Luz let out a sigh as she looked out the window of her mother's car. She and her family were on their way to pick up food for Thanksgiving, and her mood was very different from the last time she was in the Human Realm. Despite the comfort she'd received from her family, she was still emotionally drained from yesterday's events, and was still trying to come to grips that she'd taken another life, even if it was against her will. The sequence of events afterwards didn't help much either.

The incident at the owl house caused quite an uproar among the citizens of the Boiling Isles, and Mayor Bump found himself caught in the middle of it. The amount of calls he was getting in his office was overwhelming, with some people outraged that Luz had been attacked, while others were fearful that this proved the Human Witch was indeed a danger to all of them.

Bump thanked the titan that he didn't have to deal with all of this alone. Raine and the other council members helped take a huge weight off his shoulders, especially when they held a press conference later that evening.

Raine and Lilith both showed the public charts to explain how lycanthropy works, assuring that Luz was merely acting in self defense, and that the incident wouldn't have happened at all had Dysley and his group not provoked her. Unfortunately, while this seemed to get across to the people, it did little to ease the tension among them. They still weren't convinced that Luz could be trusted or was safe to be around.

It also didn't help that Dysley was proving to be more cunning than anticipated, managing to avoid capture despite the authorities' best efforts. This worried Raine greatly. Given that Dysley was once a member of the CATs, he was no stranger to combat tactics, and was definitely planning his next move. It was just a question of what that was, and Raine was thankful that Luz had decided to stay in the Human Realm for a little while. The last thing they wanted was for her to be in danger.

Mom was right. The human witch thought. Some people are just crazy.

Amity knew her fiancé needed a distraction from her thoughts, so she began to stroke her hair.

"Your hair's gotten longer." She said with a smile.

Luz smiled back. It was true. Since the night she became a werewolf, her hair had grown a decent bit, and was now down to her shoulders, though it wasn't quite the length she wanted just yet.

"Yeah." She said. "I figured it would fit well with me being a werewolf."

Camila nodded. "I think it looks good on you, Mija. Though I'm not sure if you should make it any longer."

Eda shook her head. "Oh no, she definitely should. She had long hair in her titan form, and she looked like a million snails!"

Luz chuckled. "Yeah, Stringbean said the same thing."

"Dios mío." Her mother whined. "I still can't believe I missed that! It would have been so beautiful to see my daughter kick butt in that form!"

"Yeah…" Amity said with a blush. She also didn't get to see Luz in her titan form when it happened either, but the human witch showed her the memory of it later on. Needless to say, it was the most stunning thing she had ever seen, and it was one of the reasons she liked her fiancé's tail so much.

She turned and saw Luz looking back out the window, getting lost in thought again, so she took her hand. "How are you holding up?"

The human witch smiled again and shrugged. "I'm hanging in there. Processing emotions and events just takes time, you know what I mean?"

Camila spoke up. "Absolutely, and you have all the time in the world, so there's no rush."

"Heh, it seems that's become the norm for me lately. I'm actually afraid I'm starting to get used to it."

Eda snorted. "That's not a bad thing. Believe me kiddo, it's about time you learned how to sit down every once in a while."

Luz shook her head. "Oh no. I ain't gonna let that happen. That just isn't my style. Once this is all over, I'll be back on my feet right away."

Camila chuckled and shook her head. "Some things about you never change."

"Would you have it any other way?"

"Well…"

"Mom!"

"Haha! I'm just kidding. I don't ever want to see that ray of sunshine leave you. It's what makes you so special. Never forget that."

Luz choked. "Mom…stop. You're gonna make me cry again, and I've done enough of that lately as is."

Amity nodded in agreement. "Yeah, the owl house has been flooded enough already. Let's not drown this place too."

"You're just as guilty of that, Boots." Eda said. "Do I have to remind you how much you cried the night Luz proposed to you?"

The human witch now giggled. "Still not as much as you and mom. You guys cried even harder than Hooty did, and that says a lot."

"So? You're my kid. Don't I deserve to shed tears of joy over you getting engaged?"

Luz gave a sly smile. "You and Mom literally held onto baby pictures of me for dear life when you slept that night."

Amity giggled. "Oh yeah. I have the pictures right here."

She pulled out her scroll. And sure enough, it displayed images of Camila and Eda crying in bed while holding baby pictures of Luz like a child holding their favorite toy.

They both paled instantly.

"You will delete those immediately!" Camila shouted.

Luz and Amity burst out laughing, even more so when Eda tried to snatch the scroll away from them.

….

Fortunately for Camila and Eda, their embarrassment didn't last too long as the group arrived at their destination about five minutes later. It was a farmer's market that was just outside of Gravesfield, and it had the distinction of being on an actual farm. Luz smiled as her mother parked the car. She had been coming to this place since she was little, and she always looked forward to returning every year, because this place had more to offer than just food. It also had a wide variety of animals that people could feed with pieces of carrot, and the human witch loved being able to spend time with them and bond, even if it was only for a few minutes.

So the second she got out of the car, she immediately ran to the stand by the entrance to get food for the animals, something Camila chuckled at.

"Twenty years old and she's still getting giddy like a child." She said

She then turned to Amity. "Go on ahead and join her. Me and Eda will get the food for Thanksgiving."

"Are you sure?" The purple haired witch asked. "I know we have a lot of things to get today. We'd be more than happy to help."

"Don't worry, we'll be fine. Besides, Luz needs a good distraction right now, and I think this is the perfect way to do it."

"Okay, just let us know if you need anything."

With that, Amity went off to join her fiancé, and she couldn't help but have a small spring in her step as she did. Like her fiancé, she too was looking forward to feeding the animals as this was going to be her first time doing so. She had been told about these animals from the Human Realm before, but this was going to be her first time actually meeting them, and she was excited to do so.

By the time she reached Luz, the human witch had already purchased a bag of carrot pieces for each of them, and handed one to her with a smile.

"Thank you, madam." Amity said, smiling back.

"You're very welcome, my hermosa." Luz replied. "Okay, so we have a couple hours before dark. Where do you want to go?"

"You know this place better than I do. You lead the way."

"Alrighty then! Let's go to the goats! I think you'll love them!"

Taking her hand, Luz began to lead her to one of the smaller pens on the farm as she hummed a tune to herself, and this warmed Amity's heart. Yesterday's events left her fiancé a complete emotional wreck, barley able to look at or speak to anyone. And while it was clear it was still weighing on her shoulders, it was good to see she was trying to stay positive, which was definitely a step in the right direction.

Amity's heart warmed even more however when she reached the pan and saw the animals that were inside. There were at least two dozen goats, all of various different sizes and colors. The smallest ones however were what really caught her eye. They were only about the size of a small dog, and had this adorable bounce in their step.

"Oh. My. Titan!" She squealed. "They're so cute!"

"I know, right?" Luz said. "And if you give them some food, they'll be your best friend!"

The purple haired witch didn't need to be told that twice. She walked up to the pen while taking out a couple pieces of food, and instantly several goats eagerly ran up to her and stuck their noses through the holes in the fence. Amity squealed again and immediately handed the smallest one a piece of food, and it used its tongue to grab it before it started chowing down. Even the way it chewed was adorable, and it took the purple haired witch every ounce of willpower she had to not pick one of the goats up and take it home with her.

Luz couldn't help but giggle at the sight. Like her, Amity was a huge sucker for animals, and she knew that she would instantly fall in love with the goats. Actually, what was she doing just standing there? She should join in on the fun too. So that's what she did. She walked over and knelt down next to fiancé, offering food of her own to the goats.

The second she did that however, the hooved animals all shot their heads in her direction and froze for a moment. In a second, their demeanor had changed from happy and excited to surprised and nervous. Luz was confused. What had suddenly gotten into them? She smiled and waved her piece of food to the goats, but they didn't approach her. Instead, they slowly began to back away.

Her heart sank as the realization hit her. They must have picked up her scent, the scent of a werewolf, and were too scared to approach her.

"No. It's…It's okay." She tried to reassure them. "I won't hurt you. I promise."

The goats continued to back away however, and her eyes started to tear up. Even here it seemed like her curse was ruining her chances of being happy, but Amity was not about to let that happen. She wrapped her arm around her shoulder and looked at the goats with a smile.

"I know what you guys are thinking." She said. "She has the scent of a predator, and your instincts tell you to avoid her. But I promise you, you have nothing to worry about. Luz is the kindest, most gentle soul you will ever meet, and she would never in a million years hurt one of you. You just have to give her a chance."

She then held out another piece of food. "You see me as friendly, right? Well, I'm not afraid of Luz, which means you don't have to be either."

The goats stood in place for a moment, silently staring at the couple and wondering what to do. It was a long moment too, and at first it seemed like they weren't going to come over. But finally, one of them began to slowly approach Amity, still not a hundred percent sure if they can drop their guard yet. Keeping a close eye on Luz, it began to eat out of the purple haired witch's hand again, but much more cautiously, before the others came forward as well.

Luz gave it another moment before she made another attempt to feed the hooved animals. She held out her hand towards the largest one, and it instantly snapped its head towards her with a look of worry, but it didn't run away. The human witch took this opportunity to smile at it while keeping her arm extended, showing as much as she possibly could that she wasn't a threat.

The goat took a step forward and carefully sniffed her hand. It was confused now. This human had the scent of a predator all over her, but she wasn't acting like one at all. If anything, she was acting the complete opposite, and didn't seem to have any intention of hurting it. Could it really trust her? The goat stood there for another moment, thinking hard about what to do, before it made its decision.

It reached over and grabbed the food out of Luz's hand. As it chewed, it studied her intently. Again, she didn't act like a threat in the slightest. She just sat there and patiently waited for it to be done so she could give it another piece. The hooved animal was finally convinced. This human was no danger to it, and it finally relaxed.

It's happy and eager deminer returned, and it walked up to Luz for more food. Then, after seeing they could afford to drop their guard, the other goats followed suit and waited their turn to be fed. The human witch's heart leapt with joy. The goats chose to trust her, and it made her so happy.

"They…They accept me." She said. "They actually accept me."

Amity smiled and took her free hand, giving it a squeeze. "Of course they did, Batata. You showed them who you really were, and that's all they care about. They don't care that you're a 'you know what'. They see you as friendly and someone they can feel safe around."

"Yeah. I showed them I could be trusted."

The human witch's eyes widened, and she turned to face her fiancé. "No, I proved myself to them! I proved that I'm not a monster and they understood!"

Now Amity was beaming, and gave her a kiss. "You sure did! You know what that means, right?"

Luz nodded. "It means I can do the same for the people of the Boiling Isles!"

"Exactly! It's going to be more complicated than giving people carrots of course, but I know you can do it! And deep down, I think you know that too."

The human witch sighed. "I never said I didn't. It's just, everything that's been happening recently has been so hard on me, and kind of made me lose sight of things a little. I just needed a reminder that I can always turn this around."

Amity gave her another kiss. "Everyone needs that from time to time. I sure did when I started going against Odalla, that's for sure. But let's not worry about the Boiling Isles or anything about that right now. Right now is your mental vacation, and your goal is to have as good of a time as possible."

Luz smiled and nodded. "Right, and we still have a lot more animals to feed. Do you want to see what an Emu looks like?"

"Hold on. Remember, it's going to get dark in a couple hours, and it's a full moon tonight."

The human witch frowned. "Oh, right. Well, can we at least see the Emus. Please?"

Amity thought about it for a moment before nodding. "Okay, but only the emus, and we stay with them for thirty minutes tops, alright?"

"Deal!"

Before the couple could stand up however, Amity felt a tug on the sleeve of her sweatshirt. And when she looked over, she saw one of the goats had grabbed it and was now chewing on it.

"Ack! No! Don't do that! This is my good sweatshirt!" She shouted.

Luz gave the hooved animal one last piece of carrot to distract it so Amity could pull herself free. When she did, the cuff of her sleeve had saliva all over it.

"Eww. That's gross. Maybe these animals aren't as cute as I thought."

Luz laughed and wrapped her arm around her. "Nah, that's just them being playful. Don't worry, I'm sure my Mom can get that cleaned up. Now, onwards!"

Amity couldn't help but giggle as she took her fiancé's hand and continued walking with her. Luz was such a dork, but she loved every bit of it.
