Hello everyone, here is another one shot
This one is about Ace getting a job in modern setting, but things doesn't go as planned
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
Ace moved to sit down in the chair, and the interview started, and he had a feeling he wouldn't be chosen. He had no experience, or he had a bit, but he couldn't put it on his resume as it was not that legal. Not that it was super illegal, like drugs, but just shady work he had done to get money. But, he needed to try and get a real job. He did his best to answer the questions well, and he felt he managed, and then it was over and he was told "We will call you." And that meant 'you aren't what we want'. So when he was out, he sighed and headed home. He needed to apply to more jobs. But 2 days later, his phone rang, and he answered with his name, before the other end spoke. "This is Marco Fishback. I am calling about the interview you had 2 days ago, and we would like to offer the position to you, yoi." Ace blinked. What? He was so stunned he didn't find his voice the first seconds. "Yeah, I would really like that." He heard a hum. "Good. Be in at 8 on Monday, and we will start you off, yoi." Ace nodded, this was perfect!
He then spoke a bit more, before he hung up, and he was so excited. He got a job! He instantly told Sabo and Luffy, who were excited on his behalf as well. He got a job! A real job! When Monday came, he made sure to be early, and when he met Marco, he was told he would be moving things for today, and he accepted it. This was much better than other work he had had. It was heavy, but it was bearable. He wanted to do his best and did that. But as the days continued, he felt Marco was a bit… hard on him. He never got any easy work, he always got hard jobs. But it was still better than other work he had done. He did make a friend, Thatch, who was awesome, and they even had him over for dinner one day. He also said Marco could be a bit mean at times, and it would improve he said, and he hoped for it. He had told Sabo he felt a bit that Marco was after him, but Sabo said it was all in his mind. And he hoped that was it.
After he had been there for 3 weeks, he felt really tired in his body as it was heavy lifting each day, but it was okay, he didn't need to complain, better than other work. He only had half an hour to the building from home, but he always woke at 6 to walk his dog, Tiko, his german shepherd. He had had him for 4 years now, and he loved him with all of his heart. He had found him when he was homeless, and they bonded instantly, Tiko kept him going and it was paying off.
He just hoped things would get even better.

Marco frowned when he looked at the clock. It was soon 9am, and Ace was supposed to be in at 8, but he was no show. There was also no traffic, or not enough traffic to be this late, as it was Monday and many started later because of that. He knew he was a bit hard on Ace, but he didn't complain about it, which was good. He had no experience, and he probably wanted some. But, this was not okay, to be this late without a call or message. He didn't want to hire Ace personally, he was so young, barely 19. But Pops had said to give him a chance, and so he had. He also knew he hadn't gone easy on him, but they needed the help, and if he could prove he could handle this, he would maybe go a bit easier. He had never complained before, which was good.
It was 10 minutes later Marco moved to answer his phone when it rang. "Marco Fishback." He heard a breath. "Marco, it's Ace, I-" Marco frowned. "Why aren't you in? You were supposed to be here an hour ago, yoi." Ace was, and he didn't like tardiness. He heard Ace give a sigh. "I know, I'm on my way, I-" Marco shook his head. "You know what, don't bother coming in today, or at all. I don't like tardiness." Ace was young, he had probably been out partying this weekend and was hung over. He wouldn't take excuses. It was silent for a few seconds. "What?" He heard Ace ask, and Marco hummed. "You're fired, yoi." Marco then hung up, and he then went on with his day. He didn't tolerate this kind of behaviour. Ace might not complain, but this wasn't excusable.
And it was around 10 minutes later that he met Thatch, who hummed when he saw him. "Oh, Marco, I got a message from Sabo, Ace's brother, that Ace would be late. I was coming to tell you. I am a bit late, I just saw it, I got it an hour ago." Marco frowned. "Why did he tell you, yoi?" And why hadn't they told him that early? Thatch took his phone out and showed a picture to him, which had him blink. It was a picture of Ace lying on the floor holding a dog, a german shepherd. Thatch sighed. "I befriended him and Ace, he didn't have your number. Ace's dog got hit by a car this morning, he didn't make it. Ace was stuck at the veterinarian and didn't want to leave before he could say goodbye and be there for his last minutes." Marco blinked. Ace's dog had died? He didn't even know Ace had a dog, and it seemed he cared a lot for it. "Can I see that picture again, yoi?" Thatch nodded and showed it again and Marco looked at the details. The dog was clearly injured as he had blood on itself, and Ace's face was morphed in distress. But, if this was the last moment for the dog, he would understand that. He would be sad as well if Stefan suddenly died, especially if it was without a warning.
Now, Marco felt bad, he should have heard Ace out. If Stefan had been hurt like that and then died, Marco would have been late for work as well, as he loved that dog. He moved a hand to his face, and Thatch frowned a bit. "Where is Ace by the way?" marco took a breath. "I sent him home. I will call him, yoi." He didn't want to say he had fired Ace, he would rehire him, it wasn't his fault he had been late, he didn't do it on purpose. Thatch nodded. "Oh, okay. Does he still get paid? Sabo said this is the first real job he got, that is, well, legal." Marco blinked, before he frowned. "Do you mean drugs?" Thatch quickly shook his head. "Oh no no no. Just shady work, no one would hire him since he has no school or experience. But he needed the money since he is taking care of his younger brother, Luffy, as well." Now he felt even worse. No wonder Ace had never complained. He knew he had run Ace hard, but he never complained. He really needed to call and fix this.
So, he headed to his office and sat down in his chair and got Ace's number before he dialed it and called, hoping Ace would answer so he could explain.

Sabo sighed as he sat down on the couch. Ace had just gone to his room, he was on his way to work, when he had called Marco and Marco had just fired him, which was mean. It wasn't Ace's fault he was late, but Marco apparently didn't care. He had sent a text to Thatch, while Ace was in the vet, as he was sure Ace hadn't called yet as he was busy trying to save his dog. But it wasn't enough, the damage was too much.
Sabo saw Ace's phone got a call, and Ace was in his room upstairs, probably forgetting his phone, so he moved to answer it. "Ace's phone, this is Sabo." He should probably have checked who was calling, but he didn't think that far. "Sabo, this is Marco." He heard Marco say. "Is Ace there, yoi?" Sabo frowned. "He's a bit busy. You know, you're a real dick, you know that? Today was not a good day to fire Ace." He knew it was wrong to speak to Ace's boss like this, but he had fired Ace, so he didn't care anymore. He heard a sigh on the other end. "The reason I am calling. It was a mistake, a misunderstanding, yoi. I really need to speak with Ace." Sabo frowned. "I don't see how firing him could be a misunderstanding." He really couldn't. You don't just make a misunderstanding that makes you fire people. But as Ace had said, he felt Marco was out after him, and it was probably true.
He heard a sigh. "Just please, let me speak to Ace, yoi." Sabo gave a small huff. "Fine, give me a sec." He then headed to Ace's room and said it was Marco and handed the phone to Ace, who took it with a frown, but Sabo could see he had tears in his eyes. It hadn't been an easy day for him. He then left the room so Ace could speak to Marco and he really hoped Ace would get his job back.

Ace took the phone and put it to his ear, not in the mood for this right now, but maybe he could explain this time. "What is it, Marco?" He said, and he heard a sigh. "I just heard your dog died, yoi. I'm sorry, I was hasty in letting you go." Ace sat up in bed. What? He frowned. "What do you mean?" He heard another sigh. "I went to the assumption you were late for a stupid reason, like being hungover from partying, which is on me, yoi. And I didn't let you speak. The job is still yours if you want it." Ace blinked again. What? "Y-yeah, I would like that." He really wanted this job, even though it was hard labor. He heard a breath. "Good good. I'll let you get a few days off, paid, and you can come in on Thursday, yoi." Ace blinked, he would get that? He wouldn't complain about it, and took it. Marco then gave his regards, then he hung up, and Ace sat in silence. He still had a job. He moved up and moved to Sabo and told the good news, and Sabo was happy for him, and said he had told Thatch about the accident, probably how Marco found out. He owed this to Sabo. Sabo did ask if he wanted another dog, but he didn't want that right now, not this soon. Maybe later.
Then he went back to work after his days off, and things… were better. He wasn't just tasked with hard things, he actually got some real jobs with paperwork and got thought about how to do it. He was learning things, this was great.
Things had worked out.
