May 27th:
Ada and Mina were seated comfortably in the back of a stage coach as they made their way to Whitby. Ada was asleep, her head resting on Mina's shoulder, which was cute in Mina's eyes.
Eventually, they arrived in Whitby. It was dawn, and the people of the town were beginning to wake up. "Wake up, Ada." Mina said as she nudged Ada awake. "Oh… we're here?" Ada asked.
"Yep, we are." Mina said. They proceeded to get out of the stagecoach and unload their luggage before making their way into town.
They walked for a bit before they finally reached Lucy's house, which was a rather large 2 story house. "Shit, how wealthy is this Lucy girl?" Ada asked. "Don't worry, she lives with her mother. It's not her house." Mina said.
Mina proceeded to knock on the door, and they waited for about a minute before Lucy opened the door. "Oh my god! I'm so happy to see you!" Lucy said before hugging Mina tightly. "Happy to see you too, Lucy." Mina said.
"And who's your friend?" Lucy asked as she looked at Ada. "Hi, I'm Ada. I'm Mina's best friend." Ada said. "You're my second best friend." Mina said.
"Who's the first?" Lucy asked. "Jonathan, and he's only a friend to me." Mina answered. "But you two are getting married." Lucy said. "Do you know how hard getting a job as a woman is? I can't get a teaching license 'cause my family couldn't afford to give me a proper college education, and the other jobs for women these days are just domestic duties anyways. Might as well share Jonathan's wealth rather than work for a paycheck." Mina said.
"Isn't that just using him?" Lucy asked. "...Okay yeah, it's scummy, but that doesn't mean I don't like him. I just don't like him as a romantic partner." Mina said.
"But he seems like the perfect man." Lucy said. "Yeah, that's kind of the point." Mina said before she and Ada went inside.
Did Lucy just hear Mina confess to being lesbian? "Wait-" Lucy was quickly cut off by Mina. "I don't wanna talk about it." Mina said.
Mina and Ada went upstairs to the guest bedroom where they would be sharing a bed. "You didn't have to get so mad down there." Ada said.
"I wasn't mad. I just… I don't wanna talk about it." Mina said before sitting down on the bed. "Hey, you don't have to be ashamed. It's a part of who you are, and I think it's cool that you're like me in that way." Ada said.
"You mean it?" Mina asked. "Of course." Ada said before Mina hugged her tightly. Ada was taken aback for a second before smiling and hugging Mina back.
"Thanks, Ada." Mina said into Ada's shoulder. "You're welcome, Mina." Ada said. They continued to hug for a little bit before breaking apart.
"Alright, let's go down for breakfast." Ada said. They got up and left the room for breakfast. As they sat down, Lucy stared at Ada's painted hair.
"Is there a reason you-" Lucy was cut off by Ada speaking. "It's a fashion thing." Ada answered. "Alright then." Lucy said before she began cooking.
"They arrived this early?!" Lucy's mother asked as she came downstairs. Lucy looked like a younger version of her mother. Both were tall, slim women, but Lucy's mother had wrinkles, and grey hair, while Lucy had blonde hair, and perfect, clear skin.
"Yes mother, they're here." Lucy said. Lucy's mother sat down at the table with Mina and Ada. She was familiar with Mina, but not Ada. "You look like a fool." Lucy's mother said, referencing Ada's hair.
"Why does everyone have to bring it up?" Ada asked. "Because you do look kinda funny." Mina answered. "Shut up." Ada said. "No." Mina responded.
"Where in the world is Jonathan?" Lucy's mother asked. "He's been in Romania for almost a month now." Mina answered.
"Romania? I've heard stories about that place. People say it's full of a bunch of lunatics." Lucy's mother said. "You don't know anything about us!" Ada exclaimed as she leaned forward in her chair, only for Mina to push her back. "Calm down, Ada. Just calm down." Mina ordered.
"Mother, don't insult the nationality of one of our guests." Lucy said as she continued cooking breakfast.
"Maybe he is on the way back." Lucy said. "Did you notify the post office of your location for the next few weeks?" Lucy asked. "I did, but Jonathan never sends me letters telling me if he's on his way back. He says it's a waste of paper and would prefer to surprise me, but he's late."
"Well, I'm sure he'll return home eventually." Lucy's mother said. "Yeah, I'm sure he will." Mina said, hiding how tiring the morning had already been for her.
Later that day:
The four were walking through the cemetery with Arthur Holmwood. They were visiting the grave of Lucy's grandmother.
"I've never seen a cemetery with this many graves." Ada said as she looked at the large abundance of graves.
Then, an old man with a hunched over posture and grey hair named Mr. Swales walked up to them. "Most of the graves are empty, far too many people are lost at sea." Mr. Swales said to them. "Excuse me, what?!" Ada asked.
"Calm down, Ada." Mina requested. "Isn't that a bit insensitive to say?!" Ada asked. "It's okay. Don't worry about it." Mina said to Ada. "Okay, fine." Ada said as she began taking deep breaths.
As they began walking away, Lucy's mother whispered into Mina's ear. "You should've chosen your friends more wisely." she said before walking ahead of all of them. Mina was really starting to hate Lucy's mother at this point.
The next day:
Dr Seward was sitting in Renfield's cell, watching as Renfield caught a fly and fed it to a spider. "Sir, may you give me a Sparrow, a-and a cat?" Renfield asked. Dr. Seward read through Renfield's diary, which detailed Renfield's plans to feed a fly to a spider, feed the spider to a sparrow, and feed the sparrow to a cat, before eating the cat so he could gain their cumulative life force.
"Hmmm… maybe." Seward said before leaving the cell. "I'll think about it." he said before closing the cell door.
June 19th: Mina was reading a letter from Mr. Hawkins. "Dear Mina, I write to inform you that I received a letter on the 17th that was dated to the 15th, from Jonathan, saying that he arrived back in Bistritz, Transylvania.
Ada, who was sitting on the bed in the room, looked up from her book. "Since when does Jonathan write to inform people of him returning?" Ada asked. "He doesn't. Something is off." Mina said.
Then, they heard footsteps outside of the room. "Wouldn't Lucy and her mother be in bed by now?" Lucy asked.
They left the room, and they saw Lucy sleepwalking. "Oh my god." Mina said before she and Ada helped Lucy back to her room, before locking the door.
June 24th:
Ada and Mina were sitting in the living room. They had to lock Lucy in her room every night for the past few nights because Lucy's sleepwalking episodes were getting worse and worse.
Then, they heard a knock at the door, and Lucy rushed over to the door, opening it, and being met by Holmwood. "Arthur!" she said excitedly before kissing him.
"We have to push back the wedding." Holmwood said. "What? Why?" she asked. "Because my father has fallen ill, and I need to make sure he's alright before the wedding.
Lucy sighed before looking back up at Jonathan. "Okay… I understand." she said before hugging him, and he left.
Lucy's mother came into the room, and she saw Ada giving Mina a Tarot reading. She rolled her eyes before walking away. Ada noticed, and something about that just rubbed Ada the wrong way.
"You got a problem with me?!" Ada asked as she stood up, her hands balled into fist. "Oh, look who's starting something?!" Lucy's mother said. "I wouldn't be acting like this if you didn't just ridicule everything I do!" Ada said.
"I mean… you're racist for crying out loud!" Ada said. "Call me that one more time. I dare you." Lucy's mother dared. "Racist." Ada said. Then, Lucy's mother shoved Ada. "Now, let's all just calm down!" Mina requested. Then, Ada proceeded to shove Lucy's mother into a shelf, causing some books, vases, and a picture to fall over.
"Mother, are you okay?!" Lucy asked as she kneeled down next to her mother. Then, Lucy noticed the picture which had broken, which was a picture of her grandmother. "I-I-I-I didn't mean to." Ada said. "Get. Out!" Lucy shouted.
Ada held back tears before running out the back door. "Ada, wait." Mina requested as she followed Ada.
Mina stopped when she saw Ada sitting on the back porch. She sat down next to Ada, and she saw that Ada was crying into her knees. "You okay?" Mina asked. "No… I just… I mess up everything. I keep letting Lucy's mother get under my skin, I broke all that fine china when we met, and now this." Ada said.
"Ada, don't get all worked up over this." Mina said before helping Ada wipe the tears away. "Sure, you mess up, but you do your best, and I believe in you." Mina said.
"I just… there's a reason I have almost no friends." Ada said. "I keep making people hate me. It was like this back in Romania. I bet my family probably hates me too for leaving them." Ada said.
"Your family hates you?" Mina asked. "I used to write to them, and they would write back, but eventually, they just stopped writing back. Like… it's like they were too spiteful to keep acknowledging me." Ada said.
"Look Ada, you should know that not everyone hates you." Mina said. "You have me." Mina said. "I don't get how. I mean… I'm so annoying, and I have anger issues, and I'm clumsy." Ada said. "You wanna know why you're my friend?" Mina asked. "Yeah." Ada said.
Flashback:
It was the day when Ada first met Jonathan and Mina. Mina and Jonathan were in a very long engagement. This was also the day where Ada accidentally broke their fine china.
Mina was sitting in the living room, reading a book, when she heard a knock on the door. She walked over to it and opened the door, and she saw Ada. "What do you want?" Mina asked, clearly not wanting to put up with the girl.
"I came here to apologize for breaking all your fine china. I just wanted to help. I didn't mean to break them, and I don't expect you to forgive me, but I would love it if you did." Ada said.
Mina's facial expression shifted as she took in what Ada was saying. "You… came here to apologize?" she asked. "Yeah, I did." Ada answered, a small smile on her face.
"What's your name?" Mina asked. "My name's Ada." Ada said. "I-I can give you a Tarot reading to make things up to you." Ada offered. "That won't be necessary." Mina said. "Tell me, do you have a job?" Mina asked. "Y-yeah… I'm a teacher." Ada said.
"Oh, you're a teacher. I wanted to be a teacher, but I never got the right education." Mina said. "So… am I forgiven?" Ada asked. "Yeah, you're forgiven." Mina said.
Present day:
"Look Ada, I was frustrated with you, but when you showed up at my door and apologized, all I saw was a well-meaning woman who just wanted to be helpful. In other words, the woman I wanna spend my whole life with." Mina said.
That statement caught Ada off guard and made her blush profusely. "You mean it?" Ada asked. "Yeah, I mean it." Mina said. Then, Ada pulled Mina into a passionate, loving kiss, before hugging her.
"Do you feel better now?" Mina asked. "Yeah, I feel way better now." Ada said before Mina hugged her back.
Then, Lucy walked outside and saw them. "Oh… was I not supposed to see this?" Lucy asked. "Just go." Mina requested. "O-okay." Mina said before going back inside.
June 25th:
Mina and Ada were walking by the port, when they bumped into Mr. Swales. "Oh, it's you two. Look… I apologize for what I said back in the cemetery. I can be quite cynical. I just… I feel there is no point in sugar coating things when my life is near its end."
"Well, thankyou for the apology." Mina said. "Death is coming. I can feel it in the wind." Mr. Swales said. Honestly he seemed to be right. Certain things going on were quite suspicious. According to the letter regarding Jonathan, he would be on a four week long sea voyage back to London by now, but Jonathan would never tell anyone that he's on his way back, so why would Hawkins get such a letter.
Then, the coast guard rushed by with a spyglass. "There's a ship approaching the shore! She appears to be a Russian merchant ship!" he shouted. Then, the ship wrecked on the coast.
"What the Hell?" Ada asked as they looked at the wrecked ship. The vessel's name was on the side of the ship. It read "Demeter."
A/N: And that's the end of chapter 6. I didn't expect this to become the second longest chapter so far, but here we are! Hope you enjoyed it, and the next chapter will be a return to horror for the story.
