Mrmarcusj95: Why do a three-one when I could do a full story?
Perseus12: Thanks.
KingofthePhantomDragon: i'll very much consider Starfire.
Disclaimer: I do not own Spawn or Justice League. I only own the OC Nathan Nolan/Spawn.
Thankful that she didn't have patrol or even monitor duty on the Watchtower, Diana had gotten herself ready for her afternoon lunch date with Nathan. And she made sure to dress in something comfortable. Nothing too fancy, as it was only lunch they were having. Had it been a date at an actual restaurant, then she'd break out the more... eye-catching dresses that she had in her wardrobe. But her current attire was eye-catching enough.
She was dressed in blue hip-hugging jeans that clung to her legs like a second skin, a dark brown belt looped through the holes. She also wore black ankle boots that were casual and common, followed by a white short-sleeved shirt and a dark blue denim jacket.
Right now, she was waiting outside of her temporary apartment in Gotham, waiting for her date to show up and she didn't have to wait long as she heard the rumble of a car engine followed by a black Dodge Challenger SRT Demon with red stripes stretching from the hood, across the roof, right to the trunk, and also a red underlight underneath the car.
The vehicle pulled to a halt in front of Diana, with Nathan sitting in the driver's seat. He was clad in a black leather jacket, dark jeans, black boots, and a black shirt.
"Your chariot awaits you, milady." Nathan greeted as he got out of the car.
"Wow." Diana chuckled, walking up and running her hand along the hood. "Sweet ride."
"Yeah, she's a beauty." Nathan patted the hood. "Although, not as beautiful as the woman I'm having lunch with."
Diana's cheeks reddened at his words and she fought off a grin that was pulling at her lips, instead opting to smile. She walked up to the passenger door but Nathan opened it for her and gestured like he was a butler for her. Diana giggled and got into the car, with Nathan shutting the door afterwards then walking around to the driver's seat.
"Ready?" He asked her once he was in.
Diana shot him a grin this time. "Oh yeah."
The car then took off to their destination.
"Killer Moth? Really? Has the guy even killed anyone?"
"I want to know who came up with that name, because Killer Croc sounds more intimidating."
In no time at all did their date go off without a hitch. Traded a few jokes, as well as a few non-alcoholic drinks, some food. it was a lunch date, not an evening date. Nothing put them off, not even the jealous glares Nathan got for 'scoring' a 'hot babe'. Sure, Diana was hot but he wouldn't outright call her such. She was beautiful, like a...
Goddess.
"Well, thank you for the compliment." Nathan blinked and looked to see Diana grinning at him with a blush. "Never been called a Goddess before. First an angel, now a goddess? You sure have charm, Mr. Nolan."
Nathan stuttered awkwardly, realising he had done the same thing he did when he first met her. His reaction only making Diana giggle. "S-Sorry about that." Nathan chuckled. "It's just... well, you really do look like an angel and Goddess combined."
"You're very sweet, Nathan. I thank you." Diana chuckled.
With their chuckles dying down and the good atmosphere remaining. Nathan shifted a little on his seat and inquired. "So, what's your life like? Got any family? Sisters? Brothers?"
Diana's smile turned into a hesitant frown. This was out of the blue for her; she already gave full details of her past to the rest of the Justice League after they formed, but she never expected to be asked such a question in her civilian guise. Nevertheless, she had to do her best to make up a cover story for her past.
"Well, let's just say I'm from a very… indigenous place." she began, trying to keep as much of the truth hidden as possible. "My mother's single, not to mention strict, and I never knew who my father was. I've been… homeschooled throughout my childhood, in a manner of speaking, as were my sisters."
"Sisters, huh?" Nathan asked with a raised eyebrow. "How many?"
"To put it simply, I have a LOT of sisters. Let's just say… they haven't seen a man in years. Let's just say they aren't really fond of men, bad experiences.
Nathan whistled at that, his eyebrows raised. "God help any guy that tries asking them out."
"What can I say? It's a full house." Diana joked. So far this was going as well as their first date. Now that she told Nathan a bit about herself, she felt it was his turn to share a bit of his life. "What about you? What's your story?"
Nathan's expression went a little dark and sour, but it went away quickly. However, Diana's sharp eyes spotted it and she was curious to what incited that kind of reaction for a second.
"Well... it was tough growing up." Nathan sighed, leaning back in his chair. "My parents were... they weren't perfect. There were times they'd fight, and I had to listen to it from my bedroom. Just a little boy, sitting in his room, scared out of his mind. I never said a word, never let them know how scared I was. Parents fight for even the stupidest of reasons, and while mine didn't go through what yours are, I felt it came close to that. But the one thing that seemed to matter most to them was how much they loved me. My dad wasn't the best, but he did his damnedest to be a father. And my mother... God, she was the world to me. Then again, all kids are like that when it comes to their mothers."
"Any siblings?" Diana asked softly, but Nathan shook his head.
"Nah, I was an only child." Nathan said, swallowing. "My parents, they... they died when I was in high school. Car accident."
Diana's expression softened and she put a hand on his own. "I'm sorry." She whispered, making him give her a small smile as he turned his hand over to hold hers in his palm, his thumb gently caressing hers.
"It's okay. I mourned, I grieved, I moved on. It's the way of life." Nathan said, trying to keep his composure. The memories of Sarah and the kids were coming to the front of his mind, the remidner of what happened to them. That he can never join them in Heaven because he had already been condemned to Hell before his death. The things he did as a soldier... he shouldn't have been surprised that there was a place in Hell just for him.
"So, what about job wise?" Diana asked curiously, wanting to move on from this topic before it can become too depressing.
Nathan chuckled. "I used to be a soldier."
Diana looked intrigued. "Really?"
"Oh yeah." Nathan nodded. "Was in the marines for a bit before I got put into the more... off the books stuff, black ops, you know. I was one of the best government assassins/soldiers they had, and they sent every black ops job my way because they knew I could get through it. No matter how crazy and downright suicidal the job was."
"that sounds dangerous." Diana said with a frown.
Nathan shrugged. "I was a soldier. It's a very dangerous job. But we do it because we love our country."
Diana couldn't argue with that. The Amazons were technically soldiers as well, soldiers from an ancient time. They fought in a couple of wars back then. Sure, things may be different in this day and age but soldiers were soldiers as they were warriors. Warriors who fought to protect their country, their people... and sometimes conquer out of selfish greed.
Man always went to war with each other for the most ridiculous reasons.
"And for some of us, we do it to go back home to those we love." Nathan said in a soft, quiet tone but Diana heard him and her expression went sympathetic and was one of understanding.
Having disobeyed her mother, her queen, in order to help Man's world from the Imperium, while becoming one of the proud founding members of the Justice League on that day, Diana would know. She's been gone for two and a half years and she still feared her mother's reaction since then. Was she angry? Did she forget? Did she come to terms with her daughter's departure? Diana would never know for sure, but had she not met the Justice League or the Avengers, she would never have gotten accustomed to the noble qualities of some men in the world, contrary to what her mother believed.
All in all, the date continued as normal as they moved onto more light-hearted subjects, hoping to end this event on a good note.
After paying the barista, they exited the cafe and made their way out to where Nathan's car was parked. They were expecting to have a quiet ride back to Diana's apartment and hopefully plan a... third date, but what they didn't expect was a gang of five burly men examining the car, with even one of them sitting in the driver's seat and playing with the wheel.
Oh, now they fucked up.
"Oh, fuck no." Nathan growled as he stormed towards the group, a concerned Diana following. "Hey assholes!"
"Who you callin' asshole, shitwad?!" the big guy shot up from his kneeling position to face the guy who insulted him. Judging by the tattoos on his arms, this guy had to be the leader of the bunch.
"Who the fuck is this guy?" Another thug asked.
Wordlessly, Nathan reached into the back of his jacket and drew a GLOCK 34, which caused the eyes of the thugs to widen as Diana looked surprised to see he was armed. "My name is Nathan Nolan..." He cocked the gun, a dark look in his eye. "And I love my car."
"Woah, woah, easy there." The big guy chuckled while he and his boys also drew guns. "Don't want to make a mistake and get that pretty little lady covered in blood, now. Would be a shame to ruin something so sexy as that face by getting blood over it."
Diana's expression turned to one of disgust at the lecherous looks and comment.
Nathan's eyes narrowed as he saw one of the thugs raising his gun towards him, and on instinct Nathan reacted. He aimed his gun and fired off five rounds, making Diana flinch in surprise, while the thugs were shot in one of their knees each, handicapping them. Nathan strode up and kicked their guns away.
"You should learn to be a little more respectful towards women." Nathan commented, and holstered his gun and turned around only for his eyes to widen. "Diana! Look out!"
Diana exclaimed in surprise as she was grabbed from behind and a gun pressed against the side of her head. "Don't move, asshole!" The thug holding her hostage snarled at Nathan. "Make one move and this bitch's brains will be all over the pavement."
"Do it and I will make sure to brutally fuck you up until you beg me to kill you." Nathan retorted with a dark growl, his hands clenched into fists. He could feel the temptation to assume his Hellspawn form and end this miserable wretch's life. But in doing so he'd expose himself to Diana.
He couldn't risk that.
The thug laughed, his free hand moving from around Diana's neck and just started to touch her breasts when Diana suddenly grabbed his arm and sound, twisting it harshly which caused a dislocation along with a bone snapping. The thug screamed in pain as he dropped his gun, and Diana drove her knee into his face twice, knocking him out cold.
"Woah..." Nathan blinked several times in surprise, unable to help but find the scene a little hot.
Diana shrugged with a grin. "What can I say? I grew up learning how to fight in case of an incident like that."
After calling the police, and then quickly taking their leave so as to avoid explaining why Nathan owned a gun and used it, Nathan drove Diana back to the hotel. As soon as they made it back, with Eddie parking his ride on the street, they took a moment to gaze at each other awkwardly.
"Well, that was one way to end a date." Diana was the first to break the silence.
"Yeah, didn't expect that." Nathan chuckled nervously as he shifted in his seat turning sideways a little to face Diana.
"Still surprised that you had a gun on you." Diana commented.
Nathan frowned. "Did I scare you?"
Diana stared at him for a moment then shook her head. "No. You're a soldier, it's only natural you'd want the means to defend yourself. Especially in a city like this. Just... I hope you don't go around doing that."
"No, I don't." Nathan shook his head. "But if anyone touches my ride, they better pray i'll give them an ass kicking and not a shot in the leg. They'll live, anyway. Although they'll probably be in a wheelchair for a while if not forever. They deserve it, if you ask me."
Diana couldn't really fault that. While she knew her teammates wouldn't condone such an action, there was no other way out of it without her exposing herself. She was lucky Nathan believed her when she mentioned she grew up knowing how to fight, which wasn't even a lie. Besides, it's Gotham City. The city's crime was as bad as Detroit.
"Well, I better go." Diana said and placed a hand on the door but paused. "But first..."
"Wha-Mmph!" Nathan was cut off when Diana leaned forward and pressed her lips against his, catching him firmly by surprise. She pushed him back, crawling onto him so she could straddle him without breaking their kiss. After a few seconds of shock, Nathan kissed her back while wrapping his arms around her, one hand laying on her back, the other tangling itself in her hair as their tongues met in the middle.
Through it all, Diana's head was spinning. Her first kiss. With a real man, and one with a good heart. And hers beat faster when said man wrapped his arms around her almost instinctively to deepen the embrace.
Come to think of it, his grip on her was becoming inhumanly tight. Not that she wanted to complain about it… in fact it was turning her on the tighter Nathan held her. Sadly, that feeling didn't last long as they finally gasped for air with flustered expressions.
"I'd... I'd invite you up to my room." Diana panted, her cheeks red. "But I think that would be moving too fast."
"Y-Yeah." Nathan nodded. "M-Maybe another time?"
Diana smirked sly at him. "Wanting a third date with the prospect of possibly being invited into my place?" She leaned forward to whisper in his ear. "Into my bedroom?"
"N-No! That-That's not what I... um... it's not-" Diana put a finger to his lips to silence him while losing herself into a fit of giggles.
"I'm just teasing you, Nathan." She said, smiling. "Third date. We have dinner at a restaurant. You get to pick the place. I'll be out of Gotham at the end of the week."
"You should go to New York." Nathan blunted. "I'd... I'd like to see you around my neck of the woods."
Diana smiled at him. "New York it is, then." She kissed him again, this time more softly, for a few seconds and then climbed out of the car through the driver's side. She walked off towards the hotel doors, her hips swaying. She looked back at him and winked before going inside.
Nathan exhaled and shook his head. "What a woman."
He drove on to his apartment, wanting to get ready for tonight as he goes out as Spawn.
It was chaos in the East End of Gotham City when nightfall fell. Killer Croc was out and about once again, causing mayham and destruction. He snarled as he picked up a car and launched it at a police car, rendering it useless and injuring if not killing the cops inside.
The Batman, nor his sidekicks, were here to stop him given that they were busy dealing with another problem on the other side of the city. Not even they can be in two places at once.
The monster once known as Waylon Jones paused in picking up another car as he heard something landed behind him, followed by the fluttering of a cape, and then the smell of something foul. He glanced over his shoulder to see Spawn standing to his full height and snarled in delight.
"Thought I caught your scent." He grinned.
"I know I caught yours." Spawn retorted, his glowing green eyes narrowing as he took Killer Croc.
His real name is Waylon Jones. He was born with a rare genetic disease that manifested in making look more reptilian over the course of his life. Bullied by others, Jones turned to crime as a hired thug before succumbing to his instincts. He's been arrested for multiple counts of murder and cannibalism. If he was going to be treated like a monster for looking like a monster... then he'll become a monster.
A monster that needed to be put down.
"Did the rats finally get enough of your shit, Jones?" Spawn remarked. "Or did the alligators down there tell you to fuck off?"
Killer Croc snarled before grabbing a car and launched it at the Hellspawn who ducked underneath, the car exploding ebhind hit when it struck something else. Spawn's cape whipped in the air as he faced the supervillain with a dark look.
Croc chuckled and gestured for him to bring it. Spawn charged just as Croc did, then slid underneath the human-shaped crocodile man when he lunged for a punch. Spawn shot right to his feet and pounced onto Croc's back. He swung himself around and drove his feet into the side of Croc's head hard enough to send some teeth flying. Croc snarled in rage and grabbed Spawn's cape, but chains shot out and wrapped around Croc's arm.
"What is this bondage shit?!" Croc snarled before roaring in pain when the chains tightened so much that they snapped his wrist off the bone. "GAAAAAH MY FUCKING HAND!"
Spawn lunged, driving his fist into Croc's face, then jumped up to drive his knee into him, followed by his cape whipping Croc in the face. Getting more angry, Croc swung with his free arm in a wild, frenzied manner, snarling like the animal he was as he tried to bite the Hellspawn who ducked and dodged each attack, then landed an uppercut that sent Croc off his feet and onto his back. Spawn jumped onto him, a pair of chains shooting out to wrap around his arms and hold them down.
"Talk, Croc. What were you doing out here?!" Spawn demanded before punching Croc in the face.
"Go screw yourself!" Croc snarled right back, only to get another punch to the face.
"You want to stay alive? You better give me some good news!" Of course, Spawn wasn't going to keep his word on that. Killer Croc deserved death. And he was getting it tonight. But if he knew something... especially with this unusual, sudden attack. "Are you working for someone?"
"Only boss of me is me!" Croc spat at him. This earned him another punch. "Wait until Black Mask's assassins get through with you."
At this, Spawn frowned. "What assassins?" He gave Croc another punch.
The human-shaped crocodile man just laughed. "Whoever wins is going to be famous and rich. One night... to kill Spawn."
Spawn stared at the laughing crocodile man before he created a sharp wrist blade then stabbed it into Croc's throat, making his eyes widen as he began choking on his own blood. Nathan kept the blade locked in until the life faded from Croc's eyes and they closed.
Killer Croc was dead.
"At least we know he won't be ugly." Spawn scoffed and stood before taking his leave, leaving Croc's body for the police to find. His mind was a whirlwind of thoughts right now.
Black Mask had hired assassins to kill him?
And from the sounds of it, there was a price on his head.
He needed to find someone who could give him more information about Black Mask's movements and dealings. And he could only think of one man who may know of such things.
the Penguin.
Welp, that happened! Killer Croc is dead, and Spawn is aware of Black Mask's assassins gunning for him. Now he's going to find out more by having a little 'chat' with the Penguin.
