A few hours later found Barry back at Argo Enterprises, now back in the capacity of his job as a CSI as a forensic scientist, though luckily, thanks to his mask and the fact that he'd been vibrating his vocal cords when he'd been here earlier as the Flash, Jesse didn't recognize him as he and Patty worked, since Julian was back in London for the holidays, though he should be returning soon.
While the CSIs worked, Barry noticed that while Joe and Eddie were talking to Jesse as the detectives in charge of this case, he could see the tells of Jesse and Eddie trying to avoid looking at each other for too long and how Eddie was trying not to wrap his arm around Jesse to comfort her. Clear signs that he was Jesse's mystery man, but if they weren't ready to reveal their relationship for whatever reason, he wasn't going to judge them and he could tell that Joe was in the same position. Barry just couldn't figure out why they were hiding their relationship, since if Eddie were dating Iris, then he might understand the desire to keep it hidden, but since it was Jesse, Barry didn't understand the problem. But it wasn't really his business.
"You find anything Allen?" Patty asked, bringing him back to the task at hand.
"You mean besides the obvious signs of a metahuman being behind this?" Barry asked.
"Not just a metahuman. Everything we've heard adds up to one thing. It was a speedster who broke in and if I didn't know better, I'd think the Flash was our lead suspect, but not only is he a recognized hero and member of the Justice League, but he at the time of the robbery, he was fighting a different metahuman criminal. What did they call him again?" Patty asked.
"Mirror Master." Barry said, since last night, before he'd gotten the call from Cisco, he'd been dealing with Sam Scudder, a meta who could access his own pocket dimension inside mirrors and other reflective surfaces and other assorted powers like that. He was still wrapping his head around the science behind those powers.
"Not to mention the survivors who did manage to get a look at the thief said that he looked like the reverse of the Flash. Instead of a red suit with yellow lightning, he had a yellow suit with red lightning." Barry said.
"Huh, so he's kind of like a Reverse Flash." Patty said and Barry had to stop himself from laughing as he thought of the look on Cisco's face when he found out that someone besides himself not only named a meta, but such a big one, since Reverse Flash was pretty much Flash's nemesis.
"I guess so. Cool name. But if we keep looking around I'm sure we'll find something, since due to all the waivers Ms. Chambers made us sign to keep us from revealing their secrets, we should be good to look around." Barry said, since he and Patti were the only cops on this floor who likely understood the science behind any of these devices.
"Yeah. How are things going with Iris? Her recovery seems pretty miraculous. Any chance that might become a regular practice? It could help a lot of people?" Patti asked, trying to make small talk as they walked through the facility.
"Not sure yet. It was a pretty experimental operation and Iris is the only one it worked on." Barry answered, keeping the truth about Iris's recovery secret.
"Well, here's hoping that those success numbers go up." Patty said and Barry nodded, though he knew that was unlikely as Eddie walked up to them.
"You CSIs find anything?" Eddie asked.
"Not much to go on. What about you? Did Ms. Chambers give you anything to go on?" Barry asked, even though he was pretty sure he knew what the answer was.
"No, she was being incredibly tight-lipped about whatever was stolen, though she did give the indication that we weren't the first ones she called." Eddie said.
"You mean the Flash?" Barry asked, well versed on how Eddie felt about the Flash and other vigilantes in general.
"Yeah. She trusts some guy in a mask over the police." Eddie said, clearly annoyed by that.
"He's a hero Eddie. Captain Singh keeps saying he wants a direct line to the Flash, kind of like what Gotham has for Batman." Patti said.
"What, like a Flash signal?" Barry asked with a chuckle, though he couldn't deny that giving CCPD an official direct line to him was a good idea. Especially since from what he heard, Superman gave James Olsen a direct line to him too.
"Something like that. But he's not wrong. The law is still working to catch up with the influx of metas." Patti said.
"Maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a vigilante who breaks the law." Eddie said, since his stance on the Flash wasn't as harsh as it used to be, he still wasn't sure how he felt about the people putting their faith in vigilantes.
"I say that he's just leveling the playing field against the criminals with powers." Patti said.
"But they should still have faith in the officers who've sworn to protect this city with their lives. I don't think that the Flash is trying to undermine the police, he's just trying to help them do their job." Barry said.
"I guess only time will tell." Eddie said.
