Chapter Five: Stuck in the Log
Deep inside the hollow log, the baboon siblings remained hidden, confident in their ability to outlast Makini's search.
Bongo: "Hmm. It's taking Makini a while to find us." He tapped his fingers against the wood, a smirk tugging at his lips.
Bobo: "That's because we are really good hiders." He chuckled.
Asha: *baby voice* "Yeah." She agreed, a proud little smile on her face.
A little while later, Asha began to shift uncomfortably. The way she was positioned was starting to make her legs ache, so she wiggled to move up.
Bongo: "Ow!" He winced as she accidentally elbowed him.
Bobo: "Ow!" He grunted when Asha's foot pressed against his ribs.
Asha's ears drooped, frowning.
Asha: *baby voice* "Sorry." She murmured, guilt creeping into her tone.
Now, both Bongo and Bobo were starting to feel the strain as well. The log was tighter than they had expected, and soon enough, they were all trying to adjust at once.
Bobo: "Move over, Bongo." He grumbled.
Bongo: "I'm trying, but Asha keeps pushing me." He shot back, shifting awkwardly.
Asha: *baby voice* "No, I'm not!" She pouted, her voice insistent.
The three of them continued their uncomfortable shuffling, their limbs getting more tangled by the second.
Bobo:"Bongo, move your arm." He huffed.
Bongo: "Let me just—Whose leg is that?" He tried adjusting before frowning.
Bobo: "It's mine." He replied, exasperated.
Asha yelped, quickly pulling her tail close to her chest as she winced.
Asha: *baby voice* "Ouch! Bongo, you stepped on my tail!" She stroked the tip of it soothingly, her little nose scrunching in discomfort.
Bongo: "Oops. Sorry." He said quickly, ears flattening in guilt.
Bobo: "Watch it! You're squishing me," He grumbled, struggling against the tight space.
Bongo: "I can't help it. Asha's blocking me!" He argued.
Asha: *baby voice* "Am not!" She huffed, puffing her cheeks.
Bobo: "Would you both just stop moving?" He snapped.
Finally, they froze in place—but now, they were wedged so tightly that none of them could move at all.
Bongo: "Hnnn." He grunted, trying to wiggle.
Bobo: "Rrrr." He strained.
Asha: "Ughh." She whined, shifting her shoulders but finding no room to budge.
Bobo: "Oh great. Now we're stuck." He let out a frustrated sigh.
Asha: *baby voice* "I can't move." She whimpered, her voice laced with worry.
Bongo: "Aww, man." He groaned, letting his head fall back against the wood.
Asha: *baby voice* "What do we do now?" She asked softly, glancing between her brothers.
Bobo: "Don't worry, Asha. Makini is going to find us." He said, his voice calm and steady, hoping to ease his little sister's nerves.
Bongo: "Yeah. So until then, let's just try to stay calm." He added, trying to sound reassuring.
Asha: *baby voice* "Okay." She nodded, though she still looked uncertain.
For a brief moment, there was silence—until Bongo shifted slightly and hesitated.
Bongo: "Um… Bobo." He murmured, his tone was uncertain, almost sheepish.
Bobo closed his eyes, already sensing where this was going.
Bobo: "Don't say you have to pee." He warned, as if willing if not to be true.
Bongo: "Okay, fine," He mumbled, pressing his lips together.
Bobo relaxed slightly, leaning his head against the log, but then—
Bongo: "I have to pee." He blurted out, his voice filled with both discomfort and mischief.
Bobo: "Bongo!" He groaned in frustration.
Asha: "Hee hee hee." She giggled, her voice bright with amusement.
Now, the siblings were stuck in the log, waiting for Makini to find them—hoping it would be sooner rather than later.
