Hello everyone! Here is the next One Shot!

This is connected to Chapter 5: Ace and Law

At the end of the chapter, when Whitebeard asked Ace if they should be aware of anyone else, Ace said no, which might have been a bad idea as he may have forgotten about someone

Also, happy New Year to everyone! It's soon 2024 and I am not ready! Hopefully I am not alone with feeling that!

Hope you enjoy

Read and relax

Whitebeard sat out on deck in his chair, feeling a bit worried. They were in a usually calm and peaceful place, where they could relax without needing to be worried about fights, even when they had met marines, and a marine ship was currently heading towards them, and it looked to be a Vice Admiral as well, but who they didn't know. Maybe it would just pass them? They didn't look battle ready.

The ship came towards them and they all prepared for battle. They had no business with the marines. As they all got prepared, Ace came out and looked at them confused. "What's up?" Whiteboard hummed. "A marine ship is approaching us. They don't seem battle ready, but we don't know why." Ace blinked and then looked at the ship, before he blinked. "Uh… Pops?" Whitebeard hummed. "Yes?" Ace sounded unsure as he spoke. "Remember last month when Law visited, and when he left and you asked if there was anyone else I should warn you about that I know? And I happened to say no?" Whitebeard blinked, before he looked at Ace. "Son. Please don't tell me you have a marine best friend?" Ace quickly shook his head. "Oh no, no no. I don't." Whitebeard gave a breath, glad about that, before Ace gave a small hiss. "But my sort of grandfather is. I don't know if that's better or worse."

Whitebeard blinked. "What did you say?" Ace gave a sheepish smile. "My sort of grandfather is a marine… a vice admiral… he's… Garp. And that's his boat. So, uh, please don't attack him?" Whitebeard looked at Ace. "Son… Is this a joke?" Ace looked to be feeling regretful. "I know I should have told you! But I was just so glad Law came! And he doesn't usually visit a lot! Especially when we're out on the sea like this! I'm sorry! He won't attack you! I promise!" Whitebeard blinked and looked at Ace. "It's okay, I know you didn't mean to. Are you sure he won't attack us?" Ace nodded. "I am sure he won't! …I think. But if you just ignore him, he might get mad… at me… And he is already mad at me most likely. I usually make him mad. I like to push his buttons." Whitebeard chuckled. "I am sure Marco can agree on that." Ace liked to have fun.

Ace nodded. "Yeah. But can I ask one thing?" Whitebeard hummed, he had a feeling of what it was. "I will not attack him." Ace hummed. "No, not that. If he hits me, can you do a captain's order and make him leave?" Whitebeard blinked. "He… hits you?" Ace nodded. "Kinda… He calls it his 'fist of love', and then hits me… hard, on my head." Whitebeard blinked. "If he even tries to lift his hand to hit you, I will kick him off the boat. And not in a figurative way." Ace looked at him shocked, as if not expecting that. "I- thank you." Whitebeard smiled at his son. "No one is allowed to hurt you on my watch." Ace blinked, before he smiled and had slight teary eyes. It was sad to see, that Ace didn't believe he would stand up for him like this, but from what he knew from who his father was, what people had told him, and who his sort of grandfather was, it made sense. He would do his best to show Ace he was loved here.

Whitebeard then updated everyone, who seemed shocked. And when he had, Thatch blinked, before he nodded. "The fact that crazy man is sort of your grandfather, makes so much sense! He shouldn't take care of an egg! Let alone a person!" Ace hummed. "Well… he did do his best… which was to leave me and my brother with people who didn't really care and then show up now and then and if we wanted food, for us to hunt down animals in a jungle with enormous carnivores, alone when we were like 10." Thatch blinked. "Excuse me?" Ace blinked. "Oh no, that sounds bad. If we didn't manage to get our own food before midnight, he would make a meal. Which was a sandwich." Thatch blinked, before he nodded. "Makes you as a person make so much more sense." Ace shrugged.

The boat then came closer and when close enough, Garp, who seemed to be almost alone out on deck, boarded. When he did, he gave a glare to Ace. "What have I said about disappearing?! And you aren't supposed to be a pirate! You're supposed to be a marine!" Ace hummed. "As I've said since I could talk. 'I will be a pirate, Shitty Gramps'". Garp glared. "You know you are supposed to call me 'grandpa'!" Ace hummed. "Nope." Garp gave a breath. "There is still time to fix this. You're never too young to become a marine. I will not leave until you get your mind right!" Ace hummed. "I think it would be hard seeing as I have this now." Said Ace as he turned around and showed the mark on how back, which Whitebeard was very proud of still. He loved Ace as a son.

Garp blinked, before he looked shocked and mad, before he blinked again, and when Ace turned again, Garp spoke. "You joined them?" Ace nodded, and before he could speak, Garp continued. "And they are rivals with that Warlord. So now you can't be together, right?" Garp looked hopeful, before Ace hummed. "If I'm honest, I don't think we will stay boyfriends much longer." Garp moved his hand up as a win, which had Whitebeard blink. He felt the two were close, they had seemed so when Trafalgar visited. He didn't want to make Ace and Trafalgar break up. Ace then hummed. "We had a chat when he visited about a month ago. I think he's thinking of proposing. So we will become fiances." Garp blinked, before he looked at Ace annoyed. "Are you doing this just to annoy me?" Ace hummed. "No. That's just a bonus."

Garp looked furious and looked to be on his way to move when Ace spoke. "And before you do what I think you will do, you even try to hit me, Pops will kick you off the Moby. And this is not meant figuratively." When Ace said 'Pops' it was as if Garp's eyes almost popped out of his eyes. Garp then took a breath to contain himself, before he looked at Ace. "Who gave you the idea this was a good idea?! I certainly did not! I tried to raise you right!" Ace hummed. "'Tried' is the main word there." Garp looked mad, and before he could speak, Ace spoke again. "And after being here, and speaking with Pops, I feel proud of what I have accomplished and I think my father would be proud of me, same with mom. That's at least what Pops says." Ace then moved his hand to the tattoo on his shoulder, the misspelling of his name. "And someone else I know would be proud as well."

Garp looked shocked, before he looked a bit emotional. Whitebeard was a bit worried what would happen now, as it seemed Garp knew who Ace's father was, and he was the late Pirate King. And Ace had used to hate himself based on who his father was, believing others lies. Before anyone could react, Garp moved and Whitebeard was about to as well as the vice admiral moved towards Ace, and Ace seemed to get ready to be hit, when Ace blinked when Garp hugged him. Ace blinked. "Did… someone die? Is Lu okay?" Garp seemed confused, and leaned back. "Why wouldn't he be okay? Do you know something?! Is he okay?!" Ace blinked. "Last I heard, he was fine. But you hugged me, you never have before."

Garp blinked and seemed to panic a bit. "I didn't hug you! You- you had a- a- spider on your back! I shooed it away!" Ace blinked, on his way to talk when Garp did. "And no one saw it since I was so fast! It was probably a poisonous one! You should thank me!" Ace blinked. "Thank you, Shitty Gramps." Garp looked proud, when Ace continued. "For making me the person I am. For believing in me, telling that no matter what, I have you, and that blood means nothing, action does. Had it not been for you, I would never have felt this happy and content."

Garp looked emotional, before he suddenly turned around and started to walk to his boat. "I just remembered I need to leave. I got a meeting." Ace blinked. "With who? What happened to stay until I got my mind right?" Garp didn't turn around as he walked stiffly. "Someone important! Try not to die!" Ace blinked. "Okay, and Shitty Gramps?" Garp moved his hand up. "Shut up, Shitty Grandson!" Ace smiled. "I hope you visit again." Garp halted for a split second, and Whitebeard felt there was something about that sentence that made Garp even more emotional. "I will when I am not cry- when I have the time! Maybe at night! When it is dark! And it's cold so we need masks!" Then Garp was off the boat and barked a command to set sail, which the marine boat did, Garp heading inside the boat.

The boat then left, and Ace looked happy. Then the news spread that Ace made Garp, the Vice Admiral, cry, which seemed to be right. When it calmed down and he had a small chat with Ace while no one was around, Ace said how Garp had since he was very young told Ace he was not his father, he wasn't evil just because who his father was, and Ace had never truly believed it, thinking both his father and mother would be disappointed in him. And that was also one of the reasons Ace went for Whitebeard's head, to get his father's approval, before Ace said that after learning more about his father through him, and what Whitebeard had said, he felt Roger would have been proud, same with his mother. And that was good. When the captain asked why that last sentence made Garp so emotional, Ace said that he had always said as a child when Garp left the island they were on, that he hoped Garp would never come back. And that made sense on why Garp had gotten so emotional. But Ace also said he was thankful for all his help, no matter if it seemed harsh, even though a few things might have crossed a line.

And as day moved on, it seemed everyone got Ace more, as Garp had helped raise him, and Ace now had so many more stories to tell on how Garp had been helping raising him and his brother, and Ace had even once said 'him and his brothers' which had many blink, but Ace quickly said he meant brother, not brothers, but Whitebeard felt that wasn't the case. But as Ace told stories, he felt Garp did his best to prepare Ace for setting out and caring for himself, and Whitebeard had to say the vice admiral had succeeded with that.

Ace certainly had a lot of secrets and people he know and are close to. But Ace was also very complex and hid a lot of fears, and he hoped Ace would open even more up.
