Morning didn't start well for the Doctor, as she woke up with terrible headache. She opened her eyes and looked around. Yaz was laying right next to her, still asleep. Doctor smiled to herself looking at her pretty face. She gave her a kiss in the forehead and gently left the bed. Her clothes were nicely folded on the chair nearby. She had some troubles with determining how did she end up in bed, and then her brain finished rebooting and the memories came back. She looked at Yaz.
'You're too good to me, Yasmin Khan.' she whispered, sitting back on the bed, behind Yaz's back.
'Someone had to take care of your drunk ass.' Yaz replied, yawning. 'Good morning, Doc.' she turned around to smile to her.
'Morning.' Doctor took her hand. 'Thank you for doing that. I was pretty drunk.' her headache reminded her of that pretty hard.
Yaz chuckled. 'You were.' she pulled her back to bed, making Doctor giggle. 'But I thought you were cute. I mean you always are, but last night... It was the first time I saw you drunk.'
Doctor smiled and put her hand on Yaz's cheek. 'It was the first in a long time I let my guard down this much. You make me feel safe enough to do that.' she frowned a bit. 'Strange feeling though.'
'Being drunk, or letting your guard down?' Yaz asked wrapping her arms around Doctor's waist.
'Both, I think.' she answered. 'Did I say something weird last night?'
Yaz couldn't stop smiling. 'No, nothing weird. But, you admitted you liked me from the very beginning.'
Doctor's cheeks became red. 'Did I really? Huh, alcohol really makes you do stuff.'
Yaz nodded in silent agreement.
'For me it was my nan's wedding.' she said all of the sudden. 'I know this speech wasn't for me, when you married my nan and Prem... But it made me acknowledge my own feelings.'
Doctor's face became even more red. 'Actually... It was for you.'
Yaz blinked really fast couple of times. 'Say what now?'
'I really wished you liked me back, and that speech...' she sighed. 'I... Really tried to make it about them, but what I really wanted... Was us... in their place. In that stream... Of course I didn't want to ruin our friendship, by asking you out.'
Yaz's eyes showed glimpse of tears. She was shocked but also over the moon.
'I guess we're both really bad at this.' she smiled. 'But, if you asked me out back then... I wouldn't say no.'
'I know you wouldn't.' Doctor answered. 'I saw something changed in you after that moment. I wanted you to be sure you want this... And rushing things never comes out good.'
Yaz gave her girlfriend a kiss. 'You're right. I needed time to think about that. I've spent countless nights trying to figure it out. Trying to deny I was in love with a woman.' she looked her in her eyes. 'But during that speech I realised it doesn't matter. If a hindu man and muslim woman could be the first couple married in Pakistan, I could fall for anyone. Man, woman, human, alien... A combination of thereof...' she smiled. 'Love doesn't care about that at all. Love isn't binary.'
Doctor smiled too. 'You're a wise woman, Yasmin Khan. And I think humans call this approach pansexual.'
Yaz giggled. 'Thought you hate labels.'
'I do, but you might not. Maybe it would be easier for you if you had one.' Doctor smiled.
Yaz tightened her embrace making Doctor come closer.
'I don't think being pansexual counts in aliens, Doc.' she giggled. 'Or not yet. But I get your point... Yesterday also made me realise I need to tell my dad and my nan about us.' she stated.
'Wait, your nan? Umbreen?' Doctor asked.
'Yes. And you're going with me. We need to tell her the truth.' Brunette was serious. 'My whole family already knows about aliens and time travel, so it's not fair to leave her alone in the dark.'
Doctor nodded. She was right. It has to be done.
'How do you feel now?' she asked.
Yaz answered with a passionate kiss.
'I'm your pansexual, human girlfriend who likes too much having a cock sometimes.' she said once their lips separated. It actually felt good to say it out loud.
Doctor chuckled. 'That's my favourite combo. I mean, look at my wife... But I think that last part should stay between us.'
Yaz chuckled too. 'My cock is all yours. Unless your wife is around. Then I'll be happy to share.'
'Would you like me if I was a man?' Doctor asked with a smile.
'Totally. But I wouldn't be able to do this anymore.' Yaz answered in a heartbeat. She placed one of her hands between Doctor's legs, and rubbed her clit through her pants. 'I don't care what's in your pants, Doc. As long as it's yours.' she smiled and removed her hand.
Doctor gasped. Yaz's hand there reminded her of something. 'Lucky me... Did I begged you yesterday to...' she asked and Yaz smiled.
'You did. You were drunk, and I wasn't, so it did not feel right. Plus your granddaughter can read minds.' she answered. 'But, once we get back and tell my nan and my dad about us...' she kissed her neck. 'I'll be all yours...'
'Good morning, grandmother. How's your head?' Susan asked as soon as Doctor and Yaz came out their room.
'A bit of a headache, but frankly, I've had worse. Try regenerating and suddenly all other pain is nothing.' Doctor answered.
'Still... That should do it. Good morning, by the way.' David said serving her a glass of electrolytes.
'Thanks.' she took the glass and emptied it.
Yaz watched her girlfriend frowning when the taste of a mixture got through to her.
'Will you join us for breakfast?' Susan asked.
Yaz glanced at Doctor. 'We'd love to, but I have something to do, and I need her to be there for me.'
Susan didn't really need to read Yaz's mind to know what is she talking about. She smiled and went to hug Yaz.
'Of course. Since you have my number now, please give me a call sometimes. I'd love to know how did it go.' she said squeezing the young girl with unexpected force.
David gave Doctor his hand to shake.
'Bye Doc. It was nice to see you again.' he said.
Doctor hesitated. She disregarded his hand and went for a hug.
'I've misjudged you, my boy. You're the best she could get and I'm glad we're family now. I'm gonna miss you.' she told him quietly. She still didn't want the girls to know that she actually liked David now.
The man just smiled and picked up this small blonde in the air, squeezing her breath out of her.
'Thanks. That means the world to me.' he answered. He put her back on her feet and went to hug Yaz.
'Don't be afraid to call me, grandmother. I'd love to chat with you more often.' Susan now wrapped herself around her grandma.
Doctor smiled and gave her a forehead kiss.
'I love you, dear child. I promise I'll call.' she said hugging her granddaughter tightly.
Soon enough all four of them was standing in front of TARDIS.
'Maybe you want to take a look inside?' Doctor offered. 'I've redecorated since you last've been inside.'
Susan smiled gently. 'I'll pass.' she answered. 'I'm afraid if I come inside, I won't be able to stay where I belong.'
'Thanks for having us.' Yaz said. 'Hope we didn't spoil your anniversary.'
Doctor all of the sudden looked like she remembered something. 'Shoot. I totally forgot. We didn't get you anything.'
Susan chuckled. 'Don't worry, grandmother. You gave us the best gift you could. You came.'
David stood beside her and held his hand on her shoulder affectionately.
'Definitely. And what's the most important...' he kissed her forehead. 'Sue is happy, so I'm happy. Best anniversary ever.'
Yaz smiled and glanced at Doctor, who decided to do the same. They joined hands and opened the TARDIS door.
'Let us know how that thing went.' David shouted as they were entering the ship. The couple waited outside as the TARDIS engines started and the blue box disappeared with a familiar sound.
'Your granddaughter is absolutely amazing, Doc. I'm glad you made me come with you.' Yaz said, sitting on a couch, which surprisingly still was standing in the console room.
'I didn't make you do anything, love.' Doctor sat beside her. 'You made your own choice.'
Yaz smiled. 'That's not how I remember this went.' she took her hand.
'Ready to break the news?' Blonde asked and Yaz sighed.
'As ready as I can be.' she answered and squeezed her hand. 'Let's start with my dad. Less to explain.'
'Want me to come with you?' Doctor asked.
'I'd like that, Doc.'
They stood up and left the TARDIS, again, holding hands. The way up the stairs felt really long. Yaz's heart was beating incredibly fast. She was nervous like she's never been before. She knew her dad loved her, and would kill anyone who tried to hurt her, but somehow she was still scared. Doctor seemed to sense all that. Even though she didn't say anything, she held her hand in tight grip, tightening it everytime she felt, Yaz's hand starts shaking.
As they entered the apartment, their hands disconnected. Yaz all of the sudden felt the tension rises.
'Yaz! Doctor! What a surprise.' Hakim greeted them warmly. 'Come, sit down. Haven't seen you a while, princess.' he said pointing two chairs in the living area. 'Fancy a cuppa?'
Yaz quickly sat down, as she felt her legs starting to give up under her. Doctor sat beside her, still silent.
'Dad, can you sit down, please? We need to talk.' Yaz said, feeling her guts are twisting.
Her serious tone caught Hakim off guard. He quickly did what she told him, and took her hand.
'What's the matter? Oh, you're trembling... Is everything allright?' he asked, clearly concerned.
'Dad... I'm...' she started, and gave Doctor quick look. Blonde just nodded. Yaz looked her dad in the eye. 'I'm queer...'
Hakim didn't answer right away. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
'Dad, say something.' Yaz said, looking at him.
'I... know, hunny.' he answered and smiled awkwardly.
Yaz was stunned, and Doctor just smiled.
'I knew since you were in 2nd grade.' he said. 'You asked me then "Daddy, can a girl feel about another girl the same way as about the boy?" and you can only imagine my face back then.' he couldn't help but smile more. 'I didn't answer back then and told you to ask your mother, but I knew this day would come.' he squeezed her hand and put his other hand on her cheek.
'Okay, I have to admit, that could give away the news... But, there's another thing.' she glanced at Doctor.
'You two are seeing each other.' he guessed and Yaz nodded. He took a deep breath. 'Are you happy?' he asked.
'Yes. I am happy.' she answered, glancing at Doctor again. 'She makes me feel safe and loved.'
Doctor felt like she had to say something. 'I love your daughter, Hakim. I'd die for her in a heartbeat.'
'Good to hear that, Doctor.' he answered. 'Because she deserves that and more.'
Blonde smiled. 'She does. She makes me better person.'
Hakim smiled to his daughter. 'You're still my little princess, Yasmin. And you always will be. No man, woman or an alien will change that.'
Yaz felt like a huge weight was taken off her chest. That went better than she expected.
'I have to ask and please don't get me wrong.' Hakim said and then hesitated. 'How do I put this...'
Yaz knew exactly what he meant. 'I fall for people, not for their gender or identity. I don't care what's in people's pants. You can say I swing in any possible way.'
He sighed with relief, that he didn't have to ask himself.
'Sorry, I didn't want to be disrespectful in any way...'
'It's okay, dad. You're the best. You're actually taking this better than I expected.' Yaz smiled widely.
'I had quite few years to prepare for this, Yaz... You know when I knew for sure that you weren't straight?' he asked.
Yaz raised her eyebrow.
'When we watched Ocean's Eight together.' he chuckled.
Yaz's face became red all of the sudden. 'It was a great movie. And I didn't even know I liked women back then.'
'But I did.' Hakim said, quite amused. 'The way you looked at Cate Blanchett and Rihanna wasn't straight at all.'
Brunette smiled awkwardly. 'Okay, I'm have a confession to make. I watched that movie dozen of times and couldn't get enough... Didn't know why I liked it so much.'
Doctor giggled. 'Oh I can't blame you, my love. These women had this badass vibe about them... Like River.'
Mentioning River triggered something inside Hakim's mind.
'Hold on, Doc. I've met your wife, didn't I? That gorgeous redhead.' he said looking at the blonde now.
Doctor sighed. 'I know. I know... Yes, I'm married. But River and I... How do I put this... Time is not linear as you humans think. It's more of a big ball of wibbly wobbly... Timey wimey stuff...' she said but she saw she have lost him.
'When I first met her, she knew everything about me, and I didn't know who she was.' she smiled sadly. 'I've watched her die on our very first meeting. The very last incarnation of me she met, was ironically the one that haven't met her yet. Then I met her parents...'
Hakim shook his head. 'Sounds complex. So you saw her die before you married her?'
'Before I saw her being born, taken away, trained to assassinate me...' she smiled to this memory. 'I guess I also like strong, confident women.' she concluded.
'And you guys met, and she gave you her blessing?' Hakim asked again.
Doctor and Yaz both blushed.
'Yes.' Yaz answered playing with the ring she got from Mels. 'She did that...'
Hakim took a look at both of them. Talking about River made them visibly uncomfortable, so he decided to end the topic.
'Well... I'm gonna trust your judgement here, Yaz. Marriage is sacred, but... As long as no one is getting hurt, I think it's okay.'
Yaz smiled. 'Thanks dad. You're the best.' she stood up to hug him. He did the same. While hugging his daughter, he looked at Doctor. She was smiling. He could swear he saw a glimpse of tears in her eyes. His eyes became wet too.
'Are you crying, dad?' he heard.
'No.' he wiped his eyes. 'I just can't believe my little girl is all grown up now.'
Yaz's eyes also were wet. She couldn't imagine this going any better.
'So...' Hakim cleared his throat and released his daughter. 'Welcome to the family, Doctor.' he came up to the blonde and hugged her too.
'Thanks Hakim. I really appreciate your support.' she hugged him back. Their hug was much shorter.
'Oh, you weren't lying about having two hearts.' he said more to himself than the Doctor. He let her go and looked at both of them.
'Doc, I'm gonna tell you the same thing I would say to her boyfriend.' his face became straight. 'Keep her safe. I'll hold you accountable for everything that might happen to my little princess.'
'Got it.' Doctor smiled widely.
Hakim sighed heavily. 'At least I don't need to talk to you about using protection.' he smiled, but both women glanced at each other awkwardly and blushed a bit. 'What?'
'Actually...' Doctor started but Hakim stopped her.
'Stop. Alien tech, got it. I don't want to hear about that.' he watched Doctor's face closely, clearly trying to read what kind of tech she might be having on mind. 'Just... Use your brains, okay? Don't do anything stupid.'
Doctor nodded.
'We won't, dad. Don't worry about it.' Yaz smiled awkwardly.
'So... Do you want to stay for dinner? Your mother is coming home soon. I think Sonya is gonna bring her boyfriend. It would be nice to have the whole family at the table.' he offered.
'I need to talk to nan first.' Brunette stated.
Hakim hugged both of them once again. 'Dinner's at 6. Don't be late.'
