The Last Roar Of The Wilds - Reunited
As Fergus and his team vanished into the shadows of the Wilds, the bastion stood defiant against the horde's relentless assault. Halmares and Kalmak led their warriors in a fierce counterattack outside the gates, their cries of defiance cutting through the roar of battle.
Kalmak's Tombigbee warriors formed a shield wall, their spears thrusting with disciplined precision. Halmares moved like a storm among them, his axe cleaving through Darkspawn with a terrifying grace.
"Hold steady!" Kalmak bellowed, his voice unyielding. "Make them bleed for every step!"
Despite their ferocity, the Chasind forces were vastly outnumbered. The Darkspawn surged forward in waves, their numbers bolstered by monstrous ogres and snarling Hurlocks. Behind them, the Emissaries' dark magic rained down in devastating bolts of green fire, carving gaps in the Chasind lines.
Inside the bastion, Veyna commanded the siege weapons with ruthless efficiency. Ballistae fired massive bolts that skewered clusters of Darkspawn, while trebuchets hurled flaming projectiles into the enemy ranks.
"Focus on the ogres!" Veyna barked, her voice cutting through the chaos. "Bring them down before they reach the gates!"
Tharnik's hunters, positioned on the flanks, struck with deadly precision, their traps ensnaring the larger beasts while arrows found the weak points in their hides. Yet even with these efforts, the horde pressed closer.
Fergus and his team pushed through the dense Wilds, their breaths heavy from exertion. Nira led the way, her sharp eyes scanning the trees for any signs of pursuit. Ruhn followed close behind, his soldiers flanking him protectively.
"We bought time," Nira said between breaths, glancing at Fergus. "But not enough. They'll regroup quickly."
"They always do," Fergus muttered, wiping Darkspawn blood from his sword. "But the Emissaries are gone. That should slow them down. Now we just have to get back to the bastion before it's too late."
Ruhn's young voice cut through the tension. "We need to move faster. The others are counting on us."
Fergus gave him a nod, admiring the boy's resolve. Despite his youth, Ruhn had proven himself time and again, his courage shining in even the darkest moments.
Back at the bastion, the battle had taken a desperate turn. The outer defenses were collapsing under the weight of the Darkspawn's relentless assault. An ogre smashed into the wooden gate, splinters flying as it roared in fury.
Halmares turned to Kalmak, his voice urgent. "Fall back to the inner wall! We've done all we can here!"
Kalmak hesitated for only a moment before barking the order. The Chasind forces began a controlled retreat, their shields raised as they moved toward the bastion's inner defenses.
"Archers, cover them!" Nira shouted from the wall, her bowstring taut. She fired arrow after arrow, each shot finding its mark.
As the last of the warriors crossed the threshold, the gate gave way, the massive ogre tearing through the remains with a thunderous crash.
Fergus's team arrived just as the Darkspawn breached the outer gates. From the edge of the Wilds, he could see the chaos unfolding: Chasind warriors fighting valiantly as the horde surged into the bastion's outer yard.
"We're too late," Ruhn said, his voice filled with dread.
"No," Fergus replied, his voice resolute. "We're just in time."
He turned to Nira. "Get to the walls. Rally the archers and prepare for the next wave. Ruhn, take your soldiers and reinforce the inner defenses."
"What about you?" Nira asked, her brow furrowed with worry.
"I'm going to the front," Fergus said, gripping his sword tightly. "Halmares and Kalmak are still out there. I won't leave them to face this alone."
Fergus charged into the fray, cutting down Darkspawn with every swing of his blade. The air was thick with smoke and the acrid stench of blood. He found Halmares and Kalmak near the inner wall, both bloodied but unbroken.
"You're late!" Kalmak shouted, laughing despite the chaos.
"Couldn't let you have all the fun," Fergus replied, falling into step beside them.
The three of them fought together, their movements coordinated and deadly. Fergus's sword flashed in the firelight, Halmares's axe hewed through armor and bone, and Kalmak's shield turned aside every blow aimed at their group.
Above them, Nira's archers unleashed a deadly rain of arrows, thinning the Darkspawn's ranks. Ruhn's soldiers held the line at the inner gate, their spears forming an unbreakable wall.
Despite their heroics, the Darkspawn continued to surge forward. An ogre charged the inner gate, roaring as it smashed into the defenses. Fergus rallied the nearby warriors, leading a desperate charge to drive it back.
"Focus on its legs!" he shouted. "Bring it down!"
Spears pierced the ogre's knees, sending it crashing to the ground. Fergus delivered the final blow, driving his sword into its neck.
Out of nowhere the darkspawn and man a like stopped fighting.
The battlefield stilled, the chaos of clashing steel and roaring flames suddenly giving way to a tense, deafening silence. A monstrous roar, so deep it seemed to shake the very earth, echoed from the horizon of the Frozen Wastelands. Warriors froze in place, their weapons slack in their hands. Even the Darkspawn paused, their heads turning toward the source of the sound.
Fergus turned, his heart pounding in his chest as he scanned the horizon. Then he saw it.
