Later on that night, Barry decided that it was time to do something he should've done a while ago as he took the stage to perform a song.
"Okay, I'd like to dedicate this song to the love of my life, my girlfriend, Iris West." Barry said as the name of the song Runnin home to you, appeared on the screens before Barry took the mic.
"Can't say how the days will unfold,
Can't change what the future may hold
But, I want you in it
Every hour, every minute
… This world can race by far too fast
Hard to see while it's all flying past
But, it's clear now,
When you're standing here now
I am meant to be wherever you are next to me
… All I want to do
Is come running home to you
Come running home to you
And all my life I promise to
Keep running home to you
Keep running home
To you
… And I could see it
Right from the start
Right from the start
That you would be
Be my light in the dark
Light in the dark
Oh, you gave me no other choice
But to love you
… All I want to do
Is come running home to you
Come running home to you
And all my life I promise to
Keep running home to you
Keep running home
Home to you
… Can't say how the days will unfold
Can't change what the future may hold
But, I want you in it
Every hour, every minute." Barry sang as Iris smiled at every word her boyfriend sang as with every word he sang, he took another step closer to her, like he didn't need to read off the screen to know the words that came from his heart. Words that would always be true, since even before Barry was the Flash, Iris knew that he'd always come running home to her.
But nothing could've prepared her for what Barry did when he reached the table that she, Cisco, Caitlin and Gabby were sitting at, though the closer he got, the less aware Iris became of who else was at that table or at the bar, since it felt like the world was only populated by herself and Barry at that moment and as he approached the end of his song, Iris had to stop herself from gasping as she brought both of her hands to mouth as Barry got down on one knee and pulled out what had to be his mother's engagement ring.
"Iris Anne West, I have loved you since the day we met all those years ago and nothing will ever change that. I was originally going to do this when you came home from overseas, but I think we both know that did not go according to plans, but now I think that this is the perfect opportunity to ask you something I should've asked you a long time ago. Will you marry me?" Barry asked and Iris's throat was so clogged up with tears that she couldn't speak, so she just nodded vigorously until she found her voice.
"Yes. Yes I will marry you Barry Allen." Iris said with and Barry grinned as he slid the ring onto her finger before they kissed as the entire bar began to clap, but no one was clapping harder than Caitlin, since she'd been waiting for this day longer than anyone else here.
"Pay up." Gabby said smugly to Caitlin and Cisco.
"Wait, you guys bet on us?" Barry asked.
"Not exactly. We bet on how long it would take Iris to say yes. I said that she'd say yes before you even finished your song, you know the moment you got down on one knee." Caitlin said.
"I thought that Iris wouldn't say anything until she could respond coherently." Cisco said.
"Whereas I said that Iris would wait for Barry to finish his proposal and she'd nod until she could say yes." Gabby said as she took 20 bucks from both Cisco and Caitlin.
"Still, congratulations to you both." Caitlin said as she got up to hug her brother and future sister-in-law.
"Thank you." Iris said as she hugged Caitlin.
"So, I'm going to be your maid of honor right?" Gabby asked Iris as she got up to hug her.
"Only if I get half that money you won from betting on me." Iris said.
"I'll wear you down." Gabby said with a grin, none of them noticed her cross necklace giving off a small purple glow until Gabby hugged Iris, which caused the necklace to release some kind of energy blast into Iris.
"What the hell was that?" Iris asked, since while that blast didn't hurt, it definitely felt weird.
"I don't know." Gabby said, though Iris honestly felt better than she had since before the ambush.
"Wait, I can actually feel my legs again." Iris said, not wanting to dare to hope.
"What? Barry, get us to the Cave now." Caitlin said, using their nickname for Mount Flash and Barry nodded as he wheeled Iris outside with the others following and once they were clear, Barry began speeding them all to base, starting with Iris and Caitlin and then coming back to get Gabby and Cisco.
After running several tests on Iris, Caitlin couldn't believe what she was seeing, but she needed to be sure.
"Iris, I never thought I'd be saying this to you so soon, but I want you to try to stand up." Caitlin said, since she wanted to see it for herself.
"What, but Caitlin, I'm paralyzed." Iris said in shock.
"You were. But I'm going over the MRIS on your spine and it's showing that all of the damage has been inexplicably healed, but I need to see for myself." Caitlin said.
"Okay." Iris said though she was a bit nervous, since while she could feel her legs, the thought of actually walking again was shocking and a bit scary.
"Lieutenant West, on your feet this instant." Gabby ordered in her best drill sergeant voice, causing Iris to jump from the bed and get to her feet, her spine completely healed.
"I can stand." Iris said in shock, since while her legs were a little wobbly from lack of use, they definitely worked again, but she didn't understand how.
"And walk again. As in you'll be walking down that aisle. I'm gonna call Joe and everyone else to give them the good news." Caitlin said.
"How is this possible and why is Gabby's necklace glowing?" Barry asked, though he was complaining.
"I have no idea. My mom might have some answers though, since it used to belong to her." Gabby said, wondering how her necklace had healed Iris.
"Well, whatever happened, at least you're healed." Barry said.
"Well, almost. I can tell that my arm is still bionic, but I can with that. But while it might take some getting used too, I'm glad to finally get my legs and, to an extension, my life back." Iris said with a grin, right as there was a bright flash of flight and suddenly a man wearing a golden helmet appeared in the middle of the cave, causing Caitlin to go frosty and Gabby to reach for her gun.
"I mean you no harm. I am Doctor Fate, one of the mystic lords of order." Doctor Fate said.
"What is going on? You're a magic user?" Barry asked, since he had no issue believing in magic considering what had happened in the world since Superman had become active.
"Yes and while I can explain what is going on with Ms. Gomez's necklace, but there is no time. A great enemy threatens to throw this world out of balance. Flash, you are needed and when the crisis passes, I will explain everything I know." Doctor Fate said as he held up his hand and glowed gold, placing Barry in his Flash suit, before both of them vanished in a flash of gold light.
To be continued in a new story, the Justice League Chronicles Book 1; the Atlantis Wars.
