Barry was currently using his speed to rearrange furniture in Gabby's new office, since she'd finally opened up her own Private Investigator's office, which was located a few blocks away from the Central City Citizen.
"Thanks for doing this Barry. It would've taken me forever to get all this stuff arranged right." Gabby said.
"Hey, I think you're forgetting who did a lot of the heavy lifting." Iris said as she flexed her bionic arm.
"Iris, I love you, but you're just showing off now. Especially since you shouldn't be pushing yourself too hard right now anyways." Gabby said.
"Gabby, whatever voodoo your necklace did to me brought me back to full health, Caitlin's confirmed it. I'm in better health now than I've ever been before. Plus my arm is five times stronger than a normal human arm is. Besides, after spending months stuck in a chair, sue me if I want to show off a bit." Iris said.
"Fair enough, but still, I really wish that Barry's friend Doctor Fate would finally show up to give us some answers on how my necklace healed you." Gabby said.
"Well the Doctor's a bit busy at this moment, so he sent me in his place." a new voice said a British/Welsh accent, causing all three of them to turn to see a man with dirty blonde hair, wearing a white dress shirt, grey pants, a red tie and a ridiculous beige trench coat and smoking a cigarette enter the room.
"And you are?" Barry asked.
"The name's John Constantine mate. Your pal Doctor Fate asked me if I could explain that little charm of yours." Constantine said.
"And we're just supposed to believe that a drunk like you knows a member of the Justice League?" Iris asked, since that wouldn't blow Barry's cover in case this guy wasn't legitimate.
"Seriously, we just met this guy and I already want to shoot him." Gabby said, pulling out her gun as Constantine chuckled.
"You're not the first person to say that. Ignis-sa." Constantine said as suddenly Gabby's gun heated up and she was forced to drop it.
"What the hell?" Gabby asked.
"Kent said that you lot would be skeptical. But perhaps if you're still unsure, Flash here could call up his mate Green Arrow, since he's an old acquaintance of mine." Constantine said.
"You know I'm the Flash?" Barry asked.
"Of course. It's hard to keep secrets from a master of the dark arts such as I." Constantine said.
"And that gibberish you just used to force Gabby to drop her gun is pretty convincing." Iris said.
"Yeah, I still want to shoot you though." Gabby said, glaring at Constantine, who just chuckled.
"Take a number, love. There's a lot of people ahead of you on that list." Constantine said.
"Why am I not surprised? Especially considering the way you're looking at both Iris and Gabby." Barry said, since he did not like the way this guy was looking at the woman in the room. And once Iris noticed it, she actually adjusted her jacket a bit to better cover her chest.
"Sorry, force of habit. But I was passing through Central City anyways, so Kent asked me to deliver the message. Do you want answers or do you want me to leave?" Constantine asked.
"Fine. Just make it quick, since I do not like you." Gabby said, since she'd rather finally get answers rather than keep waiting for Doctor Fate, even if Fate was less of a jackass.
"Not the first woman to ever say that to me. Now, can I have a closer look at that necklace?" Constantine asked and Gabby nodded as she took the necklace off to let Constantine examine it.
"I can't believe it, even when Nabu told me you had it, I didn't believe it." Constantine said.
"What is it?" Gabby asked.
"Tell me something love, are you religious?" Constantine asked her.
"Used to be. But then I was deemed an abomination by the church just because I prefer the company of women instead of men." Gabby said.
"You never told me that." Iris said, since she knew that Gabby had been estranged from her family after she'd come out to them, she didn't know that part.
"I don't like to think about it. But what does my religion have to do with this?" Gabby asked.
"Everything. Tell me, what do you know of the Archangels?" Constantine asked, surprising her.
"That they were God's first creations. His first sons, Michael, Samael, who later became Lucifer, Raphael and Gabriel." Gabby said.
"Correct. But what your bible doesn't tell you is that there was another archangel before them. An older one. The very first of God's creations. Amenadiel, the first of God's creations, his favorite, most loyal and most powerful son. His most trusted lieutenant." Constantine said.
"What happened?" Gabby asked, since she assumed that if all the crap in the Bible was true and considering what Constantine was saying, it was, then there must be a reason there was no mention of Amenadiel in it.
"After Lucifer and his followers were cast out of heaven and into Hell and he launched his war against his father, Amenadiel was the one who led the heavenly host to humanity's defense alongside his fellow archangels. But you see, Michael, the second born archangel, was jealous of Amenadiel's power and standing with their father. He wanted to be the favorite son. So, after Lucifer was banished back to Hell, Michael conspired with his other two brothers to take down Amenadiel and pin it on Lucifer's forces. I'm not saying it was a smart plan, but they lured Amenadiel into a trap and convinced their younger siblings that Amenadiel was a traitor, attempting to make a deal with Lucifer. They overpowered him and nearly killed him." Constantine said.
"Why would they do that? I thought that Angels were supposed to be agents of good. Pure and just." Gabby asked and Constantine chuckled.
"That image is nothing more than propaganda they fed the churches to boost their own egos. In reality, most of them are nothing more than arrogant dicks who care only about themselves. Especially that asshole Gabriel." Constantine said.
"Anyways, continue." Barry said.
"Right, well, after Amenadiel fell, God didn't believe that Lucifer was responsible, since even during the war, the two brothers had some kind of respect for each other, Lucifer was the darkness to Amenaidiel's light. But God was furious with what had happened and while he could not save his son or bring him back, he would not allow the immense power he'd entrusted Amenadiel with to fall into the hands of either side, so instead, he gave it to his new favorites. Humanity." Constantine said.
"Wait what?" Gabby asked.
"He turned Amenadiel's power, his life essence, into this amulet, called the amulet of Amenadiel in honor of his fallen son, and entrusted to a human who'd proven themselves worthy of it." Constantine said.
"Why would he do that?" Barry asked, still trying to wrap his head around the idea that God was real, since while he'd never been very religious himself, he knew that Iris was to an extent and so was Gabby apparently.
"Haven't you heard that the lord works in mysterious ways. After he created the universe, he decided his job was done. He wouldn't get involved beyond that, since how else would his creations grow if he stepped in to solve their every little problem. But he created this amulet to give humanity a champion, someone to protect them from the angels or the demons should they decide to go rogue." Constantine explained.
"Wait, so that little necklace is packing the power of an archangel?" Iris asked.
"Well granted the cross is its camouflage. It conceals itself when in the possession of someone it deems as unworthy of its power. From what I know, the reason this amulet has been so hard to track down is because while it has stayed in your family from the moment God gave it to your ancestor, not all of them proved themselves worthy of the power, so it went dormant. I think the last time it was confirmed was back when slavery was still a thing." Constantine said.
"Yeah, I remember old family stories about how we'd been blessed by God and how, when people like us were shackled in slavery back in the 1800s, my ancestor, Gabriella Gomez, who I'm named after, was given the power to fight back against our oppressors. How she saved a lot of slaves. But I never believed it. I thought it was just a myth." Gabby said.
"No, it's true. And that amulet senses the same spirit in you that your ancestor possessed. The spirit of a just and noble warrior. But now, why don't we see what this amulet really looks like shall we?" Constantine said.
"Five elements of the earth, I respect and invoke thee. From the six directions, converge here. Lift all concealments, reveal thy truth." He spelled as the cross shimmered before its appearance shifted into a silver disk with a jewel in the center.
"There we go. That's more what I'd expect." Constantine said as he handed the amulet back to Gabby.
"It's gonna take some time to get used to this. Though I do wish there was someone who could teach me, since I don't trust you asshole." Gabby said.
"You're wise not to, but I'll reach out to some of my contacts, see if any of my trustworthy ones are interested, since this is very powerful magic that you need to learn to control. But I'll be on my way now." Constantine said and just like that he was gone.
"Well, that was interesting. That explanation left us with more questions than answers." Barry said.
"Good thing as a private investigator, getting answers is my specialty." Gabby said with a grin as she looked at her amulet, wondering what she was going to do with what she'd been told.
