
SkekGra: Very well, very well, I'll take two of the guards with me
Sebas moved his tie as they accepted the condition.
Sebas: Good, now, may I ask your names?
SkekGra posed holding his staff to the ground leaning to the side pointing off to the side. With his hand to his hip looking off to nowhere.
SkekGra: I'm am SkekGra the Heretic, look at my wonder!
Sebas and Shalltear looked at this weird man bird thing in front of them not being amused at the slightest. SkekGra was looking back and forth trying to keep his pose but noticing them not wandering his wonder. Shalltear was the one who spoke first, voicing her thoughts.
Shalltear: SkekGra? That sounds stu-
Sebas: Very well, SkekGra, besides your small army are you alone here?
Sebas interrupted, ignoring Shalltear's side eye on her being interrupted. SkekGra lowered his head and sighed, hitting his staff on the ground.
SkekGra: Yes, I am alone, so very alone.
Then his sad expression suddenly changed into a smile.
SkekGra: Yet I'm also with myself!
Before Sebas can respond with Shalltear tilting her head. SkekGra turned around towards the carriage and yelled.
SkekGra: hmm, URGOH! COME OUT HERE AND GREET OUR HOSTS!
With that the door opened revealing a cane pops out of the carriage. Moving away the drapes that were covering the entrance. Revealed another weird bird thing which Shalltear thought. Sebas meanwhile noticed him being more relaxed and less disheveled like their counterpart here. Looking to be much wiser then he let on. But he was seen smoking a pipe as he let out a breath. Going to have the need to confiscate that for the twins sake. Sebas assumes this was UrGoh as he exits out of the carriage slowly, so slowly. Irritating Shalltear and SkekGra on his slowness. SkekGra groaned at his slowness.
SkekGra: Ahh so slow, mystic, four arms but only two legs, and neither good for much!
Taking a step out of the carriage as two of the temple guards decided to take the other exit as they walked around. SkekGra yelled out his slowness again.
SkekGra: Hurry up, come on we haven't got all day
Shalltear whispered to Sebas.
Shalltear: What's a mystic?
Sebas shrugged, having no idea what that means either. Hearing SkekGra pointed to the two with his staff.
SkekGra: Look, we got hosts wishing to seek an audience
UrGoh intentionally speaks slowly as he walks forward with the Temple Guard taking his flanks trying to adapt to his speed but keeps outpacing him.
UrGoh: Or...dose...he...seek...an...audience...with...us?
SkekGra shook his head as he was irritated by his other half holding up the event.
SkekGra: Argh! wh-wh-would you just introduce yourself?!
UrGoh sighed and nodded.
UrGoh: Yea, I...
SkekGra: Yep
SkekGra knew where this was going as Urgoh walked to the two.
UrGoh: Am...
SkekGra: Here we go
SkekGra rolling his eyes as he held his head coughed a bit as he lowered his head to address Shalltear and Sebas who looked on.
UrGoh: Urgoh, the
SkekGra: Uh huh, say it...
UrGoh: wan...
SkekGra: Come on
SkekGra getting irritated as he was dragging out the word wander. Shalltear might have felt the rage as well but she was way too amused on those two bickering. Kind of reminds her of a certain elf in her home.
UrGoh: der...
SkekGra: JUST SAY IT, JUST GET IT OUT THERE YOUR NAME IS URGOH, THE WANDERER!
SkekGra yelled out trying to get him to say the last syllable as the others got confirmation on what this creature is. With UrGoh finishing the last syllable.
UrGoh: errrr...
Skekgra: Ahh at last
Skekgra groaned finally getting past that part and looked at Sebas who wasn't phase at their bickering while Shalltear was chuckling for a bit covering her mouth.
Sebas: Very well SkekGra, Urgoh, please, follow me into the great tomb of Nazarick
Word count: 8800
So how did I do?
