Chapter 5

Faelwen grabbed her bags double checking to make sure that she had everything that she needed for this long-awaited journey that Ganadalf had talked to her about when she was back in Bree so long ago. She tied her hair back from her face taking a soft breath. She closed her eyes knowing that her little brother wouldn't be all that pleased to know that she was leaving him behind for something so dangerous. Perhaps that was what she needed to do.

She went to her closet and slowly pulled out the black cloak that she normally wore. She took a breath and slowly slipped it on. She turned and grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder. She slowly made her way through the quiet halls trying her best to avoid any elves that could be wandering. She made her way to where the dwarves were. She slowly slipped into the quarters and saw that they were roasting sausages over a fire burning Elvish furniture. She swallowed the lump in her throat as she tried to push her anger back.

"Bombur!" She heard one of them call out.

Bombur looked up, and Bofur threw the sausage at him. Bombur caught it, but the weight of the sausage was just too much for the bench and it broke, causing Bombur to shriek as he fell to the floor with all of his food.

The dwarves laughed uproariously.

Faelwen cleared her throat causing the dwarves to look at her.

Balin's old eyes widened as he noticed the garb that the young woman was wearing. "Mahal… you're a Dunedain."

Dwalin looked at the young woman with a look of confusion on his face.

"Yes. I'm a Dunedain." She said softly. "Or in more common language, Ranger of the North."

"What brings you here lass?" Dwalin questioned rather gruffly.

"I am here to warn you and guide you away from Rivendell." She said softly, lowering her head slightly. "Gandalf will be called upon by the White Council."

"What has he done?" Kili questioned, rather concerned.

"Gandalf told me that he will meet us in the mountains in two days. But we must make haste. Gather your things… we have to sneak out now."

Fili let out a soft laugh. "Sounds like you've snuck out of here often."

Faelwen let out a soft giggle. "Perhaps too often."

"What is your name, girl?" Dwalin questioned looking at her with a scrutinizing gaze.

"Aramyre." She said as she looked at Dwalin.

"Daughter of Arathorn II," Balin said softly.

"Shhh. Not everyone needs to know that." She said shyly.

"Princess of Gondor and Arnor…"

"Exiled." She said softly gripping her pack tightly in her hands. "But needn't worry about who I am. I'm here to help us get out of here and into the wild. Gandalf will join us soon. But we must leave now. Be as silent as you can be. Elladan and Elrohir will be on guard tonight."

The dwarves slowly got to their feet doing as they were told.

Thorin looked atAramyre. "You're choosing a dangerous path."

Aramyre looked over at Thorin. "Yes, my choice is to help you and your company. You deserve your home in the Lonely Mountain."

"But you wish to remain in exile yourself."

Aramyre shrugged her shoulders lightly. "I do not want to be queen of Gondor or Arnor." She shook her head lightly. "Perhaps someone much more wise would do so." She said as she moved away from the dwarves taking a soft breath and waiting for them to leave with her.

AUJAUJ

Aramyre led the dwarves along a path leading away from Rivendell.

"Be on your guard; we're about to step over the edge of the Wild. Balin, you know these paths; lead on." Thorin called out to the older dwarf.

"Aye."

Bilbo turned around and looked back at Rivendell longingly.

"Master Baggins, I suggest you keep up," Thorin called out to Bilbo.

Bilbo took a breath and slowly turned and began to walk behind the dwarves and woman.

Aramyre pulled her dark hood up over her head as she slowly walked the path. She gripped her bag tightly as she walked.

"Aren't you leaving a husband or family behind?" Fili called out toAramyre.

Her gray eyes slowly slid over to the crowned prince who was next in line after Thorin. "Husband no. Family yes. But he's young. He doesn't know about me doing this. I am doing everything in my power to protect my little brother."

Kili smiled cheekily. "You have a little brother Lady Ranger."

"Yes, I do. I pray he'll never find life as a ranger as something he must do." She said, shaking her head softly.

"And you want to help us…"

"Yes. It is the right thing to do. You and your family deserve to have your kingdom back." She said as she continued down the narrow path being very careful of where she put her feet at.
